The Georgia Tech Scheller MBA, the full-time MBA at the Georgia Institute of Technology’s Scheller College of Business in Atlanta, is ranked No. 27 by U.S. News (2026 edition) and is STEM-designated, so international graduates can apply for up to three years of OPT. It is also small and selective: the Class of 2028 has 58 students, and Poets&Quants reports that Scheller admitted 17.8% of its 894 applicants in the 2025 cycle.
Round 1 closed on 5 October 2026, so your Deadline is Round 2 on 8 January 2027, which is the latest round Scheller recommends for international applicants. Nonresident tuition for fall 2026 is $22,478 a semester, far below private schools in this ranking band. This guide covers the Georgia Tech Scheller MBA requirements, English scores, the three essays, the interview, costs, scholarships and job outcomes.

Georgia Tech Scheller MBA ranking
U.S. News ranked Scheller No. 27 for full-time MBA programmes in its 2026 Best Business Schools list, released on 7 April 2026, tied with WashU Olin. Poets&Quants’ own 2026 composite ranking places Scheller higher, at No. 20. The gap comes from different methods: Poets&Quants blends several rankings, while U.S. News relies heavily on peer surveys and placement data.
Georgia Tech Scheller MBA acceptance rate and class profile
Scheller does not print an acceptance rate on its class profile page. Poets&Quants, drawing on data schools report to U.S. News, gives 894 applications, a 17.8% acceptance rate and a yield of 45.28% for the fall 2025 intake. That acceptance rate is one of the lowest outside the top 20, mainly because the class is so small.
| Class of 2028 (entered fall 2026) | Figure |
|---|---|
| Class size | 58 |
| Average GMAT | 640 |
| Average GRE | 158 Verbal, 156 Quant |
| Average undergraduate GPA | 3.33 |
| Average age | 30 |
| Average work experience | 5.91 years |
| Women | 29% |
| U.S. veterans | 13% |
| International | 31% |
Scheller publishes averages only, not medians. A Poets&Quants feature in February 2026 said the previous class (Class of 2027) had 72 students and was 43% international, and that admissions interest was strongest from India and West Africa, especially Nigeria, with Ghana growing.
Georgia Tech Scheller MBA requirements for international students
- A four-year bachelor’s degree, or a degree Georgia Tech judges equivalent. Georgia Tech says it cannot make exceptions, and professional qualifications or work experience do not count toward this.
- Transcripts from all undergraduate and graduate study, with official English translations. Scans are fine for review; official copies are needed if you are admitted. Georgia Tech’s Graduate Studies office evaluates them and does not accept private evaluations such as WES.
- Two professional recommendation letters, one ideally from a current or former manager. Scheller accepts the Common LOR.
- A current resume. Scheller recommends two to three years of full-time work; the average student has about five.
- Three required essays, plus an optional essay.
- GMAT, GMAT Focus or GRE from the last five years, or the test-optional path.
- TOEFL or IELTS.
- The $105 international application fee.
English requirements
| Test | Minimum |
|---|---|
| TOEFL iBT | 95 on the 0 to 120 scale, or 5 on the new 1 to 6 scale |
| IELTS | 7.0 |
TOEFL scores must be no more than two years old. Scheller’s international page says exceptions are listed by Georgia Tech Graduate Studies, so check that list before you book a test. Scheller does not list Duolingo or PTE.
GMAT, GRE and the test-optional path
Scheller reviews your highest overall score and offers a test-optional path for applicants who have no score or prefer not to share one. GMAT code: HWK-54-37. GRE code: 5248. The class average of 640 tells you where most admitted students sit. If your quantitative background is thin, a score at or above that average helps, and Scheller reviews every application for merit funding.

Georgia Tech Scheller MBA essays 2026-2027
| Essay | Prompt (summary) | Limit |
|---|---|---|
| Career goals | Your short-term goals after the MBA (role, function, target companies), alternative paths, and how a Scheller MBA helps | 2,000 characters including spaces |
| Community building | A time you built or strengthened a community and its impact, and how you will strengthen the Scheller community | 2,000 characters including spaces |
| Ten facts | Ten facts about yourself for your future classmates | 2,000 characters including spaces |
| Optional | Anything else, including unique aspects or perceived weaknesses | 500 words |
| Reapplicant | Improvements since your last application | 250 words |
Note the limit: 2,000 characters is roughly 300 to 350 words. Draft in a tool that counts characters with spaces.
Career goals essay
Name a role, a function and two or three target companies. Scheller also asks for alternative paths, so give a realistic plan B in a sentence or two. Then connect both to something specific at Georgia Tech: the technology focus, Atlanta employers or a concentration.
For illustration: “After the MBA I plan to join a product management team at a payments company such as Visa or Fiserv; if that path closes, I would move into technology consulting, where my three years building bank integrations in Accra apply directly.”
Community building essay
Pick one community you actually changed: a professional association chapter, an alumni group, a church youth programme, a team at work. Give the before and after in numbers if you can, then say what you will start or join at Scheller. With a class of 58, the committee wants people who will run things.
For illustration: “When I joined our firm’s Port Harcourt office, the twelve new analysts had no mentoring at all; within a year, our peer study circle had helped nine of them pass their first ICAN papers.”
Ten facts essay
Write a numbered list of ten short, specific facts. Mix the professional with the personal, and avoid repeating your resume. Facts with a number, a place or a small story read better than adjectives.
For illustration: “1. I have cooked jollof rice for 200 people at my sister’s wedding, and I would do it again.”
The Scheller interview
Interviews are by invitation. An admissions representative contacts you to schedule, and you may meet an admissions and career services staff member and a current MBA student. Interviews can be virtual or in person. They cover what you would add to the classroom, why you want Scheller and your career goals, so bring the same plan you wrote in the essay, in more depth.
What the admissions committee looks for
- A focused short-term goal with named target companies and a sensible backup.
- Evidence that you build communities, since one of three essays asks for it.
- Work experience of two years or more, with progression.
- Readiness for a technology-oriented curriculum, shown by test scores or quantitative coursework.
- Strong English, with a TOEFL or IELTS score above the minimum.
Georgia Tech Scheller MBA tuition and cost 2026-2027
| Fall 2026, per semester (4+ credit hours) | Tuition | Mandatory fees | Total |
|---|---|---|---|
| Georgia residents | $15,274 | $758 | $16,032 |
| Nonresidents | $22,478 | $758 | $23,236 |
Two semesters at the nonresident rate come to $44,956 in tuition, which matches the 2026 figure Poets&Quants lists for Scheller. The Bursar’s fee sheet also shows a third, higher rate column of $23,130 a semester, which appears to be an out-of-country rate; confirm with the Bursar which rate applies to you as an international student. Scheller’s tuition page with a full cost of attendance was not available when I checked.
Costs not covered
- Housing, food and transport in Atlanta.
- Health insurance, which Georgia Tech generally requires of international students.
- Summer internship relocation costs.
- The SEVIS fee, visa fee and flights.
- Extra proof of funds for dependants.
Georgia Tech Scheller MBA scholarships for international students
Scheller reviews every application for merit-based funding, and there is no separate scholarship form. It does not publish award names, amounts or how many students receive them on its admissions page, and it does not say whether some awards are limited to U.S. citizens. Most funding goes to Round 1 and Round 2 applicants, which is another reason to apply by 8 January 2027.
Scheller’s international page does not mention Prodigy Finance, MPOWER or loans without a U.S. co-signer. Ask the admissions office directly what private loan options past international students have used. For outside funding, see our list of American scholarships for international students.
STEM designation and OPT
Georgia Tech recognises the Scheller MBA as a STEM degree for students graduating after 31 May 2022. That makes graduates eligible to apply for the two-year STEM OPT extension on top of the standard 12 months of OPT. Unlike some schools, Scheller does not require a special track for this.
Georgia Tech Scheller MBA salary and employment
The latest outcomes I could verify are from Poets&Quants’ November 2025 report on Scheller’s career services:
| Measure | Class of 2023 | Class of 2024 |
|---|---|---|
| Full-time roles within 3 months | 96% | 88.4% |
| Average starting salary | $154,679 | $146,260 |
The median signing bonus was $30,000. Consulting, technology and financial services take most graduates, with healthcare, energy and consumer products growing. Recruiters named include Deloitte, PwC, Amazon, Accenture and Delta Air Lines. Scheller does not publish a median base salary or split outcomes by citizenship in the sources I checked, and I could not retrieve a Class of 2025 report.
Common mistakes international applicants make
- Writing 500 words for a 2,000-character essay. The portal counts characters, including spaces.
- Applying with a three-year degree without checking Georgia Tech’s equivalence rules; the school says it cannot make exceptions.
- Sending a WES evaluation instead of official transcripts. Georgia Tech does its own evaluation.
- Waiting for Round 3, when most scholarship money is gone.
- Using the same career story in the community essay.
- Leaving out the alternative career path the goals essay asks for.
Who should apply to Georgia Tech Scheller, and who shouldn’t
Apply if you want a STEM MBA at public-university tuition, a small class where you will know everyone, and a career in technology, consulting or operations in Atlanta or elsewhere in the U.S. Scheller suits people with about five years of experience and a technical or analytical background.
Think twice if you want a large alumni network abroad, a wide choice of electives in a big class, or if your degree may not count as a four-year equivalent.
