SUMAS Cut-Off Mark for Physiotherapy (DPT) 2027/2028: Complete Entry Guide

The SUMAS cut off mark for Physiotherapy (Doctor of Physiotherapy) in 2027/2028 is 150. Here are the DPT subjects, O’Level rules, accreditation status, a screening example and the score I would aim for.

The SUMAS cut off mark for Physiotherapy (Doctor of Physiotherapy, DPT) in 2026/2027 is 150 in the UTME. The State University of Medical and Applied Sciences (SUMAS), Igbo-Eno, Enugu State, used that one figure for every course in its 2026/2027 Post-UTME notice, the same as in 2025/2026. A score of 150 or more, SUMAS as your first choice and the right O’Level credits made you eligible for screening into DPT.

2027/2028 update: SUMAS cut-off marks usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the figures on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They come from the latest official notice (2026/2027). If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.

What SUMAS has not done is publish a departmental cut off for Physiotherapy, for this year or any earlier one. There is no official merit list with scores, no aggregate formula and no catchment list. This guide covers what is official, the subjects DPT needs, how screening seems to work with a worked example, the score I would aim for, and every step from your JAMB profile code to the acceptance fee.

A general cut off and a departmental cut off are different things. The general one (150) is set before screening and decides who may apply. A departmental cut off is the lowest score admitted into one course after screening, which depends on how many people applied and how well they did. SUMAS releases only the first.

The minimum has stayed at 150 for two sessions. It is reviewed every year after JAMB’s policy meeting, so read the 2027/2028 notice when it comes out instead of assuming it will stay put. A figure of 160 for SUMAS appears on a private directory site that also lists SUMAS as a federal university; the university has not used it.

SUMAS admission lists show JAMB numbers with the middle digits hidden, grouped by course, and no scores. So a “SUMAS DPT cut off” you find on a blog is somebody’s estimate.

Is the SUMAS Doctor of Physiotherapy programme accredited?

By the NUC, yes. Doctor of Physiotherapy was one of the 15 SUMAS programmes that received full NUC accreditation after the exercise of 28 October to 3 December 2025.

Physiotherapists in Nigeria register with the Medical Rehabilitation Therapists (Registration) Board of Nigeria (MRTB). SUMAS has not published an MRTB accreditation for its DPT, and I found no MRTB notice about SUMAS either. The SUMAS accreditation notice said several professional bodies had approved programmes after resource verification and that others had not yet scheduled visits, without naming them. Before you accept, it is fair to ask the department where its MRTB status stands, since board approval affects your internship and registration after graduation.

UTME subjects and O’Level requirements for DPT

SUMAS follows the JAMB brochure for subjects. The brochure entry for Physiotherapy, as reproduced by Myschool, is summarised below; check the JAMB e-brochure for the DPT entry when you register.

RequirementDoctor of Physiotherapy at SUMAS
UTME subjectsUse of English, Physics, Chemistry, Biology
O’Level (JAMB brochure)Five credits in English Language, Mathematics, Biology, Physics and Chemistry
O’Level (SUMAS rule)Five credits including English Language, Mathematics and Physics, plus two other relevant subjects
SittingsMaximum of two
Direct Entry (SUMAS rule)At least second class lower or its equivalent in OND, HND or a first degree, cleared on JAMB e-Facility
Direct Entry (JAMB brochure)Two A Level passes from Physics, Chemistry and Biology

In practice you need credits in all five: English, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology. SUMAS requires a Physics credit for every course it runs.

The Direct Entry rule in the SUMAS notice mentions OND, HND and degree holders but says nothing about A Level, JUPEB or IJMB. If you plan to come in with one of those, call the admissions office on 08067390088 first.

Our JAMB Biology syllabus and JAMB Chemistry syllabus guides list every topic you will be tested on in two of your three science subjects.

How SUMAS screens DPT applicants

For 2026/2027, SUMAS described a screening exercise and never announced a written test or a test date. It has also not said how much your UTME score counts against your O’Level grades. Later notices told some admitted candidates who skipped the Post-UTME to register on SAMP, pay the screening fee and go to the ICT Unit for verification. That suggests screening is based on your records, though SUMAS has not confirmed the method.

Many Nigerian universities rank candidates with a 50/50 method, shown here so you can see how the numbers interact. SUMAS has not published its own formula, so this is an illustration only.

  1. UTME part: UTME score ÷ 8, out of 50.
  2. O’Level part: points for five relevant subjects (A1 = 10, B2 = 9, B3 = 8, C4 = 7, C5 = 6, C6 = 5), out of 50.
  3. Aggregate: add both parts for a score out of 100.

Chinedu scored 248 in the UTME. His WAEC shows B2 in Biology, B2 in Mathematics, B3 in Physics, B3 in Chemistry and B3 in English Language.

PartWorkingPoints
UTME248 ÷ 831
O’Level9 + 9 + 8 + 8 + 842
Total31 + 4273 out of 100

Under a method like this, a candidate with 232 and straight A1s in the five subjects would score 29 + 50 = 79 and finish above Chinedu. Your WAEC grades can count for as much as a big jump in your JAMB score.

How hard is it to get DPT at SUMAS?

Hard. Physiotherapy is one of the most sought-after Allied Health courses in Nigeria, and at SUMAS it now leads to a doctorate-level professional degree. DPT appeared in the first 2026/2027 admission batch alongside Medicine and Surgery, and it was not reopened on the October 2026 supplementary list, which only covered programmes that still had space. Both point to a course that filled early.

SUMAS has not published a DPT quota, catchment states or an ELDS list. The 45% merit, 35% catchment and 20% ELDS split is a guideline for federal universities. SUMAS is owned by Enugu State and has never said it uses that split, so do not count on a state-of-origin advantage it has not announced.

My advice (not an official figure): for DPT at SUMAS, aim for 230 or above in the UTME with B3 or better in Physics, Chemistry and Biology. Candidates around 200 do get screened, but without a published cut off you should have a second choice in mind before the lists come out.

Steps to secure admission into SUMAS Physiotherapy

  1. Profile code: send NIN, a space and your 11-digit NIN to 55019 or 66019 from the line registered with your NIN. Take the code JAMB sends you to an accredited CBT centre for UTME registration.
  2. First choice: list State University of Medical and Applied Sciences, Igbo-Eno, as your first choice and Doctor of Physiotherapy as your course. If SUMAS is not first, do a JAMB change of institution before screening; SUMAS screens first-choice candidates only.
  3. O’Level on CAPS: make sure your WAEC, NECO or NABTEB results are uploaded to JAMB CAPS. SUMAS gave 15 August 2026 as the upload deadline for this cycle.
  4. SUMAS screening portal: apply at sumas.edu.ng/apply or samp.sumas.edu.ng, pay ₦2,000 with your JAMB number as narration, and enter details that match CAPS exactly (JAMB number, date of birth, state of origin, course). One application per candidate.
  5. Admission status: check the SUMAS batch lists, then log in to JAMB e-Facility and open Check Admission Status and Access my CAPS. Confirm on SAMP as well.
  6. Accept the offer: accept on CAPS and print the JAMB admission letter. If you were offered a different course, change it on JAMB within three days, as the 2026/2027 notice required.
  7. Acceptance fee: on eportal.sumas.edu.ng, click NEW STUDENT, log in with your JAMB number and SAMP password, generate the ₦50,000 acceptance fee and pay through the SUMAS Revenue Portal.

Read our SUMAS Post-UTME form 2026/2027 guide for eligibility details and our SUMAS admission list guide for clearance. Our JAMB CAPS guide explains each CAPS status.

Pay only on the official portal

SUMAS warns candidates not to pay acceptance or school fees through agents or into personal bank accounts. Every payment goes through the SUMAS Revenue Portal from your ePortal dashboard.

What the Doctor of Physiotherapy course covers

Physiotherapy deals with restoring movement and function after injury, illness or disability, using exercise, manual therapy, electrotherapy and patient education. Your early years cover physics, chemistry and biology, then human anatomy, physiology and biochemistry. Later you take courses in exercise therapy, biomechanics, musculoskeletal, neurological, cardiopulmonary and paediatric physiotherapy, and spend long periods on clinical postings with real patients.

Doctor of Physiotherapy programmes in Nigeria usually run for six years. SUMAS has not published the length of its own DPT, so confirm it with the department. You will study at the Igbo-Eno campus in Udenu Local Government Area, Enugu State, where the SUMAS Teaching Hospital is being developed; the Enugu State Government reported in January 2026 that its outpatient department, a 100-bed Mother and Child Hospital and a 120-bed Medical Centre were complete.

The latest SUMAS fee schedule online is for 2022/2023: ₦301,400 for Pharmacy and Allied Health students. No 2026/2027 schedule has been published, so expect a different figure, plus the ₦50,000 acceptance fee.

Careers for physiotherapy graduates

After graduation and registration with the MRTB, physiotherapists work in hospitals, rehabilitation centres, sports clubs, orthopaedic and stroke units, private clinics and home care. Some move into sports physiotherapy, paediatric rehabilitation, women’s health or research and teaching.

Other SUMAS programmes with the same UTME subjects, in case DPT does not come through:

Mistakes that cost DPT applicants their place

  • Choosing SUMAS second: you will not be screened. Change institution first.
  • Weak Physics or Chemistry grades: a C6 in either drags your O’Level points down and, under SUMAS rules, Physics must be a credit at minimum.
  • Different details on two portals: a course or date of birth on SAMP that differs from CAPS can void your application.
  • Leaving an offer unanswered: an offer on CAPS is not your admission until you accept it and pay the acceptance fee.
  • Believing unofficial cut offs: SUMAS has never released one for DPT.

SUMAS Physiotherapy cut off mark: frequently asked questions

What is the cut off mark for Physiotherapy in SUMAS? The only official figure is 150, the SUMAS minimum for all courses in 2026/2027. SUMAS has never published a separate cut off for Doctor of Physiotherapy.

Is 230 enough for Physiotherapy at SUMAS? A 230 is a competitive score for DPT at SUMAS, especially with good grades in Physics, Chemistry and Biology. Nobody can promise admission because SUMAS publishes no departmental cut off, but 230 is about where I would want a candidate to be.

How many years is Doctor of Physiotherapy at SUMAS? SUMAS has not published the duration. DPT programmes in Nigeria usually take six years, so ask the department to confirm.

Can I change from Physiotherapy to another course at SUMAS? If SUMAS offers you a different course, it appears on CAPS and you change your course on JAMB to match. In 2026/2027, SUMAS gave candidates three days to make that change.
