The UT Dallas Jindal MBA is probably the lowest-cost route into a U.S. News top-25 full-time MBA for international students. The Naveen Jindal School of Management is ranked No. 23 (2026 edition), its Full-Time MBA runs for 18 months instead of two years, and every admitted cohort student receives a merit scholarship of at least $1,000, which also moves international students onto Texas resident tuition. That brings the estimated 2026-27 programme cost to $36,118 in tuition and fees for the whole 18 months, instead of $65,607 at the nonresident rate.
Round 1 has passed, so your Deadline is Round 2 on 8 January 2027. The cohort is small (46 students, 37% international), the programme starts only in the fall, and the standard MBA is not STEM-designated, though a Double MS/MBA path adds STEM eligibility. Below are the UT Dallas MBA requirements, English scores, essays, scholarships, salary data and the points that trip up international applicants.

UT Dallas MBA ranking
U.S. News ranked the Jindal School No. 23 for full-time MBA programmes in its 2026 Best Business Schools edition, released in April 2026, tied with Emory Goizueta. The school’s programme page also cites a 2026 Financial Times ranking of No. 6 in the U.S. for value for money, which fits the low cost described below.
UT Dallas MBA class profile and acceptance rate
| Current cohort metric | Figure |
|---|---|
| Class size | 46 |
| International | 37% |
| Women | 44% |
| Average age | 29 |
| Average work experience | 5 years |

UT Dallas does not publish an acceptance rate or a GMAT average for its current Full-Time MBA cohort. Its admissions FAQ says the Class of 2023 averaged 689 on the GMAT, with 80% of admits between 650 and 700, and that the average GRE is in the 310 to 320 range. Those GMAT figures are on the older 800-point exam, so they do not compare directly with GMAT Focus scores. There is no minimum score.
With 46 students, this is the smallest class in this group of guides. You will know everyone, and the career centre works with a manageable number of students.
UT Dallas MBA requirements for international students
- A bachelor’s degree equivalent to a U.S. four-year degree. UT Dallas says three-year degree holders may be considered for master’s programmes through holistic review. An overall GPA of 3.0 or better is expected.
- Official transcripts from all universities, uploaded digitally. Documents not in English need certified English translations. UT Dallas does its own credential evaluation and does not accept outside evaluations such as WES.
- GMAT Focus or GRE. The Full-Time MBA page says the programme is not test-optional, with automatic waivers only for holders of a PhD, PharmD or DBA, a U.S. MD or JD, or an MCAT or LSAT score. Other waiver requests are reviewed case by case.
- One professional recommendation (it does not have to be from your employer).
- A statement of purpose and a second essay, each 300 to 500 words.
- A detailed resume. Two years of post-bachelor’s work experience are required, with exceptions considered for strong internships or academic records.
- English test scores, unless exempt.
- The application fee (see note below).
- An interview, by invitation.
English requirements
These are the UT Dallas graduate minimums for international applicants. The MBA pages ask for official TOEFL or IELTS but do not set their own minimums.
| Test | Minimum |
|---|---|
| TOEFL iBT | 80 for tests taken on or before 26 January 2026; 4 on the new scale after that |
| IELTS Academic | 6.5 |
| Duolingo English Test | 105 |
| PTE Academic | 67 |
Scores must be under two years old at admission. You are exempt if your bachelor’s or master’s was taught and examined in English, or if your country’s primary language is English as recognised by UT Dallas. For most applicants from Nigeria, Ghana and other English-medium systems, the first route applies, but check the university’s list and keep a medium-of-instruction letter ready.
Application fee
The Full-Time MBA admissions page lists a $75 fee, and the graduate admissions page for international students also says $75. The MBA admissions FAQ gives $150 for international applicants and $100 for domestic. Expect to pay whatever the application portal shows; budget for $150 to be safe.
UT Dallas MBA deadlines 2026-2027
UT Dallas lists the Full-Time MBA rounds by month and day. For the cohort starting in August 2027, they fall as follows.
| Round | Application due | Decision | Enrolment fee due |
|---|---|---|---|
| Round 1 (closed) | 15 October 2026 | 15 December 2026 | 15 January 2027 |
| Round 2 | 8 January 2027 | 20 February 2027 | 15 March 2027 |
| Round 3 | 1 March 2027 | 15 April 2027 | 15 May 2027 |
| Round 4 | 1 May 2027 | 15 June 2027 | 30 June 2027 |
Applications after 1 May are reviewed on a rolling basis. The school encourages scholarship seekers to apply in early rounds, and admits have 10 days to accept and pay a $750 seat fee, which funds programming and is not a tuition deposit.
Plan for the visa
UT Dallas does not publish a separate international deadline for the Full-Time MBA, but Round 4 decisions arrive on 15 June 2027, which leaves very little time for an I-20 and an F-1 visa appointment before the August start. Apply by Round 2 (8 January 2027) if you can.
How to apply, step by step
- Take the GMAT Focus or GRE: A score is also needed for some scholarship decisions, so plan for one even if you hope for a waiver.
- Take your English test unless your degree was taught in English.
- Upload official transcripts and certified translations to the online application.
- Write the two essays: A statement of purpose and the second essay, 300 to 500 words each.
- Request one professional recommendation: Through the portal or emailed as a PDF to mba@utdallas.edu.
- Submit with the fee by 8 January 2027.
- Interview if invited.
- After admission: Accept within 10 days, pay the $750 seat fee, send official scores, and start the I-20 process.
UT Dallas MBA essays and how to answer them
UT Dallas asks for two essays of 300 to 500 words each. The second essay asks about your strategies for personal and professional success in a changing business world, where you see yourself 5, 10 and 15 years after the programme, and how the programme supports those goals. The school does not publish a specific prompt for the statement of purpose, so treat it as a standard “why this MBA, why now” essay.
Statement of purpose
Cover four points in order: what you do now and one result you are proud of, the role you want after the MBA, the skills you lack for that role, and why an 18-month cohort MBA in the Dallas area is the right way to get them. Mention concrete Jindal features you have researched, such as the mandatory 12-week summer internship and the August LEAD Camp orientation.
For illustration: “I have spent five years managing distribution for a beverage company in Accra, and I want to move into supply chain analytics with a Texas-based retailer.”
Essay 2: 5, 10 and 15 years
Give each time point a role and a reason, and keep them connected. Five years out should be specific (function, company type, city). Ten and fifteen can be broader, but they should follow from the first. Then answer the “strategies for success” part directly: how you learn new skills, build networks and adapt when your industry changes.
For illustration: “Five years after graduating, I expect to lead a demand-planning team at a large retailer; by fifteen, I want to run operations for a regional distributor back home.”
The UT Dallas MBA interview
Interviews are by invitation only, and the school does not publish the format. Prepare a two-minute summary of your career, your reasons for the 18-month format, and two or three examples of leadership and teamwork with results you can quantify. Ask whether a virtual interview is available if you are applying from abroad.
What the admissions committee looks for
From UT Dallas’s own criteria for waivers and admission, the committee weighs academic readiness, quantitative and analytical strength, leadership and professional maturity, and supporting evidence of each. In a cohort of 46, they also want people who will take the internship and LEAD Camp seriously and contribute in class.
UT Dallas MBA tuition and cost 2026-2027
UT Dallas prices the Full-Time MBA for the whole 53-credit programme.
| Estimated 2026-27 programme cost | Resident rate | Nonresident rate |
|---|---|---|
| Tuition | $30,818 | $60,307 |
| Fees | $5,300 | $5,300 |
| Total for the programme | $36,118 | $65,607 |
UT Dallas says all full-time students qualify for resident pricing through scholarships: nonresident and international students who receive a scholarship of $1,000 or more pay Texas resident tuition. At the resident rate, tuition is $9,111 for each of Fall I, Spring I and Fall II, plus $3,485 for the summer term with the internship. The school’s FAQ gives a slightly different range of $36,000 to $68,000, so confirm the figure in your offer letter.
Costs not covered
- Housing, food, transport and health insurance for 18 months. The MBA tuition page does not give a living-cost budget, so check the UT Dallas cost of attendance before you prepare proof of funds.
- The $750 seat fee after admission.
- Test, application, SEVIS and visa fees, and flights.
- Funds for dependants on the I-20.
- In the first year, cohort students generally may not hold a traditional job, so do not count on income.
UT Dallas MBA scholarships for international students
UT Dallas says international students are eligible for all merit-based scholarships and teaching assistant positions.
- Every admitted Full-Time MBA student receives a merit scholarship of at least $1,000. You are reviewed automatically, with no separate form.
- Awards range from $1,000 to full tuition plus a stipend.
- Projected tiers for the 2026 cohort: 41% received $10,000 to $20,000, 52% received $21,000 to $35,000, and 7% received more than $35,000 (full tuition and stipend).
- Any scholarship of $1,000 or more gives international students resident tuition.
- Teaching assistant positions are open to international students, though the page gives no stipend details.
There is one inconsistency to note. The tuition page says a test waiver does not affect scholarship eligibility, but the admissions page says waiver recipients may be ineligible and that scholarship applicants must submit a score. I would submit a GMAT or GRE score to remove any doubt.
For loans, UT Dallas names Prodigy Finance and MPOWER Financing as third-party lenders its students use, and says short-term loans are available for international students. Check each lender’s site for terms. Our guide to American scholarships for international students lists other options.
STEM designation and OPT
The standalone UT Dallas Full-Time MBA is not STEM-designated, so graduates get the standard 12 months of OPT. To get STEM eligibility, you can take the Double MS/MBA track, which adds one semester and pairs the MBA with a STEM-designated MS. That makes you eligible to apply for the 24-month STEM extension. If staying in the U.S. after graduation is your plan, look at this track before you apply.
UT Dallas MBA salary and employment
- 90% of Full-Time MBA graduates are placed within three months of graduation.
- Average starting salary plus bonus: $140,175, for the 2024 and 2025 cohorts combined.
- A 12-week summer internship is mandatory.
UT Dallas does not publish a median base salary, top industries or top employers on its Full-Time MBA page, and it does not split placement by citizenship. Ask the career management centre for the international figures before you accept.
Common mistakes international applicants make
- Relying on the “automatic waiver” line in the general FAQ. The Full-Time MBA page says the programme is not test-optional.
- Applying in Round 4 and leaving no time for the visa.
- Ignoring the STEM question. The standard MBA gives 12 months of OPT only.
- Budgeting for the $65,607 nonresident figure and missing that a $1,000 scholarship brings resident pricing.
- Planning to work part-time off campus in year one.
- Sending a WES evaluation. UT Dallas does not accept outside credential evaluations.
Who should apply to UT Dallas Jindal, and who shouldn’t
Apply if cost is your biggest constraint, you have around five years of experience, you want to work in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, and you like a small cohort with a fast 18-month timeline. The Double MS/MBA is worth a look if STEM OPT matters to you.
Think twice if you want a large alumni network outside Texas, a two-year programme with a longer recruiting cycle, or three years of OPT without extending your studies.
