SUMAS Cut-Off Mark for Health Administration and Hospital Management 2027/2028: Admission Guide

The SUMAS cut off mark for Health Care Administration and Hospital Management in 2027/2028 is 150, and the course was on the October 2026 supplementary list. See subjects, accreditation status and admission steps.

The SUMAS cut off mark for Health Administration (full name: Health Care Administration and Hospital Management) in 2026/2027 is 150 in the UTME. That is the general minimum the State University of Medical and Applied Sciences (SUMAS), Igbo-Eno, Enugu State, set for all programmes in its 2026/2027 Post-UTME notice, and the same 150 applied in 2025/2026. It is also the score SUMAS asked for when it reopened this course on its supplementary admission list in October 2026.

2027/2028 update: SUMAS cut-off marks usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the figures on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They come from the latest official notice (2026/2027). If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.

SUMAS has never published a departmental cut off for this course, and it has no published aggregate formula, merit scores or catchment list. The programme is approved and running but not yet accredited by the NUC, because its accreditation visit is due in 2026. This guide covers the official figures, the supplementary admission, the subjects you need, how screening seems to work, my advice on a target score and where the degree can take you.

The course name varies between SUMAS documents. The Post-UTME programme list calls it Health Care Administration and Hospital Management, while the supplementary list says Health Administration and Hospital Management. Both refer to the same programme in the Faculty of Allied Health Sciences. When you pick the course on JAMB, use the name that appears under SUMAS on the JAMB portal.

The general cut off decides who may be screened. A departmental cut off would be the lowest score admitted into the course after screening, which SUMAS has never released. The minimum is reviewed every year after the JAMB policy meeting, so check the 2027/2028 SUMAS notice. You may see 160 listed for SUMAS on a private directory that also calls it a federal university; it is not a SUMAS figure.

The 2027/2028 supplementary admission for Health Administration

On 17 October 2026, Myschool and FreshNote reported a SUMAS supplementary admission exercise for programmes that still had places. Health Administration and Hospital Management was on the list. I could not find the notice on the SUMAS website itself, so read the details below as reported.

  • Who could apply: candidates with 150 or more in the 2026 UTME who chose SUMAS as first choice but were not admitted into their course, and candidates willing to change their first choice to SUMAS.
  • Other programmes on the list: Architecture, the six Engineering programmes, Prosthetics and Orthotics, Dental Therapy, Dental Technology, Applied Microbiology, Biochemistry, Genetics and Biotechnology, ICT, Industrial Chemistry, Pure and Industrial Physics, Pharmacology and Human Physiology.
  • Not on the list: Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy, Medical Laboratory Science, Radiography, Physiotherapy, Nutrition and Dietetics, Public Health, Human Anatomy, Computer Science and Quantity Surveying.
  • Closing date: none was published in the reports.

If you scored 150 or more in 2026 and missed out on a more competitive Allied Health course, this was the only programme from the Faculty of Allied Health Sciences still taking applications in late October. Your course on CAPS has to match the course SUMAS offers you, so expect a change of course on JAMB if you are offered Health Administration.

Supplementary admission

No closing date was reported for the October 2026 SUMAS supplementary admission. If you plan to apply for Health Administration, contact the SUMAS admissions office (08067390088 or admissionofficer@sumas.edu.ng) now, before the lists close.

Is Health Administration at SUMAS accredited?

Not yet. The NUC accredited 15 SUMAS programmes after its exercise of 28 October to 3 December 2025, and SUMAS described those as all the programmes due at the time. Health Care Administration and Hospital Management was not among them. SUMAS said its remaining programmes are due for accreditation in 2026 and are waiting for the NUC to schedule the visit.

New programmes are usually accredited once they have run long enough to be judged as a whole, so “not yet accredited” here means the visit has not happened. It does not mean the programme failed. At clearance, ask the department when the NUC visit is planned.

UTME subjects and O’Level requirements

SUMAS follows the JAMB brochure for subjects, and JAMB’s wording for health administration courses varies between entries. The brochure entry for Healthcare Administration and Hospital Management, as reproduced by Myschool, is below. This is the entry I would check first on the JAMB e-brochure, because some other health management entries accept commercial subjects that SUMAS’s own O’Level rule would not.

RequirementHealth Care Administration and Hospital Management
UTME subjectsUse of English, Biology, Chemistry, Physics
O’Level (JAMB brochure)Five credits in English Language, Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry and Physics
O’Level (SUMAS rule)Five credits including English Language, Mathematics and Physics, plus two other relevant subjects
SittingsMaximum of two
Direct Entry (SUMAS rule)At least second class lower or its equivalent in OND, HND or a first degree, cleared on JAMB e-Facility
Direct Entry (JAMB brochure)Two A Level passes from Biology, Chemistry and Physics

Many candidates assume a management course needs Economics or Commerce. At SUMAS, every applicant needs an O’Level credit in Physics, and this JAMB entry asks for the three sciences in the UTME. If your UTME subjects included Economics instead of Physics, your combination may not qualify for this course at SUMAS; call the admissions office before you rely on it.

SUMAS’s Direct Entry rule names OND, HND and first degree holders. Holders of an ND or HND in health information management, public administration or a related field should ask which level SUMAS will place them in, and A Level holders should confirm their route, since the notice does not mention A Levels.

Our JAMB Biology syllabus and JAMB Chemistry syllabus guides cover two of the UTME science papers.

How SUMAS screening works for this course

SUMAS called its 2026/2027 Post-UTME a screening exercise, and published no written test or test date. It has not said how it weighs UTME scores against O’Level grades. A later notice told some admitted candidates who skipped the Post-UTME to register on SAMP, pay the screening fee and report to the ICT Unit for verification, which suggests screening based on records. SUMAS has not confirmed the method.

Here is the 50/50 aggregate used by many Nigerian universities, as an illustration. SUMAS has not published its formula, so use this only to understand how your scores might combine.

  1. UTME: your UTME score ÷ 8, maximum 50.
  2. O’Level: points for five relevant grades (A1 = 10, B2 = 9, B3 = 8, C4 = 7, C5 = 6, C6 = 5), maximum 50.
  3. Aggregate: the sum, out of 100.

Ngozi scored 184 in the UTME. Her WAEC result shows B2 in English Language, B3 in Biology, C4 in Mathematics, C5 in Chemistry and C5 in Physics.

PartWorkingPoints
UTME184 ÷ 823
O’Level9 + 8 + 7 + 6 + 636
Total23 + 3659 out of 100

Under this kind of method, each grade step is worth one point, which equals eight UTME marks. Raising her two C5s to B3 would add four points, the same as 32 more UTME marks.

How competitive is Health Administration at SUMAS?

It is the least competitive of the SUMAS Allied Health courses this session, judging by the evidence. It was the only Faculty of Allied Health Sciences programme reopened on the October 2026 supplementary list, which means it still had places after the main batches. That is a real opening for candidates with modest scores who still want a health-related degree at SUMAS.

SUMAS has not published a quota, catchment states or ELDS states. The 45% merit, 35% catchment and 20% ELDS split is a guideline for federal universities; SUMAS is a state university and has not said it applies it.

My advice (not an official figure): a UTME score of 180 or above with clean credits in English, Mathematics and the three sciences puts you in a comfortable position for Health Administration at SUMAS. During the 2026/2027 supplementary exercise, candidates closer to 150 also had a chance, because SUMAS was trying to fill remaining places.

How to get admission into SUMAS Health Administration

  1. Get your JAMB profile code: text NIN, a space and your 11-digit NIN to 55019 or 66019 from the line linked to your NIN, then use the code to register for the UTME.
  2. Make SUMAS your first choice: pick State University of Medical and Applied Sciences, Igbo-Eno, and Health Care Administration and Hospital Management. If you chose another school, a JAMB change of institution is required, since SUMAS screens first-choice candidates only. For the supplementary exercise, this also applies to candidates switching to SUMAS now.
  3. Upload your O’Level to CAPS: SUMAS needs your results on JAMB CAPS. The 2026 deadline for this was 15 August.
  4. Register on the SUMAS portal: apply at sumas.edu.ng/apply or samp.sumas.edu.ng, pay ₦2,000 with your JAMB number as the narration, and enter the same JAMB number, date of birth, state of origin and course as on CAPS. One application per candidate.
  5. Check your admission: watch the SUMAS lists, then log in to JAMB e-Facility, open Check Admission Status and Access my CAPS, and confirm on SAMP.
  6. Accept the offer: accept on CAPS, print the JAMB admission letter, and if SUMAS has moved you to Health Administration from another course, change your course on JAMB within three days, as the 2026/2027 notice required.
  7. Pay the acceptance fee: log in at eportal.sumas.edu.ng as NEW STUDENT with your JAMB number and SAMP password, generate the ₦50,000 acceptance fee and pay through the SUMAS Revenue Portal only.

For the full rules, see our SUMAS Post-UTME form 2026/2027 guide and our SUMAS admission list guide, which explains clearance step by step. Our JAMB CAPS guide explains every CAPS status.

What you study in Health Care Administration and Hospital Management

This degree trains you to run health services: hospitals, clinics, health programmes and the systems behind them. Expect introductory sciences and basic medical courses early on, then health economics, health policy and law, hospital and clinic management, health information and records management, human resource and financial management in health, quality of care, epidemiology and biostatistics, with industrial attachments in hospitals and health agencies.

SUMAS has not published the duration of this programme. Similar degrees in Nigeria usually run for four or five years, so confirm with the department. You will study at the Igbo-Eno campus in Udenu Local Government Area, Enugu State, beside the SUMAS Teaching Hospital, which gives you a working hospital to learn from. The Enugu State Government reported in January 2026 that the hospital’s outpatient department, a 100-bed Mother and Child Hospital and a 120-bed Medical Centre were complete.

The only SUMAS fee schedule online is for 2022/2023, which charged Pharmacy and Allied Health students ₦301,400. No 2026/2027 schedule is out yet. Budget for the ₦50,000 acceptance fee too.

Career paths in health administration

Graduates work as hospital and clinic administrators, health records and information officers, practice managers, health insurance officers, and programme or project officers for government health agencies, NGOs and development partners. Others move into health policy, quality assurance, procurement and supply chain in health, or a master’s in health management or public health.

Common mistakes Health Administration applicants make

  • Wrong UTME subjects: Economics or Government in place of Physics may not meet the JAMB entry SUMAS uses.
  • No Physics credit: SUMAS requires it for every course.
  • Waiting too long on the supplementary list: no closing date was published, so act early.
  • Not matching the course on CAPS: an offer in Health Administration needs your CAPS course to match.
  • Paying an agent: all SUMAS fees go through the official portals.

SUMAS Health Administration cut off mark: frequently asked questions

Is 160 enough for Health Administration in SUMAS? A 160 clears the 150 minimum, so you can be considered, and Health Administration was still filling places on the October 2026 supplementary list. Admission is not guaranteed, because SUMAS has no published departmental cut off.

Can I study Health Administration at SUMAS without Physics? No. SUMAS requires an O’Level credit in Physics for all programmes, and the JAMB brochure entry for this course lists Physics among the UTME subjects.

Is SUMAS supplementary admission still open for Health Administration? It was open when Myschool and FreshNote reported it on 17 October 2026, and no closing date was given. Contact the SUMAS admissions office to confirm before you apply.
