The CCU Insurance cut-off mark is 150 in the UTME, the minimum JAMB set for every Nigerian university at its 2026 policy meeting. Coal City University, Enugu has not published a separate Insurance figure, and it was not among the universities that declared their own cut-off at that meeting. Insurance also appears on JAMB’s course list for CCU, yet it is missing from every programme list CCU publishes itself.
2027/2028 update: CCU cut-off marks usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the figures on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They come from the latest official notice (2026/2027). If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.
Below you will find the JAMB name to register, the subject combination, the O’level rule and the CAPS steps in case CCU confirms it is admitting Insurance students, followed by where the programme is missing, what to ask CCU before you register, and which courses at CCU and elsewhere in Enugu are the safer choice if the answer is no.
Is Insurance running at Coal City University?
I checked every list I could find on 30 October 2026. Here is what each one shows.
| Source | Is Insurance listed? |
|---|---|
| JAMB’s course list for CCU (Myschool reprint of the brochure) | Yes, under the name “Insurance” |
| CCU Faculty of Arts, Social and Management Sciences page (last updated 31 August 2023) | No. The page names fifteen degree programmes and Insurance is not one of them |
| CCU “About CCU” page | No |
| CCU 2026/2027 admission advert (Myschool reprint, 18 May 2026) | Cannot tell. The reprint cuts off before this faculty’s list |
| NUC Accreditation Results 1990 to 2025 (published September 2026) | No Insurance entry under Coal City University |
The faculty page is the clearest evidence. It lists Accounting, Business Administration, Criminology and Security Studies, Economics, English and Literary Studies, History and Diplomatic Studies, International Relations, Marketing, Mass Communication, Political Science, Psychology, Public Administration, Religious Studies, Sociology and Taxation. Insurance only comes up in the dean’s profile: Professor Joseph Ifeanyi Aneke is a Professor of Insurance who previously headed the Insurance and Risk Management department at ESUT. That tells you the faculty has insurance expertise. It does not tell you CCU admits Insurance students.
A course can sit on a JAMB list because a university registered it at some point, even when it is not admitting into it. My advice is simple. Do not register Insurance at CCU until the admissions office confirms, in writing or on the portal’s course list, that it will admit Insurance students for 2027/2028. If it will not, pick one of the alternatives further down this page.
CCU Insurance cut-off mark at a glance
| Item | 2026/2027 position | Source or status |
|---|---|---|
| JAMB minimum for universities | 150 | JAMB 2026 policy meeting, 11 May 2026 |
| CCU’s own cut-off for Insurance | Not published | No CCU notice gives a departmental figure |
| Course on CCU’s JAMB list | Yes, as “Insurance” | Myschool reprint of JAMB’s CCU list, checked 30 October 2026 |
| Course on CCU’s own programme list | No | CCU faculty page and About page |
| UTME subjects | Use of English, Mathematics, Economics and one other subject | JAMB brochure (Myschool reprint) |
| O’level | Five credits: English, Mathematics, Economics and two of Accounting, Business Methods, Commerce, Government, Geography or Statistics | JAMB brochure |
| NUC accreditation | Not confirmed (no CCU entry) | NUC Accreditation Results 1990 to 2025 |
| 2026/2027 admission deadline for private universities | 30 November 2026 | JAMB, reported by NAN on 11 May 2026 |
CCU Insurance cut-off history
| Session | Figure | What it is | Status |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2026/2027 | 150 | JAMB national minimum for universities | Official (JAMB, 11 May 2026) |
| 2026/2027 | Not published | CCU’s own figure for Insurance | CCU did not declare one |
| 2025/2026 | 150 | JAMB national minimum for universities | Reported by Nairametrics, 8 July 2025 |
| 2025/2026 | Not published | CCU’s own figure | None found |
AbsTechConnect (25 May 2026) says CCU’s cut-off is 150. That matches the national minimum, but the blog cites no CCU notice, so read it as a restatement of JAMB’s floor.
Safe target score for Insurance at CCU (my advice)
CCU does not publish the score of the last candidate it admitted, so this is my judgement as an admissions adviser. Insurance is not a heavily contested course anywhere in the South East, and private universities in Enugu tend to admit close to the national minimum.
| Your UTME score | My read |
|---|---|
| Below 150 | Not eligible for any university this session |
| 150 to 169 | Eligible; fine for CCU if the course is running and your O’level is complete |
| 170 to 184 | Comfortable at CCU and enough for ESUT’s 160 screening floor |
| 185 and above | Strong. Gives you room to switch to Accounting or Economics if Insurance is not open |
For the 2027 UTME I would aim for at least 170. The extra marks matter less for CCU than for your fallback options, which is the point of aiming above the floor when a course’s status is unclear.
UTME subject combination and O’level for Insurance
The JAMB brochure entry for Insurance, as reprinted by Myschool and checked on 30 October 2026, carries no special remark for CCU, so the general rule applies.
| Requirement | Insurance (JAMB general rule) |
|---|---|
| JAMB course name to register | Insurance (Coal City University) |
| UTME subjects | Use of English, Mathematics, Economics and one other subject |
| O’level | Five credits including English Language, Mathematics and Economics, plus any two of Accounting, Business Methods, Commerce, Government, Geography or Statistics |
| Exams accepted | WAEC, NECO or NABTEB (CCU has not published its own list) |
| Sittings | Not stated by CCU; one sitting is safer |
| Direct Entry | Two A-level passes from Economics, Accounts, Business Management, Government, Geography or Statistics |
Choosing the fourth UTME subject
The brochure leaves the fourth subject open. I would take Government or Commerce if you are an arts or commercial student, because each also counts toward the O’level list above. Science students can use Physics or Biology; the University of Lagos remark in the same entry accepts those, which shows how wide the choice is in practice. Whatever you pick, Mathematics and Economics are fixed.
The O’level trap
Many applicants have English, Mathematics and Economics but fill the last two slots with Biology and Civic Education. The brochure’s general rule names a business or social science pair instead. If your fourth and fifth credits are sciences, ask CCU whether it will accept them before you pay for anything.
How CCU screening works
| Detail | What is known |
|---|---|
| Admission advert | CCU invited applications into its undergraduate programmes for 2026/2027 (Myschool reprint, 18 May 2026). The faculty’s programme list is cut off in the reprint, so I cannot confirm Insurance was advertised. |
| Application portal | portal.ccu.edu.ng (the “Apply Now” link on ccu.edu.ng) |
| Form fee | ₦2,000 according to AbsTechConnect (25 May 2026); CCU has not confirmed it in any source I could open |
| Screening date and format | Not published |
| Aggregate formula | Not published |
| Other routes | CCU also advertises JUPEB, IJMB and pre-degree forms for 2026/2027 |
| 2026/2027 deadline for private universities | 30 November 2026 (JAMB, reported by NAN on 11 May 2026) |
Worked example
CCU has not published an aggregate formula or a written test, so I will not invent one. What you can work out is your margin over the minimum and over my safe target.
Take Ebuka, who scored 172 with B3 in English, C4 in Mathematics, B2 in Economics, C5 in Commerce and C6 in Government in one WAEC sitting.
- Eligibility: 172 minus 150 = 22. He clears the national minimum by 22 marks.
- Against my safe target: 172 minus 170 = 2. Just inside the range I call comfortable.
- O’level check: English, Mathematics, Economics, plus Commerce and Government from the brochure’s list. All credits, one sitting.
- Course status: before registering Insurance, he asks CCU whether it is admitting. If not, his exact O’level also fits Accounting and Business Administration at CCU, and his 172 clears ESUT’s 160 for Insurance and Risk Management.
Admission odds and practical advice
- The course status matters more than your score: above 150 you meet CCU’s floor, but a JAMB registration for a course CCU is not running leaves you needing a change of course later.
- Ask the right question: request CCU’s 2027/2028 list of programmes open for admission and its NUC approval for Insurance. A clear yes is enough; a vague answer is a no.
- Make CCU your first choice only if it is confirmed: otherwise put ESUT or another option first and use a JAMB change of institution later if CCU confirms.
- Mind the deadline: JAMB set 30 November 2026 as the 2026/2027 deadline for private universities, so late admissions for this session have to be processed by then.
How to apply for Insurance at CCU, step by step
- Get your JAMB profile code: send NIN, a space and your 11-digit NIN to 55019 or 66019 from the phone line linked to your NIN.
- Confirm the course first: ask CCU’s admissions office whether Insurance is open for 2027/2028. If it is not, register Accounting, Business Administration or Economics instead, which take the same core subjects.
- Register the UTME correctly: choose Coal City University and the course “Insurance”, with Use of English, Mathematics, Economics and your fourth subject.
- Upload your O’level to CAPS: do it at a JAMB-accredited centre as soon as your result is out. CCU cannot recommend you for admission without it.
- Apply on the CCU portal: open portal.ccu.edu.ng, fill the undergraduate form, pay the fee the portal shows and print your slip.
- Watch for screening: CCU has not published a screening date or format, so check the portal and ccu.edu.ng after you apply.
- Accept on CAPS: log in to efacility.jamb.gov.ng, choose Check Admission Status and then Access my CAPS. JAMB gives four weeks to accept an offer. Our JAMB CAPS guide explains each status.
- Pay acceptance and clear: CCU has not published its acceptance or tuition fees in any source I could open, so pay only what your portal invoice shows, into the university’s account.
Warning
Forum and classified-site posts sell “CCU admission forms” and list private phone numbers. Apply only through portal.ccu.edu.ng, never pay an individual for a “slot”, and remember that every genuine offer must show on your JAMB CAPS page.
Studying Insurance: what to expect
Accreditation
NUC’s Accreditation Results 1990 to 2025 lists every programme it has accredited at Coal City University, from Accounting to Sociology, and Insurance is not among them. I also found no NUC report page for a CCU Insurance programme. So the accreditation status is not confirmed, and that is one more reason to get written confirmation before you register.
What you study
CCU has not published an Insurance course outline. A standard B.Sc. Insurance in Nigeria runs for four years and covers:
- 100 and 200 levels: principles of insurance, economics, business mathematics, accounting, statistics and general studies.
- 300 level: life and non-life insurance, risk management, insurance law, claims handling and an industrial placement (SIWES).
- 400 level: reinsurance, marine and aviation insurance, actuarial basics, pensions and a research project.
Careers
Graduates work as underwriters, claims officers, brokers, risk analysts and pension fund staff, or join banks with bancassurance units. NAICOM regulates the industry, and the Chartered Insurance Institute of Nigeria (CIIN) runs the professional exams most insurance staff take. Ask any university you choose whether its graduates get CIIN exemptions; I could not confirm one for CCU.

Mistakes that cost Insurance applicants
- Registering a course before checking it runs: fixing it later means a JAMB change of course and lost time.
- No Economics in the UTME: Mathematics and Economics are both fixed for Insurance.
- Science credits in the last two O’level slots: the brochure names business and social science subjects.
- O’level not uploaded to CAPS: no university can recommend you without it.
- Paying agents: CCU’s form is on its own portal; no one can sell you a place.

CCU Insurance cut-off mark: frequently asked questions
Does Coal City University offer Insurance? It is on JAMB’s course list for CCU, but CCU’s own faculty page and the NUC’s accreditation results do not list it. Ask CCU to confirm it is admitting Insurance students before you register it.
Is 155 enough for Insurance at CCU? Yes, 155 clears the 150 minimum, the only cut-off that applies to CCU. The real question is whether the course is open, not your score.
What subjects do I need for Insurance in JAMB? Use of English, Mathematics, Economics and one other subject. Your O’level needs English, Mathematics, Economics and two business or social science credits.
Can I study Insurance in Enugu if CCU is not admitting? Yes. ESUT runs Insurance and Risk Management with a 160 screening floor, and IMT runs an ND in Insurance from 100.

The 150 national minimum, the 30 November 2026 deadline for private universities and the four-week CAPS acceptance window come from JAMB’s 2026 policy meeting as reported by the News Agency of Nigeria on 11 May 2026; the 2025 figure is from Nairametrics (8 July 2025). CCU’s absence from the declared list is based on News Central’s list of 2026 university cut-offs (11 May 2026).
