SUMAS Cut-Off Mark for Information and Communication Technology (ICT) 2027/2028: Entry Guide

The SUMAS cut off mark for ICT in 2027/2028 is 150, and the fully accredited course was on the October 2026 supplementary list. Compare ICT with Computer Science and see subjects and admission steps.

The SUMAS cut off mark for ICT (Information and Communication Technology) in 2026/2027 is 150 in the UTME. That is the general minimum the State University of Medical and Applied Sciences (SUMAS), Igbo-Eno, Enugu State, set for all programmes in its 2026/2027 Post-UTME notice, and it was the same in 2025/2026. ICT was also on the SUMAS supplementary admission list in October 2026, open to candidates with 150 or more in the 2026 UTME.

2027/2028 update: SUMAS cut-off marks usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the figures on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They come from the latest official notice (2026/2027). If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.

SUMAS has not published a departmental cut off for ICT in any session, nor an aggregate formula, merit scores, catchment states or ELDS states. ICT is fully accredited: it is one of the 15 SUMAS programmes the NUC accredited after its 2025 exercise. This entry guide covers the official figures, how ICT differs from Computer Science at SUMAS, the subjects you need, a worked screening example, my safe-score advice and the steps to admission.

The general cut off decides who can be screened. A departmental cut off is the lowest score that gets admitted into a course after screening, and SUMAS has never published one for ICT. Treat any precise ICT figure above 150 on other sites with suspicion. The minimum is reviewed after JAMB’s policy meeting each year, so check the 2027/2028 SUMAS notice. A private directory lists 160 for SUMAS and calls it a federal university; both are wrong.

ICT on the 2027/2028 SUMAS supplementary list

On 17 October 2026, Myschool and FreshNote reported a SUMAS supplementary admission exercise for programmes that still had places, and ICT was on it. I could not find the notice on the SUMAS website itself, so read these details as reported.

  • Who could apply: candidates with 150 or more in the 2026 UTME who chose SUMAS first but missed admission into their course, and candidates willing to change their first choice to SUMAS.
  • Other programmes on the list: Architecture; Biomedical, Chemical, Civil, Computer, Electrical and Electronics, and Mechanical Engineering; Health Administration and Hospital Management; Prosthetics and Orthotics; Dental Therapy; Dental Technology; Applied Microbiology; Biochemistry; Genetics and Biotechnology; Industrial Chemistry; Pure and Industrial Physics; Pharmacology; Human Physiology.
  • Not on the list: Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy, Medical Laboratory Science, Radiography, Physiotherapy, Nutrition and Dietetics, Public Health, Human Anatomy, Computer Science and Quantity Surveying.
  • Closing date: none was reported.

That last point matters for anyone who wanted Computer Science. ICT was the accredited computing degree still open in late October, so if you missed Computer Science, it was the nearest option at SUMAS.

Supplementary admission

No closing date was reported for the October 2026 SUMAS supplementary admission. If you want ICT this session, contact the SUMAS admissions office (08067390088 or admissionofficer@sumas.edu.ng) now, before the lists close.

ICT or Computer Science at SUMAS: what is the difference?

Both degrees sit in the Faculty of Natural and Applied Sciences, both are fully accredited by the NUC, and JAMB’s usual entries for them ask for the same subjects. The main differences are in emphasis and in how hard they were to get into this year.

PointInformation and Communication TechnologyComputer Science
FocusApplying computing and networks: systems, communication, information managementThe science of computing: algorithms, programming, theory
NUC statusFull accreditation (2025 exercise)Full accreditation (2025 exercise)

UTME subjects (JAMB’s usual entry)English, Mathematics, Physics and one other listed subjectEnglish, Mathematics, Physics and one other listed subject
Suggested safe score (my advice)180 or above200 or above

If you enjoy building and running systems, networks and digital services, ICT suits you. If you want deep programming and theory, Computer Science is the closer fit. The job markets overlap a lot, and many graduates of both end up in software, data and network roles. See our SUMAS Computer Science cut off mark guide for that course.

UTME subjects and O’Level requirements for ICT

SUMAS follows the JAMB brochure. The table shows JAMB’s usual entry for Information and Communication Technology under the Sciences, as reproduced by Myschool, beside the SUMAS rule. Confirm the SUMAS line on the JAMB e-brochure before you register, because JAMB also lists ICT entries under Engineering with different wording.

RequirementInformation and Communication Technology
UTME subjectsUse of English, Mathematics, Physics, and one of Biology, Chemistry, Agricultural Science, Economics or Geography
O’Level (JAMB brochure)Five credits including English Language, Mathematics and Physics, plus two other science subjects
O’Level (SUMAS rule)Five credits including English Language, Mathematics and Physics, plus two other relevant subjects
SittingsMaximum of two
Direct Entry (SUMAS rule)At least second class lower or its equivalent in OND, HND or a first degree, cleared on JAMB e-Facility
Direct Entry (JAMB brochure)Two A Level passes in science subjects including Mathematics; or NCE merit in Mathematics and one other science or social science subject

My suggestion is Chemistry as the fourth UTME subject and English, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology at O’Level. That combination meets every version of the requirement. The SUMAS Direct Entry rule names OND, HND and first degree holders and does not mention A Levels or NCE, so confirm your route with SUMAS before you apply through Direct Entry.

Our JAMB Chemistry syllabus guide covers one of the four UTME papers.

How SUMAS screening works for ICT

SUMAS called its 2026/2027 Post-UTME a screening exercise and did not publish a written test or date. It has not said how it weighs UTME scores against O’Level grades. A later notice told some admitted candidates who skipped Post-UTME to register on SAMP, pay the screening fee and report to the ICT Unit for verification, which points to screening on records. SUMAS has not confirmed the method.

Here is the 50/50 aggregate used by many Nigerian universities, to show how the parts could add up. SUMAS has not published its formula; treat this only as an illustration.

  1. UTME part: UTME score ÷ 8, maximum 50 points.
  2. O’Level part: five relevant grades scored A1 = 10, B2 = 9, B3 = 8, C4 = 7, C5 = 6, C6 = 5, maximum 50 points.
  3. Aggregate: the sum, out of 100.

Chiamaka scored 178 in the UTME. Her WAEC result has B3 in English Language, B2 in Mathematics, C4 in Physics, C5 in Chemistry and B3 in Biology.

PartWorkingPoints
UTME178 ÷ 822.25
O’Level8 + 9 + 7 + 6 + 838
Total22.25 + 3860.25 out of 100

Each O’Level grade step is worth eight UTME marks under this kind of method. Chiamaka’s C4 in Physics and C5 in Chemistry cost her points that a few extra weeks of preparation might have saved.

How competitive is ICT at SUMAS?

Moderately. ICT was reopened on the October 2026 supplementary list, which means SUMAS still had places after its main screening. Computer Science was not reopened, so ICT is the easier of the two computing degrees to enter this session.

SUMAS has not published a quota, catchment states or ELDS states. The 45% merit, 35% catchment and 20% ELDS split quoted online is a federal university guideline, and SUMAS, as a state university, has not said it applies it.

My advice (not an official figure): a UTME score of 180 or above, with credits in English, Mathematics, Physics and two sciences at no more than two sittings, gives you a comfortable chance for ICT at SUMAS. Candidates closer to 150 could still be considered during the 2026/2027 supplementary exercise.

How to get admission into SUMAS ICT

  1. Get your JAMB profile code: text NIN, a space and your 11-digit NIN to 55019 or 66019 from the line linked to your NIN, then use the code to register for the UTME.
  2. Make SUMAS your first choice: choose State University of Medical and Applied Sciences, Igbo-Eno, and Information and Communication Technology. SUMAS screens first-choice candidates only. If you chose another school, do a JAMB change of institution; this also applies if you are switching to SUMAS for the supplementary exercise.
  3. Upload your O’Level on CAPS: SUMAS screens using results on JAMB CAPS. The 2026 deadline was 15 August.
  4. Meet the age rule: at least 16 years old by 30 September 2026.
  5. Register on the SUMAS portal: apply at sumas.edu.ng/apply or on samp.sumas.edu.ng, pay ₦2,000 with your JAMB registration number as the narration, and enter the same JAMB number, date of birth, state of origin and course as on CAPS. Only one application is allowed.
  6. Check your admission: watch the SUMAS batch lists, then log in to JAMB e-Facility, use Check Admission Status and Access my CAPS, and confirm on SAMP.
  7. Accept, and change course if needed: accept the offer on CAPS and print your JAMB admission letter. If you applied for Computer Science and SUMAS offers you ICT, change your course on JAMB within three days, as the 2026/2027 notice required.
  8. Pay the acceptance fee: log in at eportal.sumas.edu.ng as NEW STUDENT with your JAMB number and SAMP password, generate the ₦50,000 acceptance fee and pay only through the SUMAS Revenue Portal.

The screening rules are in our SUMAS Post-UTME form 2026/2027 guide, and our SUMAS instructions to successful candidates post explains clearance. For CAPS statuses, see our JAMB CAPS guide.

What you study in ICT at SUMAS

ICT degrees cover how information is created, stored, moved and protected with computers and networks. The first year includes mathematics, physics, introductory programming and general studies. Later courses typically cover computer networks and data communication, database systems, web and mobile application development, systems analysis and design, information security, cloud and distributed systems, telecommunications basics, IT project management and information systems in organisations, with a final-year project. An industrial attachment (SIWES) is usual before the final year.

SUMAS has not published the duration. B.Sc. ICT programmes in Nigeria usually take four years for UTME entrants, so plan for that and confirm with the department. Lectures hold at the Igbo-Eno campus, Udenu Local Government Area, Enugu State. Health information systems are an obvious area to explore at a university built around medical sciences.

The only SUMAS fee schedule online is for 2022/2023, which charged Applied and Natural Sciences students ₦251,400. No 2026/2027 schedule has been published, so use it only as a guide and add the ₦50,000 acceptance fee.

Career paths after ICT

ICT graduates work as network administrators, IT support and systems engineers, web and mobile developers, database administrators, cybersecurity analysts, health information system officers and IT project coordinators. Employers include banks, telecoms companies, hospitals, government agencies, schools and tech start-ups. Some go on to a master’s in information systems, cybersecurity or data science.

Common mistakes ICT applicants make

  • No Physics credit: SUMAS requires it for every programme.
  • Economics as a fourth UTME subject without checking: JAMB’s general entry allows it, but SUMAS has not published its exceptions.
  • A third sitting: SUMAS accepts no more than two.
  • Not changing course on JAMB: if you are offered ICT after applying for another course, you had three days to change it in 2026/2027.
  • Paying agents: use only the SUMAS portals.

SUMAS cut off mark for ICT: frequently asked questions
