The Caritas University Psychology cut-off mark is 150 in the UTME in practice. Caritas’s admissions page invites candidates with 140 and above, but JAMB’s 2026 minimum for universities is 150, and no university can admit below it through CAPS. Caritas has not published a separate figure for Psychology and does not run a written Post-UTME test.
2027/2028 update: Caritas University cut-off marks usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the figures on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They come from the latest official notice (2026/2027). If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.
Psychology is on JAMB’s Caritas list as Psychology and on Caritas’s own 2026/2027 list in the Faculty of Management and Social Sciences. JAMB’s brochure has no Caritas remark for it, so the broad general line applies: any three Arts or Social Science subjects. That freedom is a trap if you also plan to apply to UNN or ESUT, which both ask for Biology in their remarks. The NUC’s 1990 to 2025 results show Caritas Psychology at Full accreditation with a maturity date of 2030. Below is how to choose subjects that work for Caritas and keep other doors open, plus the O’level, screening, a safe target score and the CAPS steps.

Caritas Psychology cut-off mark history
| Session | Figure | What it is | Status |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2026/2027 | 140 and above | Caritas’s stated minimum for all applicants | Official Caritas admissions page, read 30 October 2026 |
| 2026/2027 | 150 | JAMB minimum for all universities | Official (JAMB policy meeting, 11 May 2026) |
| 2025/2026 (as titled) | 140 | Caritas admission notice signed by the Registrar, M. I. Onwuka | Official, but the text is carried over from older years |
| 2025/2026 | 150 | JAMB minimum for universities | Reported by Nairametrics, 8 July 2025 |
The notice titled for 2025/2026 still refers to the “2019 JAMB UTME” and a closing date of 15 February 2025, so it is old text that Caritas keeps reposting. I use it only for two points that have stayed constant: the 140 figure and the statement that there is no Post-UTME screening test. Blogs such as O3schools (January 2026) and Studentship repeat both points.
Psychology is not named in either Caritas document. The 140 is a single figure for the whole university, and JAMB’s 2026 decision has replaced it with 150 for any admission handled on CAPS.
Score warning
Caritas’s admissions page still says candidates with 140 and above can apply. JAMB’s 2026 minimum for every university is 150, and JAMB has said admissions outside CAPS are illegal, so a UTME score from 140 to 149 cannot give you a valid Caritas admission. Do not pay any agent who promises to “process” one.
Safe target score for Psychology at Caritas (my advice)
Psychology has grown popular with candidates who once aimed for Medicine or Nursing and with arts students drawn to counselling and human resources. UNN and ESUT both set 160 as the score to apply for 2026/2027. Caritas uses one figure for everyone and has no test, so meeting the floor with the right subjects is what counts. I set my target at 175: high enough to give you a margin and to keep a public university open as a second choice.
| Your UTME score | My read for Caritas Psychology |
|---|---|
| Below 150 | Not eligible through UTME this session; look at JUPEB or Direct Entry |
| 150 to 174 | Eligible; apply early and get your O’level onto CAPS |
| 175 to 199 | Comfortable for Caritas |
| 200 and above | Strong; UNN and ESUT are realistic too if your subjects fit their remarks |
My target for a 2027 candidate is 175 or more.
UTME subject combination and O’level for Psychology at Caritas
JAMB’s Psychology entry has a long list of special remarks for individual universities, from UNN and ESUT to GOUNI, UNILAG and OAU. Caritas is not among them. That leaves JAMB’s general line for the UTME and Caritas’s faculty list for O’level.
| Requirement | JAMB general line (Myschool reprint) | What Caritas adds |
|---|---|---|
| UTME | Any three subjects from Arts or Social Science | Nothing; use the general line |
| O’level | Five credits in Government or History, English Language and three other subjects, with a pass in Mathematics | Faculty list: English, Mathematics, Economics and any other two subjects |
| Direct Entry | Two A-level passes including Government or History | Nothing published |
The O’level and Direct Entry lines above are as Myschool’s reprint shows them. They match JAMB’s Political Science wording closely, which is unusual for Psychology, so confirm them on JAMB’s own e-brochure when you register.
Choosing UTME subjects: Caritas only, or Caritas plus a backup?
For Caritas alone, any three Arts or Social Science subjects fit. Economics, Government and Literature in English, or Economics, Government and CRS, both work.
The problem appears if you also want UNN or ESUT, or need to switch your choice later. JAMB’s remarks for those universities say:
- UNN: Biology and any other two subjects in the UTME, and an O’level credit in Biology or Health Science.
- ESUT: Biology or Agricultural Science and any two other Social Science or Arts subjects in the UTME.
- GOUNI: O’level credits in English, Mathematics and Biology plus two other subjects, in one sitting.
So a combination such as Biology, Economics and Government fits Caritas’s broad line (as long as Caritas accepts Biology as one of the three, which you should confirm), and also matches UNN’s and ESUT’s remarks. If you choose purely arts subjects, you are locked into universities without a Biology rule. I would include Biology unless you are certain Caritas is your only target.
The five O’level credits
Caritas’s own rule for the Faculty of Management and Social Sciences asks for credits in English, Mathematics and Economics plus two other subjects, in not more than two sittings. WAEC, NECO and NABTEB can be combined. For Psychology I would make the two others Biology and Government. Biology covers the remarks at other Enugu universities and helps in the course itself, which includes biological psychology. Government covers the general JAMB line as Myschool shows it.
Direct Entry
JAMB has no Caritas remark for Psychology Direct Entry. UNN’s remark accepts a wide range (diplomas, NCE, ND, HND, degrees and nursing qualifications), and ESUT accepts two A-level passes from Arts, Science or Social Science. Caritas has not said which of these it accepts, so ask in writing. Caritas runs its own JUPEB programme for 2026/2027, which is the clearest way in if your UTME score falls short.
How Caritas screens Psychology applicants
| Detail | What is known for 2026/2027 |
|---|---|
| Advert | “Admission ongoing for 2026/2027 session” on the Caritas admissions page |
| Who can apply | Candidates with 140 and above, whether or not Caritas was their first choice (150 is the real floor) |
| Written Post-UTME test | None, according to Caritas’s admission notice |
| Awaiting result | Allowed if the result is available by resumption |
| Form fee, closing date, aggregate formula | Not published on the pages read |
| Student loan | The admissions page links to the NELFUND portal (portal.nelf.gov.ng); check your own eligibility there |
| JAMB deadline for private universities (2026/2027) | 30 November 2026 |
The no-test statement comes from a notice Caritas has reposted with old dates, so read it as long-standing practice. Check the admissions page for any 2027/2028 change before you pay for anything.
Worked example
These figures are illustrative. Caritas publishes no aggregate, so the checks are JAMB’s floor, my target and the O’level.
Nneka scored 188 with Biology, Economics and Government. Her WAEC result has C4 in English, C5 in Mathematics, B3 in Economics, C4 in Biology and B2 in Government.
- JAMB floor: 188 minus 150 = 38. Eligible.
- Against my target: 188 minus 175 = 13. Comfortable.
- UTME subjects: fits Caritas’s broad line if Biology is accepted as one of the three, and matches the UNN and ESUT remarks as a backup.
- O’level: English, Mathematics and Economics credits plus Biology and Government. She meets Caritas’s faculty list.
- Next step: apply, upload her result to CAPS and accept the offer quickly.
Now take Uchenna, who scored 158 with Literature, Government and CRS, and has credits in English, Mathematics, Literature, Government and CRS but only a pass in Economics. His UTME fits Caritas’s line, but Caritas’s faculty list names Economics. He should add an Economics credit at a second sitting or confirm in writing that Caritas will accept him without it. His 158 also rules out UNN’s and ESUT’s 160.
Admission odds and advice
- Economics at O’level: Caritas’s faculty list names it. Many Psychology candidates come from the science side and do not have it.
- Biology keeps options open: include it if you want UNN, ESUT or GOUNI as a second choice.
- Put Caritas first on JAMB: Caritas takes candidates who did not, but you still need a change of institution before CAPS can move the offer.
- Know the 2026/2027 date: JAMB set 30 November 2026 as the admission deadline for private universities in the current session.
Psychology at other Enugu universities
| University | Minimum UTME score (2026/2027) | Our guide |
|---|---|---|
| Caritas University, Amorji-Nike | 150 (JAMB floor; Caritas says 140) | This page |
| UNN, Nsukka | 160 to apply for screening | UNN Psychology cut-off mark |
| ESUT, Agbani | 160 | ESUT Psychology cut-off mark |
How to apply for Psychology at Caritas, step by step
- Profile code: text NIN, a space and your 11-digit NIN to 55019 or 66019 from the phone line registered with your NIN, then use the code to register.
- UTME registration: choose Caritas University and “Psychology”, and write Use of English and three Arts or Social Science subjects (I suggest Biology, Economics and Government).
- O’level on CAPS: upload your WAEC, NECO or NABTEB result at a JAMB-accredited centre as soon as it is out. CAPS cannot show you to Caritas without it.
- Caritas application: go to the admissions page on caritasuni.edu.ng, use the application link or the “Contact admissions” option, and apply for Psychology. Caritas has not published the 2026/2027 form price, so pay only the amount the official portal shows and keep the receipt.
- Screening: there is no written Post-UTME test on record. Expect Caritas to check your UTME score, subjects and O’level, and bring originals if you are called for document screening.
- Accept on CAPS: log in at efacility.jamb.gov.ng, open Check Admission Status, then Access my CAPS, and accept the offer once it appears. Our JAMB CAPS guide shows every screen.
- Acceptance and school fees: Caritas says its fees were revised but publishes no amounts. Pay only into the account on your official Caritas invoice, then print your JAMB admission letter.
Studying Psychology at Caritas University
Accreditation
The NUC’s Accreditation Results 1990 to 2025 publication (September 2026) lists Psychology under Caritas, in the Social Sciences discipline, with results reading Full, Interim, Full, Full and Full and a maturity date of 2030. A 2027 entrant would graduate within that period. I did not find a separate NUC report page for this programme.
Degree, duration and what you study
Caritas awards a B.Sc. Psychology. The degree normally runs four years from 100 level, and Caritas has not published a different length. A typical progression:
- 100 level: introduction to psychology, introductory sociology and economics, basic statistics, biology for social sciences where offered, and general studies.
- 200 level: developmental psychology, social psychology, experimental psychology, personality and research methods.
- 300 level: biological and physiological psychology, abnormal psychology, psychological testing, industrial and organisational psychology, and laboratory work.
- 400 level: clinical and counselling psychology, health psychology, cognitive psychology, advanced statistics and a research project.
Careers
A first degree in Psychology leads to work in human resources and recruitment, counselling support in schools and NGOs, market and social research, advertising, child welfare and the prisons and correctional service. Becoming a clinical psychologist who treats patients usually needs a master’s degree and supervised clinical training after the B.Sc., so treat the first degree as the start of that path.

Mistakes that cost Psychology applicants a Caritas place
- Relying on 140: JAMB’s 150 is the floor for CAPS.
- No Economics credit: Caritas’s faculty list names it.
- Copying UNN’s or ESUT’s subjects without checking Caritas: confirm that Caritas accepts Biology as one of your three UTME subjects.
- Mathematics below credit: Caritas asks every candidate for a credit.
- Not uploading O’level to CAPS: no upload, no offer.
Caritas Psychology cut-off mark: frequently asked questions
What is the cut-off mark for Psychology at Caritas University? Plan with 150, JAMB’s 2026 minimum for universities. Caritas’s website says 140, which is below that floor, and there is no departmental figure.
Do I need Biology to study Psychology at Caritas University? JAMB has no Caritas remark requiring it, and the general line accepts any three Arts or Social Science subjects. Biology is still worth taking because UNN, ESUT and GOUNI ask for it.
Can a science student study Psychology at Caritas? Yes, but check your O’level: Caritas’s faculty list asks for credits in English, Mathematics and Economics, which many science students lack.
Is Psychology at Caritas University accredited? Yes. The NUC’s 1990 to 2025 results list it as Full with a maturity date of 2030.
Sources and updates
The 150 minimum, the 30 November 2026 deadline for private universities and the warning that admissions outside CAPS are illegal come from JAMB’s 2026 policy meeting as reported by the News Agency of Nigeria (11 May 2026). The 2025 minimum is from Nairametrics (8 July 2025). Caritas’s 140 figure, the statement that first-choice and other candidates may apply, the awaiting-result rule and the faculty O’level lists come from the Caritas University admissions page, read on 30 October 2026. The no-test statement comes from Caritas’s admission notice signed by the Registrar, M. I. Onwuka, with O3schools and Studentship as secondary confirmation. The course name comes from Myschool’s reprint of JAMB’s Caritas course list and the subject rules from the brochure entry for Psychology, which has no Caritas remark but names UNN, ESUT and GOUNI, both checked on 30 October 2026. Accreditation is from the NUC’s Accreditation Results 1990 to 2025 (September 2026). The UNN and ESUT figures come from their 2026/2027 notices covered in our linked guides. Safe target scores and worked examples are my own advice, not Caritas figures. Checked on 30 October 2026; this page will be updated when Caritas or JAMB publishes 2027/2028 figures.
