The ESUT cut off mark for Accountancy for 2026/2027 is 180 in the 2026 UTME. Enugu State University of Science and Technology named Accountancy in the 180 band of its official Post-UTME advert of 4 July 2026, with Business Administration, Mass Communication and a handful of other courses. A score of 180 or more, ESUT as your institution and the right subjects made you eligible for its online screening.
2027/2028 update: ESUT cut-off marks usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the figures on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They come from the latest official notice (2026/2027). If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.
180 is the minimum to apply. It is not the score that got people admitted, and ESUT does not publish that final merit score for Accountancy or any other course. Accountancy is one of only three Management Sciences courses ESUT placed above the general 160 band (with Business Administration and Mass Communication), so this guide gives you the official figure, the history I could trace, a safe target score clearly marked as my advice, the JAMB subjects and O’level rules, a worked example of how screening treats your score, the CAPS steps and where the degree leads.
ESUT cut off mark for Accountancy 2027/2028 at a glance
| Item | 2026/2027 position | Status |
|---|---|---|
| JAMB national minimum for universities | 150 | Official (JAMB policy meeting, 11 May 2026) |
| ESUT minimum UTME for Accountancy | 180 | Official (ESUT Post-UTME advert, 4 July 2026; Accountancy named at 180) |
| ESUT final admission (merit) score for Accountancy | Not published | ESUT does not release one |
| Post-UTME test | None | Online screening only |
| Screening fee | ₦2,000 | Official |
| Faculty | Management Sciences | ESUT 2026/2027 advert |
| UTME subjects | English, Mathematics, Economics + one Social Science subject | JAMB brochure (Myschool reprint) |
| Admission list | On JAMB CAPS from 13 October 2026 | Myschool report |
Keep the two numbers apart. The minimum UTME score is the gate ESUT announces before screening; below it, the portal will not take your application for that course. The merit score is the lowest score actually admitted into the course after screening, and ESUT does not announce it. Most of the confusion online about “ESUT departmental cut-off marks” comes from treating the first as the second.
Accountancy cut-off history at ESUT
| Session | Figure | What it is | Status |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2026/2027 | 180 | Minimum UTME to apply (Accountancy named) | Official ESUT advert |
| 2025/2026 | 180 | Minimum UTME to apply (“Accounting” in the 180 group) | Previous year, from a blog summary of ESUT’s notice |
| 2025 (as labelled) | 246 | Blog “cut-off” with no ESUT document cited | Unofficial (Legit.ng) |
| Any year | Not published | Final merit score for Accountancy | No ESUT list found |
Accountancy sat in ESUT’s 180 group in both years I could trace, while most Management Sciences courses stayed at 160. That gap tells you ESUT expects more pressure on Accountancy than on Banking and Finance, Marketing or Insurance. Bands can move from one session to the next, so use the 2025/2026 row as history and check the new advert when ESUT releases it.
Legit.ng lists “Accounting 246” as an ESUT cut-off for 2025. The page cites no ESUT document and mixes this figure with a general 160, so I treat it as unofficial. It may reflect roughly where admitted candidates landed, or it may not; nobody outside ESUT can confirm it. Do not plan around it as an ESUT rule, but do read it as a warning that 180 alone is thin for this course.
Safe target score for Accountancy at ESUT (my advice)
This is my advice, not an ESUT rule. Accountancy pulls many of the strongest commercial students in the South East, and it is a common first choice for candidates who also apply to UNN, UNIZIK and other nearby schools. ESUT held no test in 2026/2027, so you cannot make up ground after the UTME.
| Your UTME score | My read for ESUT Accountancy |
|---|---|
| 180 to 199 | Eligible for screening, but many applicants will be ahead of you. Expect CAPS to suggest another course. |
| 200 to 219 | A fair chance if your O’level grades in English, Mathematics and Economics are strong. |
| 220 to 239 | A good chance. |
| 240 and above | Comfortable for Accountancy at ESUT on present patterns. |
For a 2027 attempt, my safe target for ESUT Accountancy is 230 or more, with credits (better still, B grades) in English, Mathematics and Economics. If you land between 180 and 210, keep Banking and Finance or Business Administration in mind as a fallback within the same faculty.
Catchment and state of origin
ESUT has not published a catchment list. It is owned by the Enugu State Government, so Enugu indigenes are its primary catchment, but it admits candidates from every state. The 45/35/20 merit, catchment and ELDS split you may have read about is federal university policy, and ESUT has not said it applies it. If you are from outside Enugu, plan to win on your score and grades rather than on state of origin.
JAMB subject combination and O’level requirements for ESUT Accountancy
| Requirement | Accountancy |
|---|---|
| UTME subjects | Use of English, Mathematics, Economics and one Social Science subject |
| O’level | Five credits: English Language, Mathematics, Economics and two other subjects |
| NBC holders | The two other subjects may be Principles of Accounts, Commerce, Office Practice or Secretarial Duties |
| Sittings | Not stated in ESUT’s advert; most universities allow up to two. Confirm on JAMB’s e-brochure |
| Direct Entry | Two A’level passes from Economics, Accounting, Business Management, Government and Geography (general rule); a brochure remark also requires ESUT’s DE applicants to meet the UTME requirements |
| Special requirements | None published by ESUT (no interview or aptitude test) |
These come from the JAMB brochure entry for Accountancy/Accounting as reprinted by Myschool (checked 29 October 2026). I found no ESUT remark on the UTME or O’level lines, so the general rule applies. For the fourth UTME subject, most candidates use Government, Commerce or Financial Accounting (Principles of Accounts). Check on the JAMB e-brochure that your choice counts as a Social Science subject before you register.
One Direct Entry remark names “ESUTECH” together with UNIZIK and says DE applicants must also meet the UTME requirements. That abbreviation appears to mean ESUT. In practice it means your O’level must already carry the credits listed above, including Mathematics and Economics, before an ND or A’level result helps you.
ESUT’s own advert only says Direct Entry candidates are screened online and must be cleared on JAMB e-facility by their former institutions. It does not list the ND or HND grade it accepts for Accountancy, so confirm with the department before you apply.
How ESUT screening works for Accountancy
These were the 2026/2027 screening terms in ESUT’s advert. The window has closed for this session, but they show you what to prepare for 2027.
| Detail | ESUT 2026/2027 screening |
|---|---|
| Who could apply | Candidates who chose ESUT in the 2026 UTME, and candidates who did not choose ESUT but changed institution to ESUT through JAMB first |
| Score needed | The minimum UTME score ESUT set for the course (see the table above) |
| Direct Entry | Screened online too; former institutions must verify and clear DE candidates on JAMB e-facility |
| Registration window | Tuesday 7 July to Saturday 15 August 2026 (closed) |
| Fee | ₦2,000, paid at a bank through Enugu State IGR Pay Direct or online by debit card |
| Test | None. Screening is online only, with no physical screening and no aptitude test |
| Awaiting results | Allowed for May/June 2026 WAEC, NECO and NABTEB, but results released after 30 September 2026 are not accepted |
| O’level upload | Every candidate must upload O’level results on JAMB CAPS |
| Names | Must match on your O’level certificates, UTME result and other documents |
| Admission status | Published on the ESUT portal and JAMB CAPS |
ESUT has not published an aggregate formula. The 2026/2027 advert sets a minimum UTME score per course and an online screening with no test, and it says nothing about weights or O’level grade points. So the only arithmetic you can do with official figures is to check how far you are above your course’s minimum. Some blogs quote a Post-UTME percentage for ESUT; that cannot be right for 2026/2027, because there was no Post-UTME test to score.
Worked example for a Accountancy candidate
Take Adaeze, who scored 228 in the 2026 UTME with B2, B3, B3, C4 and C5 in English, Mathematics, Economics, Commerce and Government.
- Eligibility check (official): 228 minus the 180 minimum = 48 marks above the line.
- UTME half (illustrative method): 228 ÷ 8 = 28.50 out of 50.
- O’level half (illustrative method): 9 + 8 + 8 + 7 + 6 = 38 out of 50.
- Illustrative total: 28.50 + 38 = 66.50 out of 100.
Emeka scored 250 but has C4, C5, C5, C6 and C6. His illustrative total is 31.25 + 29 = 60.25, behind Adaeze. If ESUT ranks on UTME alone, Emeka leads. ESUT has not said which approach it uses, so the safe plan is to push both your score and your grades.
To see why your O’level grades can still matter, here is a method some other Nigerian universities use: half the aggregate from the UTME (your score divided by 8, out of 50) and half from five O’level subjects (A1 = 10, B2 = 9, B3 = 8, C4 = 7, C5 = 6, C6 = 5, out of 50). ESUT has not published this or any other formula. I use it only to compare two candidates, never to predict an ESUT cut-off.
How to apply for Accountancy at ESUT, step by step
- Get your JAMB profile code: text NIN, a space and your 11-digit NIN (for example NIN 12345678901) to 55019 or 66019 from the phone number linked to your NIN. JAMB replies with the profile code you need to buy the UTME form.
- Register the UTME with the right subjects: pick Use of English, Mathematics, Economics and one Social Science subject such as Government or Commerce and choose ESUT and Accountancy. ESUT’s 2026 advert also let candidates who chose another school apply after a JAMB change of institution, but choosing ESUT from the start saves you that step and its cost.
- Upload your O’level to CAPS: once your WAEC, NECO or NABTEB result is out, have it uploaded to your JAMB profile at an accredited CBT centre or JAMB office. ESUT’s advert makes this compulsory for every candidate, and a result that is missing on CAPS can hold your admission back even after ESUT picks you.
- Open the ESUT screening form: go to portal.esut.edu.ng, select the session, and under Regular Students open the Admission Screening Registration for that session (Direct Entry has its own form). Enter your JAMB registration number and fill the details form to generate an invoice.
- Pay ₦2,000: pay at a commercial bank through Enugu State IGR Pay Direct with the printed invoice and its reference number, or pay online with a debit card.
- Finish and print: return to the portal, re-enter your JAMB registration number, complete the form, confirm and submit, then print the acknowledgement slip. ESUT warns that false information leads to disqualification.
- Check and accept on CAPS: log in at efacility.jamb.gov.ng, choose Check Admission Status, then Access my CAPS and Admission Status. If ESUT has offered you Accountancy, accept it, then print your JAMB admission letter.
- Pay the acceptance fee on the ESUT portal: blogs report ESUT’s acceptance fee at about ₦26,000 (₦26,100 in some reports). ESUT’s 2026/2027 notices I checked do not state it, so confirm the amount on the portal before you pay, and keep the receipt for clearance.
Warning
Paying ESUT’s acceptance fee does not accept your JAMB offer. Accept the admission on JAMB CAPS first, because an offer left unaccepted on CAPS can be withdrawn, and ESUT cannot register you without it.
ESUT’s 2026/2027 admission list appeared on JAMB CAPS on 13 October 2026, Myschool reported. JAMB gave candidates four weeks to accept an offer and set 31 October 2026 as the end of admissions for public universities. Myschool also reported on 28 October 2026 that ESUT had released change of course and transfer forms for 2026/2027. I have not read their terms, so check the portal if CAPS shows a course other than the one you applied for.
If a CAPS status confuses you, our JAMB CAPS guide explains each one. Candidates who chose another school can read the JAMB change of institution guide, and if you plan to sit the UTME again, start with when JAMB 2027 registration starts.
Studying Accountancy at ESUT
Accountancy is in ESUT’s Faculty of Management Sciences, alongside Accountancy, Banking and Finance, Business Administration, Co-operative Economics and Management, Insurance and Risk Management, Marketing, Mass Communication and Public Administration. ESUT’s main campus is at Agbani in Nkanu West Local Government Area, Enugu State. The pages I checked do not confirm where the faculty’s buildings sit, so treat Agbani as the likely base and confirm when you resume. Nigerian B.Sc. programmes in this field run for four years for UTME entrants. Direct Entry candidates start at 200 level and finish in three.
Accountancy at ESUT trains you to record, report, audit and interpret financial information for businesses and government. The first year leans on economics, mathematics and business basics; the later years are mostly accounting. Expect areas like these:
- Financial accounting and reporting: books of account, final accounts and company financial statements under IFRS.
- Cost and management accounting: costing, budgeting and decision tools for managers.
- Auditing and assurance: internal controls, audit procedures and audit reports.
- Taxation: personal and company income tax and other Nigerian taxes.
- Public sector accounting and financial management: government accounts, budgeting and corporate finance.
- Business law, quantitative methods and computer accounting packages.
- Industrial training (SIWES) and a final-year research project.
Accreditation: After the National Universities Commission’s 2024 exercise, ESUT reported full accreditation for programmes in its Faculties of Law, Engineering, Sciences, Environmental Science, Education and Administration (Enugu State Government, 21 May 2025). “Administration” appears to mean the faculty ESUT’s 2026/2027 advert calls Management Sciences, but the report names faculties, not programmes, and gives no grade for Accountancy on its own. I found no programme-level result, so ask the department to confirm its NUC status when you go for clearance.
Career paths after Accountancy
- Audit and assurance roles in accounting firms, often the first job for new graduates.
- Accountant or finance officer in companies, banks, NGOs and state and local government.
- Tax practice, with firms or with revenue agencies such as the Federal Inland Revenue Service and the Enugu State Internal Revenue Service.
- Treasury, credit and finance roles in banks and microfinance banks.
- Professional qualifications: most graduates write ICAN (Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria) or ANAN (Association of National Accountants of Nigeria) exams, and some take ACCA. Check each body’s current exemptions for ESUT graduates when you finish.
- Postgraduate study in accounting, finance or business administration.

Mistakes Accountancy applicants make
- Treating 180 as the admission score: it only lets you apply; admitted candidates in Accountancy usually sit well above it.
- Missing the Economics credit: the brochure requires Economics in both the UTME and O’level.
- Choosing a fourth UTME subject that is not a Social Science: confirm Government, Commerce or Financial Accounting counts before you register.
- Expecting a Post-UTME test to rescue a low score: ESUT’s 2026/2027 screening had no test, so your UTME score and O’level do the work.
- Forgetting the CAPS upload: ESUT’s advert makes the O’level upload compulsory for every candidate.
- Late awaiting results: results released after 30 September 2026 were not accepted.
- Name mismatches: ESUT asks that names match across O’level certificates, the UTME result and other documents.
ESUT cut off mark for Accountancy: frequently asked questions
What is ESUT cut off mark for Accountancy 2026/2027? ESUT’s official minimum UTME score for Accountancy in 2026/2027 is 180. ESUT does not publish the final merit score, and I would aim for 230 or more to be safe.
Is 200 enough for Accountancy in ESUT? 200 clears the 180 minimum, so you could apply. It gives a fair chance with strong O’level grades, but Accountancy is crowded and many applicants score higher.
What subjects are needed for Accountancy in ESUT? Use of English, Mathematics, Economics and one Social Science subject in the UTME. For O’level you need five credits including English, Mathematics and Economics.
Can I use awaiting result for ESUT Accountancy screening? Yes. ESUT allowed May/June 2026 WAEC, NECO and NABTEB awaiting results, but results released after 30 September 2026 were not accepted.
