The Rhema University Economics cut-off mark 2027/2028 candidates should plan with is 150 in the UTME, JAMB’s national minimum for universities from the 2026 policy meeting. Rhema University, Aba has not published a separate cut-off for B.Sc. Economics, and it is not on the list of schools that declared their own cut-offs at that meeting. With 150 or more, Rhema as your choice and five suitable O’level credits, you can apply.
2027/2028 update: Rhema cut-off marks usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the figures on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They come from the latest official notice (2026/2027). If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.
Economics is one of the easier courses to qualify for at Rhema on paper: its O’level list is short and flexible, and Rhema has its own Direct Entry remark on the JAMB brochure that opens the door to several ND holders. It is still a mathematics-heavy degree, which surprises many arts students. This guide covers the official figures, a safe target score, subjects, Direct Entry, screening, a worked example, application steps and what the degree involves.

Rhema University is on Aba-Owerri Road, Aba, in Abia State. Ignore listings that put a “Rhema University” in Obeama-Asa, Rivers State; that is a mix-up, and this page is about the Aba university.
Rhema Economics cut-off history
| Session | Figure | What it is | Status |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2026/2027 | 150 | JAMB national minimum for universities | Official, JAMB 2026 policy meeting |
| 2025/2026 | 150 | JAMB national minimum for universities | JAMB 2025 policy meeting |
| Any session | None | Rhema-declared Economics cut-off | Not published in any source I reached |
You may still find a 2018/2019 “Rhema cut-off for all courses” list on blogs. It names no Rhema source, so treat it as unofficial and out of date.
Safe target score for Economics at Rhema (my advice)
Rhema does not say how many Economics candidates it takes or the lowest score it admitted. As a private university, it usually faces less competition than federal schools in the South-East. The table is my reading as an admissions adviser, not a Rhema rule.
| Your UTME score | My read for Rhema Economics |
|---|---|
| Below 150 | Not eligible through UTME |
| 150 to 159 | Eligible; apply early and make sure your O’level is on CAPS |
| 160 to 179 | Reasonable chance |
| 180 to 199 | Good chance |
| 200 and above | Strong |
My advice for the 2027 UTME is to aim for 180 or more. A strong Mathematics score matters twice: it lifts your UTME total, and it shows you can cope with the quantitative side of the degree.
UTME subject combination and O’level for Rhema Economics
| Requirement | Economics at Rhema |
|---|---|
| UTME subjects | Use of English, Economics, Mathematics, plus one of Government, History, Geography, Literature in English, French, or CRS/IRS |
| Rhema remark on JAMB brochure | Direct Entry only (see below); no special UTME or O’level remark |
| O’level | Five credits: English Language, Mathematics, Economics, plus relevant arts or social science subjects |
| Exams accepted | WASSCE or NECO SSCE |
| Sittings | Not stated for this course |
| Entry modes | UTME into 100 level; Direct Entry into 200 level |
Myschool’s reprint of the JAMB brochure lists Economics and Mathematics, plus any one of Government, History, Geography, Literature in English, French and Christian or Islamic Religious Studies, with Use of English compulsory. The brochure also states the general O’level rule as five credits in English, Mathematics, Economics and any two arts or social science subjects, which matches what Rhema’s admissions page says.
Is Mathematics compulsory for Economics?
Yes, in both places. JAMB lists Mathematics as a UTME subject for Economics, and Rhema asks for a Mathematics credit at O’level. A pass (D7 or E8) will not do. Arts students who dropped Mathematics in JAMB often end up registering Economics with the wrong combination, and JAMB will not let CAPS clear them for this course.
Choosing your fourth UTME subject
- Government: the most common choice; it overlaps with public finance and economic policy topics.
- Geography: useful if you came from the science or commercial class and already have it.
- Literature, CRS/IRS or History: allowed, and fine if that is your strongest arts subject.
- Physics, Chemistry or Commerce: not in the brochure list for the UTME, so do not register them as your fourth subject for Economics.
Direct Entry into Economics
Rhema admits Direct Entry candidates to 200 level with five O’level credits plus one of these:
- A-level GCE passes in at least two relevant subjects
- IJMB
- NCE in relevant subjects
- ND at upper credit in a relevant field
- HND at lower credit in a relevant field
- A first degree in a related field
The JAMB brochure has a Rhema-specific remark here, which is rare for this school. It says Rhema accepts an ND in Economics, Marketing, Business Administration, Banking and Finance or Accounting, or an NCE in Economics, plus the UTME requirements. In practice, that means your O’level must still meet the English, Mathematics and Economics credits listed above. The brochure’s general A-level rule is two passes in Economics and one of Mathematics, Statistics, Geography, Physics, Chemistry, Agricultural Science, Accounting, Business Management, History or Government, so make Economics one of your IJMB or JUPEB subjects.
Rhema post-UTME and screening for Economics
Rhema has not published a screening procedure for Economics in any source I reached. The one screening notice I could confirm, reprinted by Myschool on 10 September 2025, was for MBBS and Nursing candidates. It held on 16 September 2025 at the Academic Block in Aba, with extra centres in Abuja (Gwarimpa) and Lagos (Ojodu Berger), and candidates were told to bring a passport photograph and writing materials.
Some blogs say every Rhema applicant sits a computer-based test. They cite no notice from the university, and one of them quotes two different form prices. For Economics, apply on the portal as soon as it opens and phone the admissions office to ask if a test is planned.
Worked example (illustrative only)
No aggregate formula has been published by Rhema. Here I measure two candidates against the 150 floor and my 180 target, and, in case Rhema sets a test, I use the 50:50 method common at Nigerian universities: UTME divided by 8, plus half the screening percentage. This is my illustration, not Rhema’s method.
- Ifeoma: UTME 205, which is 55 above the floor. Credits in English, Mathematics, Economics, Government and Literature from one sitting.
- If there is a test: Ifeoma scores 55%. 205 ÷ 8 = 25.6, plus 27.5, gives an illustrative aggregate of 53.1.
- Tobenna: UTME 176 (22) and 70% at screening (35), for 57. A good test score would put him ahead.
- Ngozi (Direct Entry): ND upper credit in Accounting with credits in English, Mathematics and Economics. Under Rhema’s brochure remark she is a Direct Entry candidate for 200 level and does not need a UTME score, but she must still register for Direct Entry with JAMB.
Is Economics at Rhema right for you?
Economics graduates are trained to explain prices, jobs, inflation, exchange rates and government budgets with data. That makes it a strong base for many careers, but the course has a side that catches students out.
| You will probably enjoy Economics if | You may struggle if |
|---|---|
| You liked Economics and Mathematics in SS3 | You avoided Mathematics after JSS |
| You follow news on the naira, fuel prices or the budget | You want a purely professional course with a set exam path like ICAN |
| You are comfortable with graphs and simple statistics | You dislike reading long arguments and theory |
| You may want a master’s degree or a policy job later | You want a narrow vocational job straight after school |
If you prefer a more practical money course, compare our Rhema Banking and Finance guide, which has a stricter O’level list but a clearer banking career route.
How to apply for Economics at Rhema, step by step
- Get your JAMB profile code: send NIN, a space and your 11-digit NIN to 55019 or 66019 from the phone line linked to your NIN. JAMB replies with the profile code you use to buy the UTME form.
- Register the UTME: pick Economics with Use of English, Economics, Mathematics and one of Government, History, Geography, Literature in English, French or CRS/IRS, and choose Rhema University. If you already chose another school, do a JAMB change of institution; if you registered a different course, see our JAMB change of course guide.
- Upload your O’level to CAPS: go to a JAMB office or accredited CBT centre with your WAEC or NECO result. If you used two sittings, upload both. Without this upload, Rhema cannot send you an offer.
- Apply on Rhema’s portal: on rhemauniversity.edu.ng, open Admissions, click “Apply Now”, sign in, fill the form for Economics and print the acknowledgement slip.
- Confirm any screening: call 08107159322 or 08076846648 and ask whether Economics candidates sit a test or interview that year, and where.
- Accept on CAPS: log in at efacility.jamb.gov.ng, choose Check Admission Status, then Access my CAPS, and accept the offer. JAMB gave candidates four weeks to accept in 2026. Our JAMB CAPS guide explains every status you might see.
- Pay acceptance and clear: Rhema does not publish its acceptance fee in any source I reached. Get the amount from the university itself, pay only into its official account, then go for clearance with your original documents.
Warning
Blogs quote different prices for Rhema’s admission form, and some carry “admission” adverts with email addresses that are not Rhema’s. Pay only what Rhema’s own portal or admissions office tells you, ignore agents who promise a place, and remember that a genuine offer always shows on JAMB CAPS.
Studying Economics at Rhema University
Rhema University is a private Christian university in Aba, established in 2010 according to its own news page. It awards a B.Sc. in Economics. The admissions page does not give the duration or name the college that runs it; in Nigeria the degree normally takes four years through UTME and three through Direct Entry.
Accreditation
Rhema’s admissions page says all its courses are accredited by the National Universities Commission and relevant professional bodies. I could not find a published NUC accreditation result for B.Sc. Economics at Rhema, so treat the current status as not confirmed and ask the department before you pay.
What you study
- 100 level: principles of economics, mathematics for economists, introductory statistics, accounting and general studies.
- Theory: microeconomics and macroeconomics at intermediate and advanced levels, and the history of economic thought.
- Quantitative courses: statistics, mathematical economics and econometrics, where you learn to test ideas with real data.
- Applied areas: money and banking, public finance, international trade, development economics, labour and agricultural economics.
- Final year: electives and a research project, often on a Nigerian economic question.
Careers after Economics
Economics graduates work as analysts in banks and investment firms, in research and planning units of government ministries and agencies, in development organisations and NGOs, in consulting, and in journalism and business media. Many go on to a master’s degree, an MBA or professional finance exams.

Mistakes Economics applicants make
- Registering without Mathematics: it is a required UTME subject for Economics.
- A pass, not a credit, in Mathematics: Rhema asks for a credit.
- Picking Commerce or a science as the fourth UTME subject: check it against the brochure list first.
- ND holders forgetting the O’level: Rhema’s remark says ND or NCE plus the UTME requirements.
- Not uploading O’level to CAPS: Rhema cannot offer you a place without it.

Sources and updates
The O’level requirement, Direct Entry options, 200-level entry, the “Apply Now” route, the number 08076846648 and Rhema’s general accreditation statement come from Rhema University’s admissions page (undated, checked 29 October 2026). The UTME subjects, general O’level and A-level rules and the Rhema Direct Entry remark (ND in Economics, Marketing, Business Administration, Banking and Finance or Accounting, or NCE in Economics, plus UTME requirements) come from Myschool’s reprint of the JAMB brochure entry for Economics, checked 29 October 2026. The MBBS and Nursing screening of 16 September 2025 and the number 08107159322 are from Myschool’s reprint of Rhema’s notice (10 September 2025). The national minimum of 150 and the four-week CAPS window are from the News Agency of Nigeria (11 May 2026); News Central’s list of declared cut-offs from that meeting does not include Rhema. The safe target score, worked example and suitability table are my advice. Checked on 29 October 2026; this page will be updated if Rhema publishes an Economics cut-off or screening notice.
