FUAHSE Speech Therapy Cut-Off Mark 2027/2028 and Admission Requirements

FUAHSE set 170 as the cut-off mark for Speech Therapy. See the official list, a safe target, JAMB subjects, O’level rules, screening, CAPS steps and what is still unconfirmed about NUC and MRTB.

The FUAHSE Speech Therapy cut-off mark is 170 in the UTME. The Federal University of Allied Health Sciences, Enugu (FUAHSE) put Speech Therapy in the 170 group of its official 2026/2027 UTME admission cut-off list, together with Community Health and Health Information. That is 60 marks below Physiotherapy (230) in the same faculty.

2027/2028 update: FUAHSE cut-off marks usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the figures on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They come from the latest official notice (2026/2027). If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.

Speech therapy degrees are scarce in Nigeria, which makes FUAHSE’s course interesting. It is also new, so here is what I could and could not verify on 30 October 2026:

  • FUAHSE’s own list: yes. Speech Therapy is on the official 2026/2027 cut-off page at 170 (listed there as “Speech Therapy”).
  • NUC approval: not confirmed for this course. It was not among the first 16 programmes NUC approved in December 2024, and it was not one of the three courses named when the Vice-Chancellor said in May 2026 that 11 newer programmes had been approved.
  • JAMB: not confirmed. JAMB’s brochure has a university entry called Speech Language Therapy with no FUAHSE remark, and I could not open JAMB’s list of FUAHSE courses.
  • Professional regulator: the Medical Rehabilitation Therapists Board (MRTB) regulates speech therapy, but I found no MRTB record naming FUAHSE.

If you want a backup in the same field, the established options are rehabilitation degrees: UNN Medical Rehabilitation (160 to apply in 2026/2027) and FUAHSE’s own Occupational Therapy (180). UNIMED in Ondo also runs a Department of Audiology and Speech Therapy.

Check before you pay

Before you pay an acceptance fee for Speech Therapy at FUAHSE, ask the admissions office in writing whether NUC has approved the course and whether it appears on JAMB CAPS under FUAHSE. Pay only through an invoice from eportal.fuahse.edu.ng, and only after the offer shows on CAPS.

2026/2027 was the first session with a Speech Therapy cut-off at FUAHSE. Very few candidates know the course exists yet, which probably explains why FUAHSE set it lower than Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy and Prosthetics and Orthotics. As awareness grows, I would expect the line to rise, not fall.

All FUAHSE cut-off marks for 2026/2027

170Speech Therapy, Community Health, Health Information
150Human Anatomy, Physiology, Biochemistry, Microbiology

Within the Faculty of Rehabilitative Health the spread is wide: Physiotherapy 230, Prosthetics and Orthotics 200, Occupational Therapy 180 and Speech Therapy 170. All four use the same science subjects, so a candidate who misses Physiotherapy can still land in one of the others.

Safe target score for Speech Therapy at FUAHSE (my advice)

FUAHSE does not publish the score of its last admitted candidate. These ranges are my judgement.

Your UTME scoreMy read for FUAHSE Speech Therapy
Below 170Not eligible; consider FUAHSE’s 150 courses or UNN Medical Rehabilitation if you cleared 160
170 to 179Eligible, near the line
180 to 199Competitive with good Biology and English grades
200 and aboveStrong

For the 2027 UTME, I would aim for at least 185, ideally 195. The risk to a 170 to 180 candidate is crowding from above: FUAHSE can offer Speech Therapy to applicants who missed Physiotherapy or Occupational Therapy, and they arrive with higher scores.

Catchment and quota

FUAHSE has not published a catchment list or a quota for Speech Therapy. Plan on merit.

UTME subject combination and O’level for FUAHSE Speech Therapy

RequirementSpeech Language Therapy (JAMB general entry)
UTME subjectsUse of English, Chemistry, Physics, Biology
O’levelFive credits: English Language, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Mathematics
Direct Entry (JAMB brochure)Three A’level passes including Chemistry, Biology or Zoology, and Physics
Direct Entry (FUAHSE notice)ND, HND or first degree plus relevant O’level credits
SittingsNot stated by FUAHSE

This is JAMB’s entry for Speech Language Therapy, reprinted by Myschool and read on 30 October 2026. It has no special remarks and no list of schools. Do not drop Physics: the course studies how sound and hearing work, and the entry asks for it at both UTME and O’level.

Course name to pick on JAMB: JAMB’s brochure lists this course as Speech Language Therapy, and FUAHSE’s cut-off page calls it Speech Therapy. I could not open JAMB’s own list of FUAHSE courses (the Myschool reprint would not load for me), so I can’t confirm that the course appears under FUAHSE on JAMB’s portal or exactly how it is spelt there. FUAHSE’s 2026/2027 Post-UTME form took JAMB registration numbers, so the course was meant to run through JAMB, but the exact listing is worth checking. At registration, ask the centre to show FUAHSE’s course options on screen. If the course is not there, do not pick a look-alike; choose another course or school and plan a change of course once FUAHSE confirms the course is on JAMB’s list.

Worked example for a Speech Therapy candidate

Without a published aggregate formula, compare your score with the 170 cut-off and with my safe target.

Take Nkiruka, who scored 188 with B2 in English, B3 in Biology, B3 in Chemistry, C4 in Physics and C4 in Mathematics, all in one sitting.

  1. Eligibility: 188 minus 170 = 18. She clears the Speech Therapy cut-off by 18 marks.
  2. Against my safe target: 188 minus 185 = 3. She is competitive, though below my ideal of 195.
  3. O’level check: English, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology at credit level in one sitting, uploaded to CAPS.
  4. Status check: before accepting she asks FUAHSE to confirm NUC approval and MRTB plans in writing.

Uche scored 164. 164 minus 170 = minus 6, so he misses Speech Therapy. He clears FUAHSE’s 150 line for Human Anatomy and Physiology and UNN’s 160 screening line.

How to apply for Speech Therapy at FUAHSE, step by step

  1. Get your JAMB profile code: send NIN, a space and your 11-digit NIN to 55019 or 66019 from the phone line linked to your NIN.
  2. Register for the UTME: choose FUAHSE and Speech Therapy (or the name FUAHSE confirms on JAMB’s portal), with Use of English, Physics, Chemistry and Biology. If FUAHSE was not your choice, do a JAMB change of institution before its screening form opens.
  3. Upload your O’level on CAPS: do it at a JAMB-accredited centre, early. Universities read your grades from CAPS.
  4. Fill the FUAHSE screening form: go to eportal.fuahse.edu.ng and open the Post-UTME application form for the session. UTME candidates enter their JAMB registration number; Direct Entry candidates start with a phone number. Blogs reported a fee of ₦2,000 for 2026/2027; the invoice the portal generates is what counts.
  5. Print your slip and keep checking: FUAHSE has not published whether it holds a test, so watch the portal and the official admissions page after you submit.
  6. Check your status: use FUAHSE’s admission status page and JAMB CAPS. An offer is only real once it appears on CAPS.
  7. Accept on CAPS: log in at efacility.jamb.gov.ng, open Check Admission Status, then Access my CAPS, and accept. JAMB gives candidates four weeks to accept or reject an offer.
  8. Pay acceptance and clear: FUAHSE has not published its acceptance fee in any source I reached. Pay only through an invoice generated on the FUAHSE e-portal, and keep every receipt for clearance.

FUAHSE’s admissions page also warns that fake admission information about the university circulates on Facebook. Use only fuahse.edu.ng/admissions and the e-portal, and treat an offer as real only when it shows on JAMB CAPS. In July 2025 the management said that giving or collecting money for admission is forbidden, as Myschool reported.

FUAHSE is a federal university, so its 2026/2027 admissions fell under the deadline JAMB set for public universities. JAMB set 31 October 2026 as the 2026/2027 deadline for public universities (News Agency of Nigeria, 11 May 2026). JAMB announces each year’s deadlines at its annual policy meeting, so the 2027/2028 date will come from the 2027 meeting. I found no report of when FUAHSE uploaded its 2026/2027 list. If you applied in 2026, CAPS is where your result shows, and our JAMB CAPS guide explains each status.

Studying Speech Therapy at FUAHSE

FUAHSE’s Faculty of Rehabilitative Health page lists Physiotherapy, Prosthetics and Orthotics and Speech Therapy; Occupational Therapy appears in the faculty menus too. FUAHSE’s own introduction page says the university was established on 14 March 2024 from the former Federal College of Dental Technology and Therapy, has six faculties, and plans for its graduates to leave with a bachelor’s degree plus a professional diploma in an entrepreneurial venture. FUAHSE has not published the course duration. At UNIMED, the audiology side of its Audiology and Speech Therapy department describes a five-year programme.

Is FUAHSE Speech Therapy approved?

  • March 2024: the Federal Government approved the upgrade of the Federal College of Dental Technology and Therapy, Trans-Ekulu, into FUAHSE.
  • October 2024: an NUC team began checking 18 of the 22 programmes FUAHSE’s Senate had approved for take-off in 2024/2025, using NUC’s Core Curriculum Minimum Academic Standards as the yardstick (The Sun, 31 October 2024).
  • December 2024: FUAHSE announced NUC approval for its first 16 degree programmes. Speech Therapy was not on that list, and it was not in the 2025/2026 intake either.
  • May 2026: the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. John Emaimo, said NUC approval now covered 27 programmes: the original 16 plus 11 newer ones. The report named only Biotechnology, Artificial Intelligence and Software Engineering among the 11. Speech Therapy was not named (The Sun, 9 May 2026).
  • 2026/2027: FUAHSE’s official cut-off list carries 28 courses, the original 16 plus 12 newer ones. That is one more than the 27 approvals the Vice-Chancellor described.

The course is on FUAHSE’s official list, but no public source I found names it as NUC-approved. It may be one of the eight unnamed newer approvals, or the one course that the count of 27 does not cover. Ask for the approval letter or a written confirmation.

MRTB and your licence

The Medical Rehabilitation Therapists Board lists the professions it regulates, and Speech Therapy is one of them, next to Physiotherapy, Occupational Therapy, Clinical Audiology and Prosthetics and Orthotics. UNIMED’s department page says its graduates can be certified by the MRTB. A new programme normally gets its professional accreditation visit once students reach the clinical years, and I found no MRTB record that names FUAHSE yet. Ask the department when it expects that visit.

What you study

  • Basic medical sciences: anatomy and physiology of the head, neck, ears and brain.
  • Speech and language science: phonetics, linguistics and how children develop language.
  • Disorders: stammering, voice problems, delayed speech, language loss after stroke and swallowing difficulties.
  • Hearing: basic audiology and hearing assessment.
  • Clinical work: supervised therapy sessions in hospitals, special schools and rehabilitation centres.

That outline describes speech therapy training in general; FUAHSE has not released its own course list.

Careers

Speech therapists work in teaching hospitals, rehabilitation centres, special education schools, autism centres and private practice. Nigeria trains very few of them, so qualified graduates should find work, but check the MRTB question first, because unlicensed graduates cannot practise.

For UTME revision, start with our JAMB Biology syllabus and JAMB Chemistry syllabus, then read when JAMB 2027 registration starts and what to do with your JAMB score if you are planning a fresh attempt in 2027.

FUAHSE Speech Therapy or another rehabilitation course?

Option2026/2027 figureWhat to weigh
FUAHSE Speech Therapy170 (course cut-off)New course; NUC approval and MRTB record not confirmed
FUAHSE Occupational Therapy180 (course cut-off)Also new; approval not confirmed
FUAHSE Physiotherapy230 (course cut-off)Among the first 16 NUC-approved programmes
UNN Medical Rehabilitation160 to applyLong-running physiotherapy degree in Enugu State
UNIMED Audiology and Speech TherapyNot checkedOndo City; established department

My view: if you are set on speech therapy, FUAHSE is the nearest option for a South East candidate, and 170 is a reachable line. Get the approval question answered in writing before you accept. If you mainly want a rehabilitation career, UNN’s established physiotherapy degree is the safer choice.

Mistakes that cost Speech Therapy applicants

  • Leaving out Physics: JAMB’s entry asks for Physics, Chemistry and Biology.
  • Thinking 170 means easy: candidates who miss Physiotherapy can end up competing for these seats.
  • Missing the course on JAMB: check FUAHSE’s options on screen when you register.
  • Paying before the offer is on CAPS: FUAHSE has warned about fake Facebook posts and admission racketeering.

FUAHSE Speech Therapy cut-off mark: frequently asked questions
