SUMAS Human Physiology Cut-Off Mark 2027/2028: Admission Requirements and Aggregate Breakdown

Human Physiology at SUMAS needs 150 in the UTME to apply for 2027/2028, and it is on the October 2026 supplementary list. See the subjects, O’level rules, an aggregate example, a safe target score and careers.

To apply for Human Physiology at SUMAS in 2026/2027 you needed at least 150 in the UTME. That is the general cut off the State University of Medical and Applied Sciences (SUMAS), Igbo-Eno, set for all programmes in its 2026/2027 Post-UTME and Direct Entry notice, unchanged from 2025/2026. You also needed SUMAS as your first choice and five O’level credits, including English, Mathematics and Physics, in no more than two sittings.

2027/2028 update: SUMAS cut-off marks usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the figures on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They come from the latest official notice (2026/2027). If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.

SUMAS has not published a departmental cut off or an aggregate formula for Human Physiology. What it has published this session is useful, though: Human Physiology was one of the programmes on SUMAS’s supplementary admission list in October 2026, which means it still had places after the main batches. This guide explains the requirements, how an aggregate is usually worked out (with a clear example), what the supplementary round means for you, and what Physiology graduates go on to do.

SUMAS keeps its gate at 150 and has not released the lowest score admitted into Physiology in either session. Its admission lists show masked JAMB numbers by course, with no scores. Treat any website that quotes an “official” Physiology cut off for SUMAS with suspicion.

Supplementary admission into Human Physiology

In mid October 2026, SUMAS opened a supplementary admission round, as reported by Myschool on 17 October and by FreshNote. It covers programmes that still had space after the main batches, and Human Physiology is on it, alongside Biochemistry, Genetics and Biotechnology, the Engineering degrees and a few others. Medicine, Nursing and Human Anatomy are not.

The rules reported for the supplementary round:

  • You must have scored 150 or more in the 2026 UTME.
  • Candidates who chose SUMAS first but missed their course can change their course on JAMB to a supplementary programme, such as Human Physiology.
  • Candidates who did not choose SUMAS can make it their first choice through a JAMB change of institution, then pick a supplementary course.
  • If you never applied for SUMAS Post-UTME, apply on samp.sumas.edu.ng. If you already applied, do not apply again.

No closing date has been published. Public universities were told by JAMB to finish 2026 admissions by 31 October, so time is short. Call the SUMAS admission office on 08067390088 before you pay for a course change.

Supplementary window

SUMAS has published no closing date for supplementary admission, and JAMB’s deadline for public universities to finish 2026 admissions is 31 October 2026. If you want Physiology this session, make your JAMB change and contact the admission office now.

UTME subjects and O’level requirements for SUMAS Physiology

JAMB’s usual combination for Physiology is Use of English, Biology, Chemistry and Physics. SUMAS is not named among the schools with special remarks in the JAMB brochure entry as reproduced online, so check the e-brochure on your JAMB profile to be sure.

RequirementHuman Physiology at SUMAS
UTME subjectsUse of English, Biology, Chemistry, Physics
O’levelFive credits: English Language, Mathematics, Physics and two relevant subjects (Biology and Chemistry)
SittingsNot more than two
UTME score150 or above in the 2026 UTME
AgeAt least 16 by 30 September 2026
ChoiceSUMAS as first choice on JAMB CAPS
Direct EntryAt least second class lower, or the equivalent in OND or HND, in a related field

The JAMB brochure’s general Direct Entry rule for Physiology is two A level passes from Chemistry, Physics and Biology or Zoology. SUMAS adds its own floor of a second class lower or equivalent, and your awarding institution must clear you on JAMB e-Facility.

How the SUMAS aggregate works for Physiology

SUMAS has not published an aggregate formula, and it held no published written test for 2026/2027. The screening notice describes an online application where you submit your UTME and O’level details, and its later instructions ask late candidates to register on SAMP and be verified at the ICT Unit. That points to ranking on records rather than an exam. SUMAS has not confirmed how.

What SUMAS checks before anything else:

  • UTME of 150 or more, with the right subjects
  • SUMAS as first choice
  • Five O’level credits uploaded on JAMB CAPS (the 2026 deadline was 15 August)
  • Matching JAMB number, date of birth, state of origin and course across JAMB and the SUMAS portal

Aggregate breakdown: an example

The method below is used by many Nigerian universities and is shown for illustration only, since SUMAS has not said what it uses.

  • UTME score divided by 8, for a maximum of 50 points
  • O’level grades in five relevant subjects: A1 = 10, B2 = 9, B3 = 8, C4 = 7, C5 = 6, C6 = 5, for a maximum of 50 points
  • Total out of 100

Ifeanyi scored 196 in the UTME. His grades are B3 in English, C4 in Mathematics, B2 in Biology, B3 in Chemistry and C6 in Physics, over two sittings.

PartWorkingPoints
UTME196 ÷ 824.5
O’level8 + 7 + 9 + 8 + 537
Aggregate24.5 + 3761.5 out of 100

Under this method, each 8 UTME marks are worth one point, and each grade step in O’level is also worth one point. Lifting his C6 in Physics to a B3 would add 3 points, the same as scoring 24 more in the UTME. That is why I tell candidates who are still resitting WAEC or NECO to take the science papers seriously.

What score should you aim for?

My advice, not a SUMAS figure: for Human Physiology, 200 or more is a comfortable target, and 180 to 200 is a fair chance with solid O’level grades. Physiology still had space in the supplementary round this year, so it appears less crowded than Human Anatomy, which filled in the main batches. That can change from year to year. SUMAS has published no catchment or ELDS list.

Studying Human Physiology at SUMAS

Physiology is the study of how the body works: how organs and systems function, how they are controlled and what happens when they fail. At SUMAS, the B.Sc. is in the Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences, on the Igbo-Eno campus in Udenu Local Government Area, Enugu State. The programme usually runs for 4 years in Nigeria. SUMAS has not put its own course outline online, so the topics below reflect what NUC Physiology programmes normally cover.

  • Cell physiology, blood and body fluids
  • Cardiovascular and respiratory physiology
  • Renal, gastrointestinal and endocrine physiology
  • Neurophysiology and the special senses
  • Reproductive and exercise physiology
  • Laboratory practicals, research methods and a final year project

Human Physiology is one of the 15 SUMAS programmes granted full NUC accreditation after the exercise from 28 October to 3 December 2025. The 2022/2023 fee schedule, the only one SUMAS has published, puts Basic Medical Sciences at ₦251,400. The figure on your portal invoice is the one you pay.

Careers after a Physiology degree

  • Teaching and research: an M.Sc. and Ph.D. lead to lecturing in medical, nursing and allied health schools.
  • Clinical and exercise physiology: work in sports science, fitness and rehabilitation settings, often after further training.
  • Pharmaceutical and research industry: drug research, clinical trials and medical sales.
  • Further study: pharmacology, neuroscience or public health at master’s level.
  • Graduate entry to Medicine: SUMAS’s Direct Entry route for Medicine asks for at least a 2:1 in a related degree, which a Physiology B.Sc. may meet.

The closest courses at SUMAS are Human Anatomy, Biochemistry and Medicine and Surgery.

Human Physiology or Human Anatomy at SUMAS?

Many candidates weigh these two against each other, since the entry rules are the same. Here is how they compare on what SUMAS has published.

If your score is modest and you want a basic medical science this session, Physiology gives you a better chance because places remained. If you are drawn to dissection, histology and embryology, Anatomy fits better, but expect stiffer competition. Choose the course you will enjoy studying for four years, since both lead to similar postgraduate routes.

Mistakes to avoid when applying for Physiology

  • Changing course without calling SUMAS. A JAMB course change costs money. Confirm with the admission office that the supplementary round is still open first.
  • Applying twice on the SUMAS portal. SUMAS allows one application. If you already applied for another course, use your existing SAMP account.
  • Leaving the O’level off CAPS. SUMAS said candidates without uploaded results would not be considered.
  • Mismatched details. Your course, state of origin and date of birth must match on JAMB and the SUMAS portal.
  • Paying agents. SUMAS takes payments only through its own Revenue Portal.

SUMAS Human Physiology: frequently asked questions

Is 180 enough for Physiology in SUMAS? It clears the 150 minimum and gives you a fair chance, especially as Physiology still had places in the 2026/2027 supplementary round. SUMAS has published no departmental cut off, so a score of 200 or more is safer.

Can I still get Human Physiology in SUMAS through supplementary admission? Yes, if you scored 150 or more in the 2026 UTME. Change your course (and institution, if needed) on JAMB, and apply on samp.sumas.edu.ng if you never did Post-UTME. No closing date has been published.

Is SUMAS Physiology accredited? Yes. Human Physiology received full NUC accreditation after the exercise held from 28 October to 3 December 2025.

Does SUMAS Physiology accept two sittings? Yes. SUMAS accepts O’level results from not more than two sittings for every programme except Medicine and Surgery.
