Gregory University Cut-Off Mark for Nursing Science 2027/2028: Requirements, Subject Combination and Screening

Gregory University used 140 for all courses; JAMB’s 2026 floor is 150. Nursing has full NMCN approval and a reported quota of 50. See subjects, O’level, Direct Entry, screening and my safe target.

Gregory University does not publish a separate cut-off mark for Nursing Science. The university’s minimum UTME score for every course was 140 in 2024/2025 and 2025/2026, but JAMB’s 2026 minimum for universities is 150, so 2027/2028 candidates should treat 150 as the floor. Nursing is one of Gregory’s most sought-after courses, and I would aim for 200 or more.

2027/2028 update: Gregory University cut-off marks usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the figures on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They come from the latest notices available: Gregory’s 2024/2025 and 2025/2026 screening notices, read together with JAMB’s 2026 minimum for universities, because no 2026/2027 Gregory notice with a score could be found. If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.

The Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria’s December 2025 list of approved schools shows the Department of Nursing Sciences, Gregory University, Uturu with Full approval dated April 2024. Gregory’s first 21 nursing graduates were inducted after convocation in December 2024, and the department’s admission quota was reported as 50. With so few places, I set the target well above the floor.

The 140 figure is the floor for every course at Gregory, not a figure for one department. Because JAMB fixed 150 as the university minimum for 2026 admissions, I would not plan with 140 any more. Plan for at least 150, and read Gregory’s 2027/2028 notice the day it comes out.

Safe target score for Nursing at Gregory (my advice)

Gregory has not released the scores it admitted for Nursing. Two facts shape my estimate. The Guardian reported a quota of 50 students, with the head of department asking the council to raise it to 150, and nursing remains one of the most applied-for courses in the South East. With 50 places, many qualified applicants miss out.

Your UTME scoreMy read for this course at Gregory
Below 150Not eligible under JAMB’s 2026 rule
150 to 179Eligible; unlikely for Nursing
180 to 199Possible with strong one-sitting credits
200 to 229Competitive
230 and aboveStrong

If you land between 150 and 190, register anyway, but decide early whether you would accept Public Health or Medical Laboratory Science at Gregory. Other approved Abia options include ABSU Nursing Science and Rhema University Nursing Science.

Gregory Nursing subject combination and O’level requirements

JAMB lists this course for Gregory as Nursing / Nursing Science. The brochure entry for Nursing / Nursing Science, reprinted by Myschool, gives Chemistry, Biology and Physics as the UTME subjects. It has long remarks for about twenty universities, and Gregory is not among them.

UTME subjectStatus
Use of EnglishCompulsory
BiologyCompulsory
ChemistryCompulsory
PhysicsCompulsory

O’level rules

RequirementWhat applies at Gregory
Brochure ruleFive credits in Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology, Physics and English Language
Gregory remark in the brochureNone
Exams acceptedWAEC, NECO or NABTEB (Gregory notice)
SittingsUp to two sittings in Gregory’s general notice; with only 50 places, one sitting puts you ahead

Physics catches many nursing applicants out. Candidates assume Nursing is a Biology and Chemistry course, then find that both JAMB and the O’level rule demand Physics.

Direct Entry into Gregory Nursing

The brochure’s general Direct Entry options are:

  • A level passes in any two of Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Mathematics
  • Two A level passes in Biology or Zoology, Chemistry and Physics, with O’level credits in Mathematics, Physics and English
  • Registered Nurse (NRN) or an approved equivalent, with five O’level credits including English and four science subjects
  • An upper credit ND in Prosthesis and Orthopaedic Technology (as printed in the brochure)

There is no Gregory remark, so the brochure does not say which of these Gregory accepts or what level you join at. Registered nurses who want the degree should ask the department directly before buying a DE form.

How Gregory University screening works for Nursing Science

Gregory runs one screening exercise for all its degree courses, and Nursing Science applicants go through the same portal as everyone else. The details below come from the university’s 2024/2025 news page and the 2025/2026 notice as reprinted by Myschool. I could not find the 2026/2027 notice itself, although news headlines show the university advertised 2026/2027 Post-UTME, Direct Entry, transfer, JUPEB and IJMB admission.

No Gregory notice mentions a computer-based test, so do not pay anyone selling Gregory “past questions”. My working assumption is that the university ranks applicants on UTME score and O’level grades, then sends offers through JAMB CAPS. If a later notice adds a test or an interview, follow the notice.

Worked example: two Nursing Science applicants

Gregory has not published an aggregate formula, so this example only compares scores with JAMB’s 150 floor and my target. It is illustrative.

Ngozi scored 226 in the UTME. She has B2 in English, B3 in Mathematics, B3 in Physics, A1 in Chemistry and B2 in Biology from one WAEC sitting.

  1. Eligibility: 226 minus 150 = 76. Clear of the national floor, and well clear of Gregory’s old 140.
  2. Against my target: 226 minus 200 = 26 above the score I call safe.
  3. O’level check: all five required credits are in place.
  4. What to do: register on the Gregory portal as soon as it opens and accept the CAPS offer quickly.

Emeka scored 184. He has all five credits, but over two sittings. He is eligible (184 minus 150 = 34) but 16 marks under my target. He should still register, and decide early whether he would take a related course if Gregory offers one through CAPS.

How to apply for Nursing Science at Gregory University, step by step

  1. Get your JAMB profile code: send NIN, a space and your 11-digit NIN to 55019 or 66019 from the phone line linked to your NIN.
  2. Register the UTME with Gregory as first choice: pick Nursing Science and write Use of English with Biology, Chemistry and Physics. The 2025/2026 notice addressed first-choice candidates, so if Gregory is not your first choice, do a JAMB change of institution before screening.
  3. Upload your O’level to CAPS: at a JAMB-accredited CBT centre. Awaiting result candidates must upload as soon as results are out, because CAPS will not treat you as qualified without them.
  4. Register on the Gregory portal: at gregoryuniversityuturu.edu.ng/postutme, fill the form and upload your passport (PDF), UTME result and O’level result.
  5. Pay the screening fee online: ₦2,000 in 2025/2026, by ATM card. Print the receipt and the completed form.
  6. Accept on CAPS: log in at efacility.jamb.gov.ng, open Check Admission Status and then Access my CAPS. Accept the offer before you pay anything to the school.
  7. Pay acceptance and clear: Gregory’s acceptance fee and tuition were not in any official source I reached. Pay only the amount on the invoice the university portal generates.

Warning

Gregory University’s website warns applicants to pay only through its official portals and says it has no admission agents. Real offers appear only on JAMB CAPS, so do not pay anyone who promises a Nursing Science “slot” or a place on a “departmental list”.

JAMB set 30 November 2026 as the 2026/2027 admission deadline for private universities, Gregory included, so anyone who applied this year should keep checking CAPS. Our JAMB CAPS guide explains every status you might see there.

Studying Nursing Science at Gregory University

Gregory is a private university at Amaokwe-Achara, Uturu, Abia State, licensed in 2012, according to the university. Nursing Sciences is a department in the College of Allied Health Sciences. According to the Guardian, Gregory’s first set of 21 nursing graduates (17 women and four men) were convoked on 10 December 2024 and then inducted into the profession, and the best graduated with first class honours. The head of department named in that report is Associate Professor Chinyere Nwufo. A feature in The Sun (20 April 2026) reported 39 more nurses inducted between March and April 2026.

What you study

Gregory’s curriculum was not online in any source I reached. A Nigerian B.N.Sc usually covers:

  • First-year sciences, then anatomy, physiology, biochemistry and pharmacology
  • Medical-surgical nursing and nursing of children
  • Maternal and child health, including midwifery content
  • Community and public health nursing
  • Mental health and psychiatric nursing
  • Hospital and community clinical postings and a research project

Duration, approval and licensing

The degree is the Bachelor of Nursing Science (B.N.Sc), which in Nigeria normally runs for five years; Gregory has not published its own duration. NMCN’s December 2025 list gives the department Full approval from April 2024. Full approval on that list is for five years, so on my reading it runs to about April 2029; check the department’s current status at clearance. I could not read Gregory’s line in NUC’s accreditation results publication, so its NUC status is not confirmed here, although NMCN approval and the inductions show the programme is running and producing licensed nurses.

Careers

  • Registered nurse in public and private hospitals
  • Public health and community nursing
  • Specialist nursing after post-basic training
  • Nurse education and research after postgraduate study
  • Nursing work abroad, subject to the destination country’s licensing rules

For UTME revision, use our JAMB Biology syllabus and JAMB Chemistry syllabus for 2027. If you need to switch course or school later, read JAMB change of course, and if you are planning another attempt, see when JAMB 2027 registration starts.

Mistakes that cost Nursing applicants a Gregory place

  • Leaving Physics out: it is required in both the UTME and the O’level.
  • Planning with 140: JAMB’s 2026 university floor is 150, and 50 places push the real bar higher.
  • Spreading credits over two sittings when you could avoid it: one sitting is the stronger profile.
  • Not registering on the Gregory portal: CAPS offers follow the university’s own screening.
  • Paying an agent: Gregory says it has no admission agents.
