Gregory University Physics Cut-Off Mark 2027/2028 and Admission Requirements

The Gregory University cut off mark for Physics is not published as a separate figure. Gregory set 140 as the general minimum UTME score in its 2024/2025 and 2025/2026 notices, but JAMB’s minimum for universities in 2026 is 150, so plan for at least 150 and aim for about 160 to 170. Physics is on JAMB’s list of Gregory courses under that name, so register it as Physics. On accreditation, I could not find any NUC result for Gregory’s Physics programme, so its NUC status is not confirmed; ask the university for its NUC letter before you pay. The nearest Physics programme with a published NUC result is at Abia State University, also in Uturu.

2027/2028 update: Gregory University cut-off marks usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the figures on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They come from the latest notices Gregory has published (2024/2025 and 2025/2026) and JAMB’s 2026 national minimum, because no 2026/2027 Gregory notice with a score was available. If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.

Gregory has never published a separate figure for Physics. The 140 applied to every course in both notices. JAMB raised the floor for universities to 150 at its May 2026 policy meeting, so no Gregory notice can admit anyone below 150 for 2026 admissions, and I would not expect the 2027 floor to drop back. Plan with 150 as the line you must cross, and treat anything above it as your margin for the course itself.

Safe target score for Physics at Gregory (my advice)

Pure Physics attracts fewer applicants than health and engineering courses at most private universities, so the bar above JAMB’s floor is usually lower. The table is my judgement, not a Gregory rule.

UTME subject combination and O’level for Gregory Physics

These rules come from the JAMB brochure entry for Physics as reprinted by Myschool. Many universities on that page drop Biology and insist on Physics, Mathematics and Chemistry in the UTME. Gregory is not one of them, so the general line lets you choose Chemistry or Biology as the fourth subject.

One O’level remark on the page is credited to “GOUU”, an abbreviation the brochure does not expand. It asks for five credits at not more than two sittings in English, Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics and Biology. I cannot tell whether it refers to Gregory, so the safe move is simple: make Biology your fifth science credit. That satisfies both the general line and that remark.

Chemistry is the trap. Even if you sit Biology in the UTME, the general O’level line still lists Chemistry among your five credits.

How Gregory University screening works for Physics

Gregory runs an online post-UTME registration. The details below come from the university’s 2024 notice and the 2025/2026 notice as reprinted by Myschool. Gregory had not published 2026/2027 dates or a fee in any source I could reach, so treat the fee as last year’s figure.

Worked example for a Physics candidate

Gregory has not published how it ranks candidates, so there is no official aggregate to calculate. What you can work out is how far your UTME score sits above JAMB’s floor and above a sensible target, and whether your O’level meets the course rules. The method below is my illustration, not a Gregory formula.

Take Emeka, who scored 166 with English, Physics, Mathematics and Chemistry, and has B3 in Physics, B2 in Mathematics, C4 in Chemistry, C5 in Biology and C6 in English Language from one sitting.

1. National floor: 166 minus 150 = 16.
2. Against my safe target: 166 sits inside the 160 to 170 band.
3. O’level check: English, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and Biology. That meets the general line and the GOUU remark.
4. What I would advise: register early and keep Physics as the course.

Ngozi scored 171 with English, Physics, Mathematics and Biology, which is a valid UTME combination. Her O’level has only a pass in Chemistry. The score is enough; the missing Chemistry credit is what will hold her back.

How to apply for Physics at Gregory University, step by step

1. Get your JAMB profile code: text NIN, a space and your 11-digit NIN to 55019 or 66019 from the phone line linked to your NIN.
2. Register the UTME correctly: pick Physics as the course and Use of English, Physics, Mathematics and Chemistry or Biology as your subjects, with Gregory University, Uturu as your first choice.
3. Fix your choice if needed: if Gregory was not your first choice, do a JAMB change of institution before you register for screening. The 2025/2026 notice was for candidates who chose Gregory first.
4. Upload your O’level to CAPS: at a JAMB-accredited CBT centre, once your WAEC, NECO or NABTEB result is out. Universities cannot recommend you on CAPS without it.
5. Register for screening: on the Gregory post-UTME portal, fill the form, upload your passport photograph (PDF), UTME result and O’level result, then pay the screening fee online.
6. Watch CAPS: log in at efacility.jamb.gov.ng, open Check Admission Status and then Access my CAPS. Our JAMB CAPS guide explains each status.
7. Accept on CAPS: accept the offer, print your JAMB admission letter, then follow Gregory’s instructions for the acceptance fee and clearance. Gregory has not published its acceptance fee in any source I reached, so confirm the amount on the official portal before paying.

For the 2026/2027 cycle, JAMB set 30 November 2026 as the admission deadline for private universities, according to the News Agency of Nigeria (11 May 2026). JAMB also stated that admissions done outside CAPS are illegal. Gregory’s phone lines on its 2024 admission notice were 0806 094 4681 and 0803 733 3920.

Studying Physics at Gregory University

Gregory University is a private university licensed in 2012 and sited at Amaokwe Achara, Uturu, in Isuikwuato Local Government Area of Abia State. Its founder is Prof. Gregory Ikechukwu Ibe. The university lists twelve colleges and says it runs over 55 programmes.

Physics sits in Gregory’s College of Natural and Applied Sciences, with Biochemistry, Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Mathematics and Microbiology. Gregory has not published the duration; a B.Sc in Physics in Nigeria normally takes four years.

NUC accreditation

NUC publishes a report page for each programme it visits. Pages exist for several Gregory courses from the late 2024 exercise, including Accounting, Medical Laboratory Science and English, but I found none for Gregory Physics. The Gregory section of NUC’s Accreditation Results 1990 to 2025 publication could not be read. Treat Gregory Physics’s NUC status as not confirmed and ask the department for its latest NUC letter. A programme with denied accreditation cannot admit new students.

Abia State University’s Physics programme shows full accreditation in NUC’s results publication, with a maturity date of 2026, which means its next visit is due. If you have Biology as well, Gregory’s Medical Laboratory Science (full NUC accreditation, 91.60%, visit 22 November 2024) takes Physics, Chemistry and Biology in the UTME, though it is far more competitive.

What you study

• Core physics: mechanics, electricity and magnetism, waves and optics, thermal physics.
• Modern physics: atomic and nuclear physics, quantum mechanics and solid state physics.
• Tools: mathematical methods, electronics, computational physics and laboratory practicals.
• Final year: a research project and options that vary by department.

This is the usual shape of a Nigerian B.Sc Physics; Gregory has not published its own course list.

Gregory University Physics cut off mark: FAQs

Can I use Biology instead of Chemistry in JAMB for Physics at Gregory? Yes. The general rule allows Chemistry or Biology as the fourth subject and no remark limits Gregory. You still need a Chemistry credit at O’level.

Is Physics at Gregory University accredited? I could not confirm it. NUC has report pages for several Gregory programmes but none for Physics, so ask the university for its NUC letter before paying.

Do I need Further Mathematics for Physics at Gregory University? No. Further Mathematics is one option for the fifth science credit; Biology or Agricultural Science also count under the general line, and Biology is the safest choice.

What is the post-UTME form fee for Gregory University? It was ₦2,000 in 2025/2026, paid online with an ATM card. Gregory had not published a 2026/2027 fee in any source I reached.
