ESUT Cut-Off Mark for Agricultural and Bioresources Engineering 2027/2028: Requirements and Admission Guide

ESUT needs 160 in the UTME to screen for Agricultural and Bioresources Engineering in 2027/2028, not 180. See the JAMB subjects, O’level rules, screening terms, a worked example and a safe target score.

The ESUT cut off mark for Agricultural and Bioresources Engineering for 2026/2027 is 160 in the 2026 UTME. Enugu State University of Science and Technology’s official Post-UTME advert of 4 July 2026 named only Civil and Electrical/Electronic Engineering (180) and Software Engineering (200) among its engineering courses. It did not name Agriculture and Bioresources Engineering, so the advert’s general 160 line for “other courses” applies.

2027/2028 update: ESUT cut-off marks usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the figures on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They come from the latest official notice (2026/2027). If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.

That makes it one of the easiest engineering courses at ESUT to qualify for screening, but 160 is still only the floor. ESUT does not publish the score that finally gets admitted. This guide gives the official figures and last year’s reported figure, a safe target score (my advice), the JAMB subject combination and O’level rules, the screening terms, a worked example, the CAPS steps, and what agricultural engineers actually do.

Agricultural and Bioresources Engineering cut-off history at ESUT

SessionFigureWhat it isStatus
2026/2027160Minimum UTME to apply (“other courses” line)Official ESUT advert
2025/2026180Minimum UTME to apply (“Engineering” listed at 180)Previous year, from a blog summary of ESUT’s notice

The 2025/2026 row needs care. DTW Tutorials summarised ESUT’s notice for that year and wrote “Engineering” in the 180 group, without naming departments. That may have been a shorthand for the named engineering courses only. I did not see ESUT’s original notice, so I can’t say whether Agricultural and Bioresources Engineering really needed 180 last year. What is certain is the 2026/2027 advert: the course is not named, so 160 applies.

If your score is between 160 and 179, that difference matters. Don’t assume every ESUT engineering course needs 180; for 2026/2027 only Civil and Electrical/Electronic do, and Software Engineering needs 200.

Safe target score for Agricultural and Bioresources Engineering (my advice)

This section is my advice, not ESUT’s rule. Agricultural engineering draws fewer applicants than Civil, Electrical or Mechanical, and ESUT kept it at the general minimum. Competition is lighter, but you are still ranked against other eligible candidates.

Your 2026 UTME scoreMy read for ESUT Agric and Bioresources Engineering
160 to 179Eligible for screening; a real chance if your O’level science grades are strong.
180 to 199A good chance.
200 and aboveComfortable.

For a 2027 attempt, I would aim for 200 or more. That score also keeps a switch to another engineering course possible if ESUT offers a change of course.

Catchment and state of origin

ESUT does not publish a catchment list. It is an Enugu State Government university, so Enugu indigenes are its primary catchment, though it admits candidates from all states. ESUT has not said it uses the federal 45/35/20 merit, catchment and ELDS split.

JAMB subject combination and O’level requirements

RequirementAgricultural and Bioresources Engineering
UTME subjectsUse of English, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry
O’levelFive credits: English Language, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, plus one from Agricultural Science and technical subjects such as Technical Drawing or Building/Engineering Drawing
SittingsNot stated in ESUT’s advert; most universities allow up to two. Confirm on JAMB’s e-brochure
Direct EntryA’level passes or equivalent in Physics and Mathematics (JAMB general entry). ESUT has not published its own DE grades
Special requirementsNone published by ESUT

These are the general requirements in the JAMB brochure entry for Agricultural and Bio-Resources Engineering (Myschool reprint, checked 29 October 2026). The entry has remarks for UNN, FUTMINNA and MOUAU but none for ESUT, so the general rule applies unless JAMB’s current e-brochure shows an ESUT remark. Agricultural Science is the easiest fifth credit for most candidates; Technical Drawing works too.

Biology is not in the UTME combination for this course. If you wrote Biology instead of Mathematics or Physics, you will not meet the requirement, however high your score.

How ESUT screening works for this course

ESUT ran its 2026/2027 screening on these terms.

Admission statusPublished on the ESUT portal and JAMB CAPS

ESUT has not published an aggregate formula. The 2026/2027 advert sets a minimum UTME score per course and an online screening with no test, and it says nothing about weights or O’level grade points. So the only arithmetic you can do with official figures is to check how far you are above your course’s minimum. Some blogs quote a Post-UTME percentage for ESUT; that cannot be right for 2026/2027, because there was no Post-UTME test to score.

Worked example for an agricultural engineering candidate

Take Ifeanyi, who scored 193 in the 2026 UTME and has A1, B3, B2, C4 and B3 in Mathematics, English, Physics, Chemistry and Agricultural Science.

  1. Eligibility check (official): 193 minus the 160 minimum = 33 marks above the line.
  2. UTME half (illustrative method): 193 ÷ 8 = 24.13 out of 50.
  3. O’level half (illustrative method): 10 + 8 + 9 + 7 + 8 = 42 out of 50.
  4. Illustrative total: 24.13 + 42 = 66.13 out of 100.

Nneka scored 210 but has C5, C4, C6, C5 and C4. Her illustrative total is 26.25 + 31 = 57.25, behind Ifeanyi. If ESUT ranks by UTME score alone, Nneka is ahead. ESUT hasn’t said which it does, so don’t let either side slip.

To see why your O’level grades can still matter, here is a method some other Nigerian universities use: half the aggregate from the UTME (your score divided by 8, out of 50) and half from five O’level subjects (A1 = 10, B2 = 9, B3 = 8, C4 = 7, C5 = 6, C6 = 5, out of 50). ESUT has not published this or any other formula. I use it only to compare two candidates, never to predict an ESUT cut-off.

How to apply for Agricultural and Bioresources Engineering at ESUT

  1. Get your JAMB profile code: text NIN, a space and your 11-digit NIN (for example NIN 12345678901) to 55019 or 66019 from the phone number linked to your NIN. JAMB replies with the profile code you need to buy the UTME form.
  2. Register the UTME with the right subjects: pick Use of English, Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry and choose ESUT and Agricultural and Bioresources Engineering. ESUT’s 2026 advert also let candidates who chose another school apply after a JAMB change of institution, but choosing ESUT from the start saves you that step and its cost.
  3. Upload your O’level to CAPS: once your WAEC, NECO or NABTEB result is out, have it uploaded to your JAMB profile at an accredited CBT centre or JAMB office. ESUT’s advert makes this compulsory for every candidate, and a result that is missing on CAPS can hold your admission back even after ESUT picks you.
  4. Open the ESUT screening form: go to portal.esut.edu.ng, select the session, and under Regular Students open the Admission Screening Registration for that session (Direct Entry has its own form). Enter your JAMB registration number and fill the details form to generate an invoice.
  5. Pay ₦2,000: pay at a commercial bank through Enugu State IGR Pay Direct with the printed invoice and its reference number, or pay online with a debit card.
  6. Finish and print: return to the portal, re-enter your JAMB registration number, complete the form, confirm and submit, then print the acknowledgement slip. ESUT warns that false information leads to disqualification.
  7. Check and accept on CAPS: log in at efacility.jamb.gov.ng, choose Check Admission Status, then Access my CAPS and Admission Status. If ESUT has offered you Agricultural and Bioresources Engineering, accept it, then print your JAMB admission letter.
  8. Pay the acceptance fee on the ESUT portal: blogs report ESUT’s acceptance fee at about ₦26,000 (₦26,100 in some reports). ESUT’s 2026/2027 notices I checked do not state it, so confirm the amount on the portal before you pay, and keep the receipt for clearance.

Warning

Paying ESUT’s acceptance fee does not accept your JAMB offer. Accept the admission on JAMB CAPS first, because an offer left unaccepted on CAPS can be withdrawn, and ESUT cannot register you without it.

Myschool reported that ESUT’s 2026/2027 admission list went up on JAMB CAPS on 13 October 2026. JAMB allows four weeks to accept an offer and told public universities to close admissions by 31 October 2026. Myschool also reported ESUT change of course and transfer forms for 2026/2027 on 28 October 2026; I have not seen their terms, so check the ESUT portal if CAPS shows a course you did not choose.

If a CAPS status confuses you, our JAMB CAPS guide explains each one. Candidates who chose another school can read the JAMB change of institution guide, and if you plan to sit the UTME again, start with when JAMB 2027 registration starts.

Studying Agricultural and Bioresources Engineering at ESUT

The course is one of ten programmes in ESUT’s Faculty of Engineering in the 2026/2027 advert. ESUT’s main campus is at Agbani; I did not confirm on an ESUT page where the department’s workshops are. A B.Eng. in Nigeria normally takes five years for UTME entrants, with Direct Entry students usually starting in 200 level.

It applies mechanical, civil and electrical engineering to farming and food:

  • Engineering foundations (100 to 200 level): mathematics, physics, engineering drawing, workshop practice and mechanics, shared with other engineering students.
  • Farm power and machinery: tractors, implements and their design and maintenance.
  • Soil and water engineering: irrigation, drainage, erosion control and water resources.
  • Crop processing and storage: drying, milling, storage structures and food process engineering.
  • Farm structures and environmental control: barns, poultry houses and greenhouses.
  • Bioresources and energy: biogas, biomass and waste-to-energy systems.
  • SIWES industrial training and a final-year design project.

The Enugu State Government reported in May 2025 that ESUT secured full NUC accreditation for programmes in its Faculty of Engineering, among others, after the late 2024 exercise. The report names faculties, not single programmes, so it does not tell you the grade Agricultural and Bioresources Engineering itself received. Engineering degrees also need the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN), and I did not find a COREN result for Agricultural and Bioresources Engineering at ESUT. Ask the department for its current NUC and COREN status before you pay acceptance.

Career paths

  • Engineer with agro-processing, food and beverage companies.
  • Irrigation and water resources work with river basin authorities and state agencies.
  • Farm machinery sales, service and fabrication businesses.
  • Agricultural development programmes run by government and international agencies.
  • Renewable energy and waste management projects.
  • COREN registration as an engineer after graduation and experience, then consulting.

The Nigerian Institution of Agricultural Engineers is the professional body most graduates join alongside COREN registration.

Mistakes applicants make

  • Treating 160 as the admission score: it only makes you eligible.
  • Writing Biology instead of Mathematics or Physics: the course needs English, Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry.
  • Assuming all ESUT engineering needs 180: for 2026/2027 that applies only to Civil and Electrical/Electronic.
  • No fifth relevant credit: the brochure wants Agricultural Science or a technical subject alongside the core four.
  • Skipping the CAPS upload: ESUT’s advert makes it compulsory.

ESUT cut off mark for Agricultural and Bioresources Engineering: frequently asked questions

Is 170 enough for Agricultural Engineering in ESUT? 170 clears ESUT’s 160 minimum for 2026/2027, so you were eligible for screening. ESUT does not publish the final score; with strong O’level grades you have a chance, but I would aim for 200.

Is the ESUT cut-off mark for all engineering courses 180? No. ESUT’s 2026/2027 advert set 180 for Civil and Electrical/Electronic Engineering and 200 for Software Engineering. Engineering courses it did not name, including Agriculture and Bioresources Engineering, fall under the general 160 line.

Can I use Biology for Agricultural and Bioresources Engineering? Not in the UTME. JAMB’s general entry is English, Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry. Agricultural Science counts as an extra O’level credit, but Biology is not part of the UTME combination.

Does ESUT write post-UTME for engineering? No. ESUT’s 2026/2027 screening was online only, with no test and no physical screening, for a ₦2,000 fee.

Sources and updates

The 2026/2027 minimum UTME scores per course, the screening rules (eligibility, change of institution, Direct Entry clearance, awaiting results up to 30 September 2026, compulsory O’level upload on CAPS, no test, ₦2,000 fee, 7 July to 15 August 2026 window, portal and payment steps) come from ESUT’s notice Post-UTME Screening for UTME/Direct Entry Candidates for 2026/2027 Admission, posted on 4 July 2026, and the full advert PDF signed by the Registrar, Ambrose G. Ugwu. The 2025/2026 per-course minimums are from DTW Tutorials’ summary of ESUT’s 2025/2026 screening notice (30 July 2025); I did not open the original notice. The national minimum of 150, the 31 October 2026 admission deadline and the four-week CAPS acceptance window come from the News Agency of Nigeria, 11 May 2026. The release of the 2026/2027 admission list on CAPS on 13 October 2026 is from a Myschool report. ESUT’s faculty-level NUC accreditation is from the Enugu State Government, 21 May 2025. The UTME, O’level and Direct Entry requirements are the general JAMB brochure entry for Agricultural and Bio-Resources Engineering as reprinted by Myschool; it carries no ESUT remark. The 180 figure for 2025/2026 is the reprint’s “Engineering” line and may not have applied to this department. The acceptance fee of about ₦26,000 is from education blogs (Legit.ng, O3schools, Backtoschool) and is unofficial. ESUT has not published an aggregate formula, a catchment list or a post-screening departmental cut-off, so none appears here as fact. This page was checked on 29 October 2026 and will be updated if ESUT releases new figures.
