UNN Cut-Off Mark for Human Kinetics and Health Education 2027/2028: Requirements and Sports Test

UNN needs 160 in the UTME to screen for Human Kinetics and Health Education in 2027/2028 and has published no departmental cut-off. See both degrees, O’level rules, the HKS sports skills test, Direct Entry and the score to aim for.

The UNN cut off mark for Human Kinetics and Health Education for 2026/2027 is 160 in the UTME, the score the University of Nigeria, Nsukka asked for in its screening notice of 13 July 2026 for candidates who chose UNN first. UNN has not published a departmental merit or catchment cut-off for Human Kinetics and Health Education for 2026/2027 or 2025/2026, so any “official departmental” figure you see on a blog did not come from the university.

2027/2028 update: UNN cut-off marks usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the figures on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They come from the latest official notice (2026/2027). If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.

You will also see 200 quoted. That is the minimum UNN declared at the JAMB 2026 policy meeting on 11 May 2026, as reported by Vanguard. In practice, UNN accepted screening forms from 160, its declared benchmark was 200, and the score that actually wins a place depends on how many people apply for your course and state. This guide covers the department’s two degrees (Human Kinetics and Sports Studies, and Health Education), the O’level rules UNN sets for each, the practical sports skills test for Human Kinetics, Direct Entry routes, how screening ran, an aggregate example and the score I would aim for.

UNN Human Kinetics and Health Education cut-off history

These are the only figures that trace back to UNN or JAMB. None of them is specific to Human Kinetics and Health Education.

One education blog groups every UNN Education course together at about 160 to 200 for “2025/2026”. It calls its figures estimates based on trends and does not say whether they are UTME scores or aggregates, so read it as an unofficial estimate and nothing more.

About the department and its two degrees

The department’s own history says UNN advertised a B.Sc. in Physical Education in June 1961 and admitted 15 pioneer students that September, which it describes as the first such degree in Africa south of the Sahara and west of the Limpopo. Health education courses were added in 1972, when it became Health and Physical Education, and in the 1991/1992 session it split into two degree options. It now runs:

DegreeFocusTypical first jobs
B.Sc. Human Kinetics and Sports Studies (HKS)Human movement and sports skills, sports science (biomechanics, exercise prescription, sports psychology), sports management and teachingPE and sports teacher, coach, sports council officer, fitness and recreation manager
B.Sc. Health Education (HED)School, community and public health, nutrition, environmental and reproductive health, health promotion, epidemiology, health counsellingHealth educator in hospitals and clinics, school health teacher, NGO health programme officer, industrial safety

You apply for one or the other. The admission rules are not identical, and only HKS has a practical test.

UTME subject combination

The department’s website lists O’level and Direct Entry rules but no UTME subjects, and UNN does not appear on the JAMB brochure reprint for Human Kinetics and Health Education that I checked. JAMB’s usual combination for this course is Use of English, Biology and any two other relevant subjects; Chemistry and Physics, or Chemistry and Mathematics, are the common picks. JAMB’s IBASS brochure would not open from here, so confirm the combination on your JAMB profile before you register.

Biology is the paper that matters most for both degrees, so read through the JAMB Biology syllabus early. Chemistry is a sensible second science; our JAMB Chemistry syllabus lists the topics.

O’level requirements set by the department

Degree (UTME route)What UNN’s department page asks for
Human Kinetics and Sports StudiesCredits in five subjects at not more than two sittings (WASC, GCE, SSCE, NECO or NABTEB), including English Language and one of Biology, Health Science, Physical Education, Agricultural Science, Chemistry or Physics; or TC II merit in five subjects including the same. Plus a pass in the departmental practical sports skills test.
Health EducationA credit in Biology, Health Science or Physical Education (or equivalent) at not more than two sittings, on top of UNN’s normal entry requirements

Both degrees also need UNN’s normal entry requirements, and UNN’s Faculty of Education states the university minimum as five credits including English Language and Mathematics. So a credit in Mathematics is part of the package even though the department page does not repeat it.

The practical sports skills test for Human Kinetics

HKS applicants must pass a departmental screening test on practical sports skills. The department page does not describe the format, the date or the sports involved, and UNN’s 2026/2027 screening notice did not mention it. If you are applying for HKS, contact the department about when it holds the test, and keep yourself fit and practised in at least one sport. Health Education has no such test.

Direct Entry routes

Both degrees take three-year Direct Entry students. The department lists:

  • HKS: NCE at distinction, credit or merit including Health and Physical Education, Integrated Science or Food and Nutrition; or a merit-level National Institute for Sports certificate or equivalent; or a two-year university diploma at distinction, credit or merit with five O’level credits including English and one of the listed sciences.
  • HED: two or more A’level papers including Biology or Zoology; or an NCE in Health and Physical Education, Biology, Integrated Science or Food and Nutrition; or a two-year diploma in Health and Physical Education; or a Technical Teacher’s Certificate in Health Education; or a three-year health-related diploma (such as health technology, nursing, public health nursing or community health) with four O’level credits; or RN, RM, RNT, CHO or public health nursing qualifications.

That last list is wide. Nurses, midwives and community health officers can use it to move into a health education degree in three years.

UNN screening for 2027/2028: what Human Kinetics and Health Education candidates had to do

UNN did not run a written post-UTME test for 2026/2027. The Registrar’s notice of 13 July 2026 described an online screening registration only, with no test date and no exam format. If a website is selling you “UNN post-UTME past questions for 2026/2027” as preparation for Human Kinetics and Health Education, know that the official notice did not mention any paper.

The portal route was unn.edu.ng, then UNN Portal at the top right (unnportal.unn.edu.ng), then Prospective Students and the 2026/2027 screening form. You entered your JAMB registration number, generated and paid the invoice, came back to fill personal and O’level details (including centre and exam numbers), uploaded your documents, reviewed, submitted and printed the acknowledgement slip. The notice warned that date of birth cannot be changed after submission.

The window is closed. If you did not register by 5 August 2026, UNN cannot consider you for 2026/2027, whatever your score.

How UNN ranks Human Kinetics and Health Education candidates (aggregate example)

UNN has not published its aggregate formula. Neither the 2026/2027 screening notice nor the 2025/2026 advert notice gives weights or grade points. The 2025/2026 advert notice did refer to a separate screening score with a 160 threshold, but it did not say how that score is worked out.

Several Nigerian education blogs describe the same method, and it is the one you will see most often: 60% of your UTME score plus 40% of an O’level score built from four relevant subjects, where A1 = 100, B2 = 90, B3 = 80, C4 = 70, C5 = 60 and C6 = 50. Treat the example below as an illustration of that blog method. It is not an official UNN formula.

StepWorking
UTME score200
O’level: English LanguageC5 = 60
O’level: MathematicsC6 = 50
O’level: BiologyB3 = 80
O’level: ChemistryC4 = 70
O’level total (out of 400)260
60% of UTME200 × 0.6 = 120
40% of O’level260 × 0.4 = 104
Aggregate (out of 400)120 + 104 = 224

That Health Education candidate reaches 224 out of 400 with the blog method. Moving Biology from B3 to A1 would add 8 aggregate points, the same as roughly 13 UTME marks. For HKS, the sports skills test is a pass or fail hurdle on top of whatever UNN uses to rank you. UNN has not confirmed its formula, so use this to compare grades and nothing more.

Merit, catchment and ELDS for Human Kinetics and Health Education at UNN

UNN is a federal university, so it works under the federal admission guideline that is widely reported as 45% merit, 35% catchment and 20% educationally less developed states (ELDS). UNN has not published its own split for any course, so read that as the national policy rather than a UNN figure.

  • Merit: the top scorers in the course, from any state, fill this list first. It is where the highest cut-off sits.
  • Catchment: UNN has not published its catchment list. It is generally understood to be the South-East states; confirm on JAMB CAPS or with the UNN admissions office before you count on it.
  • ELDS: this is a federal designation. UNN does not publish its own ELDS list, and I would not rely on any blog that names states “for UNN”.
  • State of origin: the state on your JAMB profile is what counts, and UNN asks for an LGA identification letter as proof during screening.

Human Kinetics and Health Education do not draw the crowds that Nursing or Medical Laboratory Science do, so a candidate near the screening minimum has a better chance here, especially from a South-East state. UNN has not said how many places either degree had for 2026/2027.

What score should you aim for in Human Kinetics and Health Education at UNN?

My advice (not a UNN figure): aim for 200 or more in the UTME, which also puts you above UNN’s declared benchmark. In the 180s you still have a chance, particularly on catchment or if you pass the HKS skills test comfortably. These are my estimates, not UNN figures.

Your UTME scoreMy reading for Human Kinetics and Health Education at UNN
Below 160Not eligible for UNN screening
160 to 179Eligible, but plan a backup
180 to 199Possible, especially on catchment

Warning

JAMB’s 2026 policy gives candidates four weeks to accept an admission offer on CAPS. An offer left unaccepted after that can be withdrawn and given to someone else, so check CAPS every few days once UNN starts releasing lists.

  1. Get or recover your JAMB profile code: text NIN, a space and your 11-digit NIN (for example, NIN 12345678901) to 55019 or 66019 from the phone number linked to your NIN. JAMB replies with your profile code, which you need for registration and other JAMB services.
  2. Make UNN your first choice: UNN screens only candidates who chose it first. If you are planning for 2027, pick UNN and Human Kinetics and Health Education at registration so you do not pay for a change of institution later.
  3. Upload your O’level to CAPS: your WAEC, NECO or NABTEB result has to show on your JAMB profile. For 2026/2027 UNN asked for the upload to CAPS and the UNN portal by 5 August 2026. A JAMB-accredited CBT centre can do the CAPS upload for you.
  4. Register for UNN screening: when the next notice comes out, fill the form on unnportal.unn.edu.ng, pay through Remita and print your acknowledgement slip.
  5. Check CAPS: log in at efacility.jamb.gov.ng, click Check Admission Status, then Access My CAPS and Admission Status. On a phone, switch your browser to desktop view first.
  6. Accept or reject: read the course name carefully, then click Accept. If you see a Transfer Approval, UNN is offering you a different course, and you must respond to that before anything else.
  7. Print your JAMB admission letter and pay acceptance: after CAPS, pay UNN’s acceptance fee on the UNN portal. Blogs report it as ₦25,000, but I found no official 2026/2027 figure, so confirm the amount on the portal before you pay.
  8. Clearance: follow your faculty’s clearance instructions with your original documents. Nobody can “secure” a place for you on CAPS for money.

UNN’s homepage already carries 2026/2027 notices for its primary admission list, its Direct Entry list and lists for candidates with disabilities and foreign candidates, and Myschool reported on 25 October 2026 that the list is checkable on CAPS. JAMB also told public universities to conclude 2026 admissions by 31 October 2026. Our JAMB CAPS guide explains every status message you may see.

What the course is like at UNN

HKS is physical. The department’s course list includes athletics, swimming, gymnastics, ball and racquet games and weight training alongside sports psychology, biomechanics, exercise prescription, sports law, sports marketing and sports facility planning. Expect practicals most weeks and a final-year project.

HED reads more like a public health course with a teaching component: anatomy and physiology, nutrition, environmental health, reproductive health, first aid, epidemiology, health economics, school health and health promotion, plus teaching practice and a project.

Careers listed by the department

  • HKS: PE or sports teacher at any level; organising secretary in state sports councils, the National Sports Commission or clubs; director of sports in councils and higher institutions; recreation, fitness and tourism manager; coach; trainer in military and paramilitary services; sports reporter.
  • HED: health educator in hospitals, family planning clinics and maternal and child health units; health counsellor and safety officer in industry; school teacher; NGO programme officer; health programme consultant; lecturer or researcher.

Related UNN courses: UNN Science Education, UNN Nutrition and Dietetics, UNN Nursing Science and UNN Medical Rehabilitation.

Common mistakes

  • No Biology: both degrees lean on it, and Health Education names it at O’level.
  • Ignoring the HKS skills test: a good UTME score does not replace it.
  • No Mathematics credit: it is part of UNN’s university minimum.
  • Choosing UNN second: UNN screens first-choice candidates only.
  • Not uploading O’level to CAPS: your offer cannot be processed without it.

UNN Human Kinetics and Health Education cut off mark: frequently asked questions
