The Amadeus University Economics and Development Studies cut-off mark for 2027/2028 is 150, JAMB’s minimum UTME score for universities. Amadeus has not published a departmental cut-off for the course, so 150 is the official floor, with the university’s own faculty checks and holistic review on top.
2027/2028 update: Amadeus University cut-off marks usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the figures on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They come from the latest official notice (2026/2027). If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.
The course name has changed on Amadeus’s own list. When Amadeus started admitting in 2024, it advertised “Economics and Development Studies”, and a JAMB-style directory of Amadeus courses (updated February 2026) still shows that name. The university’s current admission page now lists the programme as B.Sc. Economics in the Faculty of Social and Management Sciences, and its 2025/2026 advert did the same. Both names point to the same economics degree, and JAMB’s requirements for “Economics and Development Studies” and “Economics” are word for word the same.
On the JAMB portal, choose Amadeus University, Amizi and pick the economics course name that appears under Amadeus: the directory suggests it is Economics and Development Studies. I could not open JAMB’s own list for Amadeus to confirm, so call or email Amadeus admissions and ask which name they will match on CAPS before you register. The portal course and the CAPS course must line up.

Cut-off history for Economics at Amadeus
| Session | Figure | What it is | Status |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2026/2027 | 150 | JAMB national minimum UTME score for universities | Official (JAMB policy meeting, 11 May 2026) |
| 2026/2027 | None published | An Amadeus figure for Economics | Not on the list of institution cut-offs declared at the 2026 policy meeting; none on Amadeus’s admission page |
| 2025/2026 | 150 | JAMB national minimum UTME score for universities | Official (JAMB policy meeting, July 2025) |
| 2025/2026 | 200 and 180 | Amadeus minimums for MBBS and Pharm.D, given for comparison | Stated by the Vice-Chancellor (The Sun, 20 November 2025) |
| 2025/2026 | None published | An Amadeus figure for Economics | Nothing found |
Amadeus did not declare its own figures at JAMB’s 2026 policy meeting. Some blogs give 140 as Amadeus’s general cut-off; no official source backs it and it is below JAMB’s 150, so ignore it.
Safe target score for Economics at Amadeus (my advice)
This is my advice as an admissions consultant, not an Amadeus rule:
| Your UTME score | My read for Economics at Amadeus |
|---|---|
| Below 150 | Not eligible for any Nigerian university this cycle. |
| 150 to 164 | Eligible. Realistic with the right subjects and complete documents. |
| 165 to 179 | A good position at a young private university. |
| 180 and above | Comfortable, and the range I would aim for. |
Economics usually draws fewer applicants than Accounting, and Amadeus is still filling its first classes. I would still aim for at least 170 in the 2027 UTME, and make Mathematics a strong paper, because the degree is heavy on quantitative work.
JAMB subject combination and O’level for Economics at Amadeus
| Requirement | JAMB brochure, Economics and Development Studies (Myschool reprint) | Amadeus admission page |
|---|---|---|
| UTME subjects | Economics, Mathematics and any of Government, History, Geography, Literature in English, French and CRS/IRS (plus Use of English) | National minimum plus any faculty requirement |
| O’level | Five credits in English Language, Mathematics, Economics and any two Arts or Social Science subjects | Five credits including English and Mathematics plus three other relevant subjects (WASSCE, NECO or GCE) |
| Sittings | Not stated on the base line | One or two sittings (university’s 2025/2026 advert) |
| Direct Entry | Two A-level passes in Economics and one of Mathematics, Statistics, Geography, Physics, Chemistry, Agricultural Science, Accounting, Business Management, History and Government | Not described |
| Remark naming Amadeus | None (only FUOYE and IUO remarks) | Not applicable |
JAMB’s plain Economics entry carries exactly the same UTME, O’level and Direct Entry lines, so you do not need a different combination whichever name ends up on your CAPS profile.
For the fourth UTME subject, I would pick Government or Geography. Both are on JAMB’s list and both feed into the degree (public policy, development and regional economics). Two subjects people often try that are not on the list: Commerce and Principles of Accounts. Mathematics and Economics are both compulsory.
At O’level, Economics is a named credit. Fill the other two places with Government, Geography, Commerce, Literature in English or CRS/IRS. Amadeus’s own rule asks for English, Mathematics and three relevant subjects, which those choices also meet.
Direct Entry into Economics at Amadeus
JAMB’s line asks for two A-level passes, one in Economics. IJMB and JUPEB are the common routes. Amadeus’s admission page says nothing about Direct Entry and no brochure remark names Amadeus, so ask admissions@amadeus.edu.ng in writing whether it takes your A-level, ND or HND before you register.
How Amadeus screens Economics applicants
There is no published written post-UTME test. The admission page describes a holistic review: your results come first, then character, extracurricular activity and social involvement, with some room for candidates from underserved communities. A 2024 write-up mentioned interviews and a third-party guide describes an online document review with a ₦2,000 fee, but neither is on the university’s page, so confirm both on the portal.
Worked example (illustrative)
No aggregate formula is published. This example only runs the checks:
- Amarachi: 169 with Use of English, Economics, Mathematics and Government; credits in English, Mathematics, Economics, Government and Literature in English in one WAEC sitting. Before registering, she asked Amadeus which name to pick and chose the economics course listed under Amadeus on JAMB.
- Her checks: 169 clears 150, her subjects match JAMB’s line and her O’level meets both JAMB and Amadeus. On the portal she applies for Economics, which admissions confirmed is the same programme as her CAPS course. She meets every published condition.
- Obinna: 184 with Use of English, Mathematics, Economics and Commerce.
- His checks: his score is higher, but Commerce is not on the fourth-subject list for Economics. He should ask Amadeus whether it will consider him for Accounting or Business Administration, whose lines ask for a Social Science third subject, and confirm in writing how it treats Commerce before he accepts any switch.
Economics or another Amadeus management degree?
| Amadeus programme | Main focus | Tuition (Campusfees, 2026/2027) |
|---|---|---|
| Economics (Economics and Development Studies) | Markets, policy, development and data | ₦1,200,000 |
| Accounting | Financial reporting, audit, tax | ₦900,000 |
| Business Administration | Management, marketing, human resources | ₦800,000 |
| Entrepreneurship | Starting and growing a business | Check the fee page |
Economics is the most mathematical of the four and the best base for policy, research and data work. If you want a professional certificate route straight after school, Accounting fits better.
How to apply for Economics at Amadeus, step by step
- Get your JAMB profile code: send NIN, a space and your 11-digit NIN to 55019 or 66019 from the phone line linked to your NIN.
- Register the UTME with Amadeus and the right course: pick Amadeus University, Amizi as your institution and Economics and Development Studies (or the economics name listed under Amadeus) as the course, with the UTME subjects in the table above. If you already sat the UTME with another school, do a change of institution to Amadeus on JAMB; the university’s own admission page asks every applicant to choose Amadeus through the JAMB portal.
- Upload your O’level to CAPS: go to a JAMB-accredited centre once your WAEC, NECO or GCE result is out. Amadeus asks for five credits including English Language and Mathematics, and accepts results from one or two sittings.
- Apply on the Amadeus portal: create an account at admissions.amadeus.edu.ng, choose Economics, fill the form and upload your documents. The same course must sit on your CAPS profile, or an offer cannot be processed.
- Watch for screening or interview contact: Amadeus has not published a written post-UTME test. Keep your phone and email active, because any interview invitation or request for documents comes through them.
- Accept on CAPS: when an offer appears, log in at efacility.jamb.gov.ng, choose Check Admission Status, then Access my CAPS, and accept. JAMB gave 2026 candidates four weeks to accept or reject an offer.
- Pay acceptance and register: third-party fee guides put the Amadeus acceptance fee at ₦200,000. Pay only through the channel on your admission letter or the portal, then print your JAMB admission letter for clearance.
For the 2026/2027 cycle, JAMB set 30 November 2026 as the admission deadline for private universities, so Amadeus’s 2026/2027 admissions run until that date at the latest. Amadeus’s home page said admissions were open when I checked on 29 October 2026, but it did not give its own closing date. For 2027/2028, plan around the same pattern: sit the 2027 UTME, keep Amadeus on your JAMB profile and apply on the portal once it reopens.
Before you pay anyone
Free-advert forums carry posts claiming Amadeus “admission lists” and “post-UTME forms” with private phone numbers that do not appear on the university’s website. Apply only at admissions.amadeus.edu.ng and use the contacts on amadeus.edu.ng. JAMB has said any admission done outside CAPS is illegal, so a real offer will always show on your CAPS page.
Official contacts on the Amadeus website: phone +234 708 063 1863, toll-free 0800 123 5100, WhatsApp +234 908 796 6353 and admissions@amadeus.edu.ng. When your CAPS status changes, our JAMB CAPS guide explains what each status means and how to accept.
Amadeus University Economics school fees
| Fee item | Amount (per session unless stated) | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Tuition (Economics) | ₦1,200,000 | As reported by Campusfees for 2026/2027 |
| Acceptance fee | ₦200,000 | First year only, non-refundable |
| Medical insurance | ₦85,000 | Yearly |
| Library and ICT | ₦120,000 | Yearly |
| Laboratory and workshops | ₦50,000 | Yearly |
| Accommodation, two-person room | ₦900,000 | Per bed space |
| Accommodation, four-person room | ₦550,000 | Limited spaces |
| First-year total, two-person room | ₦2,555,000 | Tuition plus all items above except the four-person room |
| First-year total, four-person room | ₦2,205,000 | Tuition plus charges plus the cheaper room |
I could not open the fee page on the Amadeus website, so these figures come from Campusfees (17 September 2026), a third-party fee guide. The acceptance fee, medical insurance, library and ICT, laboratory and accommodation lines match the 2024/2025 schedule that Myschool News published in June 2024, which gives me some confidence in them. Treat the tuition line as a guide, check the official Tuition and Fees page on amadeus.edu.ng before you pay, and remember that feeding, books and transport are extra.
Studying Economics at Amadeus University
Amadeus University is a private university at Amizi in Ikwuano Local Government Area of Abia State, not far from Umuahia. NUC licensed it in June 2023, teaching began in September 2024, the inaugural matriculation was held in February 2025, and its founder is Dr Godwin Nwabunka. Its Vice-Chancellor is Prof. Samuel Nzotta. The admission page now lists 22 programmes across the Faculties of Science and Computing, Allied Health Sciences, Social and Management Sciences, Engineering, Pharmacy and Law and a College of Medicine.
What you study
- Early years: principles of microeconomics and macroeconomics, mathematics for economists, introductory statistics and general studies courses.
- Middle years: intermediate micro and macro theory, econometrics, money and banking, public finance and the Nigerian economy.
- Final years: development economics, international trade, project planning and evaluation, electives and a research project.
- Practical skills: data handling in a spreadsheet or statistics package and writing short policy notes.
Development topics (poverty, growth, rural development, project appraisal) carry more weight on a course that began as Economics and Development Studies. Amadeus has not published its course list, so check the handbook when you resume.
Duration and accreditation
UTME entrants normally take four years; Direct Entry students start at 200 level. Amadeus’s admission page does not state the duration.
I found no NUC accreditation result for Economics at Amadeus. The university has no entry at all in NUC’s accreditation results for 1990 to 2025, published in September 2026, and no NUC programme report names Amadeus for this course. That is expected for a university that began teaching in September 2024: NUC normally visits a new programme before its first set graduates. So the status is not yet accredited by NUC (not confirmed). The course runs under the university’s NUC licence, and NUC granted Amadeus a full operational licence in September 2026, according to the university’s news page. A full licence is about the university as a whole and is not the same as programme accreditation.

Mistakes that cost Economics applicants a place
- Registering the wrong course name: confirm with Amadeus which economics name it matches on CAPS.
- Commerce or Accounts as the fourth UTME subject: neither is on the list.
- Leaving out Mathematics or Economics: both are compulsory in the UTME and at O’level.
- Trusting a “140” cut-off: JAMB’s minimum for universities is 150.
- Applying for a different course on the portal: the portal and CAPS must match.
- Paying an agent: forms are on admissions.amadeus.edu.ng.

Is Amadeus University still admitting for 2026/2027? Its home page said admissions were open on 29 October 2026. JAMB set 30 November 2026 as the 2026/2027 deadline for private universities.
Sources and updates
The admission rules, programme list and contacts come from Amadeus University’s admission overview page home page and history page (teaching began September 2024); the full operational licence and law approval news from its news page. JAMB’s Economics and Development Studies requirements were checked on Myschool’s reprint of the JAMB brochure for Economics and Development Studies; no remark there names Amadeus. The 150 minimum for 2026/2027, the 30 November 2026 deadline for private universities, the four-week CAPS acceptance window and the warning about admissions outside CAPS come from the News Agency of Nigeria (11 May 2026); the 2025/2026 minimum of 150 from Channels TV (8 July 2025). The MBBS and Pharm.D minimums come from The Sun (20 November 2025), and the June 2023 licence from ThisDay. Course names in JAMB’s style come from UniversityCourses.ng (updated February 2026), because JAMB’s own Amadeus list could not be opened. Fees come from Campusfees (17 September 2026) and Myschool News (June 2024). Accreditation was checked in NUC’s 1990 to 2025 results publication. The older programme name comes from Studentship (June 2024) and the 2025/2026 list from Examkits (July 2025). Checked on 29 October 2026. I will update this page when Amadeus publishes its 2027/2028 admission notice.
