GOUNI Economics Cut-Off Mark 2027/2028 and Admission Requirements

GOUNI’s cut-off mark for Economics is 150 and the form is free. See the JAMB subjects, the two-sitting O’level rule, Direct Entry, the course list from GOUNI’s curriculum and the 2021 NUC result.

The GOUNI Economics cut-off mark is 150 in the UTME. Godfrey Okoye University, Enugu, set 150 as the minimum JAMB score for all programmes other than Medicine, Law and Nursing in 2026/2027, and the B.Sc. Economics is one of them. It matches JAMB’s national minimum for universities, and the Economics form is free.

2027/2028 update: GOUNI cut-off marks usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the figures on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They come from the latest official notice (2026/2027). If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.

On JAMB, the course is listed for GOUNI simply as Economics. It is one of the programmes GOUNI and Myschool reported in August 2021 as having earned full NUC accreditation, and GOUNI’s posted curriculum, dated September 2023, sets out the entry rules and the four-year course list.

Below are the official figure, a safe target score, the UTME and O’level subjects, Direct Entry, how GOUNI’s online screening works with two worked examples, what you will study, and other Economics options in and around Enugu.

Is 150 enough for Economics at GOUNI?

Yes. GOUNI’s 2026/2027 admission page lists Medicine and Surgery 200, Nursing 180, Law 200, Architecture 150, Computer Science 150, Education 150 and other programmes 150. Economics is in the last group. AbsTechConnect repeated the same figures on 24 May 2026.

GOUNI publishes no merit list and no departmental figure, so any “GOUNI Economics cut-off” above 150 on a blog is a guess. What trips applicants up is the subject list: Economics and Mathematics are compulsory in the UTME and at O’level, and GOUNI’s curriculum limits your O’level to two sittings.

Safe target score for GOUNI Economics (my advice)

Your UTME scoreMy read for Economics at GOUNI
Below 150Not eligible at any Nigerian university in 2026/2027
150 to 159Eligible at GOUNI, Coal City, Spiritan and Maduka if your O’level is clean
160 to 179Comfortable at GOUNI; also clears UNN’s and ESUT’s 160 floor for Economics
180 and aboveStrong at every option in Enugu

For the 2027 UTME, I would aim for 165 or more. That leaves you a margin at GOUNI and opens UNN Economics and ESUT Economics, both of which screened from 160 in 2026/2027. GOUNI is private, so no catchment or state quota applies.

JUPEB combination at GOUNIEconomics, Government and Mathematics (or Economics, Business Studies and Mathematics)

Choosing your fourth UTME subject

Economics and Mathematics are fixed, and the fourth slot is open to an Arts or Social Science subject. Government is the one I would pick: it appears in GOUNI’s JUPEB combination and it is the most widely accepted option across universities, so it keeps your backups open. Geography and Literature in English also work. Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Commerce and Accounts are outside JAMB’s list for this course, so a science or commercial student should not use them as the fourth subject.

O’level rules that trip people up

The Mathematics credit is the one people miss most. JAMB and GOUNI both require it, and a D7 will get your application rejected. The second trap is the sitting rule: GOUNI’s curriculum says your five credits must come from no more than two sittings. A safe set is English Language, Mathematics, Economics, Government and Civic Education or Geography.

How GOUNI admission works for Economics

GOUNI’s 2026/2027 admission page describes an online application followed by an e-mailed decision within three working days. It mentions no written Post-UTME test or interview for undergraduates. Without a published aggregate formula, the decision rests on your score, your subjects and your O’level.

Worked example for an Economics applicant

Uchenna scored 163 in English, Economics, Mathematics and Government. Her NECO result from one sitting has B2 in English Language, C5 in Mathematics, B3 in Economics, B3 in Government and C4 in Geography.

  1. Score check: 163 minus 150 = 13. She clears GOUNI’s minimum by 13 marks.
  2. Subject check: Economics, Mathematics and Government match JAMB’s line for Economics.
  3. O’level check: English, Mathematics and Economics credits in one sitting, plus Government and Geography. She meets JAMB’s rule, GOUNI’s curriculum and the form page.
  4. What I would tell her: apply early and accept on CAPS once the offer shows. With 163 she also clears UNN and ESUT’s 160 if she wants a public university backup.

Kelechi scored 184 in English, Economics, Mathematics and Physics. His score is high, but Physics is not in JAMB’s list of fourth subjects for Economics. Some universities accept a science subject there under their own remarks, but GOUNI has none on the Economics page. I would tell him to e-mail GOUNI admissions with his registration number and ask in writing whether it can consider him. If the answer is no, the clean fix is to write the 2027 UTME with Government as his fourth subject.

How to apply for Economics at GOUNI

  1. Get your JAMB profile code: text NIN, a space and your 11-digit NIN to 55019 or 66019 from the phone line linked to your NIN.
  2. Register the right course: pick Godfrey Okoye University and the course exactly as JAMB lists it, Economics, with the correct UTME subjects.
  3. Fix your choice if needed: GOUNI says candidates who did not choose it first must do a JAMB change of institution to GOUNI. Our change of institution guide walks you through it.
  4. Upload your O’level to CAPS: do this at a JAMB-accredited centre, and check that every grade shows correctly on your e-Facility profile.
  5. Fill GOUNI’s online form: open the Fill Admission Form page on gouni.edu.ng and apply for Economics. Use an e-mail address you check daily, because the decision comes by e-mail.
  6. Form fee: free for Economics. Only Medicine and Surgery, Nursing and Law carry the ₦5,000 fee. Anyone who charges you for the Economics form is not GOUNI.
  7. Wait for the e-mail: GOUNI says it replies within three working days of submission.
  8. Accept on CAPS: log in at efacility.jamb.gov.ng, open Check Admission Status, then Access my CAPS, and accept the offer. Our JAMB CAPS guide explains each status.
  9. Pay fees the right way: after an offer, GOUNI asks students outside Medicine, Nursing and Law to pay acceptance, tuition, ICT and other fees. Use only GOUNI’s official online payment platform.

Warning

GOUNI tells applicants to pay only through the university’s official online payment platform and says money paid into a personal account is at the payer’s own risk. Nobody can sell you a GOUNI admission slot. Every genuine offer shows on JAMB CAPS.

For the 2026/2027 cycle, JAMB set 30 November 2026 as the admission deadline for private universities, and GOUNI repeated that date in its news post of 12 May 2026. That window runs until 30 November 2026. JAMB has not announced the 2027/2028 dates yet; they normally come after the UTME, so 2027 candidates should watch for them then.

Studying Economics at GOUNI

GOUNI’s B.Sc. Economics curriculum, dated September 2023, follows the NUC’s Core Curriculum and Minimum Academic Standards. UTME entrants take a four-year programme of 8 to 12 semesters and need at least 120 credit units to graduate. Direct Entry students take a three-year programme and need at least 90 units. GOUNI’s 2025/2026 second-semester timetable shows Economics classes at all four levels.

LevelCore courses in GOUNI’s curriculum
100Principles of Economics I and II, Introductory Mathematics I and II, Introduction to Economic Statistics I and II, General Studies
200Introduction to Microeconomics I and II, Introduction to Macroeconomics I and II, Structure of the Nigerian Economy, Statistics for Economists, Mathematics for Economists, Introduction to Computer, Entrepreneurship
300Intermediate Microeconomics and Macroeconomics, History of Economic Thought, Introductory Econometrics, Project Evaluation, Public Sector Economics, Research Method I
400Advanced Microeconomics and Macroeconomics, Economic Planning, Monetary Theory and Policy, Fiscal Policy and Analysis, Research Method II, a six-unit research project

GOUNI adds its own courses on top of the national minimum. Its 400-level list includes Coal Economics, a nod to Enugu’s history as the Coal City, and Environmental Economics. Expect a lot of mathematics and statistics from the first year; students who struggle with Mathematics in secondary school find 200-level Mathematics for Economists and 300-level Econometrics the hardest courses.

Accreditation

GOUNI’s own news release and Myschool’s report of 9 August 2021 both list Economics among 13 GOUNI programmes that earned full NUC accreditation. Full accreditation normally lasts five years, which places the next NUC visit around 2026. I did not find a newer result: NUC’s online results PDF cuts off before universities starting with G, and no NUC report page for GOUNI Economics came up in searches. GOUNI’s accreditation page says all its programmes are NUC accredited, without dates. The 2021 result is a good sign; ask GOUNI to confirm the current position before you pay fees.

Careers

Economics graduates work in banks and other financial firms, as research and policy analysts, in the Central Bank and other public agencies, in consulting, in development organisations and in teaching. Many go on to a master’s degree, or to professional exams in banking, accounting or investment.
