The Caritas University cut-off mark for Urban and Regional Planning is 150 in the UTME for 2026/2027, because 150 is JAMB’s minimum for all Nigerian universities this year. Caritas’s admissions page says candidates with “140 and above” can apply, but scores from 140 to 149 fall below JAMB’s floor and cannot be admitted on JAMB CAPS. Caritas has published no separate cut-off for the course and sets no written post-UTME test. The part to watch is the UTME subject combination, where Caritas’s rule in the JAMB brochure differs from JAMB’s general rule.
2027/2028 update: Caritas cut-off marks usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the figures on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They come from the latest official notice (2026/2027). If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.
Urban and Regional Planning is on JAMB’s course list for Caritas University under that exact name, and Caritas lists it in its Faculty of Environmental Sciences for 2026/2027. The NUC’s latest published result is Full accreditation, maturing in 2030, the latest maturity date of Caritas’s three environmental programmes. I did not find a separate NUC visit report for it.
Town planners are registered by the Town Planners Registration Council of Nigeria (TOPREC). I found no TOPREC list or report that names Caritas, so that status is not confirmed. This page explains the subject problem, the 150 floor, Direct Entry, the no-test process and how to apply.

JAMB’s brochure gives Caritas its own UTME rule for Urban and Regional Planning: Physics, Chemistry and one of Government, Geography or Economics, with English. JAMB’s general rule asks for Mathematics, Geography and one of Economics, Physics or Chemistry. No combination meets both, so ask Caritas in writing which one it accepts before you register.

140 or 150: which Caritas Urban and Regional Planning cut-off is right?
Caritas’s admissions page for 2026/2027 says candidates who scored “140 and above” can apply, whether or not they chose Caritas first. JAMB’s policy meeting of 11 May 2026 set 150 as the lowest UTME score any Nigerian university may admit with for the 2026/2027 session. A university may ask for more than 150 but never less.
The JAMB figure wins because of CAPS. Every admission has to go through JAMB’s Central Admissions Processing System, and JAMB has said admissions done outside CAPS are illegal. A candidate on 144 cannot be offered Urban and Regional Planning at Caritas on CAPS, so a 140 printed on the school’s website does not help.
Caritas has another admission notice on its website, headed for the 2025/2026 session, and its body still talks about a minimum score “in the 2019 JAMB UTME” and a closing date of 15 February 2025. That shows how much of the school’s admission text is carried forward from year to year. Treat 140 as an old Caritas number and 150 as the one that decides your admission.
Scored between 140 and 149?
- Rewrite the UTME in 2027: aim well above 150 so the floor never becomes a question, and keep Caritas and the exact course name on your form. Settle the subject question with Caritas before you register.
- Consider JUPEB at Caritas: the admissions page says JUPEB admission is open for 2026/2027. Good JUPEB passes can take you into 200 level by Direct Entry in a later session, without a UTME score. Caritas’s brochure remark accepts A’Level, IJMB or JUPEB passes that include Mathematics or Physics for Direct Entry; confirm the second subject with Caritas.
- Look at a polytechnic ND: JAMB’s 2026/2027 minimum for polytechnics is 100. An ND followed by Direct Entry takes longer, but you keep moving. An ND in Urban and Regional Planning (often called Town Planning) is the usual polytechnic route, and Caritas’s remark lists ND among its Direct Entry qualifications.
Caritas Urban and Regional Planning cut-off mark history
| Session | Figure | What it is | How to read it |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2026/2027 | 140 | Caritas’s stated minimum (“140 and above”) for all courses | Official Caritas page, but below JAMB’s floor |
| 2026/2027 | 150 | JAMB minimum for every university | The figure that applies |
| 2025/2026 (as headed) | 140 | Minimum in a Caritas notice whose body mentions the 2019 UTME and a February 2025 closing date | Official but recycled text |
| Any year | None | A separate Urban and Regional Planning cut-off | Not found in any Caritas notice |
Blogs such as O3schools (January 2026) and Studentship repeat Caritas’s 140 and the absence of a written post-UTME test. None of them mentions JAMB’s 150 floor, and none gives a Urban and Regional Planning figure from an official Caritas source.
Safe target score for Caritas Urban and Regional Planning
Caritas does not publish how many people apply for each course or the lowest score it admitted last year. The bands below are my advice as an admissions adviser, based on how private universities in the South East fill courses like this one. They are not a Caritas rule.
| Your UTME score | My read for Urban and Regional Planning at Caritas |
|---|---|
| Below 150 | Cannot be admitted on CAPS for 2026/2027 |
| 150 to 159 | Eligible, if your subjects match the rule Caritas applies |
| 160 to 179 | Comfortable |
| 180 and above | Strong |
For the 2027 UTME I would aim for at least 160. Planning is not usually oversubscribed at private universities, so your subject combination is a bigger risk than your score. A good score with the wrong subjects can still stall on CAPS.
Caritas Urban and Regional Planning subject combination and O’level requirements
| Requirement | What applies to Urban and Regional Planning at Caritas |
|---|---|
| Course name to pick on JAMB | Urban and Regional Planning |
| UTME subjects (JAMB general rule) | Use of English, Mathematics, Geography and one of Economics, Physics or Chemistry |
| Caritas remark on UTME | Physics, Chemistry and one of Government, Geography or Economics |
| Combination I would use for Caritas | English, Physics, Chemistry, Geography (after confirming with Caritas) |
| O’level (JAMB general rule) | Five credits in English Language, Mathematics, Geography and two other subjects from a list that includes Physics and Chemistry |
| O’level (Caritas remark) | Five credits including English and Mathematics, plus three from Geography, Physics, Biology, Technical Drawing, Fine Arts, Surveying, Economics or Government |
| O’level (Caritas Faculty of Environmental Sciences) | English, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology or Agricultural Science |
| Awaiting results | Accepted if results will be available at resumption |
Three O’level lists apply here, and they do not agree. Caritas’s own brochure remark does not name Chemistry, but its UTME remark and its faculty list both need it. Six credits cover all three: English, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Geography and Biology.
Geography is the subject most planning schools build on, so keep it in your UTME if Caritas accepts it as your third subject. The comparison table further down shows which combinations fit Caritas, JAMB’s general rule and UNN.
Direct Entry into Urban and Regional Planning at Caritas
JAMB’s brochure has a Caritas remark for Direct Entry into Urban and Regional Planning. In summary, it accepts any of these, in relevant fields such as Town Planning, Land Surveying or Architecture:
- A bachelor’s degree.
- An NCE, ND or HND at lower credit or better.
- A’Level, IJMB or JUPEB passes in Mathematics or Physics plus one other relevant subject.
- The remark does not state the entry level, so ask Caritas whether an HND takes you into 200 or 300 level.
Direct Entry candidates still register with JAMB, pick Caritas and the exact course name, and receive their offer on CAPS. If your previous school must confirm your result on JAMB’s e-Facility, push them early. Caritas cannot complete the admission until JAMB can see that result.
Is there a Caritas post-UTME for Urban and Regional Planning?
No. Caritas’s admission notice says there is no post-UTME screening test, and earlier notices and admission blogs say the same thing. Keep in mind that the notice is recycled text (it still refers to the 2019 UTME), so ask the admissions office to confirm the rule for your own session. The no-test policy has held for several years.
With no test, Caritas works from your file. It checks that your UTME score is at least 150, that your UTME subjects fit Urban and Regional Planning, that your O’level has the credits the faculty asks for, and that the result is uploaded on CAPS. The admissions page also says candidates who did not choose Caritas first can apply, and that candidates awaiting results can apply if the results will be out by resumption.
Worked example (illustrative)
Caritas has published no aggregate formula, and without a test there is nothing to add to your UTME score. What you can do is check your own file against each requirement. The two candidates below are made up to show how.
Ebuka scored 168 with English, Physics, Chemistry and Geography. His WAEC shows B3 in English, C4 in Mathematics, C5 in Physics, C6 in Chemistry, B2 in Geography and C5 in Biology, all in one sitting.
- Score: 168 minus 150 = 18. He clears JAMB’s floor by 18 marks.
- UTME subjects: Physics, Chemistry and Geography, which matches the Caritas remark.
- O’level: his six credits satisfy JAMB’s general list, Caritas’s remark and the faculty list.
- Verdict: his file fits Caritas’s published rules. His Caritas-only combination would not fit UNN’s rule, so Caritas has to be his real target.
Uju scored 175 with English, Mathematics, Geography and Economics, which is JAMB’s general combination. Her score is good, but her subjects do not match the Caritas remark, which asks for Physics and Chemistry. She should ask Caritas in writing whether it will consider her. If it will not, her subjects do fit UNN’s rule, and she could use a change of institution to a school that accepts them.
How to apply for Urban and Regional Planning at Caritas University
- Create your JAMB profile: text NIN, a space and your 11-digit NIN to 55019 or 66019 from the phone number linked to your NIN. JAMB replies with a profile code.
- Register for the UTME: choose Urban and Regional Planning at Caritas University and write English, Physics, Chemistry and Geography (after confirming with Caritas; see the table below). If you already picked another school first, Caritas says you can still apply, but you will need a JAMB change of institution so the offer can be made on CAPS.
- Check and print your result: you need 150 or more. Our guide on checking your JAMB result covers the steps.
- Upload your O’level on CAPS: go to a JAMB-accredited centre with your result details. Without the upload, Caritas cannot recommend you.
- Apply on the Caritas website: start from caritasuni.edu.ng/admissions. The page says 2026/2027 admission is open, but it does not show a form fee or a closing date, so confirm both with the admissions office (info@caritasuni.edu.ng) before you pay.
- Accept the offer on CAPS: log in at efacility.jamb.gov.ng, open Check Admission Status, then Access my CAPS, and accept when the offer appears. Our JAMB CAPS guide explains each status.
- Pay acceptance and school fees and clear: Caritas has not published 2026/2027 amounts. Get the official figures and the university’s own account details before paying anything.
JAMB set 30 November 2026 as the 2026/2027 admission deadline for private universities (News Agency of Nigeria, 11 May 2026). Caritas says its 2026/2027 admission is open, so any offer for this session has to show on CAPS before that date.
Fees are the biggest gap in what Caritas publishes. Its recent notice says fees were “recently revised” without listing amounts, and the fee tables that blogs reprint are from 2021/2022. The admissions page also links to the NELFUND student loan portal (portal.nelf.gov.ng); ask the bursary whether Caritas students can apply in your year.
Studying Urban and Regional Planning at Caritas University
Urban and Regional Planning sits in Caritas’s Faculty of Environmental Sciences with Architecture and Estate Management, on the Amorji-Nike campus in Enugu. Nigerian planning degrees run for four or five years depending on the university; Caritas has not stated its duration on the pages I read.
What you study
- Foundations: planning history and theory, basic design and graphics, and introductory economics and geography.
- Tools: surveying and mapping, GIS and remote sensing, and planning statistics.
- Planning fields: land use, housing, transport, urban design, environmental planning and regional development.
- Law and practice: planning law, development control and plan preparation in studio projects.
- Practice: SIWES industrial training with a planning authority or firm, and a final-year project.
Accreditation and professional approval
NUC: the NUC’s Accreditation Results 1990 to 2025 list Urban and Regional Planning at Caritas as Full, maturing in 2030. I did not find a separate NUC visit report for the programme, so its score is not public.
TOPREC: the Town Planners Registration Council of Nigeria registers town planners, and the Nigerian Institute of Town Planners is the professional body. I found no TOPREC accreditation list or report naming Caritas, so I cannot confirm its status. Ask the department in writing.
Careers after Urban and Regional Planning
- Town planner in state ministries, planning authorities and private consultancies, after professional registration.
- GIS and mapping analyst.
- Development control and building approval officer.
- Transport, housing and environmental impact consultant.
- Urban development work with NGOs and international agencies, and postgraduate study.

Two subject rules for one course: what to do
JAMB’s brochure has a general rule for Urban and Regional Planning and a separate remark for Caritas. Because you write one set of UTME subjects for every school on your form, the choice affects your other options too. Here is how common combinations fare against the Caritas remark, JAMB’s general rule and UNN’s own remark (UNN is the nearest public university with the course).
| UTME combination (with English) | Caritas remark | JAMB general rule | UNN remark |
|---|---|---|---|
| Physics, Chemistry, Geography | Fits | Does not fit (no Mathematics) | Does not fit (no Mathematics) |
| Physics, Chemistry, Economics | Fits | Does not fit | Does not fit |
| Mathematics, Geography, Economics | Does not fit | Fits | Fits |
| Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry | Does not fit | Does not fit (no Geography) | Fits |
No combination fits both the Caritas remark and JAMB’s general rule. My advice, in order:
- Ask before you register: email info@caritasuni.edu.ng and ask which UTME subjects the Urban and Regional Planning department will accept for 2027/2028. Keep the reply.
- If Caritas is your clear first choice: write English, Physics, Chemistry and Geography, which matches the Caritas remark and keeps Geography for the course itself.
- If you want UNN or another public school as well: English, Mathematics, Geography and Economics fits JAMB’s general rule and UNN, but not the Caritas remark, so get Caritas’s written acceptance first.
- Already sat the UTME with the wrong mix? Ask Caritas whether it will consider you. If it will not, look at a school whose rule your subjects meet, or use a JAMB change of course to a Caritas course that fits them.
Remarks in the brochure sometimes carry old or mistyped entries, and this one leaves out Mathematics, which almost every planning school asks for. That is one more reason to get the department’s answer in writing.
Mistakes Urban and Regional Planning applicants make at Caritas
- Planning with 140: any score below 150 cannot be admitted on CAPS in 2026/2027.
- Using JAMB’s general combination without asking Caritas: Mathematics, Geography and Economics does not match the Caritas remark.
- Dropping Geography altogether: even where the remark allows Government or Economics, Geography is the subject the degree builds on.
- Missing the Chemistry credit: Caritas’s UTME remark and faculty list both need Chemistry, even though its O’level remark leaves it out.
- No O’level on CAPS: a good score without an uploaded result stalls your file.
- Paying for a “slot”: there is no test to help you pass. Real offers show on your CAPS page.
- Stopping after CAPS acceptance: acceptance fee, clearance and course registration at Caritas are separate steps.

Caritas University Urban and Regional Planning cut-off mark: FAQs
What subjects do I need for Urban and Regional Planning at Caritas in JAMB?
JAMB’s brochure remark for Caritas asks for Use of English, Physics, Chemistry and one of Government, Geography or Economics. That differs from JAMB’s general rule, so confirm with Caritas in writing before you register.
Can I use Mathematics instead of Chemistry for Urban and Regional Planning at Caritas?
Not under the Caritas remark, which names Physics and Chemistry. Mathematics fits JAMB’s general rule, so ask Caritas whether it will accept that combination.
Is 140 enough for Urban and Regional Planning at Caritas University?
No. JAMB’s 2026 minimum for universities is 150, and Caritas admits through CAPS, so a score below 150 cannot be offered admission whatever the Caritas page says.
Is Urban and Regional Planning at Caritas University accredited?
Yes. The NUC’s published results give it Full accreditation, maturing in 2030. TOPREC status is not confirmed.
Sources and updates
Caritas University’s admissions page and faculty pages (read on 30 October 2026) give the “140 and above” figure, the open 2026/2027 session, the rules for candidates who did not choose Caritas first and for awaiting results, and the faculty O’level list. The no-test rule and the references to the 2019 UTME and a 15 February 2025 closing date come from Caritas’s notice headed for the 2025/2026 session, signed by the Registrar, M. I. Onwuka. The 150 minimum, the rule that admissions must go through CAPS and the 30 November 2026 deadline for private universities come from the News Agency of Nigeria report of 11 May 2026. The course name is from JAMB’s course list for Caritas University and the subject and Direct Entry rules from the JAMB brochure entry for Urban and Regional Planning, both reprinted by Myschool. NUC status is from the NUC Accreditation Results 1990 to 2025, published in September 2026. The Caritas subject remarks quoted here appear in that brochure entry. I searched for TOPREC lists naming Caritas and found none. The safe target scores and the worked examples are my own advice. Checked on 30 October 2026. This page will be updated when Caritas publishes its 2027/2028 admission notice.
