CCU History and Diplomatic Studies Cut-Off Mark 2027/2028 & Admission Requirements

Coal City University uses JAMB’s 150 minimum for History and Diplomatic Studies and has no departmental cut-off. See the UTME subjects, the Geography credit rule, Direct Entry, screening, a safe target score and the NUC position.

The CCU History and Diplomatic Studies cut-off mark is 150 in the UTME, JAMB’s minimum for all Nigerian universities for 2026/2027. Coal City University, Enugu has not published a departmental cut-off for History and Diplomatic Studies, and it did not declare its own figure at the JAMB 2026 policy meeting. A score of 150 or more, the right UTME subjects and complete O’level credits make you eligible.

2027/2028 update: CCU cut-off marks usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the figures on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They come from the latest official notice (2026/2027). If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.

History and Diplomatic Studies appears on JAMB’s course list for Coal City University under exactly that name, History and Diplomatic Studies, and CCU’s Faculty of Arts, Social and Management Sciences lists it among its degree programmes. The O’level rule for this course has one surprise (Geography), which I explain below, together with the subject combination, screening, a worked example, a safe target score, the CAPS steps and the NUC position.

Safe target score for History and Diplomatic Studies at CCU (my advice)

This table is my judgement as an admissions adviser. CCU does not publish the lowest score it admits. History and Diplomatic Studies is a moderate-demand course, and many candidates who wanted International Relations end up applying for it, so I would not sit right on the floor.

Your UTME scoreMy read for CCU History and Diplomatic Studies
Below 150Not eligible through UTME; CCU’s JUPEB route is the fallback
150 to 164Eligible; a fair chance with complete O’level and an early application
165 to 189Comfortable
190 and aboveStrong; UNN and ESUT (160 each) are open to you too

For a 2027 candidate I would aim for at least 165.

UTME subject combination and O’level for History and Diplomatic Studies at CCU

The JAMB brochure entry has no CCU-specific remark, so the general rules below apply.

RequirementHistory and Diplomatic Studies at CCU
JAMB course name to registerHistory and Diplomatic Studies (Coal City University)
UTME subjectsUse of English, History or Government, and any two other Arts or Social Science subjects
O’levelFive credits including English Language, Geography, and Government or History
Exams acceptedWAEC, NECO or NABTEB (CCU has not published its own list)
SittingsNot stated by CCU
Direct EntryTwo A-level passes, or NCE at upper credit, in History or Government and a related subject

Choosing your UTME subjects

History or Government must be one of the three. Many secondary schools no longer teach History, which is why JAMB accepts Government in its place. A practical combination is English, Government, CRS and Literature in English, or Government with Economics and Geography if you come from a commercial or mixed class. If International Relations at CCU is your backup, Government is the subject to carry, since it fits both courses.

The Geography credit

JAMB’s general O’level rule for this course names Geography alongside English Language and Government or History. Many arts students do not take Geography, and this catches them at clearance. CCU has not put its own course-by-course O’level list online, so I can’t tell you whether it waives Geography. If you lack a Geography credit, ask CCU’s admissions office before you register, or plan to sit Geography in a NECO or WAEC GCE.

What about Mathematics?

The general rule for this course does not name Mathematics. Most private universities still expect at least a pass, and a credit keeps more courses open to you. I would treat a Mathematics credit as part of your five if you have one.

Direct Entry

A Direct Entry candidate needs two A-level passes (JUPEB or IJMB are common), or an NCE at upper credit, with History or Government among them. CCU advertised JUPEB, IJMB and pre-degree forms for 2026/2027, so a candidate who misses the UTME score can still enter through CCU’s own JUPEB programme.

How CCU screens History and Diplomatic Studies applicants

CCU has not published its 2026/2027 screening details in any source I could reach.

Worked example (illustrative)

With no published aggregate, the numbers that count are your margin over the minimum and over my target, and whether your O’level passes the rule.

Take Chidera, who scored 168 with English, Government, CRS and Literature. Her WAEC (one sitting) has B3 in English Language, C4 in Mathematics, B2 in Government, C5 in Geography, B3 in CRS and C6 in Literature.

  1. Eligibility: 168 minus 150 = 18 above JAMB’s minimum.
  2. Against my target: 168 minus 165 = 3 above it.
  3. O’level check: English Language, Geography and Government all at credit, plus two more credits. She qualifies.
  4. Next step: apply early on the CCU portal, upload her O’level to CAPS and accept quickly once CCU proposes her.

Compare Emeka, who scored 181 but has no Geography result at all. His score is better, yet he does not meet JAMB’s general O’level rule for this course. Before paying for the CCU form, he should get a written answer from CCU on Geography, or switch to a course whose O’level rule he meets.

Admission odds and advice

  • Score is seldom the barrier: at a 150 floor, documents decide more cases than scores do.
  • Check Geography now: it is the credit arts students most often lack for this course.
  • Make CCU first choice: if you chose another school, use JAMB change of institution before CCU proposes candidates.
  • Mind the dates: JAMB set 30 November 2026 as the 2026/2027 deadline for private universities, and the overall 2026/2027 admission exercise runs until 31 December 2026.

Who this course at CCU suits

I would recommend it to a candidate scoring between 150 and 165 who enjoys history, politics and current affairs and wants to study in Enugu city. If you scored 180 or more and money is tight, UNN and ESUT cost less and are worth trying first. If your real interest is diplomacy, compare it with CCU’s International Relations degree, which has its own NUC result.

How to apply for History and Diplomatic Studies at CCU, step by step

  1. Get your JAMB profile code: send NIN, a space and your 11-digit NIN to 55019 or 66019 from the line linked to your NIN.
  2. Register the UTME: choose Coal City University and “History and Diplomatic Studies”, with English, History or Government and two other Arts or Social Science subjects.
  3. Upload your O’level to CAPS: use a JAMB-accredited centre as soon as your result is out.
  4. Fill the CCU form: go to portal.ccu.edu.ng, create the invoice, pay the fee shown and print the form.
  5. Follow screening news: check the portal and ccu.edu.ng, since no 2026/2027 dates were published.
  6. Accept on CAPS: log in at efacility.jamb.gov.ng, go to Check Admission Status, then Access my CAPS, and accept within JAMB’s four-week window. Our JAMB CAPS guide explains each status.
  7. Pay acceptance and clear: CCU’s acceptance and tuition fees were not published in any source I could reach; pay only against a CCU portal invoice.

Before you pay

Every genuine CCU admission appears on JAMB CAPS, and JAMB treats admissions outside CAPS as illegal. Pay only against an invoice from portal.ccu.edu.ng and never pay an individual who promises you a CCU place.

Studying History and Diplomatic Studies at CCU

Is CCU History and Diplomatic Studies accredited?

What the official record shows:

  • CCU runs the course: it is on CCU’s arts and social sciences faculty page and on JAMB’s CCU list.
  • NUC result: the NUC’s “Accreditation Results 1990 to 2025” publication (September 2026) lists History and Diplomatic Studies under CCU’s Arts and Humanities programmes as Full, with a maturity date of 2024.
  • No later result yet: full accreditation lasts five years, so the course was due for its next NUC visit in 2024. The publication shows no newer line, and I found no NUC report page for it.

NUC visits and publications often run behind, so the gap may simply mean the result is not yet published. Still, ask CCU’s admissions office whether re-accreditation has taken place before you pay.

What you study

CCU has not put its course outline online. A Nigerian B.A. History and Diplomatic Studies usually runs for four years:

  • 100 level: introduction to African history, historical method, Nigerian peoples and cultures, use of English and general studies.
  • 200 and 300 levels: West African and Nigerian history, European and American history, theory and practice of diplomacy, international organisations, foreign policy, economic history and historiography.
  • 400 level: Nigeria’s foreign relations, contemporary international issues, conflict and peace studies, special topics and a long essay.

Careers

Graduates work in the foreign service and other public service jobs, teaching (with a postgraduate diploma in education), archives and museums, journalism, NGOs, international organisations, research, and administration in banks and private firms. Many also go on to Law or postgraduate study in international relations. In my experience, a second language such as French helps a lot for anyone aiming at diplomacy.

Mistakes that cost History applicants a CCU place

  • Neither History nor Government in the UTME: one of them is required.
  • No Geography credit with no answer from CCU about a waiver.
  • Registering a different course name: CCU’s JAMB course is “History and Diplomatic Studies”, not History and International Studies.
  • O’level not on CAPS when CCU starts proposing candidates.
  • Paying an agent instead of using the CCU portal.

For the 2027 UTME, see when JAMB 2027 registration starts, and if you need to switch courses later, our JAMB change of course guide.
