The SUMAS cut off mark for Human Nutrition and Dietetics in 2026/2027 is 150 in the UTME. That is the general minimum the State University of Medical and Applied Sciences (SUMAS), Igbo-Eno, Enugu State, announced in its 2026/2027 Post-UTME notice for all its programmes, and it was 150 in 2025/2026 too. Candidates with 150 or more, SUMAS as first choice and five O’Level credits including English, Mathematics and Physics could apply for screening.
2027/2028 update: SUMAS cut-off marks usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the figures on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They come from the latest official notice (2026/2027). If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.
SUMAS has not published a departmental cut off for Nutrition and Dietetics in any session, and it has not released an aggregate formula, a merit list with scores or a catchment list. Below you will find the official figures, the subjects and grades the course needs, a worked screening example, my advice on a safe score, the admission steps and what the degree leads to.
SUMAS Nutrition and Dietetics cut off mark 2027/2028 at a glance

| School fees | ₦301,400 for Pharmacy and Allied Health | 2022/2023 schedule, the latest published |
The 150 is a general cut off: it decides who may apply. A departmental cut off would be the lowest score SUMAS admitted into Nutrition and Dietetics in a given year, which it could only know after screening. SUMAS has published the first figure and never the second.
SUMAS cut off mark for Nutrition and Dietetics by session
| Session | Minimum UTME to apply | Departmental cut off | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2026/2027 | 150 | Not published | SUMAS Post-UTME and Direct Entry notice |
| 2025/2026 (previous year) | 150 | Not published | SUMAS notice as reproduced by Myschool, July 2025 |
The minimum has not moved in two sessions, but universities review it each year after the JAMB policy meeting. When the 2027/2028 SUMAS notice comes out, check the figure again. A 160 quoted for SUMAS on some directory sites traces to a private listing that also calls SUMAS a federal university; ignore it.
Is Human Nutrition and Dietetics at SUMAS accredited?
Yes, by the NUC. The programme was one of the 15 SUMAS degrees granted full accreditation after the NUC exercise of 28 October to 3 December 2025.
Professional accreditation is a separate question. Dietitians in Nigeria register with a professional body after graduation, and SUMAS has not published any professional accreditation for this programme. Its late 2025 notice said some professional bodies had approved programmes after resource verification and others had not yet visited, without naming which. Ask the department about this before you accept, because it affects your registration as a dietitian later.
UTME subjects and O’Level requirements
SUMAS uses the JAMB brochure for subject requirements. The brochure entry for Human Nutrition and Dietetics, as reproduced by Myschool, is in the table below. JAMB lists more than one nutrition course with slightly different wording, so confirm the entry for SUMAS on the JAMB e-brochure before you register.
| Requirement | Human Nutrition and Dietetics |
|---|---|
| UTME subjects | Use of English, Chemistry, Biology, Physics |
| O’Level (JAMB brochure) | Five credits in English Language, Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Mathematics |
| O’Level (SUMAS rule) | Five credits including English Language, Mathematics and Physics, plus two other relevant subjects |
| Sittings | Maximum of two |
| Direct Entry (SUMAS rule) | At least second class lower or its equivalent in OND, HND or a first degree, cleared on JAMB e-Facility |
| Direct Entry (JAMB brochure) | Two A Level passes in Chemistry, Biology and Physics |
Some students pick Nutrition thinking it is a “soft” alternative that skips Physics. At SUMAS it does not: Physics is compulsory at O’Level for every programme, and it is one of your three UTME science subjects for this course. Plan for credits in English, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology.
The SUMAS Direct Entry rule names OND, HND and first degree holders. A Level, JUPEB and IJMB are not mentioned, so call the admissions office on 08067390088 if you are coming in that way. Holders of an ND in nutrition, food science or a related field should also confirm whether SUMAS will place them in 200 level.
For UTME preparation, see our JAMB Biology syllabus and JAMB Chemistry syllabus. Chemistry carries a lot of this degree, so the effort pays twice.
How SUMAS ranks Nutrition and Dietetics applicants
SUMAS described its 2026/2027 Post-UTME as a screening exercise and did not publish a written test or a test date. It has not said how it combines your UTME score with your O’Level results. Some admitted candidates who had not done the Post-UTME were later asked to register on SAMP, pay the screening fee and report to the ICT Unit for verification, which suggests a records-based screening. SUMAS has not confirmed that.
Many Nigerian universities use a 50/50 aggregate. It is shown here only to make the arithmetic concrete. SUMAS has not published its formula, so do not treat this as SUMAS’s method.
- UTME part: your UTME score divided by 8 (maximum 50).
- O’Level part: points for five relevant subjects, where A1 = 10, B2 = 9, B3 = 8, C4 = 7, C5 = 6 and C6 = 5 (maximum 50).
- Aggregate: the two parts added together, out of 100.
Halima scored 212 in the UTME. Her NECO result shows B2 in Biology, B3 in Chemistry, B3 in English Language, C4 in Mathematics and C5 in Physics.
| Part | Working | Points |
|---|---|---|
| UTME | 212 ÷ 8 | 26.5 |
| O’Level | 9 + 8 + 8 + 7 + 6 | 38 |
| Total | 26.5 + 38 | 64.5 out of 100 |
If Halima had a B3 in Physics instead of C5, she would gain 2 points, as much as 16 extra UTME marks would give her. Under a records-based method, your weakest science grade is often the cheapest thing to fix.
How competitive is Nutrition and Dietetics at SUMAS?
Less crowded than Medicine, DPT or Nursing, but not an easy course to enter. It is a health profession with a clear career at the end, and SUMAS did not reopen it on the October 2026 supplementary list. That list covered only programmes that still had places, so Nutrition and Dietetics appears to have filled through the main batches.
SUMAS has not published a quota for the course, a catchment list or an ELDS list. The 45% merit, 35% catchment and 20% ELDS split is a federal guideline; SUMAS is a state university and has never said it uses it.
My advice (not an official figure): aim for 200 or above in the UTME for Human Nutrition and Dietetics at SUMAS, with credits of B3 or better in Chemistry and Biology. Candidates between 170 and 200 are still in the running, especially with strong O’Level grades, but SUMAS gives no published line to measure against.
How to apply to SUMAS for Nutrition and Dietetics
- JAMB profile code: text NIN, a space and your 11-digit NIN to 55019 or 66019 from the phone number linked to your NIN. Use the profile code JAMB sends back to register at a CBT centre.
- SUMAS as first choice: select State University of Medical and Applied Sciences, Igbo-Eno, first, with Human Nutrition and Dietetics as your course. If you chose another school, make a change of institution before SUMAS screening. Only first-choice candidates are screened.
- Upload O’Level on CAPS: your results must show on JAMB CAPS. SUMAS set 15 August 2026 as its upload deadline this cycle.
- Post-UTME application: register at sumas.edu.ng/apply or samp.sumas.edu.ng, pay ₦2,000 with your JAMB number as narration, and enter exactly the same JAMB number, date of birth, state of origin and course you have on CAPS. You may apply only once.
- Check your status: look at the SUMAS batch lists and log in to JAMB e-Facility, then Check Admission Status and Access my CAPS. Confirm on SAMP too.
- Accept the admission: click Accept on CAPS and print your JAMB admission letter. If SUMAS offered you another course, you had three days to change it on JAMB in 2026/2027.
- Pay the acceptance fee: log in at eportal.sumas.edu.ng as NEW STUDENT (JAMB number plus SAMP password), generate the ₦50,000 acceptance fee and pay it on the SUMAS Revenue Portal.
Our SUMAS Post-UTME form 2026/2027 guide has the full eligibility list, and our SUMAS admission list guide covers clearance and documents. If a CAPS status confuses you, read our JAMB CAPS guide.
O’Level upload
SUMAS cannot screen you without O’Level results on JAMB CAPS. In 2026 its upload deadline was 15 August, weeks before screening closed, so upload as soon as your WAEC or NECO result is out.
What you study in Human Nutrition and Dietetics
Nutrition and Dietetics covers how food affects health and how diet is used to prevent and treat disease. The first years are chemistry, biology and physics, followed by biochemistry, human anatomy and physiology. You then move on to human nutrition through the life cycle, food science, community and public health nutrition, nutrition assessment, diet therapy for conditions such as diabetes, kidney disease and malnutrition, and food service management, with hospital and community postings.
SUMAS has not published the duration of this programme; nutrition and dietetics degrees in Nigeria usually take four to five years. You study at the Igbo-Eno campus in Udenu Local Government Area, Enugu State. The SUMAS Teaching Hospital on the same site gives clinical exposure; the Enugu State Government reported in January 2026 that its outpatient department, a 100-bed Mother and Child Hospital and a 120-bed Medical Centre were complete.
The only fee schedule on the SUMAS website is for 2022/2023, when Pharmacy and Allied Health students paid ₦301,400. A 2026/2027 schedule has not been published. Add the ₦50,000 acceptance fee to your budget.
Careers in nutrition and dietetics
Graduates work as dietitians in hospitals, planning therapeutic diets for patients, and as nutritionists in public health programmes, NGOs and international agencies working on malnutrition. Other paths include food industry roles in product development and quality, sports nutrition, school feeding programmes, private consulting, teaching and research.

Common mistakes Nutrition applicants make
- Skipping Physics: SUMAS will not consider you without a Physics credit, whatever the course.
- Not making SUMAS first choice: second-choice candidates are not screened.
- Uploading O’Level late: a result that is not on CAPS by the SUMAS deadline leaves you out.
- Different details on SAMP and CAPS: a mismatch in date of birth, state or course can cancel your application.
- Paying an agent: all SUMAS payments go through its own portals.
SUMAS Nutrition and Dietetics cut off mark: frequently asked questions
Is 180 enough for Nutrition and Dietetics in SUMAS? It clears the 150 minimum, so you can be screened. SUMAS publishes no departmental cut off, so 180 may or may not be enough; good O’Level grades in Chemistry and Biology improve your chances, and 200 or more is safer.
Does Nutrition and Dietetics in SUMAS require Physics? Yes. SUMAS requires a credit in Physics at O’Level for every programme, and the JAMB brochure entry for Human Nutrition and Dietetics lists Physics among the UTME subjects.
Can I use awaiting result for SUMAS screening? You can register for the UTME while awaiting WAEC or NECO, but SUMAS needs the results on JAMB CAPS by its upload deadline (15 August in 2026). If your result is not out and uploaded by then, you will not be screened that year.
Is SUMAS Nutrition and Dietetics accredited? Yes. It received full NUC accreditation after the exercise of 28 October to 3 December 2025. SUMAS has not published approval from a dietetics professional body.
