Best MBA Programs in USA for International Students 2027: Rankings, GMAT, STEM and Deadlines

Best MBA Programs in USA for International Students 2027: Rankings, GMAT, STEM and Deadlines
62 full-time US MBA programmes compared for international students: U.S. News 2026 rank, acceptance rate, GMAT, STEM designation and fall 2027 deadlines, with links to each full guide.

The best MBA programs in the USA for international students are the ones that admit a large share of foreign students, carry a STEM designation so you can stay and work after graduation, and give scholarships without a citizenship test. This list compares 62 full-time MBA programmes ranked in the U.S. News 2026 Best Business Schools list, released in April 2026, from Stanford at No. 1 down to the schools tied at No. 60. For each one you get the rank, the acceptance rate, the GMAT figure the school or a tracker publishes, its STEM status and the deadline open to you now.

Every school here links to a full guide on this site that covers the essays, English test rules, costs and scholarships in detail. Use the tables to shortlist, then read the guides for the five or six schools that fit your profile and budget. All figures were checked for the individual guides in October 2026.

How to read the MBA tables

  • U.S. News 2026 rank: the full-time MBA position in the 2026 Best Business Schools list. Ties are marked.
  • Acceptance rate: many top schools do not publish one. Where a school is silent, our guides use Poets&Quants figures drawn from U.S. News data, or estimates from Leland or Clear Admit, and the source is named in the cell. “Not published” means our writer found no reliable figure.
  • GMAT: the average or median the school gives, with the test edition. GMAT Focus scores run lower than classic GMAT scores, so a 675 Focus is not a weak score next to a 730 classic.
  • STEM status: whether the MBA, or a track inside it, is STEM-designated. This matters because STEM status lets F-1 graduates add a 24-month extension to the standard 12 months of OPT, up to 36 months of US work.
  • Deadline: the next round open for fall 2027 entry as given in each guide, plus the final international round where the school sets one. Many schools closed Round 1 in September or October 2026.

Top 10 MBA programs in the USA for international students

These are the schools most international applicants aim at first. Stanford returned to No. 1 in the 2026 list, with Wharton second and Booth third. Harvard and Kellogg tie at No. 4. Most of this group is fully STEM-designated, and admission is very selective even where the published rate looks moderate, because the applicant pool is so strong.

Two practical notes. Tuck is not STEM-designated as a whole; it offers a management science option instead. And Kellogg’s guide could not confirm STEM status from Kellogg’s own pages, so ask the school for the CIP code of your intended major before you count on 36 months of OPT. Booth stands out for funding: it offers loans to every student whatever their citizenship, with no US cosigner needed.

Best MBA programs ranked 11 to 25

This band holds several schools with strong international classes and clear STEM routes. Yale SOM made its whole MBA STEM-designated from the Class of 2026, and Yale’s Africa Impact Scholarship covers at least half of tuition for admitted students from African countries who plan to return to work in Africa. UNC Kenan-Flagler and Emory Goizueta designate every MBA programme as STEM. UT Dallas Jindal is the low-cost option of the group, but its standard MBA is not STEM-designated.

Several schools in this group, including Yale, Kelley, Kenan-Flagler, Goizueta, Jindal and Terry, do not print an acceptance rate on their own pages. That does not mean they are easy or hard; it means you should judge your chances on the class profile, especially GMAT range, work experience and the international share.

MBA programs ranked 26 to 45

Here the trade-off shifts toward cost and scholarships. Many of these schools give merit awards to a large share of each class, and several are cheaper public programmes. Acceptance rates vary widely: Fisher and Simon report about 13.3%, while Georgetown McDonough reports 64.4% and Utah Eccles 77.7%. STEM status is also uneven, so read that column carefully if US work after graduation is part of your plan.

Florida Warrington’s international date of 15 October 2026 has already passed, so the next one in our guide is 15 October 2027.

MBA programs ranked 46 to 60

The last group includes schools with strong regional networks and some generous scholarship policies. Fordham Gabelli is the most international of all: about 70% of its full-time students come from outside the US, the whole programme is STEM-designated and the GMAT or GRE is optional. Tulane Freeman and Chapman Argyros are fully STEM-designated too. Several others in this group do not state a STEM designation, which limits you to 12 months of OPT.

TCU Neeley is worth a look for funding alone. Its guide reports that more than half of its full-time students receive full-tuition scholarships and that international applicants are considered automatically. The trade-off is that the full-time MBA pages do not mention STEM designation.

Which MBA programs are STEM-designated?

If you want to work in the US after the MBA, STEM status is close to a deciding factor. Based on our guides, the programmes fall into four groups:

  • Whole MBA STEM-designated: Stanford, Booth, MIT Sloan, Columbia, NYU Stern, Berkeley Haas, Yale, Duke Fuqua, Carnegie Mellon Tepper, Vanderbilt Owen, UCLA Anderson, UNC Kenan-Flagler, Emory Goizueta, Georgia Tech Scheller, ASU W. P. Carey, Rice Jones, SMU Cox, Miami Herbert, Maryland Smith, Tennessee Haslam, American Kogod, UC Irvine Merage, Chapman, Tulane and Fordham Gabelli.
  • STEM through a major, track or option: Wharton, Harvard (STEM OPT track), Tuck, Darden, Michigan Ross, Cornell Johnson, McCombs, Foster, Kelley, Terry, USC Marshall, WashU Olin, Georgetown McDonough, Ohio State Fisher, Minnesota Carlson, Notre Dame Mendoza, Rochester Simon, Michigan State Broad, Wisconsin, Boston College Carroll and William & Mary Mason.
  • Not STEM for the standalone MBA: UT Dallas Jindal, Texas A&M Mays and Alabama Manderson.
  • Not stated or not confirmed: Kellogg, Iowa State, BYU (whole MBA), Florida, Utah, BU Questrom, Arkansas, Pitt Katz, Kansas, Kentucky, South Carolina, Oklahoma State and TCU. Ask each school directly before you rely on the STEM extension.

With a track-based designation, the STEM status depends on what you study, so plan your electives around the qualifying track from your first term.

How to choose an MBA as an international applicant

  1. Set your career goal first: if you want US work afterwards, filter for STEM status. If you plan to return home, the network in your target region and the total cost matter more.
  2. Check your test score against the class: compare your GMAT or GRE to the average and middle range in each guide. A score near the average keeps you competitive; well below it, choose schools where the published range reaches you.
  3. Work out the full cost: top programmes cost far more than tuition. Our guides give 2026-27 first-year budgets such as $140,668 at NYU Stern and $125,420 at Darden, against much lower public options like Georgia Terry.
  4. Look for loans without a US cosigner: Booth lends to every student, Fuqua and Cornell Johnson offer international loan routes, and several schools name Prodigy Finance or MPOWER.
  5. Apply in the round that suits your visa timeline: Round 2 is usually the last round where international applicants have enough time for the I-20 and visa interview. Later rounds can leave you short of time.

What MBA programs ask international applicants for

  • Test: GMAT, GMAT Focus or GRE. Some schools, including Rochester Simon, SMU Cox and Fordham Gabelli, are test-optional or offer waivers.
  • Work experience: the class profiles in our guides mostly show averages of about four to five years. Texas A&M Mays asks for three years or more.
  • English: TOEFL, IELTS or Duolingo, unless your degree was taught in English and the school accepts that.
  • Essays and interview: each school sets its own essays, and many interview by invitation. Some use video essays.
  • Transcripts and recommendations: academic records with evaluation if needed, and one or two professional references.
  • Application fee: MIT Sloan and Columbia charge $250, while some schools such as WashU Olin and SMU Cox charge no fee.

Common mistakes in MBA applications from abroad

  • Assuming every MBA allows 36 months of OPT: check the STEM column and the guide before you build your plan on US work.
  • Comparing GMAT Focus and classic scores directly: they are on different scales.
  • Waiting for Round 3: late rounds have fewer seats and less scholarship money, and they squeeze the visa timeline.
  • Ignoring the international cut-off: several schools close earlier for applicants who need a visa than for domestic applicants.
  • Budgeting for tuition only: living costs, insurance and fees often add tens of thousands of dollars a year.

FAQs on MBA programs in the USA for international students

Which MBA in the USA is best for international students?

By rank, Stanford, Wharton and Booth lead the 2026 U.S. News list. For international fit, look for a whole-programme STEM designation, a high international share and loans without a cosigner; Booth, MIT Sloan, Columbia and Fordham Gabelli all score well on those points.

Can international students get a full scholarship for an MBA in the USA?

Yes, but it is rare. TCU Neeley reports that more than half of its full-time students receive full-tuition scholarships, and several schools such as Boston College Carroll give awards up to full tuition, usually based on merit.

Is GMAT required for an MBA in the USA?

Most schools ask for the GMAT, GMAT Focus or GRE. Some, including Rochester Simon, SMU Cox and Fordham Gabelli, are test-optional, and others grant waivers for strong quantitative backgrounds.

When is the deadline for US MBA applications for fall 2027?

Most top programmes close Round 2 between 4 and 15 January 2027. Some schools have earlier rounds in November or December 2026, and a few set an international cut-off in late January to March 2027.

Sources and updates

Ranks come from the U.S. News 2026 Best Business Schools list (full-time MBA), released in April 2026, as recorded in each of our school guides. Acceptance rates come from the schools’ class profiles where published, or from Poets&Quants, Leland and Clear Admit as named in the table. GMAT figures, STEM status and deadlines come from each school’s admissions and class profile pages, checked for the individual guides in October 2026. We will update this list when schools post fall 2027 class profiles and when U.S. News releases its next edition.
