UNN Cut-Off Mark for Architecture 2027/2028: Subjects, O’Level and Requirements

UNN needs 160 in the UTME to screen for Architecture in 2027/2028 and has published no departmental cut-off. See UNN’s Physics and Mathematics rules, the O’level list, drawing test question, Direct Entry and the score to aim for.

The UNN cut off mark for Architecture for 2026/2027 is 160 in the UTME to apply for screening. That is the figure in the University of Nigeria, Nsukka’s 2026/2027 screening notice of 13 July 2026, for candidates who chose UNN first. UNN has not published a departmental cut-off for Architecture for 2026/2027 or 2025/2026, so a score sold online as the “official” UNN Architecture cut-off did not come from the university.

2027/2028 update: UNN cut-off marks usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the figures on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They come from the latest official notice (2026/2027). If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.

The other figure in circulation is 200, UNN’s minimum as reported from the JAMB 2026 policy meeting on 11 May 2026. Architecture is a professional course and admits well above both numbers. This guide covers UNN’s UTME and O’level rules (Physics and Mathematics are compulsory, Chemistry is not), whether there is a drawing test or portfolio, Direct Entry with an ND, screening, an aggregate example and the score I would aim for.

Keep the two kinds of cut-off apart. The 160 decides who may be screened. The departmental cut-off is the lowest score that actually gets into Architecture after ranking, and UNN does not publish it. The target score later in this guide is my advice.

UNN Architecture cut-off history

These are the only figures that trace back to UNN or JAMB. None of them is an Architecture score.

One education blog lists UNN Architecture at about 210 to 225 for “2025/2026”. It calls its figures estimates based on trends and does not say whether they are UTME scores or aggregates. Treat it as an unofficial estimate. Architecture did not appear in the partial reprints of UNN’s October 2025 advert list that I could read.

UTME subject combination for Architecture at UNN

JAMB’s general rule for Architecture is Physics and Mathematics plus one of Chemistry, Geography, Art, Biology or Economics. UNN’s remark in the brochure is simpler: UNN requires Mathematics, Physics and one other subject, with Use of English.

RequirementWhat you need for Architecture at UNN
UTME subjectsUse of English, Mathematics, Physics, plus one other subject. Chemistry, Geography or Fine Art are sensible choices
O’level (UNN remark)Credits in Mathematics, English Language and Physics, plus any two of Technical Drawing, Building Construction, Woodwork, Fine Art, Geography and Economics
O’level (UNN department page)Credits in Mathematics, English Language, Physics and two other subjects
Minimum UTME to apply160, with UNN as first choice

Look closely at the O’level list. JAMB’s general rule includes Chemistry, but UNN’s remark does not name it, and it names Technical Drawing, Building Construction, Woodwork, Fine Art, Geography and Economics instead. The department’s own admission page says only “two other subjects”. To satisfy both readings, I would make sure two of your credits come from UNN’s list. Technical Drawing and Geography are the most common for science students.

For the UTME fourth subject, Chemistry still keeps you eligible for Architecture at most other Nigerian universities, while Fine Art or Geography matches what the course actually uses. I could not open JAMB’s IBASS brochure from here, so confirm your combination on your JAMB profile before registration. If Physics is your weak subject, give it the most time.

Is there a drawing test or portfolio for UNN Architecture?

Not that UNN has published. The 2026/2027 screening notice listed only the standard uploads (birth certificate, LGA identification, testimonial, First School Leaving Certificate, JAMB result slip and O’level results), and the Department of Architecture’s admission page does not mention an aptitude test, drawing test or interview.

My advice: even without a test, start sketching before you resume. First-year architecture studio work involves freehand drawing, technical drawing and model making from the first semester. Students who arrive able to draw a building in perspective find the early studio projects much easier.

Direct Entry into Architecture at UNN

A’levelA’level, HSC or equivalent passes in Mathematics and Physics and another subject (brochure). Plus the UTME requirements200 level

The department says Direct Entry students follow a three-year programme, compared with four years for UTME entrants, and may be asked to take extra courses to make up gaps in their background.

UNN screening for 2027/2028: what Architecture candidates had to do

UNN did not run a written post-UTME test for 2026/2027. The Registrar’s notice of 13 July 2026 described an online screening registration only, with no test date and no exam format. If a website is selling you “UNN post-UTME past questions for 2026/2027” as preparation for Architecture, know that the official notice did not mention any paper.

Detail2026/2027 screening

OpenedWednesday 15 July 2026
ClosedMidnight, Wednesday 5 August 2026
Fees₦2,000 application fee plus ₦3,300 processing fee (₦5,300 in total), paid through Remita
O’level uploadTo JAMB CAPS and the UNN portal by 5 August 2026
Awaiting resultsNot eligible; results had to be out
AgeCandidates under 16 by 30 September 2026 were told not to apply
NamesNames on WAEC or NECO results must match the names on the JAMB record
UploadsBirth certificate, LGA identification, testimonial, First School Leaving Certificate, JAMB result slip and O’level result(s), each under 100KB

The portal route was unn.edu.ng, then UNN Portal at the top right (unnportal.unn.edu.ng), then Prospective Students and the 2026/2027 screening form. You entered your JAMB registration number, generated and paid the invoice, came back to fill personal and O’level details (including centre and exam numbers), uploaded your documents, reviewed, submitted and printed the acknowledgement slip. The notice warned that date of birth cannot be changed after submission.

The window is closed. If you did not register by 5 August 2026, UNN cannot consider you for 2026/2027, whatever your score.

How UNN ranks Architecture candidates (aggregate example)

UNN has not published its aggregate formula. Neither the 2026/2027 screening notice nor the 2025/2026 advert notice gives weights or grade points. The 2025/2026 advert notice did refer to a separate screening score with a 160 threshold, but it did not say how that score is worked out.

Several Nigerian education blogs describe the same method, and it is the one you will see most often: 60% of your UTME score plus 40% of an O’level score built from four relevant subjects, where A1 = 100, B2 = 90, B3 = 80, C4 = 70, C5 = 60 and C6 = 50. Treat the example below as an illustration of that blog method. It is not an official UNN formula.

StepWorking
UTME score240
O’level: English LanguageB3 = 80
O’level: MathematicsB2 = 90
O’level: PhysicsB3 = 80
O’level: Technical DrawingB2 = 90
O’level total (out of 400)340
60% of UTME240 × 0.6 = 144
40% of O’level340 × 0.4 = 136
Aggregate (out of 400)144 + 136 = 280

That candidate ends at 280 out of 400 on the blog method. Moving Physics from B3 to A1 adds 8 points to the aggregate, about 13 UTME marks. UNN has not confirmed which O’level subjects it counts for Architecture, so use this only to see how grades shift your position.

Merit, catchment and ELDS for Architecture at UNN

UNN is a federal university, so it works under the federal admission guideline that is widely reported as 45% merit, 35% catchment and 20% educationally less developed states (ELDS). UNN has not published its own split for any course, so read that as the national policy rather than a UNN figure.

  • Merit: the top scorers in the course, from any state, fill this list first. It is where the highest cut-off sits.
  • Catchment: UNN has not published its catchment list. It is generally understood to be the South-East states; confirm on JAMB CAPS or with the UNN admissions office before you count on it.
  • ELDS: this is a federal designation. UNN does not publish its own ELDS list, and I would not rely on any blog that names states “for UNN”.
  • State of origin: the state on your JAMB profile is what counts, and UNN asks for an LGA identification letter as proof during screening.

Architecture is a professional programme with limited studio space, so the merit list fills with high scorers. A South-East candidate who misses merit may still be considered under catchment, but you should not plan around a low score.

What score should you aim for in Architecture at UNN?

My advice (not a UNN figure): aim for 230 or more in the UTME, and 240 or more if your O’level grades are mostly C4 to C6. Scores in the 200s to low 220s can work with strong grades or a catchment state. Below 200 you are under UNN’s declared benchmark, and I would have a related course as a backup.

Your UTME scoreMy reading for Architecture at UNN
Below 160Not eligible for UNN screening
160 to 199Eligible, but below UNN’s declared 200 benchmark; plan a backup
200 to 219Possible with strong O’level grades or a catchment state
220 to 239Competitive
240 and aboveStrong position on merit

Good backups that use the same subjects at UNN’s Faculty of Environmental Studies include Urban and Regional Planning, Estate Management and Quantity Surveying. Check each one’s subject rules first.

Step by step: from JAMB profile to resuming for Architecture at UNN

Warning

JAMB’s 2026 policy gives candidates four weeks to accept an admission offer on CAPS. An offer left unaccepted after that can be withdrawn and given to someone else, so check CAPS every few days once UNN starts releasing lists.

  1. Get or recover your JAMB profile code: text NIN, a space and your 11-digit NIN (for example, NIN 12345678901) to 55019 or 66019 from the phone number linked to your NIN. JAMB replies with your profile code, which you need for registration and other JAMB services.
  2. Make UNN your first choice: UNN screens only candidates who chose it first. If you are planning for 2027, pick UNN and Architecture at registration so you do not pay for a change of institution later.
  3. Upload your O’level to CAPS: your WAEC, NECO or NABTEB result has to show on your JAMB profile. For 2026/2027 UNN asked for the upload to CAPS and the UNN portal by 5 August 2026. A JAMB-accredited CBT centre can do the CAPS upload for you.
  4. Register for UNN screening: when the next notice comes out, fill the form on unnportal.unn.edu.ng, pay through Remita and print your acknowledgement slip.
  5. Check CAPS: log in at efacility.jamb.gov.ng, click Check Admission Status, then Access My CAPS and Admission Status. On a phone, switch your browser to desktop view first.
  6. Accept or reject: read the course name carefully, then click Accept. If you see a Transfer Approval, UNN is offering you a different course, and you must respond to that before anything else.
  7. Print your JAMB admission letter and pay acceptance: after CAPS, pay UNN’s acceptance fee on the UNN portal. Blogs report it as ₦25,000, but I found no official 2026/2027 figure, so confirm the amount on the portal before you pay.
  8. Clearance: follow your faculty’s clearance instructions with your original documents. Nobody can “secure” a place for you on CAPS for money.

UNN’s homepage already carries 2026/2027 notices for its primary admission list, its Direct Entry list and lists for candidates with disabilities and foreign candidates, and Myschool reported on 25 October 2026 that the list is checkable on CAPS. JAMB also told public universities to conclude 2026 admissions by 31 October 2026. Our JAMB CAPS guide explains every status message you may see.

Studying Architecture at UNN

Architecture sits in UNN’s Faculty of Environmental Studies, which is based on the Enugu campus (UNEC), so you will live and study in Enugu, not Nsukka. The department runs a four-year B.Sc. in Architecture for UTME entrants and a three-year programme for Direct Entry students. Its stated aim is architectural education that responds to the Nigerian environment and the needs of the people, drawing on the country’s own building traditions.

The B.Sc. is the first stage. To practise as a registered architect in Nigeria you normally continue to a professional master’s degree; UNN offers a full-time M.Sc. in Architecture of at least two calendar years, plus a PGD, M.Arch and PhD. UNN’s department page says graduates can register with the Nigerian Institute of Architects (NIA) and the Architects Registration Council of Nigeria (ARCON). I could not confirm UNN’s current NUC and ARCON accreditation status, so check it with the department before you accept.

StageLength at UNNWhat it leads to
B.Sc. Architecture (UTME)4 yearsGraduate in architecture; route to the M.Sc.
B.Sc. Architecture (Direct Entry)3 yearsSame degree
M.Sc. ArchitectureAt least 2 calendar years, full timeProfessional degree, defended before an external examiner
Professional registrationAfter practical experienceNIA membership and ARCON registration

Expect studio design projects every semester, architectural drawing and graphics, building construction and materials, structures, environmental science and services, history and theory of architecture, and computer-aided design. Graduates work in architectural firms, construction and real estate companies, government planning and works departments, interior and landscape design, project management and teaching.

Related UNN courses: UNN Urban and Regional Planning, UNN Quantity Surveying, UNN Estate Management and UNN Civil Engineering.

If you are writing the UTME again in 2027, read our guide on JAMB 2027 registration dates before you pick subjects, and once results are out, see how to check your JAMB result and what to do with the score. If you already sat the 2026 UTME with the wrong subjects, a JAMB change of course will not fix a subject mismatch, because the subjects you sat cannot be changed.

Common mistakes Architecture applicants make

  • No Physics or Mathematics in the UTME: both are required by UNN.
  • Relying on Chemistry and Biology at O’level: UNN’s remark wants two of Technical Drawing, Building Construction, Woodwork, Fine Art, Geography and Economics.
  • Expecting to study in Nsukka: Architecture is on the Enugu campus.
  • Choosing UNN second: UNN screens first-choice candidates only.
  • Ignoring CAPS: an offer you do not accept within four weeks can be lost.

UNN cut off mark for Architecture: frequently asked questions

Is 220 enough for Architecture in UNN? It clears the 160 screening minimum and UNN’s declared 200, and it is competitive with good O’level grades. For a safer position on merit, aim for 230 to 240 or more.

Is Chemistry compulsory for Architecture in UNN? No. UNN’s remark asks for Mathematics, Physics and one other UTME subject, and its O’level list does not name Chemistry. Chemistry can still be your fourth UTME subject.

Is Architecture in UNN Nsukka or Enugu campus? Enugu. Architecture is in the Faculty of Environmental Studies on UNN’s Enugu campus (UNEC).

Does UNN Architecture conduct a drawing test? UNN has not published one for 2026/2027. Its screening notice listed only document uploads, and the department’s admission page does not mention an aptitude test.
