Renaissance University (RNU) Cut-Off Mark for Computer Science 2027/2028: Requirements, Subject Combination and Screening

Renaissance University, Ugbawka, accepts 150 in the UTME for Computer Science. See the subject combination, RNU’s stricter O’level rule, fees, a safe target score and the CAPS steps.

The Renaissance University cut off mark for Computer Science is 150 in the UTME. Renaissance University (RNU), Ugbawka, publishes that one minimum for all its programmes for 2026/2027, the same as JAMB’s national minimum for universities. RNU has not published a separate cut-off for Computer Science.

2027/2028 update: RNU cut-off marks usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the figures on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They come from the latest official notice (2026/2027). If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.

The score is the easy part. RNU’s O’level table for Computer Science asks for credits in Physics, Chemistry and Biology, which is stricter than JAMB’s general line, and that is where most Computer Science applicants to RNU will be caught out. Below are the official figures, a safe target score (my advice), subjects, screening, fees and the CAPS steps.

RNU’s 2026/2027 announcement also says candidates who scored 150 or more in the 2023 and 2024 JAMB examinations can apply. That wording looks carried over from an earlier session, so if you are relying on an older UTME result, ask Admissions before you pay anything. Some blogs print a 2025/2026 RNU cut-off without citing any RNU notice, and I would not plan around those numbers.

Safe target score for Computer Science at RNU (my advice)

This is my judgement as an admissions adviser. RNU has not published these numbers.

Your UTME scoreMy read for Computer Science at RNU
Below 150Not eligible for RNU this session
150 to 169Eligible. Likely if your O’level matches RNU’s table
170 to 199Comfortable
200 and aboveStrong, and it keeps other universities open too

Computer Science has no professional-council quota of the kind that limits Law or Nursing, so at a private university the 150 minimum and the O’level table settle most cases. I would still aim for 180 or more, partly because RNU’s FAQ says some programmes may need more than 150, and partly because a stronger score gives you a public university as a backup.

UTME subject combination and O’level for RNU Computer Science

RequirementComputer Science at RNU
UTME subjectsUse of English, Mathematics, Physics and one of Biology, Chemistry, Agricultural Science, Economics or Geography (JAMB brochure general requirement)
O’levelFive credits: English Language, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology (RNU’s own table)
Exams acceptedWAEC or NECO (named by RNU)
SittingsNot more than two (RNU, also shown against RNU on the brochure reprint)
Awaiting resultsNo RNU rule published; ask Admissions
Post-UTMENone published

Here RNU is stricter than JAMB’s general line. The brochure lets you take Economics or Geography as your fourth UTME subject and asks for Physics plus two other science credits at O’level. RNU’s table names the sciences: Physics, Chemistry and Biology. A candidate with Economics in the UTME can still qualify, as long as those three science credits are on the O’level. A candidate without a Chemistry or Biology credit has a problem.

The Myschool reprint of the brochure also carries a remark under the abbreviation RNU about Further Mathematics with Physics or Chemistry. I couldn’t match it clearly to Renaissance University, so if you are relying on Further Mathematics, ask Admissions whether it applies to you.

Direct Entry into Computer Science at RNU

RNU’s Direct Entry page lists these routes. It does not publish separate Direct Entry rules for each course, so read them alongside the subject requirements above.

QualificationRNU’s stated minimum
A’level (Cambridge, JUPEB or IJMB)At least two passes in relevant subjects
ND or HNDAt least Lower Credit from a recognised institution
NCEAt least merit in a related field
Also requiredO’level result, passport photographs and a JAMB Direct Entry registration for the current year

JAMB’s general Direct Entry rule for Computer Science asks for two A’level science passes including Mathematics, or an NCE merit in Mathematics and one other subject. RNU’s own Direct Entry page accepts the A’level, ND or HND and NCE routes shown above, so check your subjects against the JAMB line before you register.

Does RNU write Post-UTME for Computer Science?

RNU’s official pages describe a free online application followed by a document check. None of them mention a Post-UTME test, a screening fee or an aggregate formula. RNU still needs you on JAMB CAPS with an eligible score, the right subjects and your O’level uploaded, because every admission in Nigeria goes through CAPS.

RNU’s Direct Entry page adds that applicants may be asked to attend an interview or bring extra documents. For Computer Science the clearance check that matters most is your O’level science credits.

Worked example (illustrative)

RNU has not published an aggregate formula, so this example checks eligibility and the money you need before resumption, using RNU’s own figures. Take Emeka, who scored 168 with English, Mathematics, Physics and Economics, and has credits in English, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Economics.

  1. Score check: 168 minus 150 = 18. He clears RNU’s minimum by 18 marks.
  2. UTME check: Economics is allowed as the fourth subject on JAMB’s general line.
  3. O’level check: he has no Biology credit, and RNU’s table asks for one. This is his real problem.
  4. His options: ask Admissions whether RNU will accept him without Biology; if not, sit Biology in the next WAEC GCE or NECO GCE and upload the new result to CAPS.
  5. Money before resumption: on three instalments, 50% of ₦1,600,000 = ₦800,000, plus ₦50,000 acceptance = ₦850,000. On four instalments, 40% = ₦640,000, plus ₦50,000 = ₦690,000.

Ada scored 158 with English, Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry and has all five credits RNU lists. Her score is lower than Emeka’s, but on RNU’s published rules she is the cleaner candidate.

Computer Science, Software Engineering, Cyber Security Science, Medical Laboratory Science and Accounting share the ₦1,600,000 band. Law and Nursing cost ₦1,800,000, and RNU’s FAQ puts the overall range at about ₦1.5 million to ₦1.8 million.

Your chances of getting Computer Science at RNU

RNU is a private, fee-paying university, and it does not publish how many people apply or how many it admits per course. From how private universities in the South East usually fill their places, a candidate who meets the 150 minimum, has the right O’level credits and can pay the fees normally stands a fair chance. That is my reading of the market, not an RNU statistic.

Computer Science is popular, and RNU now lists Software Engineering and Cyber Security Science in the same faculty at the same fee. Software Engineering takes the same UTME combination on JAMB’s general line, so if Computer Science fills, a change of course on CAPS to Software Engineering may be open to you. Ask Admissions before accepting any Transfer Approval.

How to apply for Computer Science at RNU, step by step

  1. Get your JAMB profile code: send NIN, a space and your 11-digit NIN to 55019 or 66019 from the phone line linked to your NIN.
  2. Register the UTME with the right subjects: Use of English, Mathematics, Physics and one of Biology, Chemistry, Agricultural Science, Economics or Geography. Pick Renaissance University as your first choice. RNU says candidates who chose another school must do a JAMB change of institution before it can admit them.
  3. Upload your O’level to CAPS: RNU lists this as a step in its own application process. If you can’t do it at a CBT centre near you, RNU says its on-campus JAMB CBT centre handles O’level upload, change of institution and CAPS acceptance for a small charge.
  4. Fill the RNU online form: go to rnu.edu.ng/admissions/regular_admission and choose Computer Science. RNU charges no application fee, and its announcement says the form takes about three minutes. You can also apply in person at the Admissions Office in Ugbawka.
  5. Answer any follow-up from Admissions: RNU publishes no Post-UTME test. Its Direct Entry page says applicants may be asked to attend an interview or bring more documents, so keep your phone on and your papers ready.
  6. Accept the offer on CAPS: log in at efacility.jamb.gov.ng, open Check Admission Status, then Access my CAPS. Accept only when the offer shows RNU and Computer Science. Our JAMB CAPS guide explains each status.
  7. Pay acceptance and the first instalment: ₦50,000 acceptance, then at least the first instalment of the ₦1,600,000 session fee before resumption. Pay only into the university account shown on rnu.edu.ng and confirm the payment with the Bursar.
  8. Clear with your documents: O’level result, four passport photographs, JAMB result, birth certificate, local government identification letter or certificate of origin, NIN slip, acceptance and school fee receipts, and A’level result for Direct Entry.

Warning

RNU charges no application fee. Anyone who asks you to pay for an RNU form or promises a guaranteed slot for money is not acting for the university. A genuine offer appears on your JAMB CAPS page, and fees go only into the university account shown on rnu.edu.ng, confirmed with the Bursar.

Studying Computer Science at Renaissance University

Computer Science is in RNU’s Faculty of Natural and Applied Sciences with Software Engineering, Cyber Security Science, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Industrial Chemistry and Industrial Physics. RNU is in Ugbawka, Nkanu East Local Government Area of Enugu State, about five minutes from ESUT’s Agbani campus, and the NUC licensed it as a private university in 2005. The degree is a B.Sc., which normally takes four years in Nigeria; RNU’s pages don’t state the duration.

RNU’s pages say its courses are accredited by the NUC but give no status for each course, and I didn’t find a separate NUC result for RNU Computer Science. Ask Admissions for the programme’s current NUC accreditation status before you pay.

What you study

  • Foundations: programming, calculus, discrete mathematics and statistics.
  • Core computing: data structures and algorithms, computer architecture, operating systems, databases and networks.
  • Later years: software engineering, artificial intelligence and other electives, industrial training (SIWES) and a final-year project.

Careers

Graduates work as software developers, data analysts, network and systems administrators, IT support staff and security analysts, and many take remote roles with foreign companies. Others teach or go into research.

Mathematics and Physics carry most of the weight in this combination, so put most of your revision there. If you registered the wrong subjects, read our JAMB change of course guide.

Mistakes that cost Computer Science applicants an RNU place

  • Leaving out Physics in the UTME: it is part of JAMB’s Computer Science line.
  • No Chemistry or Biology credit: RNU’s table asks for both.
  • Three sittings: RNU accepts at most two.
  • RNU not your first choice: fix it with a JAMB change of institution.
  • Accepting on CAPS and stopping there: acceptance fee and clearance at Ugbawka come next.

If you are sitting the UTME again, read when JAMB 2027 registration starts and how to check your JAMB result.

Sources and updates

The 150 minimum, the O’level table, the first-choice rule, the CAPS step, the document list and the note on RNU’s JAMB CBT centre come from RNU’s undergraduate admissions page (checked 29 October 2026). The acceptance fees, the no-application-fee rule, the instalment plans, the hostel rules and the remark that some programmes may need more than 150 come from RNU’s admissions FAQ. Session fees by programme, the admission routes and the application link come from RNU’s 2026/2027 admission announcement. Direct Entry routes come from RNU’s Direct Entry page. The national minimum of 150 for universities was set at JAMB’s 2026 policy meeting on 11 May 2026, as reported by the News Agency of Nigeria; News Central TV’s list of institution cut-offs from that meeting does not include RNU. The UTME, O’level and Direct Entry lines for Computer Science, and the two-sittings remark shown against RNU, are from JAMB’s brochure as reprinted by Myschool. Safe target scores, the odds discussion and the worked example are my advice as an admissions adviser, not RNU figures. This page will be updated when RNU publishes its 2027/2028 admission notice or a departmental cut-off.
