BYU Marriott MBA ranking

U.S. News ranked BYU Marriott No. 39 among full-time MBA programmes in its 2026 Best Business Schools list, released on 7 April 2026, tied with Florida Warrington and one place behind Iowa State. Poets&Quants’ own 2026 ranking puts BYU at No. 37.

BYU Marriott MBA acceptance rate and class profile

BYU does not publish an acceptance rate. Poets&Quants, using data reported to U.S. News, gives these figures:

IntakeApplicationsAcceptance rateYieldEnrolled
Fall 202525343.9%85.6%95
Fall 202417858.4%81.7%85
Fall 202321756.2%81.1%99

Yield above 85% is unusual: almost everyone BYU admits enrols. The 11% international share is also low next to peers such as ASU (33%) and UW Foster (56%), so expect a mostly American class.

BYU’s class profile page is headed Class of 2025. The class size of 95 matches the fall 2025 enrolment Poets&Quants reports, so the figures describe the students who started in 2025. BYU does not publish a median GMAT, GRE averages or the number of countries represented.

BYU Marriott MBA requirements for international students

  • A four-year, 120-credit-hour bachelor’s degree from an accredited university. Three-year degrees do not meet this rule.
  • Transcripts from all undergraduate and graduate institutions, plus a credential evaluation from IERF or SpanTran if you studied outside the U.S.
  • A GPA usually between 3.0 and 4.0 among successful applicants; rigour and quantitative coursework also count.
  • At least two years of full-time professional work after your bachelor’s, counted to the programme start date.
  • A GMAT, GRE or Executive Assessment score, required with few exceptions. You can request a waiver inside the application.
  • A detailed resume.
  • Two professional letters of recommendation. Professors and religious leaders are not accepted as recommenders.
  • A one- to two-page statement of intent.
  • A one-time video response with three questions.
  • An English test if you are not a native speaker, unless you are exempt.
  • A signed Honor Code commitment and an ecclesiastical endorsement.
  • The application fee (amount not stated on BYU’s checklist).

Honor Code and ecclesiastical endorsement

This is what makes BYU different from every other school in this group. All students sign a commitment to live by the BYU Honor Code, and all need an ecclesiastical endorsement through endorse.byu.edu. You do not need to be a Latter-day Saint to be admitted. Read the Honor Code in full before you apply, since you will live under it for two years, and ask admissions how applicants who are not church members get their endorsement.

Credential evaluation

If your degree is from outside the U.S., you must order and pay for a detailed course-by-course evaluation with GPA from IERF or SpanTran, the only providers BYU Graduate Studies recognises. Send your original documents straight to the provider, not to BYU. BYU will not review an application without this evaluation, and evaluations can take several weeks, so order yours now if you are aiming for Round 2.

English requirements

TestBYU MBA minimum
TOEFL iBT (from 21 January 2026)4.5 overall, at least 4.0 in each section
TOEFL iBT (to 20 January 2026)100 overall, with 22 Speaking and 21 in Listening, Reading and Writing
IELTS Academic7.0 overall, at least 6.0 in each module (online tests not accepted)
Duolingo English Test130 overall, at least 125 in each subscore
Cambridge C1 Advanced180 (Grade C)

TOEFL ITP and the TOEFL Home Edition are not accepted, and scores must be under two years old at enrolment. Citizens of listed countries are exempt, as are applicants who earned a residential bachelor’s degree or higher in one of those countries within 24 months of the programme start. The list includes the U.S., Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Ireland, the UK, South Africa, Singapore and several Caribbean and African nations; check BYU’s international candidates page to see whether your country is named.

Test waiver

Request it in the application under Add a Test Score, choosing GMAT Waiver Request (MBA). BYU may approve it, approve it with a condition such as a course before enrolment, or require a score. Decisions take one to two weeks.

BYU Marriott MBA essays: the statement of intent

BYU asks for one statement of one to two pages that answers six items. There is no separate word limit, so two single-spaced pages is the ceiling.

ItemWhat it asks
1Your preparation and background for the programme, and the emphasis you want
2Short- and long-term academic and professional goals, and why you chose this career
3Why BYU Marriott, and what you will contribute
4A time a goal, aspiration or leadership effort fell short: how you recovered, what resources you used and how you are different now
5 (optional)Special circumstances such as academic, test or job-gap issues
6 (reapplicants)How your candidacy has improved since a previous denial

Background, goals and why BYU

Items 1 to 3 should read as one story. Name the emphasis you want, connect it to your experience, then give a clear first job. BYU’s Class of 2025 went into operations, marketing, finance and general management roles at companies such as Dell, Walmart, Amazon and Procter & Gamble, so goals in those areas fit what the career office does well.

For illustration: “I spent four years running inventory for a pharmaceutical distributor in Nairobi, and I want BYU’s MBA to move into operations leadership at a U.S. consumer goods company.”

The setback question

This is where most applicants are too vague. Choose a real failure with consequences, show what you did next, name the people or resources you turned to, and describe a specific change in how you work today. Avoid a disguised strength such as working too hard.

For illustration: “In 2023 I led a regional pricing change that lost us two of our five largest clients in a month.”

Optional item

Use it for a low test score, a grading system the committee may not know, or a gap in work. Two or three sentences are enough.

The video response and interview

The video has three questions shown one at a time. You get 30 seconds to prepare and 2 minutes to answer each, with two recording attempts per question, and the whole task takes about 10 minutes. You can take it only once. BYU says it assesses leadership approach, decision-making and executive communication, so practise answering leadership questions aloud in two minutes before you start.

Interviews are by invitation for competitive applicants. BYU’s checklist does not describe the format.

What the admissions committee looks for

  • Experience managing budgets, leading teams or projects, or delivering results, with numbers.
  • Academic rigour and quantitative coursework, not only GPA.
  • Honest reflection on a setback.
  • Recommenders who can speak to integrity, judgement and handling pressure.
  • Willingness to live by the Honor Code.

BYU Marriott MBA tuition and cost

Two-year tuitionAmount
Students who are not Latter-day Saints$63,968
Latter-day Saint students$31,984

These are totals for the full programme, about $32,000 a year for non-members, which is low for a ranked U.S. MBA. BYU’s MBA costs page does not list fees or living costs and points to the university’s cost of attendance page. BYU also says students cannot work during the first academic year, have a paid summer internship and may work part-time in the second year, so plan your funding around no income in year one.

Costs not covered

  • Housing, food and transport in Provo.
  • Health insurance and university fees.
  • The IERF or SpanTran evaluation.
  • Test and English exam fees.
  • SEVIS fee, visa fee and flights.
  • Support for a spouse or children if they come with you.

BYU Marriott MBA scholarships for international students

Round 2 is BYU’s deadline for scholarship priority consideration. The MBA pages I checked do not name scholarships, give amounts or say whether international students qualify. BYU has a separate financial aid and scholarships page for the MBA; ask admissions which awards international students received last cycle. BYU news has reported Eccles Scholar awards of $10,000 to groups of MBA students in past years, but I could not confirm that the award runs in 2026-27.

BYU’s pages do not mention Prodigy Finance, MPOWER or loans without a U.S. co-signer. For other funding, see our list of American scholarships for international students.

STEM designation and OPT

BYU’s MBA has a STEM specialisation (announced as a STEM Management specialisation), but the admissions pages I checked do not say that the MBA as a whole is STEM-designated. If you need the 24-month STEM OPT extension, ask admissions which specialisation qualifies, what courses it requires and what CIP code appears on the I-20.

BYU Marriott MBA salary and employment

BYU’s placement profile for the Class of 2025 says 85% of MBA students seeking work were placed within three months of graduation. It gives median salaries by function and industry, not an overall median.

FunctionShare placedMedian base
Finance and accounting25%$117,500
Operations and production23%$120,000
Marketing and sales22%$130,000
General management13%$124,000
Human resources6%$94,500
Consulting5%Not listed

By industry, consumer products took 17%, financial services 16%, technology 16% (median $134,500) and manufacturing 13%. More than half of graduates (52%) took jobs in the western U.S., and none were placed outside the U.S. Top employers over the past five years include Dell, Walmart, Amazon, PwC, Microsoft, Verizon, Honeywell, Delta Air Lines, Procter & Gamble, Hershey, Adobe and Swire Coca-Cola. BYU does not report results for international students separately.

Common mistakes international applicants make

  • Applying with a three-year degree.
  • Sending transcripts to BYU instead of to IERF or SpanTran.
  • Asking a professor or pastor for a recommendation.
  • Starting the video before you are ready; it cannot be retaken.
  • Treating the setback item as a strength in disguise.
  • Not reading the Honor Code before committing to two years under it.
  • Missing Round 3, the last date for an I-20.

Who should apply to BYU Marriott, and who shouldn’t

Apply if you are comfortable with the Honor Code, want a ranked MBA at about $32,000 a year in tuition, and aim for operations, marketing, finance or general management roles with large U.S. companies. Bilingual applicants will find themselves in good company.

Think twice if the Honor Code conflicts with how you live, if you want a large international peer group, or if you need STEM OPT and BYU cannot confirm your path to it.
