The CCU Psychology cut-off mark is 150 in the UTME, JAMB’s minimum for every Nigerian university for 2026/2027. Coal City University, Enugu has not published a separate cut-off for Psychology and did not declare its own figure at JAMB’s 2026 policy meeting. With 150 or more you are eligible, and any higher “official CCU Psychology cut-off” you see online was not issued by the university.
2027/2028 update: CCU cut-off marks usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the figures on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They come from the latest official notice (2026/2027). If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.
Psychology is on JAMB’s list for Coal City University under the name Psychology, and CCU lists it among the degrees of its Faculty of Arts, Social and Management Sciences. It earned full NUC accreditation in the 2021 exercise. The subject combination is where Psychology applicants go wrong most often, because UNN, ESUT and Renaissance want Biology while CCU follows JAMB’s general Arts and Social Science rule. I explain that below, along with the O’level rule, screening, a safe target score and the CAPS steps.
CCU Psychology cut-off mark at a glance
| Item | 2026/2027 position | Source or status |
|---|---|---|
| JAMB minimum for universities | 150 | JAMB 2026 policy meeting, 11 May 2026 |
| CCU’s own cut-off for Psychology | Not published | No CCU notice gives a departmental figure |
| Course on CCU’s JAMB list | Yes, as “Psychology” | Myschool reprint of JAMB’s CCU list, checked 30 October 2026 |
| Course on CCU’s own programme list | Yes | CCU faculty page and About CCU page |
| UTME subjects | English and any three Arts or Social Science subjects | JAMB brochure general rule (no CCU remark) |
| O’level | Five credits including English and Government or History, plus at least a pass in Mathematics | JAMB brochure |
| NUC accreditation | Full, maturity date 2026 | NUC Accreditation Results 1990 to 2025 |
| 2026/2027 admission deadline for private universities | 30 November 2026 | JAMB, reported by NAN on 11 May 2026 |
CCU Psychology cut-off history
| Session | Figure | What it is | Status |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2026/2027 | 150 | JAMB national minimum for universities | Official (JAMB, 11 May 2026) |
| 2026/2027 | Not published | CCU’s own figure for Psychology | CCU did not declare one |
| 2025/2026 | 150 | JAMB national minimum for universities | Reported by Nairametrics, 8 July 2025 |
| 2025/2026 | Not published | CCU’s own figure | None found |
AbsTechConnect (25 May 2026) lists a CCU cut-off of 150 but gives no CCU source. Since it equals JAMB’s floor, it adds nothing to the official position.
Safe target score for Psychology at CCU (my advice)
CCU does not release the score of its last admitted Psychology candidate, so this is my judgement. Psychology has become one of the more requested social science courses in the South East, and each accredited programme has an NUC cap on numbers.
| Your UTME score | My read for CCU Psychology |
|---|---|
| Below 150 | Not eligible for any university this session |
| 150 to 164 | Eligible; possible with complete O’level and an early application |
| 165 to 189 | Good position for a private university |
| 190 and above | Strong |
My target for the 2027 UTME would be at least 175. That is 15 marks above the 160 screening line UNN and ESUT used in 2026, which gives you room if you later move your application to a public university.
UTME subject combination and O’level for Psychology at CCU
The JAMB brochure entry for Psychology (Myschool reprint, checked 30 October 2026) has a long list of remarks for other universities but none for Coal City University, so CCU follows the general rule.
| Requirement | Psychology at CCU |
|---|---|
| JAMB course name to register | Psychology (Coal City University) |
| UTME subjects | Use of English plus any three Arts or Social Science subjects, for example Government, Economics and Literature in English |
| O’level | Five credits including English Language, Government or History, and three other subjects |
| Mathematics | At least a pass under the general rule; I would still get a credit, since Psychology includes statistics and most universities now ask for one |
| Exams accepted | WAEC, NECO or NABTEB (CCU has not published its own list) |
| Direct Entry | Two A-level passes including Government or History |
Biology or no Biology?
This is the decision that trips people up. In the brochure, UNN wants Biology plus two other UTME subjects, ESUT wants Biology or Agricultural Science plus two Arts or Social Science subjects, and Renaissance University, also in Enugu, requires Biology. CCU has no such remark, so the general “three Arts or Social Science subjects” applies to it.
If CCU is the only school you are aiming for, I would register Government, Economics and one of Literature, CRS or Geography. If you want to keep UNN or ESUT open as well, the Biology route is what those schools ask for, and you should ask CCU’s admissions office whether it accepts Biology as one of your three subjects before you register. Our JAMB Biology syllabus helps if you go that way.
The O’level gap that catches people
The general rule names Government or History. Science-class students who chose Psychology late often have Biology, Chemistry and Physics but neither Government nor History. That fails the CCU rule even with a high score, so check your slip first.
How CCU screening works for Psychology
| Detail | What is known |
|---|---|
| Admission advert | CCU invited applications into its undergraduate programmes for 2026/2027 (Myschool reprint of the notice, 18 May 2026). Psychology is among the programmes CCU lists in its Faculty of Arts, Social and Management Sciences. |
| Who could apply | UTME candidates, Direct Entry applicants and transfer students (AbsTechConnect, May 2026; unofficial) |
| Application portal | portal.ccu.edu.ng (the “Apply Now” link on ccu.edu.ng) |
| Form fee | ₦2,000 according to AbsTechConnect; CCU has not confirmed it in any notice I could open |
| Screening date and format | Not published |
| Aggregate formula | Not published |
| Other routes | CCU also advertises JUPEB, IJMB and pre-degree for 2026/2027 |
Worked example for a Psychology candidate
CCU has not published an aggregate formula or test, so the useful sums are your margins.
Take Chiamaka, who scored 182 with English B2, Mathematics C4, Government B3, Economics C5 and Biology B3 in one WAEC sitting. She registered Government, Economics and Literature in English.
- Eligibility: 182 minus 150 = 32 marks above the minimum.
- Against my safe target: 182 minus 175 = 7 marks above the range I would aim for.
- O’level check: credits in English and Government plus three others, and a Mathematics credit. She meets the rule.
- My advice: apply early on the CCU portal, upload her result to CAPS, and keep CCU as first choice.
Now Ebuka, who scored 159 and has credits in English, Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry and Physics. His score is 9 above the minimum, but without Government or History he misses the O’level rule. He needs to add a Government credit in the November series before CCU screens.
Admission odds and practical advice
- Your O’level is the main filter: above 150, complete credits and an early application matter more at CCU than an extra ten marks.
- Quota limits are real: once the NUC cap for Psychology is filled, late applicants miss out whatever their score.
- Make CCU your first choice: if it is not, do a JAMB change of institution before admissions start.
- Keep a Plan B inside CCU: Sociology shares the same UTME rule and has the same accreditation status.
- Mind the 2026/2027 deadline: JAMB set 30 November 2026 for private universities to finish 2026/2027 admissions.
How to apply for Psychology at CCU, step by step
- Get your JAMB profile code: send NIN, a space and your 11-digit NIN to 55019 or 66019 from the phone line linked to your NIN.
- Register the UTME correctly: pick Coal City University and the course “Psychology”, with Use of English plus three Arts or Social Science subjects.
- Upload your O’level to CAPS: do it at a JAMB-accredited centre once your result is out. CCU cannot recommend you without it, and awaiting-result candidates stay stuck until the upload is done.
- Apply on the CCU portal: open portal.ccu.edu.ng, fill the undergraduate form, pay the fee the portal shows and print your slip.
- Watch for screening: CCU has not published a screening date or format for this course, so check the portal and ccu.edu.ng after you apply.
- Accept on CAPS: log in to efacility.jamb.gov.ng, choose Check Admission Status, then Access my CAPS, and accept the offer. JAMB gives four weeks to accept. Our JAMB CAPS guide explains each status.
- Pay acceptance and clear: CCU has not published its acceptance or tuition fees in any source I could open, so pay only what your portal invoice shows, through the channel on the portal.
Warning
Posts on forums and classified sites sell “CCU admission forms” and list private phone numbers. Apply only through portal.ccu.edu.ng, never pay an individual for a “slot”, and check that any offer shows on your JAMB CAPS page before you pay acceptance.
Studying Psychology at CCU
Psychology is part of CCU’s Faculty of Arts, Social and Management Sciences, set up in 2016 as one of the university’s first faculties. Professor Joseph I. Aneke is the dean. CCU got its operating licence from the Federal Government on 22 November 2016.
Accreditation
In April 2022 the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Afam Icha-Ituma, announced full NUC accreditation for six programmes after the October/November 2021 exercise, and Psychology was one of them. The NUC’s “Accreditation Results 1990 to 2025” publication (September 2026) lists Psychology under CCU’s Social Sciences as Full, maturity date 2026.
Full accreditation lasts five years, so Psychology is now due for its next visit. I found no newer NUC report. Re-accreditation every five years is routine, but a 2027 entrant should ask the department whether re-accreditation has been done.
What you study
CCU has not published its Psychology course outline. The standard four-year B.Sc. Psychology in Nigeria covers:
- 100 level: introduction to psychology, sociology, biology for social sciences, statistics basics and general studies.
- 200 and 300 levels: developmental, social, cognitive and abnormal psychology, physiological psychology, experimental methods, psychological testing and research statistics.
- 400 level: clinical, industrial and organisational, and counselling psychology, electives and a research project.
Careers
Graduates work in human resources, recruitment and training, counselling and social welfare, NGOs, schools, marketing research and the health sector. To practise as a clinical psychologist you need a postgraduate degree and supervised training after the B.Sc. I tell candidates this early because many choose Psychology expecting to be therapists straight from the first degree.

Mistakes that cost Psychology applicants a CCU place
- No Government or History at O’level: the general rule names one of them.
- Copying another school’s combination without checking: UNN’s Biology rule is not CCU’s rule. Confirm before you register, or use a JAMB change of course to fix it.
- O’level not on CAPS: CCU cannot recommend you without it.
- Ignoring Mathematics: a pass meets the general rule, but statistics runs through the degree.
- Paying agents: apply on the CCU portal only.
If you are preparing for the 2027 UTME, start with when JAMB 2027 registration starts.
CCU Psychology cut-off mark: frequently asked questions
Is 170 good for Psychology at Coal City University? Yes. 170 is 20 marks above the 150 minimum, and CCU has no higher Psychology cut-off. With complete O’level credits you are in a good position.
Do I need Biology in JAMB for Psychology at CCU? Not under the brochure, which has no CCU remark, so any three Arts or Social Science subjects apply. UNN, ESUT and Renaissance do require Biology.
Is Psychology at CCU accredited? Yes. It got full NUC accreditation from the 2021 exercise, and the NUC results list shows Full with a 2026 maturity date, which means re-accreditation falls due around now.
Can I use two sittings for Psychology at CCU? CCU has not published a sittings rule for Psychology. Two sittings are widely accepted for social sciences, but one sitting is safer, so confirm with CCU if you are combining results.
Sources and updates
The 150 national minimum, the 30 November 2026 admission deadline JAMB set for private universities in the 2026/2027 cycle and the four-week CAPS acceptance window come from JAMB’s 2026 policy meeting as reported by the News Agency of Nigeria on 11 May 2026; the 2025 figure is from Nairametrics (8 July 2025). CCU’s absence from the list of universities that declared their own 2026 cut-offs is based on News Central’s list (11 May 2026). The course name and subject rules come from Myschool’s reprint of JAMB’s CCU course list and the JAMB brochure entry for Psychology, both checked on 30 October 2026. CCU’s programme list, faculty history and dean are from its Faculty of Arts, Social and Management Sciences page and its About CCU page. The 2021 accreditation is from Myschool News (25 April 2022, reporting the Vice-Chancellor), and the status and maturity date are from the NUC Accreditation Results 1990 to 2025 publication. The comparison figures for UNN, ESUT, Renaissance and Peaceland come from their 2026/2027 notices as covered in our linked guides.
