GOUNI Physics Education Cut-Off Mark 2027/2028 & Admission Requirements

GOUNI’s cut-off mark for Physics Education is 150 and the form is free. See the JAMB name, UTME subjects, the Chemistry credit rule, Direct Entry, fees, courses and careers.

The GOUNI Physics Education cut-off mark is 150 in the UTME. Godfrey Okoye University, Enugu lists 150 for its Faculty of Education programmes for 2026/2027, which is the national minimum for universities, and there is no separate higher score for Physics Education. The form costs nothing.

2027/2028 update: GOUNI cut-off marks usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the figures on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They come from the latest official notice (2026/2027). If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.

On JAMB the course appears for GOUNI as Education and Physics. GOUNI’s own curriculum calls the degree a B.Sc. Physics Education and asks for credits in English, Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry, plus one more science, in no more than two sittings. This guide sets out those rules, the UTME subjects to write, Direct Entry for NCE and A-level holders, how GOUNI decides, the fees and the courses you take, which include a few you will not see at other Enugu universities.

What score should you aim for? (my advice)

Physics Education is one of the least crowded courses in any Nigerian Faculty of Education, because strong Physics students tend to apply for Engineering or Medicine. My bands below are advice, not a GOUNI rule:

Your UTME scoreMy read for GOUNI Physics Education
Below 150Not eligible through UTME. JUPEB at GOUNI or NCE plus Direct Entry are the routes.
150 to 164Eligible and realistic if all four core credits (English, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry) are in place.
165 and aboveComfortable. ESUT and UNN (160 to screen) are open to you as well.

If you scored 150 to 175 after aiming for Engineering, Physics Education is a sensible switch. You keep the Physics and Mathematics you prepared, and the course includes electronics and energy content that leaves technical work open later.

UTME subject combination and O’level for Physics Education at GOUNI

JAMB’s brochure has no GOUNI remark for Education and Physics, so its general lines apply, and GOUNI’s curriculum adds its own detail. Where the two differ, meet the stricter one.

RequirementEducation and Physics at GOUNI
JAMB course nameEducation and Physics (Godfrey Okoye University)
UTME subjects, JAMB general lineUse of English and Physics, with Mathematics or Chemistry, plus one other subject
O’level, JAMB general lineFive credits including English, Physics, Mathematics and two other science subjects
O’level, GOUNI curriculumFive credits in not more than two sittings: English, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and one other relevant science, preferably Biology (Agricultural Science and Geography may be considered)
Direct Entry, GOUNI curriculumFive credits including English, Mathematics and Physics, two of them at A-level, through a merit diploma, A-level Physics with Mathematics, Chemistry or Biology, or an NCE in Physics with Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology or Computer Science
Direct Entry, JAMB general lineTwo A-level passes in Physics and Mathematics, or NCE credit or merit in relevant subjects
JUPEB at GOUNIPhysics, Mathematics and Chemistry

Which UTME subjects to write

Write English, Physics, Mathematics and Chemistry. JAMB’s general line is loosely worded, but this combination meets every reading of it, matches GOUNI’s JUPEB subjects and keeps you eligible for GOUNI’s Physics, Industrial Physics and Physics with Electronics if you change course.

O’level points to watch

  • Chemistry at credit: JAMB’s general line does not name it, but GOUNI’s curriculum does.
  • Fifth subject: Biology is the safe choice. Agricultural Science or Geography “may be considered”, which is not a promise.
  • Two sittings at most: the curriculum sets this limit.
  • Mathematics at credit: required by every source, including GOUNI’s form page.

Direct Entry, JUPEB and the NCE route

If you hold an NCE in Physics paired with Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology or Computer Science, or A-level Physics with one of those, you can come in through JAMB’s Direct Entry form. GOUNI’s curriculum sets 90 credit units for graduation for Direct Entry students in its Education programmes, against 120 for UTME entrants. Since JAMB’s June 2026 guide, colleges of education no longer admit anyone into 100 or 200 level degree programmes; everyone there enters through the NCE. That makes NCE then Direct Entry to a university such as GOUNI the normal path for teachers who start at a college.

GOUNI’s JUPEB programme is the other route for candidates who missed 150. The Physics Education subjects are Physics, Mathematics and Chemistry; the course runs nine to eleven months and the on-campus form is ₦10,000.

How GOUNI screens Physics Education applicants

GOUNI does not run a Post-UTME test for its undergraduate courses on the official form page. You fill an online form, the admissions office checks it against your UTME score and O’level, and the decision comes to your e-mail. Nothing on the page describes a written test, an interview or an aggregate score for Physics Education.

Aggregate formulaNot published

Because the reply comes by e-mail, use an address you open every day and type it with care. A single wrong letter and the offer never reaches you.

Worked example (illustrative)

There is no published aggregate formula, so this only checks score and subjects.

Obinna scored 163 in English, Physics, Mathematics and Chemistry. His WAEC (one sitting) has C4 in English, B3 in Mathematics, C5 in Physics, C6 in Chemistry, C5 in Biology and B2 in Civic Education.

  1. Score: 163 clears GOUNI’s 150 with room to spare.
  2. UTME subjects: they meet JAMB’s line and match the JUPEB set.
  3. O’level: English, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology at credit in one sitting. That is exactly what GOUNI’s curriculum asks for.
  4. Next step: fill the free form and accept the offer on CAPS when it appears.

Adaeze scored 176 but her credits are English, Mathematics, Physics, Biology and Geography, with D7 in Chemistry. Her score is higher than Obinna’s, yet she misses GOUNI’s Chemistry requirement. She should rewrite Chemistry at NECO or GCE, or ask GOUNI in writing whether it will accept her before paying anything.

Admission odds and advice

  • Low competition: qualified candidates at 150 and above have good odds.
  • Chemistry is the usual gap: fix it before you apply.
  • Make GOUNI your choice on JAMB: a change of institution costs little and avoids a lost offer.
  • Timing: JAMB set 30 November 2026 as the 2026/2027 admission deadline for private universities, and GOUNI repeated it in its news post of 12 May 2026. That window runs until 30 November 2026. A 2027 candidate should expect a similar date for 2027/2028, but JAMB announces it each year.

Who this course suits

I would point a student who likes practical work and explaining how things work toward Physics Education. Nigeria is short of Physics teachers, and GOUNI’s curriculum also prepares you to fix electronic devices, wire buildings and set up school laboratories, which gives you income options outside the classroom.

How to apply for Physics Education at GOUNI, step by step

  1. Get your JAMB profile code: send NIN, a space and your 11-digit NIN to 55019 or 66019 from the phone line linked to your NIN.
  2. Register the UTME correctly: choose Godfrey Okoye University and “Education and Physics”, and write English, Physics, Mathematics and Chemistry.
  3. Upload your O’level to CAPS: do it at a JAMB-accredited centre as soon as your WAEC or NECO result is out. GOUNI cannot propose you on CAPS until the result is there.
  4. Make GOUNI your institution: if you chose another university first, do a JAMB change of institution to GOUNI before admission lists are drawn up.
  5. Fill the GOUNI form: open the admission form page on gouni.edu.ng, pick your course from the Faculty of Education list and submit. The form costs nothing for Education courses.
  6. Check your e-mail: GOUNI says the decision comes within three working days.
  7. Accept on CAPS: log in at efacility.jamb.gov.ng, open Check Admission Status, then Access my CAPS, and accept within JAMB’s four-week window. Our JAMB CAPS guide explains each status you may see.
  8. Pay and clear: pay the acceptance fee through the university’s own online payment platform only, then print your JAMB admission letter for clearance.

How much is Physics Education at GOUNI? (last published fees)

GOUNI’s newest fee schedule I could find is the 2025/2026 session fees structure. The 2026/2027 schedule was not online when I checked, so treat these as a guide to the size of the bill, and expect some change.

Item (2025/2026)AmountNote
Physics Education tuition₦631,200First of four yearly figures in the Education table, under the heading “Tuition and accommodation fees”
Acceptance fee₦30,000100 level only
Matriculation fee₦20,000100 level only
Online course registration and ICT₦60,000Every level
Library fee₦20,000Listed in the general charges
Parents’ Forum fee₦10,000Listed in the general charges
Medical and drug test₦10,000100 to 300 level
Faculty and departmental fees₦5,000 and ₦3,000All faculties except Law

The schedule also lists smaller charges such as student affairs, sports, sanitation, entrepreneurship, health insurance and ID card fees. Tuition is paid per session: 60% in the first semester and the other 40% within three months of resumption. Other fees must be cleared before course registration. The document does not label which level each of the four Education figures belongs to, and it shows no separate hostel row, so ask the bursary what the tuition line covers before you budget.

Studying Physics Education at GOUNI

Is GOUNI Physics Education accredited?

  • GOUNI’s own statement: the accreditation page says all its programmes have NUC accreditation, with no list of programme results or dates.
  • Published curriculum: GOUNI’s B.Sc. Physics Education curriculum (September 2023) follows the NUC’s Core Curriculum and Minimum Academic Standards.
  • 2021 results: Physics Education was not in the 9 August 2021 Myschool list of 13 GOUNI programmes with full NUC accreditation, which only means it was not part of that list.
  • NUC publication: the NUC’s “Accreditation Results 1990 to 2025” document (September 2026) is online, but the copy I could read stops before universities starting with G, and I found no NUC report page that names a GOUNI Education programme.

I am treating its NUC status as not confirmed. I found nothing showing a denied or suspended result. Ask the admissions office by e-mail to confirm the current status before paying tuition.

What you study

You need 120 credit hours to graduate, 60 of them from Physics and Science Education courses, plus a pass in teaching practice and a project.

LevelMain courses (from GOUNI’s curriculum)
100 level (30 units)General Physics I to IV with two practicals, Elementary Mathematics I and II (Calculus), Introductory Biological Concepts and Fundamental Chemical Concepts for Physics Education, Introduction to Teaching, Sociology of Education in South-East Nigeria, Teaching of Structure of Matter
200 level (32 units)Modern Physics, Electric Circuits and Electronics, Waves and Optics, Thermal Physics, Energy and Environment, Workshop Practice, Radar Physics, Curriculum and Teaching Methods, Micro-teaching, Special Methods in Physics Education, Entrepreneurship
300 level (31 units)Teaching Practice I, Analytical Mechanics, Electromagnetism, Electromagnetic Waves and Optics, Quantum Physics, Statistical and Thermal Physics, Renewable Energy Sources, Laboratory Techniques in Physics Teaching, Educational Measurement and Research Methods
400 level (28 units)Teaching Practice II, Project, Quantum Mechanics, Mathematical Methods in Physics I and II, Physics Entrepreneurship, Curriculum Development in Science Education, Physics Laboratory Organisation, Teaching of Coal as a Source of Energy

The courses with GOUNI codes are the university’s own additions: Radar Physics, Renewable Energy Sources and the coal energy course, which fits Enugu’s history as the Coal City. GOUNI’s curriculum does not mention SIWES for this degree; the practical training is the two teaching practice placements.

Careers

The curriculum lists teaching Physics in secondary schools, founding or running a school, repair and installation businesses (phones, electronics, house wiring), setting up science laboratories and producing teaching materials. The radar course notes openings as technologists or data trackers in telecoms, aviation and oil and gas. Teaching posts need registration with the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria.

Mistakes that cost Physics Education applicants a GOUNI place

  • No Chemistry credit, which GOUNI’s curriculum requires.
  • O’level spread over three sittings.
  • Searching JAMB for “Physics Education” when the GOUNI entry is Education and Physics.
  • Ignoring GOUNI’s e-mail or using an address you rarely open.
