GOUNI Economics Education Cut-Off Mark 2027/2028 and Admission Requirements

GOUNI’s cut-off mark for Economics Education is 150, and the form is free. See the JAMB course name, the Economics and Mathematics subject rule, O’level, a target score and the 2021 NUC result.

The GOUNI Economics Education cut-off mark is 150 in the UTME. Godfrey Okoye University, Enugu, lists 150 as the minimum JAMB score for its Education courses in 2026/2027, and Economics Education is one of them. That figure matches JAMB’s national minimum for universities, and the GOUNI form for the course is free.

2027/2028 update: GOUNI cut-off marks usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the figures on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They come from the latest official notice (2026/2027). If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.

On JAMB, register the course as Education and Economics, the name on JAMB’s course list for GOUNI. Economics Education appears on GOUNI’s Faculty of Education page and on its 2026/2027 list of available programmes. It was also among the GOUNI programmes reported to have full NUC accreditation in 2021, which I cover further down.

This page sets out the official figure, a realistic target, the UTME and O’level subjects, the online admission process with worked examples, and where an economics teaching degree can take you.

Is 150 enough for Economics Education at GOUNI?

Yes. GOUNI’s 2026/2027 list of minimum scores puts Education at 150, the same as “other programmes”. Only Medicine and Surgery, Law and Nursing carry higher figures. AbsTechConnect repeated the same structure on 24 May 2026.

GOUNI does not publish merit lists or departmental cut-offs. Economics Education usually attracts fewer applicants than the B.Sc. Economics, so a candidate with 150 or more and the right O’level should have a fair chance. That is my judgement based on how education courses usually fill at private universities. GOUNI has not published any figures on it.

Safe target score for GOUNI Economics Education (my advice)

Your UTME scoreMy read for GOUNI Economics Education
Below 150Not eligible at any Nigerian university in 2026/2027
150 to 164Eligible; a fair chance with Economics and Mathematics credits
165 to 189Comfortable
190 and aboveStrong, and it keeps public universities open to you

For the 2027 UTME, I would aim for 165 or more. That gives you room if GOUNI raises its bar, and it also clears the 160 that UNN Social Science Education screens from. GOUNI is private, so no catchment or state quota applies.

UTME subject combination and O’level for GOUNI Economics Education

RequirementEconomics Education at GOUNI
UTME subjectsUse of English, Economics, Mathematics, and one of Geography or Physics, History, Government and Literature in English
O’level (JAMB rule)Five credits including English Language, Economics and Mathematics
GOUNI’s own ruleFive credits in the course’s required subjects, including English and Mathematics
GOUNI remark in the brochureNone
Direct Entry (JAMB rule)Two A-level passes in Economics and one other relevant subject, or NCE credit or merit passes in Economics and one other subject
GOUNI Direct Entry noteApply with the current JAMB Direct Entry form
JUPEB combination at GOUNIEconomics, Mathematics, and Physics, Geography or Government

Economics and Mathematics are fixed. Government is the most common third subject, and it fits both the brochure line and GOUNI’s JUPEB combination. Geography works too. Commerce, Accounting and CRS are not in JAMB’s base rule for this course, even though a few universities accept them under their own remarks. GOUNI has no remark here, so stick to the base list.

For O’level, JAMB already requires Mathematics, so GOUNI’s extra rule changes nothing for this course. You need credits in English Language, Economics and Mathematics, plus two more. Government, Geography, Commerce or Literature are typical. Keep all of them in one sitting if you can, because GOUNI has not said whether it accepts two sittings for UTME entrants.

Worked example for an Economics Education applicant

Without a published aggregate formula, the check is your UTME score against 150 and your O’level against JAMB’s three named credits.

Nkechi scored 168 in English, Economics, Mathematics and Government. Her NECO result from one sitting has B3 in English Language, B2 in Economics, C5 in Mathematics, B3 in Government and C4 in Commerce.

  1. Eligibility: 168 minus 150 = 18. She is 18 marks above GOUNI’s minimum.
  2. Against my target: 168 is in my comfortable band.
  3. O’level check: English, Economics and Mathematics are all credits, with Government and Commerce as the other two. She meets JAMB’s rule and GOUNI’s.
  4. What I would advise: apply once the form opens and accept on CAPS as soon as the offer shows.

Tobenna scored 181 but wrote English, Economics, Government and CRS, without Mathematics. His score is good, yet JAMB’s subject rule for Education and Economics needs Mathematics in the UTME, so this registration will not fit. I would point him to GOUNI Political Science Education or Social Studies Education, whose subjects match what he wrote, and tell him to e-mail GOUNI admissions before applying.

How to apply for Economics Education at GOUNI

  1. Get your JAMB profile code: text NIN, a space and your 11-digit NIN to 55019 or 66019 from the phone line linked to your NIN.
  2. Register the right course: pick Godfrey Okoye University and the course exactly as JAMB lists it, Education and Economics, with the correct UTME subjects.
  3. Fix your choice if needed: GOUNI says candidates who did not choose it first must do a JAMB change of institution to GOUNI. Our change of institution guide walks you through it.
  4. Upload your O’level to CAPS: do this at a JAMB-accredited centre, and check that every grade shows correctly on your e-Facility profile.
  5. Fill GOUNI’s online form: open the Fill Admission Form page on gouni.edu.ng and apply for Economics Education. Use an e-mail address you check daily, because the decision comes by e-mail.
  6. Form fee: free for Economics Education. Anyone who charges you for this form is not GOUNI.
  7. Wait for the e-mail: GOUNI says it replies within three working days of submission.
  8. Accept on CAPS: log in at efacility.jamb.gov.ng, open Check Admission Status, then Access my CAPS, and accept the offer. Our JAMB CAPS guide explains each status.
  9. Pay fees the right way: after an offer, GOUNI asks students outside Medicine, Nursing and Law to pay acceptance, tuition, ICT and other fees. Use only GOUNI’s official online platform.

Warning

GOUNI tells applicants to pay only through the university’s official online payment platform and says money paid into a personal account is at the payer’s own risk. Nobody can sell you a GOUNI admission slot. Every genuine offer shows on JAMB CAPS.

For the 2026/2027 cycle, JAMB set 30 November 2026 as the admission deadline for private universities, and GOUNI repeated that date in its news post of 12 May 2026. That window runs until 30 November 2026. JAMB has not announced the 2027/2028 dates yet; they normally come after the UTME, so 2027 candidates should watch for them then.

Studying Economics Education at GOUNI

Economics Education trains you to teach economics in secondary schools. You take economics courses with the economics students, plus education courses and a teaching practice placement. GOUNI has not published the award title or duration for its education degrees on the pages I read. In Nigeria the usual length is four years for UTME entrants, with Direct Entry students starting at 200 level.

GOUNI’s Faculty of Education page, published on 17 February 2026, lists Economics Education among its 11 programmes, with Rev. Br. Prof. Gregory Ekene Osuji as dean.

Accreditation

Myschool reported on 9 August 2021 that 13 GOUNI programmes received full NUC accreditation, and “Education Economics” was one of them. Full accreditation normally lasts five years, which means the programme would be due for its next NUC visit around 2026. I did not find a newer result: NUC’s online results PDF cuts off before universities starting with G, and no NUC report page for this course came up in searches. GOUNI’s accreditation page says all its programmes have NUC accreditation, without dates. I would treat the 2021 result as a good sign and still ask GOUNI admissions to confirm the current status in writing.

What you study

  • Economics: microeconomics, macroeconomics, money and banking, public finance, development economics and international trade.
  • Quantitative tools: mathematics for economists and statistics, which is why Mathematics is compulsory at entry.
  • Education: educational psychology, curriculum studies, methods of teaching economics, and measurement and evaluation.
  • Teaching practice and project: a supervised placement in a secondary school, then a final-year research project.

Graduates teach economics and commerce in secondary schools, work in school administration, join banks and other finance employers that hire social science graduates, or go on to a master’s degree in economics education or economics.

One more thing for anyone training to teach: an education degree on its own does not license you to teach in Nigeria. Graduates register with the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN), which also runs a Professional Qualifying Examination. Ask GOUNI’s Faculty of Education how it prepares final-year students for that step.

Outside GOUNI, Coal City University’s Education and Economics is another private option in Enugu at the 150 floor.

Mistakes Economics Education applicants make

  • No Mathematics in the UTME: JAMB makes it compulsory for Education and Economics.
  • Commerce or CRS as the third UTME subject: they are outside JAMB’s base list for this course.
  • A pass in Mathematics at O’level: both JAMB and GOUNI want a credit.
  • Leaving GOUNI as second choice: GOUNI asks for a change of institution.
  • O’level missing on CAPS: JAMB cannot process the admission without it.

If you registered another course and want to switch, see our JAMB change of course guide. Writing again in 2027? Check when JAMB 2027 registration starts.
