ABSU Integrated Science Education Cut-Off Mark 2027/2028 and Admission Requirements

ABSU’s minimum for Integrated Science Education is 150 in the UTME. See the JAMB course name, subjects, O’level, NCE Direct Entry routes, the NUC record and screening.

The ABSU Integrated Science Education cut off mark is 150 in the UTME. That was Abia State University’s (ABSU) minimum for all regular degree courses in its 2026/2027 screening notice, for candidates who chose ABSU as first or second choice. ABSU did not publish a separate figure for Integrated Science Education.

2027/2028 update: ABSU cut-off marks usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the figures on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They come from the latest official notice (2026/2027). If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.

JAMB lists the course for ABSU as Education and Integrated Science. It trains teachers of Basic Science for junior secondary school. This page sets out the JAMB brochure’s subject and O’level lines, the Direct Entry routes for NCE holders, a safe target score, screening, and the NUC record, which shows denied as the latest result for this course at ABSU.

ABSU’s 150 applied to every course in 2026/2027, and no separate Integrated Science Education figure exists from ABSU. The practical cut-off is the score of the last admitted candidate, which ABSU does not publish.

Safe target score for Integrated Science Education at ABSU (my advice)

Integrated Science Education usually attracts fewer applicants than the single-subject science courses, and many of its students come in through NCE. The table is my advice, not an ABSU rule.

Your UTME scoreMy read for ABSU Integrated Science Education
Below 150Not eligible for screening
150 to 159Eligible; good O’level grades matter
160 to 174A reasonable chance with clean credits
175 and aboveStrong

I would aim for at least 160, with good credits in Biology and Chemistry, the two sciences the O’level line names.

JAMB subject combination and O’level for Integrated Science Education at ABSU

RequirementWhat the JAMB brochure says
Course name on JAMBEducation and Integrated Science
UTME (general line)Any three of Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics, Biology and Agricultural Science
UTME (ABSU remark)None
O’level (general line)Five SSCE credits including Biology, Chemistry, English Language and Mathematics
O’level (ABSU remark)None
Direct Entry (general line)NCE Integrated Science, NCE Science Education, or A-level passes in two science subjects
Direct Entry (ABSU remark)None, and no “No Direct Entry” remark names ABSU

Any three of the five sciences will do for the UTME, but I would write Use of English, Biology, Chemistry and Physics. Biology and Chemistry match the O’level line, and Physics completes the three sciences that Basic Science teaching draws on. Mathematics in place of Physics also works.

O’level checklist

  • English Language: credit
  • Mathematics: credit
  • Biology: credit
  • Chemistry: credit
  • One more subject for five credits; Physics or Agricultural Science fits best

Direct Entry

This course has the widest Direct Entry door of the science education courses. The brochure accepts an NCE in Integrated Science, an NCE in Science Education, or two A-level passes in science subjects. ABSU has no remark, so the general line applies. If you already teach Basic Science with an NCE, this is the natural degree route. Confirm the entry level with ABSU before you buy the form.

NUC accreditation: what the record shows for ABSU Integrated Science Education

NUC’s publication of accreditation results from 1990 to 2025 (uploaded in September 2026) lists ABSU’s Integrated Science with this run of results: Interim, Denied, Full, Denied. The latest entry is Denied, and no maturity date follows it. The extracted text does not line up each result with its year, so I cannot tell you which exercise produced the denial.

A denied result means the programme failed NUC’s minimum standards at its last visit. NUC’s then acting Executive Secretary, Chris Maiyaki, told the ICIR in February 2024 that a programme that keeps failing can receive an outcome statement that leads to admissions into it being suspended. I found no NUC or ABSU statement saying whether ABSU has since been revisited for Integrated Science Education, or whether it admitted new students into it in 2026/2027. The course is still on ABSU’s JAMB course list as of 29 October 2026.

Several ABSU education courses share this result in the same record, including Chemistry Education, Physics Education, Mathematics Education and Biology Education. Others are listed as full, such as Business Education, Agricultural Science Education and Education Government (Political Science Education). Before you pay acceptance or school fees, ask the ABSU admissions office or the Faculty of Education in writing whether Integrated Science Education is admitting and what its current NUC status is. If it is not admitting, Biology Education, Chemistry Education and Physics Education at ABSU carry the same denied result, so look at Agricultural Science Education (listed by NUC as full) or an Integrated Science or Science Education degree at another university.

How ABSU screens Integrated Science Education applicants

The Registrar, Dr. Acho Elendu, signed ABSU’s 2026/2027 screening notice. I could not open the original on the ABSU website, so the details below come from two reprints that agree with each other: Osilight (posted 9 June 2026) and Myschool (8 June 2026). The notice covers every regular degree course, education courses included.

DetailWhat the 2026/2027 notice said
Who could applyCandidates who chose ABSU as first or second choice, or who changed to ABSU, and scored 150 or more in the UTME
Direct EntryBasic five O’level credit passes under ABSU’s entry requirements
Where to registerOnline at www.abiastateuniversity.edu.ng
What to uploadUTME result, O’level result and degree certificate where applicable, on the ABSU portal (www.portal.abiastateuniversity.edu.ng) and the JAMB portal
Fee₦2,000 by e-payment through the banks named in the notice, or by debit card
Missing the screeningCandidates who do not register “will not be considered for admission”
Written testNot mentioned; the notice describes online document screening
Closing dateNot stated in the reprints

The bank names came out garbled in the reprint, so pay through the options shown on the ABSU portal itself. Since the notice mentions no written test, ABSU ranks you on what it can see: your UTME score and your O’level grades.

Worked example for Integrated Science Education candidates

ABSU has not published an aggregate formula. To show how O’level grades can move you up or down, I use an illustrative method common at Nigerian universities: UTME score divided by 8 (up to 50 points) plus O’level points for five relevant subjects, where A1 = 10, B2 = 9, B3 = 8, C4 = 7, C5 = 6 and C6 = 5 (up to 50 points). This is my example, not ABSU’s formula.

  1. Chiamaka scored 158 with B3 in English, B3 in Mathematics, A1 in Biology, B2 in Chemistry and B3 in Physics. UTME points: 158 ÷ 8 = 19.75. O’level points: 8 + 8 + 10 + 9 + 8 = 43. Illustrative total: 62.75.
  2. Obinna scored 176 with C6 in English, C6 in Mathematics, C5 in Biology, C6 in Chemistry and C6 in Agricultural Science. UTME points: 176 ÷ 8 = 22. O’level points: 5 + 5 + 6 + 5 + 5 = 26. Illustrative total: 48.
  3. The result: Chiamaka finishes about 15 points ahead even with 18 fewer UTME marks.

How to apply for Integrated Science Education at ABSU, step by step

  1. Get a JAMB profile code: text NIN, a space and your 11-digit NIN to 55019 or 66019 from the SIM linked to that NIN. The code arrives by SMS.
  2. Register the UTME with the right course name: pick Education and Integrated Science at Abia State University, with Use of English, Biology, Chemistry and Physics. ABSU screened first and second choice candidates in 2026/2027, but first choice is still the cleaner position. To move ABSU up later, use a JAMB change of institution.
  3. Upload your O’level to CAPS: do this at an accredited JAMB CBT centre once your result is out. Make sure English, Mathematics, Biology and Chemistry are on the upload.
  4. Register for ABSU screening: when the notice is out, go to www.abiastateuniversity.edu.ng, pay the screening fee (₦2,000 in 2026/2027) and upload your UTME result and O’level on the ABSU portal.
  5. Keep your receipts: save the payment receipt and a printout of the completed screening form for clearance.
  6. Check your status: watch the ABSU portal and your JAMB CAPS page. ABSU offers show on CAPS first.
  7. Accept on CAPS: log in at efacility.jamb.gov.ng, choose Check Admission Status, then Access my CAPS, and accept. JAMB gives four weeks. Our JAMB CAPS guide explains each status.
  8. Pay acceptance and clear: ABSU’s acceptance and school fees were not in any source I reached. Pay only the amount on your ABSU portal invoice.

Before you pay

NUC’s latest recorded result for ABSU Integrated Science Education is Denied. Confirm with ABSU’s admissions office that the course is admitting before you pay any fee, and pay only through the ABSU portal. Every genuine offer appears on JAMB CAPS.

JAMB set 31 October 2026 as the 2026/2027 admission deadline for public universities such as ABSU (News Agency of Nigeria, 11 May 2026) and kept that date when it restored CAPS in September (Nairametrics, 28 September 2026). JAMB also said in May 2026 that any admission done outside CAPS is illegal, so your CAPS page is the record that counts.

Integrated Science Education at ABSU: the programme

Integrated Science Education is in ABSU’s College of Education on the Uturu main campus, Isuikwuato LGA. ABSU was founded in 1981 as Imo State University and took its current name after Abia State was created in 1991. The course prepares teachers for Basic Science at junior secondary level, so you study Biology, Chemistry and Physics together rather than one science in depth.

What you study

ABSU has not published a course outline that I could reach. An Integrated Science Education degree in Nigeria usually covers:

  • Foundation courses in Biology, Chemistry, Physics and earth science, with practicals.
  • Environmental and health science topics that appear in the Basic Science curriculum.
  • Education foundations: psychology of learning, philosophy and sociology of education.
  • Science teaching methods, improvising apparatus and running practical classes.
  • Teaching practice in a school and a final-year project.

Degree, duration and teaching practice

Science education degrees are usually awarded as B.Sc (Ed) and run four years for UTME entrants; NCE and A-level holders normally enter at 200 level. ABSU’s own page confirming the title and duration was not available. Teachers also register with the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria.

Careers

  • Basic Science teacher in junior secondary schools.
  • Science teacher in primary and private schools.
  • Science education officer roles with education boards and agencies.
  • Environmental and health education work with NGOs.
  • Postgraduate study in science education.

Revise with our JAMB Biology syllabus and JAMB Chemistry syllabus. If you are writing in 2027, read when JAMB 2027 registration starts, and when results are out, see how to check your JAMB result. If your score or subjects do not fit, our JAMB change of course guide shows how to switch before admission closes.

Mistakes that cost Integrated Science Education applicants an ABSU place

  • Searching JAMB for “Integrated Science”: the ABSU course is listed as Education and Integrated Science.
  • No Biology or Chemistry credit: the O’level line names both.
  • Paying fees without checking the course is admitting: NUC’s latest recorded result for it is denied.
  • Stopping at 150: that score only makes you eligible for screening.
  • Not registering for screening: the notice says such candidates will not be considered.
  • Missing the CAPS window: JAMB gives four weeks to accept.
