SUMAS Human Anatomy Cut-Off Mark 2027/2028: Subject Combination, Requirements and Career Guide

SUMAS requires 150 in the UTME to apply for Human Anatomy in 2027/2028, with no published departmental cut off. Here are the subjects, O’level rules, screening, NUC accreditation, a safe target score and Anatomy careers.

The SUMAS cut off mark for Human Anatomy in 2026/2027 is 150 in the UTME. The State University of Medical and Applied Sciences (SUMAS), Igbo-Eno, set 150 as the minimum for all its programmes in its 2026/2027 Post-UTME and Direct Entry notice, and the figure was the same in 2025/2026. If you scored 150 or more, chose SUMAS first and had five O’level credits in no more than two sittings, you could apply.

2027/2028 update: SUMAS cut-off marks usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the figures on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They come from the latest official notice (2026/2027). If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.

SUMAS has not published a departmental cut off for Human Anatomy, for this year or any earlier one. It has not released an aggregate formula, a written test or a catchment list either. So the useful questions are what SUMAS actually requires, how strong the competition is, and what score keeps you safe. This guide answers those, then covers the course itself, its accreditation and where an Anatomy degree can take you.

The 150 is a gate, set before screening. A departmental cut off is the lowest score actually admitted into a course, and it only exists after SUMAS has ranked everyone. SUMAS posts its admission lists as masked JAMB numbers sorted by course, without scores, so there is no way to read the real Anatomy cut off from them.

How competitive is Human Anatomy at SUMAS?

Anatomy is a popular course, and part of the reason is Medicine. Many candidates who list Medicine first and miss it are offered Anatomy or Physiology instead, since both use the same UTME subjects. That pushes up the number of strong candidates competing for Anatomy seats.

The 2026/2027 lists give one useful clue. When SUMAS opened supplementary admission in mid October 2026 for programmes that still had space, Human Physiology was on the list and Human Anatomy was not. Anatomy filled during the main batches. The Basic Medical Sciences, Anatomy included, appeared on Batch 2 of the admission list on 21 October 2026.

What score should you aim for?

This is my advice, not a SUMAS figure. For Human Anatomy, I would treat 220 or more as a safe target, and 200 to 220 as a fair chance if your O’level grades are strong. Between 150 and 200 you can still apply, but I would have a backup course ready. Since Anatomy filled before the supplementary round and Physiology did not, I would expect Anatomy to need a few more points than Physiology.

SUMAS has published no catchment or ELDS list for any course, so do not plan on a lower score because of your state of origin.

UTME subjects and O’level requirements for SUMAS Human Anatomy

JAMB’s usual combination for Human Anatomy is Use of English, Biology, Chemistry and Physics. The JAMB brochure entry, as reproduced online, names a few universities with special remarks, and SUMAS is not among them, so the standard rule should apply. Check the e-brochure on your JAMB profile before you register.

RequirementHuman Anatomy at SUMAS
UTME subjectsUse of English, Biology, Chemistry, Physics
O’level creditsFive credits including English Language, Mathematics and Physics, plus two relevant subjects: Biology and Chemistry
SittingsNot more than two
Minimum UTME score150 in the 2026 UTME
AgeAt least 16 by 30 September 2026
ChoiceSUMAS as first choice on JAMB CAPS
Direct EntryAt least second class lower, or the equivalent in OND or HND, in a related field

SUMAS asks every applicant for credits in English, Mathematics and Physics, then two more relevant to the course. For Anatomy, Biology and Chemistry are the obvious two, and the JAMB brochure lists both. A credit means C6 or better. WAEC, NECO and NABTEB results are all accepted.

Direct Entry into Anatomy

SUMAS’s notice asks Direct Entry candidates in all programmes except Medicine for at least a second class lower, or the equivalent in an OND, HND or first degree. It does not list the A level or diploma subjects for Anatomy. The JAMB brochure’s general Direct Entry rule for Human Anatomy is two A level passes from Biology, Chemistry and Physics. Your awarding institution must also clear you on JAMB e-Facility before SUMAS can admit you.

How SUMAS screening works for Anatomy candidates

SUMAS did not publish a written Post-UTME test for 2026/2027. Its notice describes an online screening: register on the portal, pay ₦2,000 and submit your details. Its instructions tell admitted candidates who never did Post-UTME to register on the SAMP portal, pay the screening fee and get verified at the ICT Unit, which suggests a screening based on your records. SUMAS has not explained how it ranks candidates.

What it does check:

  • A UTME score of 150 or more in the 2026 UTME
  • SUMAS as your first choice
  • Five O’level credits, uploaded on JAMB CAPS (deadline 15 August 2026)
  • Matching details on JAMB and the SUMAS portal: registration number, date of birth, state of origin and course

Aggregate example (illustration only)

SUMAS has not published an aggregate formula. To show how UTME and O’level might interact, here is a method many Nigerian universities use: UTME ÷ 8 for up to 50 points, plus O’level points for five subjects (A1 = 10, B2 = 9, B3 = 8, C4 = 7, C5 = 6, C6 = 5) for up to 50. This is not SUMAS’s published method.

Adaeze scored 214 in the UTME. She has B2 in Biology, B3 in Chemistry, C4 in Physics, B3 in Mathematics and C5 in English, from two sittings.

PartWorkingPoints
UTME214 ÷ 826.75
O’level9 + 8 + 7 + 8 + 638
Aggregate26.75 + 3864.75 out of 100

If she had scored 230 with the same grades, her UTME part would rise to 28.75 and her total to 66.75. Turning her C4 in Physics and C5 in English into B3s would add 3 points, about the same as 24 extra UTME marks. If you are still writing WAEC or NECO, better grades there may be the cheapest way to gain ground.

What you study in Human Anatomy

Human Anatomy is the study of the structure of the human body. The B.Sc. at SUMAS is in the Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences, and the programme usually runs for 4 years in Nigeria. SUMAS has not published its own course outline online, so the list below describes what an NUC Anatomy curriculum normally covers.

  • Gross anatomy: the body region by region, often taught with cadaver dissection
  • Histology: tissues and cells under the microscope, and preparing slides
  • Embryology: how the body develops before birth, and the causes of birth defects
  • Neuroanatomy: the brain, spinal cord and nerves
  • Related sciences: physiology and biochemistry in the early years, then research methods and a final year project

The campus is at Igbo-Eno, Udenu Local Government Area, on the Ninth Mile to Obollo-Afor road. The only fee schedule on the SUMAS website is for 2022/2023, which put Basic Medical Sciences at ₦251,400. Use it as a rough guide. Your portal invoice decides what you pay.

Accreditation

Human Anatomy is one of the 15 SUMAS programmes that received full NUC accreditation in the exercise held from 28 October to 3 December 2025. That matters for NYSC mobilisation and for postgraduate admission later. Unlike Medicine or Nursing, an Anatomy degree does not lead to a clinical practising licence, so NUC accreditation is the main one to check.

Career paths with a Human Anatomy degree

Anatomy graduates work in teaching, research and health support roles. Common routes:

  • University teaching and research: with an M.Sc. and Ph.D., you can teach anatomy to medical, nursing and allied health students. New medical schools across Nigeria need anatomy lecturers.
  • Laboratory and histology work: preparing and examining tissue in research and hospital laboratories.
  • Forensic and mortuary science: often after further training.
  • Biomedical research and industry: pharmaceutical companies, research institutes and medical sales.
  • Graduate entry to Medicine: some universities take graduates into Medicine. SUMAS’s own Direct Entry route for Medicine needs a 2:1 in a related degree, which an Anatomy B.Sc. may count as.

If you want a clinical career, also look at the SUMAS posts on Medicine and Surgery, Physiotherapy and Medical Laboratory Science. The sister course is Human Physiology.

Steps to get admission into SUMAS Human Anatomy

The 2026/2027 screening closed on 4 October 2026. Here is the full process, from JAMB registration to accepting your place.

  1. Get a JAMB profile code: text NIN, a space and your 11-digit NIN to 55019 or 66019 from the line linked to your NIN. JAMB sends back your profile code.
  2. Register for the UTME with SUMAS first: pick Human Anatomy as your course and Use of English, Biology, Chemistry and Physics as your subjects. Our JAMB Biology syllabus guide lists the topics.
  3. Upload your O’level on CAPS: at a JAMB accredited CBT centre or online where JAMB allows it, before SUMAS’s deadline (15 August in 2026).
  4. Register for SUMAS screening: apply at sumas.edu.ng/apply or samp.sumas.edu.ng, pay ₦2,000 using your JAMB number as the narration, and make sure your course on the portal matches CAPS. Only one application is allowed. See our SUMAS Post-UTME form guide.
  5. Watch the admission batches: check the lists on the SUMAS website and your status on JAMB CAPS (efacility.jamb.gov.ng, then Check Admission Status, then Access my CAPS).
  6. Accept the offer on CAPS: then print your JAMB admission letter. If SUMAS offers you a different course, change your course on JAMB within 3 days, as the 2026/2027 Batch 2 notice required.
  7. Pay the ₦50,000 acceptance fee: generate it on eportal.sumas.edu.ng (NEW STUDENT, JAMB number and SAMP password) and pay on the SUMAS Revenue Portal.
  8. Complete clearance: online first, then with your Faculty Officer on campus. Our SUMAS admission list and clearance guide has the document list.

Mistakes that cost Anatomy applicants their place

  • Wrong UTME combination. Anatomy needs Biology, Chemistry and Physics. A score earned with the wrong subjects does not count.
  • SUMAS as second choice. In 2026/2027 SUMAS said it did not process applications from candidates who did not choose it first.
  • O’level not on CAPS. That was the other reason SUMAS gave for applications it did not process.
  • A different course on the portal and on JAMB. SUMAS asks for the programme to match.
  • Missing the 3-day window. Candidates moved to another course had three days to change it on JAMB.

SUMAS Human Anatomy cut off mark: frequently asked questions

Is 200 enough for Human Anatomy in SUMAS? It is well above the 150 minimum and gives you a fair chance, especially with good O’level grades. SUMAS has published no departmental cut off, so I would aim for 220 or more to feel safe.

Is Human Anatomy at SUMAS accredited? Yes. It was one of the 15 SUMAS programmes granted full NUC accreditation after the exercise held from 28 October to 3 December 2025.

Can I switch from Anatomy to Medicine in SUMAS later? SUMAS has published no internal transfer route from Anatomy to Medicine. The routes it does publish are a new UTME application for Medicine or, after graduation, Direct Entry into Medicine with at least a 2:1 in a related degree.

Does SUMAS accept two sittings for Human Anatomy? Yes. Human Anatomy, like every SUMAS programme except Medicine and Surgery, accepts O’level results from not more than two sittings.
