The Caritas University cut-off mark for Architecture is 150 in the UTME for 2026/2027, because 150 is JAMB’s minimum for all Nigerian universities this year. Caritas’s admissions page says candidates with “140 and above” can apply, but a score from 140 to 149 is below JAMB’s floor and cannot be admitted on JAMB CAPS. Caritas has published no separate Architecture cut-off and runs no written post-UTME test or drawing test.
2027/2028 update: Caritas cut-off marks usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the figures on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They come from the latest official notice (2026/2027). If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.
Architecture is on JAMB’s course list for Caritas University under that exact name, and Caritas lists it in its Faculty of Environmental Sciences with Estate Management and Urban and Regional Planning for 2026/2027. The NUC’s latest published result is Full accreditation, maturing in 2029. Its report on the most recent visit, from 28 November to 1 December 2024, gives the programme 84.80%.
Architecture also has a professional regulator, the Architects Registration Council of Nigeria (ARCON). I found no ARCON accreditation report or list that names Caritas, so its ARCON status is not confirmed. This page covers that, the 150 floor, subjects, Direct Entry, what the NUC panel found and how to apply.

140 or 150: which Caritas Architecture cut-off is right?
Caritas’s admissions page for 2026/2027 says candidates who scored “140 and above” can apply, whether or not they chose Caritas first. JAMB’s policy meeting of 11 May 2026 set 150 as the lowest UTME score any Nigerian university may admit with for the 2026/2027 session. A university may ask for more than 150 but never less.
The JAMB figure wins because of CAPS. Every admission has to go through JAMB’s Central Admissions Processing System, and JAMB has said admissions done outside CAPS are illegal. A candidate on 147 cannot be offered Architecture at Caritas on CAPS, so a 140 printed on the school’s website does not help.
Caritas has another admission notice on its website, headed for the 2025/2026 session, and its body still talks about a minimum score “in the 2019 JAMB UTME” and a closing date of 15 February 2025. That shows how much of the school’s admission text is carried forward from year to year. Treat 140 as an old Caritas number and 150 as the one that decides your admission.
Scored between 140 and 149?
- Rewrite the UTME in 2027: aim well above 150 so the floor never becomes a question, and keep Caritas and the exact course name on your form.
- Consider JUPEB at Caritas: the admissions page says JUPEB admission is open for 2026/2027. Good JUPEB passes can take you into 200 level by Direct Entry in a later session, without a UTME score. JAMB’s general Direct Entry rule for Architecture asks for two A’Level passes from Mathematics or Physics and Chemistry, Geography or Fine Arts, so plan your JUPEB subjects around that.
- Look at a polytechnic ND: JAMB’s 2026/2027 minimum for polytechnics is 100. An ND followed by Direct Entry takes longer, but you keep moving. An ND in Architectural Technology is the usual polytechnic route; JAMB’s general brochure entry mentions ND or HND upper credits in a relevant field for Direct Entry.
Caritas Architecture cut-off mark history
| Session | Figure | What it is | How to read it |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2026/2027 | 140 | Caritas’s stated minimum (“140 and above”) for all courses | Official Caritas page, but below JAMB’s floor |
| 2026/2027 | 150 | JAMB minimum for every university | The figure that applies |
| 2025/2026 (as headed) | 140 | Minimum in a Caritas notice whose body mentions the 2019 UTME and a February 2025 closing date | Official but recycled text |
| Any year | None | A separate Architecture cut-off | Not found in any Caritas notice |
Blogs such as O3schools (January 2026) and Studentship repeat Caritas’s 140 and the absence of a written post-UTME test. None of them mentions JAMB’s 150 floor, and none gives a Architecture figure from an official Caritas source.
Safe target score for Caritas Architecture
Caritas does not publish how many people apply for each course or the lowest score it admitted last year. The bands below are my advice as an admissions adviser, based on how private universities in the South East fill courses like this one. They are not a Caritas rule.
| Your UTME score | My read for Architecture at Caritas |
|---|---|
| Below 150 | Cannot be admitted on CAPS for 2026/2027 |
| 150 to 169 | Eligible, though Architecture is one of the more popular courses in the Environmental Sciences, so your margin is thin |
| 170 to 189 | Comfortable |
| 190 and above | Strong, and enough to compete for public universities too |
For the 2027 UTME I would aim for at least 180. That keeps Caritas comfortable and leaves ESUT or other public options open. Since there is no test, your O’level is the other half of your file, so get Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics at credit in one sitting if you can.
Caritas Architecture subject combination and O’level requirements
| Requirement | What applies to Architecture at Caritas |
|---|---|
| Course name to pick on JAMB | Architecture |
| UTME subjects (JAMB brochure) | Use of English, Physics, Mathematics and one of Chemistry, Geography, Art, Biology or Economics |
| Caritas remark on UTME | None; JAMB’s general rule applies |
| Combination I recommend | English, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry |
| O’level (JAMB brochure) | Five credits in English Language, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and one of Fine Art, Geography, Wood Work, Biology, Economics, Technical Drawing, Further Mathematics or a listed building trade subject |
| O’level (Caritas Faculty of Environmental Sciences) | English, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology or Agricultural Science |
| Sittings and exam bodies | Not more than two sittings; WAEC, NECO and NABTEB can be combined |
| Awaiting results | Accepted if results will be available at resumption |
Any of the five listed fourth subjects is allowed in the UTME, but Chemistry is the one I would choose, because you need a Chemistry credit at O’level anyway and it keeps the same combination valid for Estate Management and other science-based courses if you change your mind.
The two O’level lists meet at Biology. JAMB’s list for Architecture accepts Biology as the fifth subject, and Caritas’s faculty list asks for Biology or Agricultural Science. A candidate who has Technical Drawing or Fine Art in place of Biology meets JAMB’s list but not the faculty’s, so get a Biology credit or ask Caritas in writing. Six credits (English, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Technical Drawing or Fine Art) cover every version of the rule.
Direct Entry into Architecture at Caritas
JAMB’s brochure has no Caritas remark for Architecture Direct Entry, so the general rule applies:
- Two A’Level passes chosen from Mathematics or Physics, and Chemistry, Geography or Fine Arts.
- ND or HND at upper credit in a relevant field, according to the general brochure entry.
- JUPEB or IJMB passes in the A’Level subjects above are usually treated the same way; confirm with Caritas.
Direct Entry candidates still register with JAMB, pick Caritas and the exact course name, and receive their offer on CAPS. If your previous school must confirm your result on JAMB’s e-Facility, push them early. Caritas cannot complete the admission until JAMB can see that result.
Is there a Caritas post-UTME for Architecture?
No. Caritas’s admission notice says there is no post-UTME screening test, and earlier notices and admission blogs say the same thing. Keep in mind that the notice is recycled text (it still refers to the 2019 UTME), so ask the admissions office to confirm the rule for your own session. The no-test policy has held for several years.
With no test, Caritas works from your file. It checks that your UTME score is at least 150, that your UTME subjects fit Architecture, that your O’level has the credits the faculty asks for, and that the result is uploaded on CAPS. The admissions page also says candidates who did not choose Caritas first can apply, and that candidates awaiting results can apply if the results will be out by resumption.
Worked example (illustrative)
Caritas has published no aggregate formula, and without a test there is nothing to add to your UTME score. What you can do is check your own file against each requirement. The two candidates below are made up to show how.
Ifeanyi scored 194 with English, Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry. His WAEC shows B3 in English, B2 in Mathematics, B3 in Physics, C4 in Chemistry, C5 in Biology and B3 in Technical Drawing, all in one sitting.
- Score: 194 minus 150 = 44. He clears JAMB’s floor by 44 marks and sits in my strong band.
- UTME subjects: Physics and Mathematics, plus Chemistry from the allowed list.
- O’level: English, Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry at credit, with Biology for the faculty list and Technical Drawing as a bonus.
- Verdict: his file meets every published rule. His remaining task is to ask about ARCON before paying.
Nneka scored 178 with English, Mathematics, Physics and Art. Her O’level has credits in English, Mathematics, Physics, Fine Art, Technical Drawing and Geography, but a D7 in Chemistry. Her score and UTME subjects are fine. Both O’level lists ask for Chemistry, so she does not qualify until she gets a Chemistry credit in another WAEC or NECO sitting.
How to apply for Architecture at Caritas University
- Create your JAMB profile: text NIN, a space and your 11-digit NIN to 55019 or 66019 from the phone number linked to your NIN. JAMB replies with a profile code.
- Register for the UTME: choose Architecture at Caritas University and write English, Mathematics, Physics and (my advice) Chemistry. If you already picked another school first, Caritas says you can still apply, but you will need a JAMB change of institution so the offer can be made on CAPS.
- Check and print your result: you need 150 or more. Our guide on checking your JAMB result covers the steps.
- Upload your O’level on CAPS: go to a JAMB-accredited centre with your result details. Without the upload, Caritas cannot recommend you.
- Apply on the Caritas website: start from caritasuni.edu.ng/admissions. The page says 2026/2027 admission is open, but it does not show a form fee or a closing date, so confirm both with the admissions office (info@caritasuni.edu.ng) before you pay.
- Accept the offer on CAPS: log in at efacility.jamb.gov.ng, open Check Admission Status, then Access my CAPS, and accept when the offer appears. Our JAMB CAPS guide explains each status.
- Pay acceptance and school fees and clear: Caritas has not published 2026/2027 amounts. Get the official figures and the university’s own account details before paying anything.
JAMB set 30 November 2026 as the 2026/2027 admission deadline for private universities (News Agency of Nigeria, 11 May 2026). Caritas says its 2026/2027 admission is open, so any offer for this session has to show on CAPS before that date.
Fees are the biggest gap in what Caritas publishes. Its recent notice says fees were “recently revised” without listing amounts, and the fee tables that blogs reprint are from 2021/2022. The admissions page also links to the NELFUND student loan portal (portal.nelf.gov.ng); ask the bursary whether Caritas students can apply in your year.
Warning
Caritas does not set a written post-UTME test, so nobody can sell you a pass or a “slot”. A score below 150 cannot be fixed with money, and every genuine offer shows on your JAMB CAPS page. Pay fees only after confirming the amount and the account with the university.
Studying Architecture at Caritas University
Architecture sits in Caritas’s Faculty of Environmental Sciences on the Amorji-Nike campus in Enugu. Nigerian universities usually run a four-year B.Sc. Architecture followed by a two-year M.Sc. as the professional degree. Caritas has not stated the duration or whether it runs the M.Sc. on the pages I read, so ask both questions when you contact the department.
What you study
- Design studio: a studio project every semester, from small buildings in year one to larger, mixed-use designs later.
- Drawing and computing: freehand and technical drawing, graphics and computer-aided design.
- Building technology: construction, materials, structures and building services.
- History and theory: the history of architecture, African and Nigerian architecture, and design theory.
- Environment and practice: climate and lighting design, site planning, and SIWES industrial training in an architecture firm.
Accreditation and professional approval
NUC: the NUC report on Caritas Architecture records Full accreditation with 84.80% after the visit of 28 November to 1 December 2024, and the NUC’s compiled results give a maturity date of 2029. The full breakdown is further down this page.
ARCON: the Architects Registration Council of Nigeria registers architects, and the route to registration normally runs through an accredited professional (master’s) programme and supervised practice. I found no ARCON accreditation report or list naming Caritas, so I cannot confirm its status. Ask the department in writing whether ARCON has visited, and with what result.
Careers after Architecture
- Architect in a design practice or construction firm, after professional registration.
- Architectural visualisation, 3D modelling and CAD work.
- Construction project coordination and site supervision.
- Property development and facility management.
- Urban design, conservation and further study at master’s level.

What the NUC panel found in Architecture at Caritas
The NUC publishes a short report for each programme it visits. Caritas Architecture was visited from 28 November to 1 December 2024 and scored 84.80% overall. Full accreditation needs at least 70% in each of the four core areas, and the programme cleared all four.
| Area | Score | Share of the marks |
|---|---|---|
| Academic Matters | 37 | 100.00% |
| Staffing | 28 | 80.00% |
| Physical Facilities | 22 | 81.48% |
| Library | 13 | 72.22% |
| Funding | 2 | 66.67% |
| Research and Collaborations | 2 | 66.67% |
| Employers’ Rating | 2 | 100.00% |
The panel also listed what Caritas should fix. These are worth asking about on a visit to the department, because a Full result is reviewed again at its next visit.
- Fewer than half of the academic staff hold a PhD; the panel asked Caritas to hire PhD holders or sponsor current staff.
- There is no workshop for masonry and concrete work.
- Some classroom furniture is broken or poorly kept.
- Fire extinguishers and sand buckets are too few.
- Internet access on campus is limited.
For a design student, the last point and the missing workshop matter most in daily life. Ask current students how they get reliable internet for CAD work and where practical building classes take place.
Mistakes Architecture applicants make at Caritas
- Planning with 140: any score below 150 cannot be admitted on CAPS in 2026/2027.
- A weak Chemistry O’level: Art students often have strong Fine Art and Technical Drawing grades but no Chemistry credit, which both lists require.
- No Biology or Agricultural Science credit: Caritas’s faculty list asks for one of them.
- Assuming the B.Sc. makes you an architect: professional registration needs more training after the first degree. Ask Caritas how its graduates continue.
- No O’level on CAPS: a good score without an uploaded result stalls your file.
- Paying for a “slot”: there is no test to help you pass. Real offers show on your CAPS page.
- Stopping after CAPS acceptance: acceptance fee, clearance and course registration at Caritas are separate steps.

Sources and updates
Caritas University’s admissions page and faculty pages (read on 30 October 2026) give the “140 and above” figure, the open 2026/2027 session, the rules for candidates who did not choose Caritas first and for awaiting results, and the faculty O’level list. The no-test rule and the references to the 2019 UTME and a 15 February 2025 closing date come from Caritas’s notice headed for the 2025/2026 session, signed by the Registrar, M. I. Onwuka. The 150 minimum, the rule that admissions must go through CAPS and the 30 November 2026 deadline for private universities come from the News Agency of Nigeria report of 11 May 2026. The course name is from JAMB’s course list for Caritas University and the subject and Direct Entry rules from the JAMB brochure entry for Architecture, both reprinted by Myschool. NUC status is from the NUC Accreditation Results 1990 to 2025, published in September 2026. The 2024 visit, score and panel findings are from the NUC accreditation report for Caritas Architecture. I searched for ARCON reports and lists naming Caritas and found none. The safe target scores and the worked examples are my own advice. Checked on 30 October 2026. This page will be updated when Caritas publishes its 2027/2028 admission notice.
