SUMAS Cut-Off Mark for Electrical and Electronics Engineering 2027/2028: Requirements and Admission Guide

The SUMAS cut off mark for Electrical and Electronics Engineering in 2027/2028 is 150, and the course was on the October 2026 supplementary list. See UTME subjects, O’Level rules, accreditation status and admission steps.

The SUMAS cut off mark for Electrical Engineering (full name: Electrical and Electronics Engineering) in 2026/2027 is 150 in the UTME. That is the general minimum the State University of Medical and Applied Sciences (SUMAS), Igbo-Eno, Enugu State, set for every programme in its 2026/2027 Post-UTME notice, and it was also 150 in 2025/2026. When SUMAS reopened Electrical and Electronics Engineering on its supplementary admission list in October 2026, the requirement was again a 2026 UTME score of 150 or more.

2027/2028 update: SUMAS cut-off marks usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the figures on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They come from the latest official notice (2026/2027). If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.

SUMAS has not published a departmental cut off for Electrical and Electronics Engineering in any year, and it has no published aggregate formula, merit list with scores, catchment list or ELDS list. The programme runs with NUC approval in the Faculty of Engineering and the Built Environment but is not yet accredited, because its NUC accreditation visit is due in 2026. Below you will find the verified figures, the subjects you need, how screening appears to work, a worked example, my advice on a safe score and the steps to secure admission.

The 150 is a gate. It decides who may take part in SUMAS screening for Electrical and Electronics Engineering. A departmental cut off is something different: the lowest score that actually got admitted into the course after screening. SUMAS has never released that number, so any website quoting a specific “SUMAS Electrical Engineering cut off” above 150 is guessing. The general minimum is reviewed every year after JAMB’s policy meeting, so check the 2027/2028 SUMAS notice when it comes out. A private directory lists 160 for SUMAS and also calls it a federal university; neither is correct.

Electrical and Electronics Engineering on the 2027/2028 supplementary list

On 17 October 2026, Myschool and FreshNote reported that SUMAS had opened supplementary admission for programmes that still had places. All six SUMAS engineering programmes were on it, including Electrical and Electronics Engineering. I could not find the notice on the SUMAS website, so treat the details as reported.

  • Who could apply: candidates with 150 or more in the 2026 UTME who chose SUMAS as first choice but missed admission into their course, and candidates willing to change their first choice to SUMAS.
  • Other programmes on the list: Architecture; Biomedical, Chemical, Civil, Computer and Mechanical Engineering; Health Administration and Hospital Management; Prosthetics and Orthotics; Dental Therapy; Dental Technology; Applied Microbiology; Biochemistry; Genetics and Biotechnology; ICT; Industrial Chemistry; Pure and Industrial Physics; Pharmacology; Human Physiology.
  • Not on the list: Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy, Medical Laboratory Science, Radiography, Physiotherapy, Nutrition and Dietetics, Public Health, Human Anatomy, Computer Science and Quantity Surveying.
  • Closing date: none was published in the reports.

The supplementary call came on 17 October, and SUMAS then released engineering admissions in Batch 2 on 21 October 2026. Opening the course to new applicants at that stage tells you SUMAS had more places than its main screening had filled. If you scored 150 or more in 2026 and you have the right subjects, this was a real chance.

Supplementary admission

No closing date was reported for the October 2026 SUMAS supplementary admission. If you want Electrical and Electronics Engineering this session, contact the SUMAS admissions office (08067390088 or admissionofficer@sumas.edu.ng) now, before the lists close.

Is Electrical and Electronics Engineering at SUMAS accredited?

Not yet. After its accreditation exercise of 28 October to 3 December 2025, the NUC granted full accreditation to 15 SUMAS programmes, which SUMAS described as all the programmes due for accreditation at that time. None of the engineering degrees were among them. SUMAS said its remaining programmes are due for NUC accreditation in 2026 and are waiting for the NUC to schedule the visit.

So “not yet accredited” here means the visit has not happened, which is normal for a programme that has not produced a graduating class. It does not mean the programme failed. The programme is approved by the NUC and is running.

COREN, the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria, accredits engineering degrees separately, and graduating from a COREN-accredited programme matters when you later register as an engineer. I found no published COREN accreditation for any SUMAS engineering programme. COREN’s own lists can lag behind, so ask the department about its COREN timeline at clearance.

UTME subjects and O’Level requirements for Electrical and Electronics Engineering

SUMAS follows the JAMB brochure for subject combinations. The table puts JAMB’s usual entry for Electrical/Electronics Engineering, as reproduced by Myschool, beside the SUMAS O’Level rule. Confirm the SUMAS line on the JAMB e-brochure before you register.

RequirementElectrical and Electronics Engineering
UTME subjectsUse of English, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry
O’Level (JAMB brochure)Five credits in English Language, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and one other science subject
O’Level (SUMAS rule)Five credits including English Language, Mathematics and Physics, plus two other relevant subjects
SittingsMaximum of two
Direct Entry (SUMAS rule)At least second class lower or its equivalent in OND, HND or a first degree, cleared on JAMB e-Facility
Direct Entry (JAMB brochure, general)Two A Level passes from Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry

Put the two rules together and the safe O’Level set is English Language, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and one more science. Further Mathematics, Technical Drawing or Biology are common choices for the fifth subject. Some universities accept a pass in English for engineering, but SUMAS lists English Language as a required credit, so do not count on that waiver here.

For Direct Entry, the SUMAS notice speaks of OND, HND and first degree holders and is silent on A Levels. If you hold an ND or HND in Electrical Engineering, ask SUMAS which level you will enter at. If you are coming in with A Levels or JUPEB, confirm the route before you buy any form.

Our JAMB Chemistry syllabus guide covers one of your four UTME papers.

How SUMAS screening works for Electrical and Electronics Engineering

SUMAS called its 2026/2027 Post-UTME a screening exercise. It did not publish a written test or a test date, and it has not said how it weighs your UTME score against your O’Level grades. A later notice told some admitted candidates who had skipped Post-UTME to register on SAMP, pay the screening fee and report to the ICT Unit for verification. That points to screening based on records, but SUMAS has not confirmed the method.

To show how your scores could combine, here is the 50/50 aggregate many Nigerian universities use. SUMAS has not published its formula. This is an illustration only.

  1. UTME part: your UTME score ÷ 8, maximum 50 points.
  2. O’Level part: points for your five relevant grades (A1 = 10, B2 = 9, B3 = 8, C4 = 7, C5 = 6, C6 = 5), maximum 50 points.
  3. Aggregate: add the two, out of 100.

Chukwuemeka scored 212 in the UTME. His WAEC result has A1 in Mathematics, B2 in Physics, B3 in Chemistry, C4 in English Language and B3 in Further Mathematics.

PartWorkingPoints
UTME212 ÷ 826.5
O’Level10 + 9 + 8 + 7 + 842
Total26.5 + 4268.5 out of 100

Look at the O’Level side. Under this kind of method, one grade step equals eight UTME marks. Strong Mathematics and Physics grades help an engineering candidate twice: they count in the aggregate, and they show the department you can cope with the first-year load.

How competitive is Electrical and Electronics Engineering at SUMAS?

On the evidence available, it is one of the more open SUMAS programmes this session. The course was opened to supplementary applicants in October 2026, which means SUMAS still had places to fill beyond its main screening. Medicine, Nursing, Pharmacy and Computer Science did not appear on that list.

SUMAS is a state university and has not published a quota, catchment states or ELDS states. The 45% merit, 35% catchment and 20% ELDS split you see quoted online is a federal university guideline, and SUMAS has not said it applies it. Being from Enugu State may or may not help; there is no published rule either way.

My advice (not an official figure): a UTME score of 190 or above, with credits in English, Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry at no more than two sittings, gives you a comfortable chance in Electrical and Electronics Engineering at SUMAS. Candidates nearer 150 still had a chance during the 2026/2027 supplementary exercise, because SUMAS was filling remaining places, but the higher your score, the less you depend on luck.

How to get admission into SUMAS Electrical and Electronics Engineering

  1. Get your JAMB profile code: text NIN, a space and your 11-digit NIN to 55019 or 66019 from the phone line linked to your NIN. Use the code to register for the UTME.
  2. Make SUMAS your first choice: choose State University of Medical and Applied Sciences, Igbo-Eno, and Electrical and Electronics Engineering. SUMAS screens first-choice candidates only, so if you picked another school, do a JAMB change of institution. The same applies if you are switching to SUMAS for the supplementary exercise.
  3. Upload your O’Level on CAPS: SUMAS needs your results on JAMB CAPS. The 2026 deadline for this was 15 August. Make sure all five required credits are there.
  4. Check the age rule: you had to be at least 16 years old by 30 September 2026.
  5. Register on the SUMAS portal: apply at sumas.edu.ng/apply or on samp.sumas.edu.ng, pay ₦2,000 with your JAMB registration number as the narration, and enter exactly the same JAMB number, date of birth, state of origin and course as on CAPS. SUMAS allows only one application.
  6. Check your admission: watch the SUMAS batch lists, then log in to JAMB e-Facility, open Check Admission Status and Access my CAPS, and confirm on SAMP.
  7. Accept and change course if needed: accept the offer on CAPS and print your JAMB admission letter. If SUMAS offers you Electrical and Electronics Engineering when you applied for another course, change your course on JAMB within three days, as the 2026/2027 notice required.
  8. Pay the acceptance fee: log in at eportal.sumas.edu.ng as NEW STUDENT with your JAMB number and SAMP password, generate the ₦50,000 acceptance fee invoice and pay only through the SUMAS Revenue Portal.

The full screening rules are in our SUMAS Post-UTME form 2026/2027 guide, and clearance is explained step by step in our SUMAS instructions to successful candidates post. Our JAMB CAPS guide explains what each CAPS status means.

What you study in Electrical and Electronics Engineering at SUMAS

Electrical and Electronics Engineering covers how electrical energy is generated, transmitted and used, and how electronic circuits and systems are designed. The early years are shared with other engineering students: mathematics, physics, chemistry, engineering drawing, workshop practice and computing. Later you move into circuit theory, electromagnetic fields, electrical machines, power systems, analogue and digital electronics, control engineering, telecommunications, instrumentation and measurement, and design projects. Students usually do an industrial attachment (SIWES) before the final year.

SUMAS has not published the duration of this programme. B.Eng. degrees in Nigeria usually run for five years for UTME entrants, so plan for that and confirm with the department. Classes hold at the Igbo-Eno campus in Udenu Local Government Area, Enugu State, on the Ninth Mile to Obollo-Afor road axis.

The only SUMAS fee schedule online is for 2022/2023, which charged Engineering students ₦251,400. No 2026/2027 schedule has been published, so treat that figure as a reference point and budget for the ₦50,000 acceptance fee on top.

Career paths after Electrical and Electronics Engineering

Graduates work in power generation and distribution companies, telecommunications, oil and gas, manufacturing, building services, renewable energy and solar installation, and electronics design and maintenance. Others move into software and embedded systems, control and automation, or postgraduate study. Registration as an engineer with COREN comes after graduation and relevant experience, which is why the department’s COREN status is worth asking about.

Common mistakes Electrical Engineering applicants make

  • Missing Chemistry: the JAMB entry needs Chemistry in both UTME and O’Level, so Biology or Economics in its place can disqualify you.
  • Relying on a pass in English: SUMAS lists English Language as a required credit.
  • Three sittings: SUMAS accepts results from no more than two sittings.
  • Course mismatch on CAPS: your course on CAPS has to match the course on the SUMAS portal and the course you are offered.
  • Paying agents: all SUMAS payments go through the official portals.

SUMAS cut off mark for Electrical Engineering: frequently asked questions
