The Renaissance University Industrial Physics cut off mark is 150 in the UTME. Renaissance University (RNU), Ugbawka, publishes one minimum score for every programme it runs in 2026/2027, and that minimum is the same as JAMB’s national minimum for universities. RNU has not published a separate, higher figure for Industrial Physics.
2027/2028 update: RNU cut-off marks usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the figures on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They come from the latest official notice (2026/2027). If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.
Industrial Physics is RNU’s physics degree, offered in the Faculty of Natural and Applied Sciences. It is on RNU’s programme list and on JAMB’s course list for RNU under that name. The JAMB brochure has two RNU remarks for this course, one of which is unusual, and I explain both below. You will also find the official figures, a safe target score (my advice), screening, fees and the CAPS steps.
Is Industrial Physics on RNU’s JAMB course list?
Yes. It is on both lists that decide whether RNU can admit you into it: RNU’s own programme list and JAMB’s course list for RNU.
| Check | Result for Industrial Physics | Where I checked |
|---|---|---|
| RNU’s current programme list | Listed | RNU undergraduate page, Direct Entry page and tuition schedule (checked 30 October 2026) |
| JAMB course list for RNU | Listed as “Industrial Physics” | Myschool’s reprint of JAMB’s institution course list (checked 30 October 2026) |
| Name to register on JAMB | Industrial Physics, with Renaissance University as first choice | Pick the exact name JAMB’s portal shows under RNU |
When you register, choose Renaissance University first and then pick Industrial Physics from the course drop-down that JAMB shows for RNU. If the name on the portal ever looks different from the one above, use the portal’s version, because CAPS matches you by that exact course.

RNU Industrial Physics cut-off history
| Session | Figure | What it is | Status |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2026/2027 | 150 | RNU minimum JAMB score for every programme, including Industrial Physics | Official (RNU undergraduate page, FAQ and admission announcement) |
| 2026/2027 | 150 | JAMB national minimum for universities | Official (JAMB policy meeting, 11 May 2026) |
| 2026/2027 | Not published | Separate departmental cut-off for Industrial Physics | RNU says some programmes may need more than 150 but gives no figure |
| 2025/2026 | Not confirmed | RNU figure for that session | Blogs print numbers, but I found no RNU notice behind them |
RNU was not on the list of institution cut-offs announced at JAMB’s 2026 policy meeting, so its own pages are the only official source for the 150. The 2026/2027 announcement also says candidates who scored 150 or more in the 2023 and 2024 JAMB examinations can apply. That line looks carried over from an older notice, so if you plan to use an old UTME result, ask Admissions before you pay anything.
Safe target score for Industrial Physics at RNU (my advice)
This is my judgement as an admissions adviser. RNU has not published these bands.
| Your UTME score | My read for Industrial Physics at RNU |
|---|---|
| Below 150 | Not eligible for RNU this session |
| 150 to 169 | Eligible. Fair chance if all five O’level credits are in place |
| 170 to 199 | Comfortable |
| 200 and above | Strong, and it keeps public universities open as a backup |
Industrial Physics is rarely oversubscribed at private universities and has no council quota at admission level. The 150 minimum and the right O’level usually settle it. Because RNU’s FAQ says some programmes may need more than 150, I would still aim for 175 or more.
UTME subject combination and O’level for RNU Industrial Physics
| Requirement | Industrial Physics at RNU |
|---|---|
| UTME subjects | Use of English, Physics, Mathematics, and Chemistry or Biology (JAMB brochure) |
| O’level (JAMB general) | Five credits in English Language, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and one of Further Mathematics, Biology or Agricultural Science |
| O’level (RNU remark in the brochure) | Five credits at not more than two sittings including English, Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics and Biology |
| O’level (RNU table) | Same five: English, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology |
| Awaiting results | No RNU rule published; ask Admissions |
| Post-UTME | None published |
Physics and Mathematics are both compulsory in the UTME. The fourth subject is Chemistry or Biology; I would pick Chemistry, since the degree leans on it more in the first two years.
At O’level, JAMB’s general line lets the fifth subject be Further Mathematics, Biology or Agricultural Science. RNU narrows that to Biology. A candidate with Further Mathematics but no Biology meets JAMB’s line and still falls short of RNU’s, so get a Biology credit.
Direct Entry into Industrial Physics at RNU
RNU’s Direct Entry page lists Industrial Physics among the programmes open to Direct Entry. It gives one set of rules for all courses:
| Qualification | RNU’s stated minimum |
|---|---|
| A’level (Cambridge, JUPEB or IJMB) | At least two passes in relevant subjects |
| ND or HND | At least Lower Credit from a recognised institution |
| NCE | At least merit in a related field |
| Also required | O’level result, passport photographs and JAMB Direct Entry registration for the current year |
JAMB’s general Direct Entry line is two A’level passes in Physics and Mathematics. The brochure also prints an RNU Direct Entry remark asking for an O’level credit in Further Mathematics. RNU’s own Direct Entry page says nothing about Further Mathematics, and very few Nigerian schools teach it, so this may be an old or mistaken entry. Even so, if you are coming in by Direct Entry, ask Admissions in writing whether they apply it before you register.
Does RNU write Post-UTME for Industrial Physics?
RNU’s official pages describe a free online application and a document check. None of them mention a Post-UTME test, a screening fee or an aggregate formula. The Direct Entry page says applicants may be asked to attend an interview or bring more documents, so treat any call from Admissions seriously. Every offer still has to go through JAMB CAPS, which means your score, subjects and uploaded O’level must all line up.
Worked example (illustrative)
RNU has no published aggregate, so this example checks eligibility and the money needed before resumption, using RNU’s own figures. Take Kelechi, who scored 168 with English, Physics, Mathematics and Chemistry, and has credits in English, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology across two WAEC sittings.
- Score check: 168 minus 150 = 18. He clears RNU’s minimum by 18 marks.
- UTME check: Physics, Mathematics and Chemistry match JAMB’s line.
- O’level check: five credits including Biology, in two sittings, which RNU allows.
- Money before resumption on three instalments: 50% of ₦1,800,000 = ₦900,000, plus ₦50,000 acceptance = ₦950,000.
- Money before resumption on four instalments: 40% of ₦1,800,000 = ₦720,000, plus ₦50,000 acceptance = ₦770,000.
Amaka scored 182 with the same UTME subjects, and her fifth O’level credit is Further Mathematics instead of Biology. JAMB’s general line accepts that, but RNU’s remark names Biology. She should add a Biology credit before clearance or get written confirmation from Admissions that Further Mathematics will do.
RNU Industrial Physics acceptance fee and school fees
| Item | Industrial Physics at RNU | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Application fee | None | RNU FAQ and tuition schedule |
| Acceptance fee | ₦50,000 | RNU FAQ and tuition schedule |
| Session fee | ₦1,800,000 | RNU tuition schedule; the 2026/2027 announcement gives ₦1,800,000 for programmes it doesn’t name separately |
| What it covers | Tuition, accommodation and three meals a day | RNU tuition schedule and FAQ |
| Instalments | Three (50%, 20%, 30%) or four (40%, 20%, 20%, 20%) | RNU FAQ |
| Hostel | Compulsory; no more than three to a room; no cooking | RNU FAQ |
Industrial Physics is in RNU’s ₦1,800,000 band with Biochemistry, Microbiology, Industrial Chemistry, Nursing and Law. The computing degrees and Medical Laboratory Science are cheaper at ₦1,600,000, and History and International Studies and Mass Communication sit at ₦1,500,000. The tuition schedule doesn’t name a session, so confirm the current figure with the Bursar before you pay.
Your chances of getting Industrial Physics at RNU
RNU does not publish applicant numbers or totals by course. Physics-based degrees draw fewer applicants than the health and computing courses at most private universities, so a candidate who meets the 150 minimum and RNU’s O’level set normally stands a good chance. That is my judgement, not an RNU figure.
Industrial Physics shares Physics and Mathematics with Computer Science and Software Engineering. If you are torn between them, note that the computing degrees cost ₦1,600,000 at RNU against ₦1,800,000 here, and decide before you register so your UTME subjects suit your first choice.
JAMB set 30 November 2026 as the 2026/2027 admission deadline for private universities, as reported by the News Agency of Nigeria on 11 May 2026. That date belongs to the current cycle. For 2027/2028, JAMB will set a fresh date at its next policy meeting, so register early and keep RNU as first choice.
How to apply for Industrial Physics at RNU, step by step
- Get your JAMB profile code: send NIN, a space and your 11-digit NIN to 55019 or 66019 from the line linked to your NIN.
- Register the right subjects: Use of English plus Physics, Mathematics, and Chemistry or Biology. Choose Renaissance University first and pick Industrial Physics. If you chose another school, RNU says you must do a JAMB change of institution before it can admit you.
- Upload your O’level to CAPS: RNU lists this as part of its own process, and its on-campus JAMB CBT centre handles O’level upload, change of institution and CAPS acceptance for a small charge.
- Fill the RNU online form: go to rnu.edu.ng/admissions/regular_admission and choose Industrial Physics. There is no application fee, and you can also apply in person at the Admissions Office in Ugbawka.
- Answer any follow-up from Admissions: keep your phone on. RNU publishes no test, but it may ask for an interview or more documents.
- Accept the offer on CAPS: log in at efacility.jamb.gov.ng, open Check Admission Status, then Access my CAPS. Accept only when the offer shows RNU and Industrial Physics. Our JAMB CAPS guide explains each status.
- Pay acceptance and the first instalment: ₦50,000 acceptance, then the first instalment of the session fee. Pay only into the university account shown on rnu.edu.ng and confirm with the Bursar.
- Clear with your documents: O’level result, four passport photographs, JAMB result, birth certificate, local government identification letter or certificate of origin, NIN slip, fee receipts, and A’level result for Direct Entry.
Warning
RNU charges no application fee. Anyone who asks you to pay for an RNU form, or promises a guaranteed Industrial Physics slot for money, is not acting for the university. A genuine offer shows on your JAMB CAPS page, and fees go only into the account shown on rnu.edu.ng, confirmed with the Bursar.
Studying Industrial Physics at Renaissance University
Industrial Physics is a B.Sc. in RNU’s Faculty of Natural and Applied Sciences in Ugbawka, Nkanu East Local Government Area of Enugu State. The NUC licensed RNU in 2005. The degree normally runs four years for UTME entrants in Nigeria; RNU’s pages don’t state the duration.
On accreditation, RNU’s pages say its courses are accredited by the NUC but don’t give a result for each course. I searched the NUC’s published programme reports and found none that names RNU for Industrial Physics, and the NUC’s 1990 to 2025 results file can’t be read as far down as RNU. In June 2024 the NUC fully re-accredited five RNU programmes (Law, Economics, History and International Studies, Computer Science and Accounting), according to a Myschoolnews report of 30 July 2024; Industrial Physics was not one of them. So the NUC status of Industrial Physics at RNU is not confirmed here. Ask Admissions for it in writing before you pay acceptance.
What you study
- Foundations: mechanics, electricity and magnetism, mathematics and chemistry.
- Core physics: quantum and atomic physics, thermodynamics, optics, solid state and electromagnetism.
- Industrial side: electronics, instrumentation, renewable energy, materials and computational physics.
- Final stages: industrial training (SIWES) and a project, often built around a device or measurement system.
That outline is how Industrial Physics degrees in Nigeria are usually built; RNU has not published its own course list.
Careers
Graduates work in electronics and instrumentation, telecoms, power and renewable energy, oil and gas services, manufacturing quality control, meteorology and teaching. Some move into software or data work, where the mathematics in this degree helps.

Mistakes that cost Industrial Physics applicants an RNU place
- Dropping Mathematics or Physics in the UTME: both are compulsory.
- Further Mathematics in place of Biology at O’level: JAMB allows it, but RNU’s remark names Biology.
- Ignoring the Direct Entry remark: ask whether RNU wants a Further Mathematics credit before you register.
- Paying an agent for a form: RNU’s form is free.
- RNU not first choice: fix it with a change of institution before RNU starts proposing admissions.
- Accepting on CAPS and stopping there: acceptance fee and clearance at Ugbawka still follow.
