GOUNI Cut-Off Mark for Accounting 2027/2028: Requirements, Subject Combination and Screening

GOUNI’s cut-off mark for Accounting is 150 and the form is free. See the JAMB subjects, the two-sitting O’level rule, Direct Entry with ICAN Foundation, the curriculum and how GOUNI screens online.

The GOUNI cut-off mark for Accounting is 150 in the UTME. Godfrey Okoye University, Enugu, set 150 as the minimum JAMB score for every programme outside Medicine, Law and Nursing in 2026/2027, and Accounting sits in that group. The figure is the same as JAMB’s national minimum for universities, and the application form for Accounting is free.

2027/2028 update: GOUNI cut-off marks usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the figures on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They come from the latest official notice (2026/2027). If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.

Accounting is a four-year B.Sc. in GOUNI’s Faculty of Management and Social Sciences, and JAMB lists it for GOUNI simply as Accounting. Two GOUNI rules matter more than the score: you need Economics in both the UTME and your O’level, and GOUNI caps your O’level at two sittings.

This guide covers the official figure, a realistic target, the subject combination, the O’level and Direct Entry rules (including the ICAN Foundation route), the online admission process with worked examples, what the GOUNI curriculum contains, and the alternatives in Enugu.

Is 150 enough for Accounting at GOUNI?

Yes, on paper. GOUNI’s 2026/2027 admission page gives these minimum JAMB scores: Medicine and Surgery 200, Nursing 180, Law 200, Architecture 150, Computer Science 150, Education 150 and other programmes 150. Accounting is not singled out, so it takes the general 150. AbsTechConnect repeated the same structure on 24 May 2026.

GOUNI does not publish merit lists or departmental cut-offs, so there is no hidden “Accounting cut-off” of 180 or 200 to chase. Accounting is one of the more popular courses in any management faculty, though, and the earlier you apply, the better. A clean O’level with Economics and Mathematics in one sitting does more for you at GOUNI than ten extra UTME marks.

Safe target score for GOUNI Accounting (my advice)

Your UTME scoreMy read for Accounting at GOUNI
Below 150Not eligible at any Nigerian university in 2026/2027
150 to 159Eligible at GOUNI, Coal City University and Caritas; apply early
160 to 179Comfortable at GOUNI; also clears UNN’s 160 screening floor
180 and aboveStrong; clears ESUT’s 180 band for Accountancy as well

For the 2027 UTME, I would aim for 170 or more. It puts you comfortably above GOUNI’s line and keeps UNN Accountancy within reach as a public option. GOUNI is private, so state of origin and catchment do not count.

UTME subject combination and O’level for Accounting at GOUNI

RequirementAccounting at GOUNI
UTME subjectsUse of English, Mathematics, Economics and any other Social Science subject
O’level (JAMB rule)Five credits including English Language, Mathematics, Economics and two other relevant subjects
GOUNI remark in the brochureFive credits at not more than two sittings, including English Language, Mathematics and Economics
GOUNI curriculum (September 2023)Five credits including English and Mathematics, plus three from Principles of Accounts, Commerce, Economics or other relevant commercial subjects, in at most two sittings
Direct Entry (JAMB rule)Two A-level passes including Economics
GOUNI Direct Entry remarkAccepts a B.Sc., BA or HND in another programme, ND upper credit in Accounting, or the ICAN Foundation
JUPEB combination at GOUNIMathematics, Economics, and Business Studies or Government

Choosing your fourth UTME subject

Mathematics and Economics are fixed. For the fourth subject, JAMB says any other Social Science subject. Government is the safest pick because it also matches GOUNI’s JUPEB combination. Many commercial students want to sit Commerce or Principles of Accounts instead. JAMB’s wording is “Social Science subject”, and those two are usually classed as commercial subjects, so check the e-brochure at your registration centre before you rely on either. Geography is another common choice. Never drop Mathematics or Economics to make room for Accounts; the course needs both.

O’level: Economics and the two-sitting cap

GOUNI’s remark in JAMB’s brochure is stricter than JAMB’s own wording in one way: it says your five credits must come from not more than two sittings. Three WAEC or NECO results combined will not work. GOUNI’s curriculum describes the third to fifth subjects as Principles of Accounts, Commerce, Economics or similar commercial subjects, while the brochure remark names Economics outright. To satisfy both, present credits in English Language, Mathematics, Economics, Financial Accounting and Commerce.

How GOUNI admission works for Accounting

GOUNI’s 2026/2027 admission page describes an online application followed by an e-mailed decision within three working days. It mentions no written Post-UTME test or interview for undergraduates. Without a published aggregate formula, the decision rests on your UTME score, your subjects and your O’level.

Worked example for an Accounting applicant

Ebuka scored 176 in English, Mathematics, Economics and Government. His WAEC result from one sitting has B3 in English Language, B2 in Mathematics, B3 in Economics, A1 in Financial Accounting and C4 in Government.

  1. Score check: 176 minus 150 = 26. He clears GOUNI’s minimum with room to spare.
  2. Subject check: Mathematics and Economics are present, and Government is a Social Science subject.
  3. O’level check: English, Mathematics and Economics credits in one sitting, plus Financial Accounting and Government. He meets the brochure remark and the curriculum rule.
  4. My advice: apply early and accept on CAPS once the offer shows. With 176 he could keep UNN Accountancy as a parallel option.

Adanna scored 191 in English, Mathematics, Economics and Government. Her credits are spread across three results: English and Mathematics in WAEC 2024, Economics in NECO 2024 and Commerce in a 2025 GCE. Her score is excellent, but GOUNI’s two-sitting cap rules her out on this combination. She needs to retake the missing subjects so that all five credits sit within two results, or apply to a university that accepts more sittings.

Direct Entry into GOUNI Accounting

GOUNI’s curriculum puts Direct Entry students into a three-year programme. JAMB’s base rule is two A-level passes including Economics. GOUNI’s own remark in the brochure widens that: it accepts a B.Sc., BA or HND in another programme, an ND upper credit in Accounting, or the ICAN Foundation certificate. GOUNI’s curriculum adds that a Direct Entry candidate needs five O’level credits and two A-level passes, one of them in Principles of Accounts, Commerce or Economics.

So if you hold an ND in Accounting with an upper credit, or you passed the ICAN Foundation level, GOUNI’s Direct Entry route is open to you. Register on JAMB’s Direct Entry form, choose GOUNI and Accounting, then fill GOUNI’s online form the same way UTME candidates do.

How to apply for Accounting at GOUNI

  1. Get your JAMB profile code: text NIN, a space and your 11-digit NIN to 55019 or 66019 from the phone line linked to your NIN.
  2. Register the right course: pick Godfrey Okoye University and the course exactly as JAMB lists it, Accounting, with the correct UTME subjects.
  3. Fix your choice if needed: GOUNI says candidates who did not choose it first must do a JAMB change of institution to GOUNI. Our change of institution guide walks you through it.
  4. Upload your O’level to CAPS: do this at a JAMB-accredited centre, and check that every grade shows correctly on your e-Facility profile.
  5. Fill GOUNI’s online form: open the Fill Admission Form page on gouni.edu.ng and apply for Accounting. Use an e-mail address you check daily, because the decision comes by e-mail.
  6. Form fee: free for Accounting. Only Medicine and Surgery, Nursing and Law carry the ₦5,000 fee. Anyone who charges you for the Accounting form is not GOUNI.
  7. Wait for the e-mail: GOUNI says it replies within three working days of submission.
  8. Accept on CAPS: log in at efacility.jamb.gov.ng, open Check Admission Status, then Access my CAPS, and accept the offer. Our JAMB CAPS guide explains each status.
  9. Pay fees the right way: after an offer, GOUNI asks students outside Medicine, Nursing and Law to pay acceptance, tuition, ICT and other fees. Use only GOUNI’s official online payment platform.

Warning

GOUNI tells applicants to pay only through the university’s official online payment platform and says money paid into a personal account is at the payer’s own risk. Nobody can sell you a GOUNI admission slot. Every genuine offer shows on JAMB CAPS.

For the 2026/2027 cycle, JAMB set 30 November 2026 as the admission deadline for private universities, and GOUNI repeated that date in its news post of 12 May 2026. That window runs until 30 November 2026. JAMB has not announced the 2027/2028 dates yet; they normally come after the UTME, so 2027 candidates should watch for them then.

Studying Accounting at GOUNI

GOUNI’s B.Sc. Accounting curriculum, dated September 2023 and posted on the university’s site, follows the NUC’s Core Curriculum and Minimum Academic Standards (CCMAS). UTME entrants spend four sessions, Direct Entry students three, and a student who falls behind may take up to half the normal duration again to finish. GOUNI’s Accounting page, updated on 8 February 2026, describes it as a four-year B.Sc. and lists Dr John Onyemaechi Odo, FCA, among its staff.

LevelCore courses in GOUNI’s curriculum
100Introduction to Financial Accounting I and II, Principles of Management, Basic Mathematics, Introduction to Computing, Principles of Project Management, General Studies
200Financial Accounting I and II, Corporate Governance and Accounting Ethics, Cost Accounting, Accounting Laboratory, Entrepreneurship and Innovation
300Financial Reporting I and II, Management Accounting, Taxation I and II, Auditing and Assurance I, Public Sector Accounting and Reporting, an accounting workshop and internship course, Venture Creation
400Advanced Financial Reporting, Corporate Reporting, Auditing and Assurance II, Financial Management, Bankruptcy and Liquidation, Project

The course leans on calculation from the first semester, which is why Mathematics and Economics are compulsory at entry. The 300 level is the heaviest year, with taxation, auditing and financial reporting running together. GOUNI’s timetable for the 2025/2026 second semester shows Accounting classes at all four levels, so the programme is running in full.

Accreditation and ICAN

GOUNI’s accreditation page says all its programmes have NUC accreditation, without naming courses or dates. Accounting was not among the 13 GOUNI programmes reported to have full NUC accreditation in August 2021, and I found no separate NUC result for B.Sc. Accounting: NUC’s online results PDF cuts off before universities starting with G, and searches turned up no NUC report page for it. GOUNI did announce NUC approval for a PhD in Accounting, in a letter dated 10 February 2021, which shows the department is well established. Still, treat the B.Sc.’s current NUC status as not confirmed and ask GOUNI admissions.

On ICAN, the only sourced link is the Direct Entry remark above, which accepts the ICAN Foundation certificate for entry. I found no ICAN statement on exam exemptions for GOUNI graduates, and the curriculum itself does not mention ICAN or ANAN. If exemptions matter to your plans, ask the department in writing which ICAN papers, if any, its graduates are excused from.

Careers

GOUNI’s Accounting page lists financial analysis, auditing, tax consulting and management accounting, with banks, insurance companies, investment and brokerage firms as employers, and self-employment as an option. Most graduates also sit professional exams with ICAN or ANAN to qualify as chartered accountants.

Mistakes Accounting applicants make

  • No Economics in the UTME or O’level: both JAMB and GOUNI’s remark name it.
  • Three O’level sittings: GOUNI caps it at two.
  • A pass in Mathematics: GOUNI wants a credit.
  • Leaving GOUNI as second choice: GOUNI asks for a change of institution.
  • O’level missing on CAPS: JAMB cannot process the admission without it.
