There is no published Gregory University cut-off mark for Civil Engineering. Gregory University, Uturu (GUU) sets one minimum UTME score for all its courses: 140 in 2024/2025 (the university’s own notice) and again in 2025/2026. For 2026 admissions, though, JAMB raised the minimum for every Nigerian university to 150, so 150 is the lowest score you should plan with. I would aim for 180 or more for Civil Engineering.
2027/2028 update: Gregory University cut-off marks usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the figures on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They come from the latest official figures: Gregory’s 2024/2025 and 2025/2026 notices and JAMB’s 2026 university minimum, since no Gregory 2026/2027 notice with a score was available. If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.
One more thing before you pick this course: I could not confirm the NUC accreditation status of Civil Engineering at Gregory University. NUC’s published accreditation results list could not be read as far as Gregory’s entries, and NUC’s online report pages show Gregory’s Business Administration and English programmes with full accreditation (visits in November 2024) but nothing for engineering. I found no COREN report either. Gregory’s College of Engineering lists Civil Engineering among its six departments, so the course runs; ask the university in writing about its NUC and COREN status before you pay acceptance.
If you would rather study at a university whose NUC result is published, ABSU’s Civil Engineering is listed with full accreditation and a maturity date of 2030 in NUC’s 1990 to 2025 results (see our ABSU Civil Engineering guide). MOUAU also runs the course (see our MOUAU Civil Engineering guide), and UNN’s department says it holds full accreditation (UNN Civil Engineering guide).

Gregory University cut-off mark history for Civil Engineering
| Session | Figure | What it means | Status |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2024/2025 | 140 | Lowest UTME score Gregory accepted for post-UTME screening, all courses | Official Gregory notice |
| 2025/2026 | 140 | Same minimum; Gregory had to be the first choice | Myschool reprint of the notice |
| 2026 (national) | 150 | JAMB’s minimum for every Nigerian university | JAMB policy meeting, reported by NAN |
| 2026/2027 (Gregory) | Not found | No Gregory notice with a score could be opened | Unverified |
| Civil Engineering | None published | Blog “departmental cut-off” figures cite no Gregory document | Unofficial |
Gregory has never published a separate Civil Engineering figure, so any site quoting one is guessing. Also, Gregory’s 140 cannot simply carry over into the 2026 cycle, because universities cannot admit below JAMB’s 150. If you scored between 140 and 149 in 2026, you are below the national line for universities this cycle.
Safe target score for Civil Engineering at Gregory University (my advice)
Gregory is a private university, and private universities tend to admit closer to the minimum than federal and state ones. Engineering still fills faster than many other courses, and your O’level grades count alongside your UTME score. This table is my judgement from how engineering admission works at universities in the South East. Gregory has published nothing like it.
| Your UTME score | My read for Gregory Civil Engineering |
|---|---|
| Below 150 | Below JAMB’s 2026 university minimum; not eligible |
| 150 to 169 | Eligible; you will need good O’level grades in Mathematics and Physics |
| 170 to 189 | Fair chance |
| 190 to 209 | Good |
| 210 and above | Strong |
I would aim for 180 or more. If your score is near the minimum, look early at Gregory’s Quantity Surveying or Architecture entries, which lead into the same building industry. A JAMB change of course is easier before admission starts than after.
JAMB subject combination and O’level for Civil Engineering at Gregory University
| Requirement | What the JAMB brochure says |
|---|---|
| Course name on JAMB | Civil Engineering (listed under Engineering, Environment and Technology on Gregory’s course list) |
| UTME | Use of English, Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry |
| O’level | Five SSCE credits: Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, English Language and one science subject |
| Direct Entry | A-level passes in Physics and Mathematics, or ND/HND upper credit at appropriate levels |
| Gregory-specific remarks | None. The remarks name other universities only, so the general UTME, O’level and Direct Entry lines apply to Gregory |
Your four UTME papers are Use of English, Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry, with no alternative. At O’level you need credits in English Language, Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry, plus one more science subject. Biology is the usual choice; if you plan to use Technical Drawing or Further Mathematics as the fifth credit, ask Gregory first, because the brochure says “science subject” and has no Gregory remark. Gregory’s 2025/2026 notice accepted WAEC, NECO or NABTEB results in not more than two sittings.
Civil Engineering suits you if you like Mathematics and Physics and do not mind fieldwork in the sun and rain. Expect a lot of drawing, design calculation and site visits.
Direct Entry
Civil Engineering has one of the more open Direct Entry lines in the brochure: A-level passes in Physics and Mathematics, or an ND or HND at upper credit, admitted at the level the university decides. Gregory has no remark on this entry, so the general line is the one to work from. Gregory advertised Direct Entry for 2026/2027 alongside UTME screening; ask which level an ND or HND holder joins before you pay.
How Gregory University screens applicants
Gregory runs an online post-UTME screening. The details below come from two notices: the university’s own 19 August 2024 notice for 2024/2025, and the 2025/2026 notice as reprinted by Myschool on 24 July 2025. I could not open a 2026/2027 notice, though a news summary says Gregory opened 2026/2027 post-UTME, Direct Entry, transfer, JUPEB and IJMB admissions.
| Detail | What the notices said |
|---|---|
| Who could apply | 2025/2026: candidates who chose Gregory as first choice and scored at least 140. Others had to do a change of institution at a JAMB office or accredited CBT centre first |
| Where to apply | gregoryuniversityuturu.edu.ng/postutme |
| Steps (2024 notice) | Fill the form, upload a passport photograph and other documents, then pay online |
| Documents (2025 notice) | Passport photograph and UTME result as PDF files, plus WAEC, NECO or NABTEB result (maximum two sittings) |
| Fee | ₦2,000, non-refundable, by ATM card (2025/2026) |
| Written test or interview | Not stated in either notice |
| Enquiries | 0806 094 4681 and 0803 733 3920 (2024 notice) |
Neither notice describes a written test, so plan as if Gregory will rank you on your UTME score and O’level grades. For Civil Engineering, your Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry grades will carry the most weight.
Worked example for Civil Engineering applicants
Gregory has not published an aggregate formula. To show how O’level grades can move you up or down, I use an illustrative method common at Nigerian universities: UTME score divided by 8 (up to 50 points) plus O’level points for five relevant subjects, where A1 = 10, B2 = 9, B3 = 8, C4 = 7, C5 = 6 and C6 = 5 (up to 50 points). This is my example, not Gregory’s formula.
- Chiamaka scored 176 with B2, B3, B2, B3, B3 in English, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology. UTME points: 176 ÷ 8 = 22. O’level points: 9 + 8 + 9 + 8 + 8 = 42. Illustrative total: 64.
- Obinna scored 198 with C5, C6, C6, C5, C6 in the same five subjects. UTME points: 198 ÷ 8 = 24.75. O’level points: 6 + 5 + 5 + 6 + 5 = 27. Illustrative total: 51.75.
- The result: Chiamaka leads by 12.25 points, even though Obinna scored 22 more marks in the UTME, because Chiamaka’s O’level points are 15 higher.
How to apply for Civil Engineering at Gregory University, step by step
- Get a JAMB profile code: text NIN, a space and your 11-digit NIN to 55019 or 66019 from the SIM linked to that NIN. The code arrives by SMS.
- Register the UTME correctly: choose Civil Engineering at Gregory University, Uturu as your first choice, with Use of English, Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry. If Gregory is not your first choice, do a JAMB change of institution before you apply for screening.
- Upload your O’level to CAPS: at an accredited JAMB CBT centre once your result is out. Check that every required credit shows on your JAMB profile.
- Apply for Gregory’s screening: go to gregoryuniversityuturu.edu.ng/postutme, fill the form, upload your passport photograph, UTME result and O’level as PDF files, and pay the fee online (₦2,000 in 2025/2026).
- Keep your records: save the payment receipt and the printout of your completed form for clearance.
- Check your status: watch the Gregory portal and your JAMB CAPS page. Every offer appears on CAPS.
- Accept on CAPS: log in at efacility.jamb.gov.ng, choose Check Admission Status, then Access my CAPS, and accept. JAMB gives four weeks. Our JAMB CAPS guide explains each status.
- Pay acceptance and fees: Gregory’s acceptance and tuition fees were not in any official source I reached. Pay only the amount on your Gregory portal invoice.
Warning
Every genuine Gregory University offer appears on JAMB CAPS, and JAMB said in May 2026 that admission outside CAPS is illegal. Gregory says it has authorised no agents. Pay screening, acceptance and school fees only through the university’s official portal.
JAMB set 30 November 2026 as the 2026/2027 admission deadline for private universities such as Gregory, and in September 2026 it kept the existing deadlines when it restored CAPS (Nairametrics, 28 September 2026). If you applied in 2026, check CAPS rather than waiting for a printed list.
Civil Engineering at Gregory University: the programme
Gregory University is a private university licensed in 2012, on a 100-hectare site at Amaokwe Achara, Uturu, in Isuikwuato LGA of Abia State. Its founder is Prof. Gregory Ikechukwu Ibe. The College of Engineering lists six departments on the university website: Civil, Electrical/Electronic, Mechanical, Petroleum, Chemical and Computer Engineering. The dean’s welcome message mentions heavy machinery, technical tools and engineering workshops, and hands-on projects, without naming specific laboratories.
What you study
Gregory has not published a course outline for Civil Engineering that I could reach. Nigerian engineering degrees follow the NUC benchmark, and the first two years are largely shared across engineering departments. You can expect:
- Foundations: engineering mathematics, physics, chemistry, technical drawing and workshop practice.
- Structures: strength of materials, structural analysis, and reinforced concrete and steel design.
- Ground: engineering geology, soil mechanics and foundation design.
- Water: fluid mechanics, hydraulics, hydrology, water supply and waste water engineering.
- Transport: surveying, highway design and traffic engineering.
- Practice: construction management, estimating, SIWES industrial training and a final-year project.
Accreditation, degree and duration
I could not confirm NUC accreditation for Gregory’s Civil Engineering. NUC’s results publication (1990 to 2025) could not be read as far as Gregory, and none of NUC’s online programme reports I found names a Gregory engineering course. COREN accreditation matters as well, because COREN registration as an engineer later depends on it, and I found no COREN report for Gregory. The degree is normally a B.Eng, and five years is the usual length for UTME entrants in Nigerian engineering, with Direct Entry students joining at 200 level; Gregory’s own page does not state either.
Careers
- Site engineer with building and road contractors.
- Structural design engineer in a consulting firm.
- Water resources and drainage work with state water boards and agencies.

Mistakes that cost Civil Engineering applicants a Gregory place
- Treating 140 as the 2026 figure: JAMB’s 2026 university minimum is 150.
- Swapping Chemistry for Geography or Technical Drawing in the UTME: the brochure requires Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics.
- Using Technical Drawing as the fifth credit without asking: the general line says science subject.
- Not putting Gregory first: the 2025/2026 notice admitted only first-choice candidates.
- Paying anyone outside the portal: Gregory has warned against unofficial channels.
- Missing the CAPS window: JAMB gives four weeks to accept an offer.
