ESUT Department of Cyber Security 2027/2028: Cut-Off Mark and Aggregate Breakdown

ESUT set 200 as the minimum UTME score for its new Cyber Security degree in 2027/2028 and has no published aggregate formula. See an honest aggregate breakdown, safe target, JAMB subjects, O’level rules, screening and CAPS steps.

The ESUT Cyber Security cut off mark for 2026/2027 is 200 in the 2026 UTME. Enugu State University of Science and Technology put its new B.Sc. Cyber Security in the 200 band of the official Post-UTME advert of 4 July 2026, the same minimum as Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence and Data Science.

2027/2028 update: ESUT cut-off marks usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the figures on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They come from the latest official notice (2026/2027). If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.

Cyber Security is one of five degrees the NUC approved for ESUT in July 2026, with the first students admitted in 2026/2027. That means one official figure, no merit score and no accreditation result yet. Many candidates also search for an “ESUT Cyber Security aggregate”, so this guide explains plainly what ESUT has and has not published about aggregates, then walks through a breakdown you can use to compare yourself with other applicants. It also covers the subject combination, O’level rules, screening, CAPS steps and what the course teaches.

Keep two numbers apart. The minimum UTME score (200) is the gate ESUT announced before screening. The merit score is the lowest score ESUT actually admits once it ranks applicants against the places it has. ESUT does not publish merit scores for any course, and for a brand-new programme nobody outside the university knows yet how many people applied.

Because 2026/2027 is the first intake, there is nothing earlier to compare. A “2025 ESUT Cyber Security cut-off” on any site is invented. ESUT reviews its minimums each year, so read the 2027/2028 advert before relying on 200; in 2026 the advert came out in early July.

What “new and NUC-approved” means for you

The NUC approved Cyber Security at ESUT as one of five new full-time B.Sc. programmes for the 2026/2027 session, according to a Premium Times press release republished by AllAfrica on 16 to 17 July 2026. The other four are Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, Software Engineering and Intelligence and Security Studies. The approval letter was signed for the NUC Executive Secretary by Abubakar M. Girei, Director of Academic Planning, after a resource verification visit that checked ESUT’s staff and facilities.

  • Approval is not accreditation: approval lets ESUT start the programme. Accreditation is a separate NUC visit that normally comes once the first students are in the later years. Until then the programme has no accreditation result, good or bad.
  • Full-time only: the approval covers the full-time mode. ESUT must get further NUC approval before it runs part-time or postgraduate versions, so do not pay for a part-time Cyber Security programme at ESUT unless the NUC has approved it.
  • First cohort: the 2026/2027 intake is the first. That means new staff, new course files and no senior students in the department to learn from.

Being in a pioneer set is a real trade-off. Lecturers and the university have every reason to make a new programme work, and you can get closer attention than in a crowded department. On the other hand, timetables, lab space and course outlines can shift in the first years, and you will graduate before employers know the name of the degree. I would not avoid the course for that reason alone, but you should go in knowing it.

Did 2026 candidates choose Cyber Security on JAMB?

The NUC approval came in July 2026, months after 2026 UTME registration. So most 2026 candidates could not have picked ESUT Cyber Security when they registered. ESUT’s advert listed the new programmes for screening, which suggests candidates came in through another course choice or a JAMB change of course, but ESUT has not published how it handled this. If you are in that position, the offer on JAMB CAPS is what counts: check that the course on CAPS reads Cyber Security before you accept and pay anything.

If you are registering for the 2027 UTME, look for Cyber Security under ESUT on JAMB’s registration list or e-brochure. If it is listed, choose it directly. If it is not, choose ESUT Computer Science or another course with the same subjects, and ask ESUT’s admissions office about a change of course before screening.

Safe target score for Cyber Security at ESUT (my advice)

This is my judgement, not an ESUT rule. Cyber Security has a strong pull because of the jobs attached to it, but as a first-year programme it may not yet be widely known among candidates. I would still prepare as though it is as competitive as Computer Science.

Your 2026 UTME scoreMy read for ESUT Cyber Security
200 to 214Eligible for screening. Uncertain; keep a backup on CAPS.
215 to 229Possible, especially with strong Mathematics and Physics grades.
230 to 249A good chance.
250 and aboveComfortable. This is the range I would aim for.

For a 2027 attempt my safe target for ESUT Cyber Security is 235 or more, with at least B grades in Mathematics and Physics.

Catchment and state of origin

ESUT does not publish a catchment list. It is owned by the Enugu State Government, so Enugu indigenes are its primary catchment, but it admits candidates from every state. The federal 45/35/20 merit, catchment and ELDS split has not been stated as ESUT policy, so do not plan around it.

JAMB subject combination and O’level requirements for ESUT Cyber Security

RequirementCyber Security
UTME subjectsUse of English, Mathematics, Physics and one of Biology, Chemistry, Agricultural Science, Economics or Geography
O’levelFive credits including English Language, Mathematics and Physics, plus two other science subjects
SittingsNot stated in ESUT’s advert. Two sittings is the common ceiling
Direct EntryUsually two A’level passes in science subjects including Mathematics, or NCE merit in Mathematics and one other Science or Social Science subject. ESUT has not published its own DE grades
Special requirementsNone published by ESUT

This is JAMB’s usual combination for computing degrees. The JAMB brochure entry for Cyber Security (Myschool reprint, checked 29 October 2026) gives this general combination. Its special remarks name FUD, FUTA, AFIT, BUK, NDA, Al-Hikmah and Caleb, but not ESUT, so the general rule should apply. ESUT’s advert gives no course-level subjects, and JAMB may not yet show an ESUT entry for a programme approved in July 2026, so confirm on JAMB’s e-brochure before you register.

Chemistry is my pick for the fourth subject. A few universities insist on it for computing courses, and it keeps Computer Science and Computer Engineering open if you change course later.

How ESUT screening works for Cyber Security

ESUT ran its 2026/2027 screening on these terms.

DetailESUT 2026/2027 screening
Who could applyCandidates who chose ESUT in the 2026 UTME, and candidates who did not choose ESUT but changed institution to ESUT through JAMB first
Score neededThe minimum UTME score ESUT set for the course (see the table above)
Direct EntryScreened online too; former institutions must verify and clear DE candidates on JAMB e-facility

Admission statusPublished on the ESUT portal and JAMB CAPS

ESUT has not published an aggregate formula. The 2026/2027 advert sets a minimum UTME score per course and an online screening with no test, and it says nothing about weights or O’level grade points. So the only arithmetic you can do with official figures is to check how far you are above your course’s minimum. Some blogs quote a Post-UTME percentage for ESUT; that cannot be right for 2026/2027, because there was no Post-UTME test to score.

ESUT Cyber Security aggregate breakdown

Since ESUT has no published formula, the honest breakdown has two parts. The first is official: how far your UTME score sits above 200. The second is a comparison tool: the 50:50 UTME and O’level method that some other Nigerian universities use, applied to typical scores. Use the table to see how O’level grades can shift your position. It does not predict ESUT’s decision.

UTME scoreAbove ESUT minimum (official)UTME ÷ 8 (out of 50)With O’level 40/50With O’level 45/50
2000256570
2151526.8866.8871.88
2303028.7568.7573.75
2454530.6370.6375.63
2606032.572.577.5

O’level points on this method: A1 = 10, B2 = 9, B3 = 8, C4 = 7, C5 = 6, C6 = 5, over five subjects. 40 out of 50 is roughly an A1, B2, B3, C4 and C5 spread; 45 is mostly A and B grades. Read across a row: five extra O’level points are worth as much as 40 UTME marks on this method. That is why I keep telling candidates not to ignore their WAEC grades.

Worked example for a Cyber Security candidate

Take Kelechi, who scored 242 in the 2026 UTME with B2, B3, B3, C4 and C5 in five O’level subjects.

  1. Eligibility check (official): 242 minus the 200 minimum = 42 marks above the line.
  2. UTME half (illustrative method): 242 ÷ 8 = 30.25 out of 50.
  3. O’level half (illustrative method): 9 + 8 + 8 + 7 + 6 = 38 out of 50.
  4. Illustrative total: 30.25 + 38 = 68.25 out of 100.

Uchenna scored 226 with A1, A1, B2, B3 and B3. That gives 28.25 + 45 = 73.25 on the same illustrative method, ahead of Kelechi despite a 16-mark gap in JAMB. If ESUT ranks on UTME alone, the higher JAMB score wins. ESUT has not said which approach it uses, so a strong UTME and clean O’level grades both matter.

To see why your O’level grades can still matter, here is a method some other Nigerian universities use: half the aggregate from the UTME (your score divided by 8, out of 50) and half from five O’level subjects (A1 = 10, B2 = 9, B3 = 8, C4 = 7, C5 = 6, C6 = 5, out of 50). ESUT has not published this or any other formula. I use it only to compare two candidates, never to predict an ESUT cut-off.

How to apply for Cyber Security at ESUT, step by step

  1. Get your JAMB profile code: text NIN, a space and your 11-digit NIN (for example NIN 12345678901) to 55019 or 66019 from the phone number linked to your NIN. JAMB replies with the profile code you need to buy the UTME form.
  2. Register the UTME with the right subjects: pick Use of English, Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry (or another allowed fourth subject) and choose ESUT and Cyber Security. ESUT’s 2026 advert also let candidates who chose another school apply after a JAMB change of institution, but choosing ESUT from the start saves you that step and its cost.
  3. Upload your O’level to CAPS: once your WAEC, NECO or NABTEB result is out, have it uploaded to your JAMB profile at an accredited CBT centre or JAMB office. ESUT’s advert makes this compulsory for every candidate, and a result that is missing on CAPS can hold your admission back even after ESUT picks you.
  4. Open the ESUT screening form: go to portal.esut.edu.ng, select the session, and under Regular Students open the Admission Screening Registration for that session (Direct Entry has its own form). Enter your JAMB registration number and fill the details form to generate an invoice.
  5. Pay ₦2,000: pay at a commercial bank through Enugu State IGR Pay Direct with the printed invoice and its reference number, or pay online with a debit card.
  6. Finish and print: return to the portal, re-enter your JAMB registration number, complete the form, confirm and submit, then print the acknowledgement slip. ESUT warns that false information leads to disqualification.
  7. Check and accept on CAPS: log in at efacility.jamb.gov.ng, choose Check Admission Status, then Access my CAPS and Admission Status. If ESUT has offered you Cyber Security, accept it, then print your JAMB admission letter.
  8. Pay the acceptance fee on the ESUT portal: blogs report ESUT’s acceptance fee at about ₦26,000 (₦26,100 in some reports). ESUT’s 2026/2027 notices I checked do not state it, so confirm the amount on the portal before you pay, and keep the receipt for clearance.

Warning

Paying ESUT’s acceptance fee does not accept your JAMB offer. Accept the admission on JAMB CAPS first, because an offer left unaccepted on CAPS can be withdrawn, and ESUT cannot register you without it.

Myschool reported that ESUT’s 2026/2027 admission list went up on JAMB CAPS on 13 October 2026. JAMB gives four weeks to accept an offer and told public universities to finish admissions by 31 October 2026. If ESUT offers you another course, such as Computer Science, Intelligence and Security Studies or Data Science, it shows on CAPS as a separate offer. Myschool also reported ESUT change of course and transfer forms for 2026/2027 on 28 October 2026; I have not seen their terms.

If a CAPS status confuses you, our JAMB CAPS guide explains each one. Candidates who chose another school can read the JAMB change of institution guide, and if you plan to sit the UTME again, start with when JAMB 2027 registration starts.

Studying Cyber Security at ESUT

Cyber Security sits in ESUT’s Faculty of Physical Sciences in the 2026/2027 advert. It is a full-time B.Sc. and, like other Nigerian science degrees, usually runs for four years. ESUT’s main campus is at Agbani, Nkanu West, Enugu State; the notices I checked do not say where the new department is housed, so confirm at clearance.

Do not confuse it with Intelligence and Security Studies, which ESUT also started in 2026/2027. That one sits in the Faculty of Social Sciences and deals with security policy and intelligence work, not computer systems. Both share the 200 minimum.

ESUT has not published its Cyber Security course outline. Under the NUC’s standards for computing degrees, a cyber security programme usually covers the following. Take it as the usual shape, not ESUT’s official list.

  • Computing base: programming, data structures, operating systems, computer architecture and discrete mathematics.
  • Networks: network protocols, network security, firewalls and wireless security.
  • Core security: cryptography, secure software development, access control and identity management.
  • Attack and defence: ethical hacking and penetration testing, malware analysis, incident response and digital forensics.
  • Law and policy: cyber law, including Nigeria’s Cybercrimes Act, data protection and security governance.
  • Industrial training and project: a SIWES placement and a final-year project.

Career paths after Cyber Security

  • Security operations centre (SOC) analyst.
  • Penetration tester or ethical hacker.
  • Network and systems security administrator.
  • Digital forensics and incident response roles, including with law enforcement.
  • Governance, risk and compliance roles in banks, fintechs and telecoms.

Employers in this field look closely at certifications and hands-on practice, so plan to build both alongside the degree.

Mistakes Cyber Security applicants make

  • Mixing up Cyber Security and Intelligence and Security Studies: they are in different faculties and teach different things.
  • Ignoring O’level grades: as the breakdown shows, they can outweigh a large UTME gap on a 50:50 method.
  • Paying for a part-time version: the NUC approval covers full-time study only.
  • Accepting the wrong course on CAPS: check the course name before you accept.
  • Paying acceptance before accepting on CAPS: the CAPS acceptance comes first.

ESUT Cyber Security cut off mark: frequently asked questions

What is the aggregate for Cyber Security in ESUT? ESUT has not published an aggregate formula or an aggregate cut-off for Cyber Security. The only official figure is the 200 minimum UTME score for screening.

Is 230 enough for Cyber Security in ESUT? 230 is 30 marks above the 200 minimum, which I would call a good chance for a first intake. Strong Mathematics and Physics grades make it safer.

Is ESUT Cyber Security accredited? Not yet. The NUC approved it to start in 2026/2027, and accreditation normally follows once the first students reach the later years.

Can I use awaiting result for ESUT Cyber Security? Yes, for 2026/2027 ESUT accepted awaiting May/June 2026 WAEC, NECO and NABTEB results, but not results released after 30 September 2026.

The national minimum of 150, the 31 October 2026 admission deadline and the four-week CAPS acceptance window come from the News Agency of Nigeria, 11 May 2026. The release of the 2026/2027 admission list on CAPS on 13 October 2026 is from a Myschool report. ESUT’s faculty-level NUC accreditation is from the Enugu State Government, 21 May 2025. The NUC approval and its full-time limit are from a Premium Times press release republished by AllAfrica on 16 to 17 July 2026. The UTME, O’level and Direct Entry requirements are the general JAMB brochure entry for Cyber Security as reprinted by Myschool, which has no ESUT remark. The aggregate table uses an illustrative method from other universities, not an ESUT formula. The course content is the usual shape of a cyber security degree, since ESUT has not published its outline. The acceptance fee of about ₦26,000 is from education blogs (Legit.ng, O3schools, Backtoschool) and is unofficial. ESUT has not published an aggregate formula, a catchment list or a post-screening departmental cut-off, so none appears here as fact. This page was checked on 29 October 2026 and will be updated if ESUT releases new figures.
