The Spiritan University History and Diplomatic Studies cut-off mark is 150 in the UTME for 2026/2027. Spiritan University, Nneochi applies JAMB’s national minimum for universities and asks for “at least the National Cutoff Score”; it has not published a separate cut-off for History and Diplomatic Studies.
2027/2028 update: Spiritan University cut-off marks usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the figures on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They come from the latest official notice (2026/2027). If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.
Most applicants clear the score easily. The O’level is harder: the JAMB brochure for this course names Geography and History or Government among the required credits, and Spiritan’s own page makes Mathematics compulsory too. Below you will find the official figures, my safe target, the full subject rules, Direct Entry, how Spiritan takes applications, a worked example and an honest note on accreditation.

Spiritan History and Diplomatic Studies cut-off mark history
| Session | Figure | What it is | Status |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2026/2027 | 150 | JAMB minimum for universities, which Spiritan applies | Official (JAMB policy meeting, 11 May 2026) |

Spiritan sets no floor above JAMB’s for any arts course I could trace. The 2022 blog figure of 140 matches JAMB’s university minimum that year.
Safe target score for History and Diplomatic Studies at Spiritan (my advice)
Nothing in this section comes from Spiritan. It is my reading as an admissions adviser, based on how small private universities in the South-East usually fill their places.
| Your UTME score | My read for Spiritan History and Diplomatic Studies |
|---|---|
| Below 150 | Not eligible for a 2026/2027 university place anywhere, Spiritan included |
| 150 to 169 | Eligible. A place is realistic if your O’level credits are complete and you apply early |
| 170 to 189 | Comfortable for Spiritan, with room to spare if the university raises its bar |
| 190 and above | Strong. You can also compete for the same course at public universities |
For the 2027 UTME I would aim for 170 or more. Arts courses at small private universities rarely fill on score alone, so the target is lower than I would give for Accounting or Economics. What will hold you back is a missing O’level credit, so sort that first.
Subject combination and O’level for History and Diplomatic Studies at Spiritan
I checked the rules on Myschool’s reprint of the JAMB brochure for History and Diplomatic Studies. Its 15 institution-specific remarks cover six other universities and none mentions Spiritan, so the general rules apply. I have combined them with Spiritan’s own requirement of English and Mathematics for every programme.
| Requirement | History and Diplomatic Studies at Spiritan |
|---|---|
| Course name on JAMB | History and Diplomatic Studies |
| UTME subjects | Use of English, History or Government, and any two other Arts or Social Science subjects |
| O’level (brochure) | Five credits to include English Language, Geography and Government or History |
| O’level (Spiritan’s page) | English and Mathematics compulsory for every programme |
| Safest O’level set | English Language, Mathematics, Government or History, Geography and one more Arts or Social Science subject |
| Sittings | Not more than two |
| Direct Entry | Two A level passes, or NCE at upper credit, in History or Government and a related subject |
| Special Spiritan remark | None in the brochure |
Why Mathematics and Geography matter here
The brochure’s general O’level line for this course does not mention Mathematics, which leads some arts students to skip it. Spiritan’s admissions page is clear that English and Mathematics are needed for all its programmes, so you need both. Geography is the other trap: the brochure names it, and many arts students did not register it in WAEC. If you lack Geography, ask the department whether another Social Science credit will do before you pay for the form.
Good UTME combinations
- English, Government, Literature in English, CRS
- English, History, Government, Economics
- English, Government, Economics, Geography
Each has History or Government plus two Arts or Social Science subjects. Government is more widely taught than History in Nigerian schools, so most candidates use it.
Direct Entry
The general rule is two A level passes or an NCE at upper credit in History or Government and a related subject. The brochure’s six DE remarks add ND, HND and other NCE options for named universities only. Ask Spiritan before relying on one of them. DE students normally start at 200 level.
How Spiritan screens History and Diplomatic Studies applicants
Spiritan does not run the large Post-UTME portal process you see at public universities. Its 2026/2027 admissions page, signed by the Ag. Registrar, says admission is in progress and gives two ways in: an online form linked from the page, or a paper form from one of thirteen sales points across six states and Abuja. The page adds that candidates who did not choose Spiritan in JAMB can still apply, and a July 2025 university notice told such candidates to do a change of institution right away.
| Where to get the form | State |
|---|---|
| Spiritan University campus, Nneochi | Abia |
| St. Mulumba’s Catholic Parish, Upper Chime Avenue, New Haven | Enugu |
| Holy Ghost Juniorate, Ihiala | Anambra |
| Holy Ghost Academy, Amaokpala, Orumba North LGA | Anambra |
| Spiritan Provincialate, 3-3 Junction, Onitsha | Anambra |
| Fr Philip Aguh Spiritan Academy, Akabor, Ikeduru LGA | Imo |
| Bishop Okoye Spiritan Secondary School, Mmiriwanyi, Oyigbo LGA | Rivers |
| Mater Misericordiae Parish, Rumuomasi, Port Harcourt | Rivers |
| Thorst Ltd, Woji Road, Woji Town, Port Harcourt (08055233612) | Rivers |
| Spiritan Provincialate, Towers International School, Katampe | FCT Abuja |
| Spiritan Provincialate, Lagos-Benin Expressway, Benin | Edo |
| St Francis Catholic Church, Oregun, Ikeja | Lagos |
| Annunciation Catholic Church, Ogunu, Warri | Delta |
The admissions page does not describe a screening test, an aggregate formula or a form fee. Blog reports from the 2022 cycle described a Post-UTME screening exercise for which candidates with 140 and above were eligible. A later blog page labelled 2026/2027 repeats dates that do not match the calendar, so I would not plan around it. Call the Registrar’s line, 0703 986 5805, to ask whether there is a test or interview for this year’s intake and what to bring.
One oddity: the requirements text on the 2026/2027 page still says “National Cutoff Score in the 2025/2026 UTME”. The national minimum was 150 in both years, so in practice nothing changes. Read it as the current year’s minimum.
Worked example
Spiritan has not published an aggregate formula, so I check the margin, the subjects and the O’level.
Somtochukwu scored 158 in English, Government, Literature in English and CRS. Over two WAEC sittings she has C5 English, C6 Mathematics, B3 Government, C4 Literature and C6 Civic Education, but F9 in Geography.
- Eligibility: 158 minus 150 = 8 above the minimum.
- UTME subjects: Government plus Literature and CRS. That fits the brochure.
- O’level: English, Mathematics and Government are fine. Geography is missing.
- What I would advise: call the department and ask whether another Social Science credit replaces Geography. If not, sit Geography in the next NECO or WAEC GCE and use the awaiting-result route only if Spiritan allows it.
How to apply for History and Diplomatic Studies at Spiritan
- Get your JAMB profile code: text NIN, a space and your 11-digit NIN to 55019 or 66019 from the phone line linked to your NIN. You need the code to buy the UTME e-PIN.
- Register the right course: pick History and Diplomatic Studies under Spiritan University with Use of English, History or Government, and two other Arts or Social Science subjects. Make Spiritan your first choice. If you chose another school, do a JAMB change of institution before you apply.
- Upload your O’level to CAPS: go to a JAMB-accredited CBT centre with your WAEC, NECO or NABTEB details and have the result uploaded. Spiritan cannot see grades that are not on CAPS.
- Fill the Spiritan application form: open the “Click Here to Apply” link on the university’s admissions page, or buy the form at one of the sales points in the table above. The form price is not published, so ask the Registrar’s line (0703 986 5805) before you pay anything.
- Attend screening: sit any test or interview the university fixes and bring originals of your JAMB result slip and O’level results. Ask the admissions office for the full document list.
- Accept on CAPS: log in at efacility.jamb.gov.ng, choose Check Admission Status, then Access my CAPS. JAMB gives four weeks to accept an offer. Our JAMB CAPS guide explains each status.
- Pay acceptance and register: a 2022 blog report put the acceptance fee at ₦20,000, non-refundable. Spiritan has not published a current figure, so confirm on the student portal or with the bursary before paying.
Warning
Spiritan’s application form is a link on its own admissions page and paper forms are sold at named Spiritan parishes and schools. Do not pay any agent who promises a guaranteed place, and treat any offer that does not show on JAMB CAPS as fake. Admissions done outside CAPS are illegal.
If you wrote the 2026 UTME and still want a place this session, move quickly. JAMB told private universities to finish 2026/2027 admissions by 30 November 2026 (public universities had until 31 October). Offers that are not accepted on CAPS in time are withdrawn.
Studying History and Diplomatic Studies at Spiritan
The B.A. History and Diplomatic Studies sits in the Faculty of Arts, Management and Social Sciences and runs for four years for UTME entrants. Myschool’s July 2024 report listed it as “History and International Diplomatic Studies”; the university’s 2026/2027 page calls it History and Diplomatic Studies, which is also the JAMB name.
What you study
- Foundation: historical method, African and Nigerian history, world civilisations, plus general studies and entrepreneurship.
- Diplomacy and international relations: theories of international relations, diplomatic history, Nigerian foreign policy, international law and organisations.
- Regional history: West Africa, Europe, the Americas and Asia.
- Final year: a long essay based on archival or oral research.
This is the usual pattern for the course in Nigeria. Spiritan has not posted its course list, so ask for the departmental handbook.
Is History and Diplomatic Studies at Spiritan University accredited?
Not confirmed. History and Diplomatic Studies was not among the ten programmes NUC visited in January 2022 (Accounting, Banking and Finance, Business Administration, Economics, Political Science, English, Biochemistry, Computer Science, Microbiology and Physics). I searched the NUC accreditation reports and found none naming Spiritan University for this course, and the university has not announced a later result.
NUC lets a newly approved programme run for at least two sessions before its first accreditation visit, and Spiritan’s 2026/2027 admissions page lists the course. Still, ask the Registrar what the current status is and when the next visit is due before you accept an offer.
Careers
Graduates work in the civil service, foreign affairs and international organisations (which recruit through competitive exams), journalism and broadcasting, teaching after a postgraduate diploma in education, archives and museums, NGOs and politics. Many also go on to law as a second degree.
About Spiritan University, Nneochi
Spiritan University is a private Catholic university owned by the Congregation of the Holy Spirit (the Spiritans), Province of Nigeria South-East. The Federal Executive Council approved it on 6 December 2017 and it started lectures in the 2018/2019 session. The campus sits on Ajali-Ihube-Lomara Road, Nneato-Isuochi, in Umunneochi LGA, a rural part of Abia State close to the Enugu and Anambra borders. The university describes itself as the second full university owned by the Spiritans worldwide, after Duquesne University in the United States.
Its 2026/2027 admissions page lists four faculties: Arts, Management and Social Sciences; Natural and Applied Sciences; Law; and Allied Health and Basic Medical Sciences. The last two are new. In March 2026 the university reported that NUC had finished an accreditation visit to the Faculty of Allied Health.

Mistakes History and Diplomatic Studies applicants make
- Skipping the Mathematics credit: Spiritan requires it for every course.
- No Geography credit: named in the brochure’s O’level line for this course.
- Neither History nor Government in the UTME: one of the two is compulsory.
- Not making Spiritan your institution on JAMB: the offer can only come through CAPS.
- Paying the acceptance fee without asking about accreditation: a quick call to the Registrar costs nothing.

Spiritan History and Diplomatic Studies cut-off mark: FAQs

Is Mathematics compulsory for History and Diplomatic Studies at Spiritan? Yes. Spiritan’s admissions page requires English and Mathematics credits for every programme, even though the brochure’s line for this course does not list Mathematics.
Can I study History and Diplomatic Studies without History in WAEC? Yes. The brochure accepts Government or History, so a Government credit and Government in the UTME are enough.

Sources and updates
The 2026/2027 admission status, O’level rule (five credits, not more than two sittings, English and Mathematics compulsory), application routes, form sales points, faculty and programme list and phone numbers come from Spiritan University’s admissions page, read on 29 October 2026. The founding date, proprietor and location are from the university’s About page. The January 2022 accreditation visit is from the university’s report of 11 February 2022 and the seven full and three interim results from Myschool (9 May 2022). The Allied Health accreditation visit is from the university’s news page (20 March 2026). The course name to register comes from Myschool’s reprint of Spiritan’s JAMB course list (17 courses). UTME, O’level and Direct Entry rules are from Myschool’s reprint of the JAMB brochure entry for History and Diplomatic Studies, which has no Spiritan remark. Myschool’s report of 3 July 2024 gives the older name History and International Diplomatic Studies. The 150 national minimum, the four-week acceptance window and the 30 November 2026 private university deadline come from the News Agency of Nigeria (11 May 2026); the 2025/2026 figure of 150 is from Channels TV and Nairametrics (8 July 2025). The 140 figure for 2022 and the ₦20,000 acceptance fee are blog reports (SchoolNGR, 19 September 2022) and are unofficial. Safe target scores are my own advice. Checked on 29 October 2026; this page will be updated if Spiritan publishes a departmental cut-off or a new accreditation result.
