The SUMAS cut off mark for Computer Science in 2026/2027 is 150 in the UTME. That is the general minimum the State University of Medical and Applied Sciences (SUMAS), Igbo-Eno, Enugu State, set for every programme in its 2026/2027 Post-UTME notice, and it was 150 in 2025/2026 as well. Unlike ICT and the engineering courses, Computer Science was not reopened on the SUMAS supplementary admission list in October 2026, which suggests its places were taken during main admission.
2027/2028 update: SUMAS cut-off marks usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the figures on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They come from the latest official notice (2026/2027). If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.
SUMAS has never published a departmental cut off for Computer Science, and there is no published aggregate formula, merit list with scores, catchment list or ELDS list. The good news is on accreditation: Computer Science is one of the 15 SUMAS programmes that received full NUC accreditation after the 2025 exercise. Below are the verified figures, how your aggregate might be worked out, the subjects you need, my advice on a safe score and practical preparation tips.

SUMAS cut off mark for Computer Science by session
| Session | Minimum UTME to apply | Departmental cut off | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2026/2027 | 150 | Not published | SUMAS Post-UTME and Direct Entry notice |
| 2025/2026 (previous year) | 150 | Not published | SUMAS notice as reproduced by Myschool, July 2025 |
The 150 only decides who may be screened. A departmental cut off would be the lowest score admitted into Computer Science after screening, and SUMAS has not released one for any year. If a site gives you a precise “SUMAS Computer Science cut off” above 150, ask where it came from. The general minimum is reviewed every year after JAMB’s policy meeting, so check the 2027/2028 SUMAS notice. A private directory lists 160 for SUMAS and also calls it a federal university; neither is right.
Is Computer Science at SUMAS accredited?
Yes. SUMAS announced that the NUC granted full accreditation to 15 of its programmes after the accreditation exercise held from 28 October to 3 December 2025, and Computer Science is on that list. ICT received the same status. That makes Computer Science one of the more established SUMAS programmes outside the health sciences.
Computing professionals in Nigeria register with the Computer Professionals (Registration Council of Nigeria), CPN. I found no published CPN accreditation of SUMAS Computer Science. CPN lists can lag behind, so ask the department at clearance if this matters to you.
UTME subjects and O’Level requirements for Computer Science
SUMAS follows the JAMB brochure for subject combinations. The table shows JAMB’s usual entry for Computer Science, as reproduced by Myschool, next to the SUMAS rule. Confirm the SUMAS line on the JAMB e-brochure before you register.
| Requirement | Computer Science |
|---|---|
| UTME subjects | Use of English, Mathematics, Physics, and one of Biology, Chemistry, Agricultural Science, Economics or Geography |
| O’Level (JAMB brochure) | Five credits including English Language, Mathematics and Physics, plus two other science subjects |
| O’Level (SUMAS rule) | Five credits including English Language, Mathematics and Physics, plus two other relevant subjects |
| Sittings | Maximum of two |
| Direct Entry (SUMAS rule) | At least second class lower or its equivalent in OND, HND or a first degree, cleared on JAMB e-Facility |
| Direct Entry (JAMB brochure, general) | Two A Level passes in science subjects including Mathematics; or NCE merit in Mathematics and one other subject |
For the fourth UTME subject, Chemistry is the safest choice. Several universities narrow JAMB’s list (some refuse Agricultural Science or Economics), and SUMAS has not published its own exceptions, so Chemistry removes the doubt. For O’Level, the brochure says two other science subjects, so English, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology is the cleanest set. Economics as one of the five may not count.
The SUMAS Direct Entry rule names OND, HND and degree holders and does not mention A Levels or NCE. If you hold an ND in Computer Science, confirm the entry level with SUMAS before you apply.
How the SUMAS aggregate score might work for Computer Science
SUMAS called its 2026/2027 Post-UTME a screening exercise and published no written test or date. It has not said how it combines UTME and O’Level grades into an aggregate. A later notice told some admitted candidates who skipped Post-UTME to register on SAMP, pay the screening fee and go to the ICT Unit for verification. That points to screening on records, though SUMAS has not confirmed it.
The 50/50 aggregate used by many Nigerian universities shows how the parts could combine. SUMAS has not published its formula; treat this as an illustration only.
- UTME part: your UTME score ÷ 8, maximum 50 points.
- O’Level part: five relevant grades scored A1 = 10, B2 = 9, B3 = 8, C4 = 7, C5 = 6, C6 = 5, maximum 50 points.
- Aggregate: the sum, out of 100.
Tobenna scored 224 in the UTME. His WAEC result has A1 in Mathematics, B2 in Physics, B3 in English Language, B3 in Chemistry and C4 in Biology.
| Part | Working | Points |
|---|---|---|
| UTME | 224 ÷ 8 | 28 |
| O’Level | 10 + 9 + 8 + 8 + 7 | 42 |
| Total | 28 + 42 | 70 out of 100 |
Under a method like this, one grade step in O’Level is worth eight UTME marks. A candidate with 200 in the UTME and straight B2s would score 25 + 45 = 70, the same as Tobenna. If your O’Level is strong, a slightly lower UTME score can still compete, and the reverse is also true.
How competitive is Computer Science at SUMAS?
More competitive than its neighbours in the Faculty of Natural and Applied Sciences. ICT, Biochemistry, Genetics and Biotechnology and Applied Microbiology were all reopened on the October 2026 supplementary list; Computer Science was not. Computer Engineering, the closest engineering course, was also on that list. The simplest reading is that Computer Science filled its places in the main exercise.
SUMAS has not published a quota, catchment states or ELDS states. The 45% merit, 35% catchment and 20% ELDS split quoted online is a federal university guideline, and SUMAS has not said it applies it.
My advice (not an official figure): aim for 200 or above in the UTME, with clean credits in English, Mathematics and Physics plus two sciences at no more than two sittings. A score in that range puts you in a safe position for Computer Science at SUMAS. Between 150 and 180, the course is a gamble; ICT is the closest alternative and was still taking supplementary applicants in October 2026.
Not on the supplementary list
Computer Science was not among the programmes SUMAS reopened in October 2026. If you missed it in 2026/2027, the official routes still open were ICT or Computer Engineering on the supplementary list, both needing 150 or more in the 2026 UTME and a course change on JAMB.
Preparation tips for SUMAS Computer Science
Since SUMAS has not published a written test, your UTME score and O’Level grades are the parts you control. These tips focus on them.
- Treat Mathematics as your main paper. It is required in the UTME and in O’Level, and it carries most of the first-year Computer Science load. Work through past questions topic by topic, not paper by paper.
- Do not neglect Physics. SUMAS requires a Physics credit for every course, and it is a compulsory UTME paper for Computer Science.
- Pick Chemistry as your fourth UTME subject unless you are much stronger in another listed subject. Our JAMB Chemistry syllabus guide shows what to cover.
- Fix your O’Level early. If you have a weak grade in Mathematics or Physics, a second sitting (WAEC or NECO) can lift it, but SUMAS allows only two sittings in total.
- Practise on a computer. The UTME is computer-based. Timed practice on a screen reduces surprises on exam day.
- Plan long study sessions properly. Our guide on how to study for long hours without losing concentration has practical routines.
- Learn some programming before you arrive. It is not an admission requirement, but students who have written simple programs settle into first-year courses faster.
How to get admission into SUMAS Computer Science
- Get your JAMB profile code: text NIN, a space and your 11-digit NIN to 55019 or 66019 from the line linked to your NIN, then use the code to register for the UTME.
- Make SUMAS your first choice: choose State University of Medical and Applied Sciences, Igbo-Eno, and Computer Science. SUMAS screens first-choice candidates only, so if you chose another school, do a JAMB change of institution.
- Upload your O’Level on CAPS: SUMAS screens using results on JAMB CAPS. The 2026 deadline was 15 August.
- Meet the age rule: at least 16 years old by 30 September 2026.
- Register on the SUMAS portal: apply at sumas.edu.ng/apply or on samp.sumas.edu.ng, pay ₦2,000 with your JAMB registration number as the narration, and enter the same JAMB number, date of birth, state of origin and course as on CAPS. Only one application is allowed.
- Check your admission: watch the SUMAS batch lists, then log in to JAMB e-Facility, open Check Admission Status and Access my CAPS, and confirm on SAMP.
- Accept, and change course if needed: accept the offer on CAPS and print your JAMB admission letter. If SUMAS offers you a different course, such as ICT, change your course on JAMB within three days, as the 2026/2027 notice required.
- Pay the acceptance fee: log in at eportal.sumas.edu.ng as NEW STUDENT with your JAMB number and SAMP password, generate the ₦50,000 acceptance fee and pay only through the SUMAS Revenue Portal.
The screening rules are in our SUMAS Post-UTME form 2026/2027 guide, and our SUMAS instructions to successful candidates post walks you through clearance. Our JAMB CAPS guide explains each CAPS status.
What you study in Computer Science at SUMAS
Computer Science is the study of computation: how to design algorithms, write and test software, organise data and build the systems that run them. The first year covers mathematics, physics, introductory programming and general studies courses. You then move into data structures and algorithms, object-oriented programming, computer architecture, operating systems, databases, networks, software engineering, theory of computation, artificial intelligence and computer security, with a final-year project. Students usually go on an industrial attachment (SIWES) before the final year.
SUMAS has not published the duration. B.Sc. Computer Science in Nigeria usually takes four years for UTME entrants, so plan for that and confirm with the department. You will study at the Igbo-Eno campus, Udenu Local Government Area, Enugu State.
The only SUMAS fee schedule online is for 2022/2023, which charged Applied and Natural Sciences students ₦251,400. No 2026/2027 fees have been published, so use it as a guide and add the ₦50,000 acceptance fee.
Career paths after Computer Science
Graduates work as software developers, data analysts, systems and network administrators, cybersecurity analysts, database administrators and IT support specialists, in banks, telecoms, health tech, government and start-ups. Others go on to a master’s degree, research or teaching. Health technology is a natural fit at a medical and applied sciences university, where you study close to the SUMAS Teaching Hospital.

SUMAS cut off mark for Computer Science: frequently asked questions
Is 200 enough for Computer Science in SUMAS? A 200 is well above the 150 minimum and is the score I suggest aiming for. SUMAS has no published departmental cut off, so no score guarantees admission.
Is Computer Science at SUMAS accredited? Yes. It is one of the 15 SUMAS programmes the NUC fully accredited after its exercise of 28 October to 3 December 2025.
Can I use Economics as my fourth UTME subject for SUMAS Computer Science? JAMB’s general entry allows it, but some universities do not accept it and SUMAS has not published its exceptions. Chemistry is the safer choice.
Was Computer Science on the SUMAS supplementary list? No. The October 2026 supplementary list included ICT and Computer Engineering but not Computer Science.
