IMT Agricultural Engineering Technology Cut-Off Mark 2027/2028 and Admission Requirements

The IMT Agricultural Engineering Technology cut off mark is JAMB’s polytechnic minimum of 100; IMT publishes no departmental figure. See the safe target score, UTME subjects, IMT’s Agricultural Science option, O’level rules, screening and CAPS steps.

The IMT Agricultural Engineering Technology cut off mark is 100 in the UTME, JAMB’s national minimum for polytechnics for 2026/2027. The Institute of Management and Technology (IMT), Enugu, has not published a separate cut-off for Agricultural Engineering, so 100 is the official floor and the safest figure for 2027/2028 planning.

2027/2028 update: IMT cut-off marks usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the figures on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They come from the latest official notice (2026/2027). If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.

By my reading, Agricultural Engineering is the least crowded engineering course at IMT, and JAMB’s brochure lets IMT candidates sit Agricultural Science as a UTME subject. You will also see the course under two names. Below are the official figures, where the old 120 comes from, my safe target score, the brochure subjects, how screening has run, two worked examples and each CAPS step.

IMT cut-off mark history for Agricultural Engineering

IMT does not publish course-by-course cut-off marks for its ND programmes. The history below is the national floor that applies to every polytechnic, plus one older IMT figure that still circulates on blogs.

SessionFigureWhat it isStatus
2026/2027100JAMB national minimum for polytechnics and monotechnicsOfficial (NAN, 11 May 2026)
2025/2026100JAMB national minimum for polytechnicsOfficial (Nairametrics and Channels TV, 8 July 2025)
2023 UTME120IMT’s own ND screening threshold in a 2023 noticeOld; reprinted on blogs under 2026 headings

The 120 you will see on many blogs comes from IMT’s 2023 ND screening notice, signed by the Registrar at the time. Some sites now print it under 2026/2027 headings, but no 2026 IMT notice repeats it. The figure that has held for two sessions running is JAMB’s 100. For Agricultural Engineering, scores close to the national floor have a realistic chance, which is less true of the other engineering courses.

Safe target score for Agricultural Engineering at IMT (my advice)

The bands below are my judgement as an admissions adviser. IMT has not published anything like them, so use them for planning only.

Your UTME scoreMy read for Agricultural Engineering at IMT
Below 100Not eligible for any polytechnic, IMT included
100 to 119Eligible, with a fair chance if your science credits are good
120 to 139Competitive
140 and aboveStrong for Agricultural Engineering at IMT

I place Agricultural Engineering at the lower end of demand among IMT’s engineering courses, because far fewer candidates list it first than Civil or Electrical/Electronics. IMT has not published applicant numbers, so this is my reading of the general pattern at South East polytechnics. For the 2027 UTME I would aim for at least 120, ideally 140.

That makes it a sensible choice if you want an engineering ND and expect a modest score, as long as you are genuinely interested in farm machinery, irrigation and crop processing.

Catchment and state of origin

IMT is owned by Enugu State, so Enugu indigenes are its home catchment, but it admits candidates from every state. IMT has not published a merit, catchment or quota split for its ND courses, so do not plan around a formula it has never announced. Your UTME score, your science grades at O’level and how early your documents are complete count for more.

IMT Agricultural Engineering Technology subject combination and O’level requirements

RequirementAgricultural Engineering Technology (ND) at IMT
UTME subjectsUse of English, Mathematics and Physics or Technical Drawing, with Chemistry; the brochure also allows any two science subjects with Mathematics
IMT remark in the brochureIMT accepts Agricultural Science as a UTME subject (IMT-ENU)
O’levelFive credits in Mathematics, English Language and Physics, plus any two of Biology or Agricultural Science, Chemistry, Technical Drawing, Basic Electronics or Basic Electricity, Auto Mechanics, Metal Work, Further Mathematics, Food and Nutrition, Geography
Combination I would registerEnglish, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry
Exams acceptedWAEC, NECO or NABTEB (SSCE or GCE)
Direct EntryNot used for ND. HND entry is with a relevant ND through IMT’s HND form
Special requirementsNone published for IMT

JAMB’s brochure wording for Agricultural Engineering/Technology is loose: Mathematics and Physics or Technical Drawing, Chemistry, or any two science subjects. Use of English is compulsory for every candidate. The plain reading is Mathematics plus Physics (or Technical Drawing) plus Chemistry, with some flexibility for other sciences. I would register English, Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry, which satisfies every reading.

The O’level list is friendlier than for other engineering courses. Chemistry is optional here: the fixed credits are Mathematics, English Language and Physics, and the other two can come from Agricultural Science, Biology, Chemistry, Technical Drawing, Food and Nutrition, Geography and the technical subjects. A Physics credit is the one you cannot do without.

IMT’s Agricultural Science option and the two course names

The only IMT remark on the Agricultural Engineering/Technology brochure page says IMT accepts Agricultural Science as a UTME subject. So English, Mathematics, Physics and Agricultural Science is a valid combination at IMT. If you farm or studied Agriculture in school, this helps. Keep Physics in the UTME either way.

JAMB’s list of IMT courses, as reprinted by Myschool, carries both Agricultural Engineering/Technology and Agricultural and Bio-Environmental Engineering/Technology. The second brochure entry has the same UTME and O’level requirements but no IMT remark. IMT’s faculty page names the department Agric Engineering in one place and Agricultural and Bioenvironmental Engineering in another, so I treat these as one programme. When you register, pick whichever one JAMB’s portal shows under IMT Enugu, and if both appear, choose Agricultural Engineering/Technology, because that is the entry with IMT’s Agricultural Science remark.

Direct Entry and HND

There is no Direct Entry into the first year of an ND, so every ND Agricultural Engineering place goes through the UTME and JAMB CAPS. HND Agricultural Engineering is a separate stage: reprints of IMT’s HND notice ask for a relevant ND with a CGPA of at least 2.50, or a lower CGPA backed by two years of verifiable industrial experience, and the application goes through IMT’s own HND form rather than the UTME. Those HND details come from reprints, so confirm them on the portal. Our IMT HND admission guide covers that route.

How IMT screening works for ND Agricultural Engineering

IMT’s website links a notice titled “Call for 2026/2027 admission into ND and HND programs (regular and part-time)”, and applications run through the SLMS application page on portal.imt.edu.ng. The admission result checker is on the same portal. The 2026/2027 screening fee, dates and test format were not in any official source I could open, so the table separates what is confirmed from what is only reported.

Worked example for an Agricultural Engineering applicant

IMT has not published an aggregate formula for ND admission. Some blogs print one, but none cites an IMT document, so the example below only measures the gap between a UTME score, the national floor and my safe target, then checks the O’level against the brochure.

Take Chika, who scored 131 after registering English, Mathematics, Physics and Agricultural Science. From one NECO sitting she has C5 in English, C6 in Mathematics, C4 in Physics, B2 in Agricultural Science and C5 in Biology.

  1. Eligibility: 131 minus 100 = 31. She is clear of JAMB’s polytechnic minimum.
  2. UTME subjects: Agricultural Science is accepted by IMT for this course under the brochure remark.
  3. Against my safe target: 131 minus 120 = 11. She is in the competitive band.
  4. O’level check: English, Mathematics and Physics, plus Agricultural Science and Biology, five credits at one sitting.

Obinna scored 108 with English, Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry. He has credits in English, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Technical Drawing over two WAEC sittings. On score, 108 minus 100 = 8, so he can apply, and he is 12 marks below my target. Agricultural Engineering is one of the few engineering courses where I would still back that score, provided his O’level is complete on CAPS before IMT screening closes.

How to apply for Agricultural Engineering Technology at IMT, step by step

  1. Get your JAMB profile code: send NIN, a space and your 11-digit NIN to 55019 or 66019 from the phone line linked to your NIN.
  2. Register for the UTME: choose Agricultural Engineering Technology with English, Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry (or Agricultural Science in place of Chemistry), and pick IMT Enugu as your polytechnic choice. If you picked another school, do a JAMB change of institution before IMT screening closes.
  3. Upload your O’level to CAPS: go to an accredited CBT centre and have your WAEC, NECO or NABTEB result uploaded. If your result was awaiting at registration, upload it as soon as it is out.
  4. Watch IMT’s notice: the admission call appears on imt.edu.ng and the form opens on portal.imt.edu.ng. Use only the official portal.
  5. Fill the screening form and pay: enter your JAMB registration number, generate the invoice, pay through the channel the portal names, then finish the form and print your slip.
  6. Check your result and CAPS: use the result checker on portal.imt.edu.ng, then log in at efacility.jamb.gov.ng, choose Check Admission Status and open CAPS.
  7. Accept within four weeks: JAMB set four weeks for 2026 offers. Our JAMB CAPS guide explains every status you might see.
  8. Pay acceptance and clear: blogs put IMT’s acceptance fee at ₦25,000, but IMT has not published it in any source I reached. Pay only against an invoice from the IMT portal.

Warning

Every genuine IMT offer appears on JAMB CAPS. Anyone selling an “IMT Agricultural Engineering slot” or a special list is not part of the process. Pay fees only through invoices generated on portal.imt.edu.ng.

Your chances of getting Agricultural Engineering at IMT

JAMB’s 100 opens the door to screening. In Agricultural Engineering the pool is smaller than in most engineering courses, so a complete O’level record and an early application count for a lot.

Your UTME score is fixed once results are out, so the part you still control is the O’level on CAPS. Make sure English, Mathematics and Physics show as credits, and avoid adding a third sitting.

Agricultural Engineering was not on IMT’s part-time course page as recorded in our fact base, so plan on the full-time ND. The faculty page confirms each engineering department runs both ND and HND.

Studying Agricultural Engineering Technology at IMT Enugu

IMT’s Faculty of Engineering page lists six departments: Agric Engineering, Civil Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering and Electrical/Electronics Engineering. The page dates the school to 1973, names Engr. Dr. Timothy Adibe as Dean, and says each department runs both an ND and an HND, with each taking four semesters. On that page the department appears as Agric Engineering in the department list and as Agricultural and Bioenvironmental Engineering in the About text.

What you study

IMT has not put its course outline for this programme online, so the list below describes what ND Agricultural Engineering generally covers in Nigerian polytechnics. Ask the department for its own outline at registration.

  • Farm power and machinery: tractors, engines and the operation and maintenance of farm equipment.
  • Soil and water: soil and water conservation, irrigation and drainage, and basic surveying.
  • Crop processing and storage: drying, milling and storage structures for farm produce.
  • Engineering basics: engineering drawing, workshop practice, applied mechanics and engineering mathematics.
  • Practical work: SIWES placement with a farm, agro-processing plant or agricultural development agency.

Accreditation

At IMT’s Global Homecoming on 13 June 2026, the Rector, Prof. Sunday Gozie Ogbodo, said all courses offered by IMT are now fully accredited, after more than 70% of programmes had expired accreditation when he took office in 2024. An NBTE accreditation team visited in November 2025. NBTE has not published a programme-by-programme result for Agricultural Engineering Technology that I could find, so its individual status is not confirmed. Ask the department to show it during clearance if this matters to you.

Careers

  • Farm machinery operator, mechanic or workshop supervisor
  • Irrigation and drainage technician
  • Technical staff in agro-processing plants such as rice and cassava mills
  • Field roles with state agricultural development agencies and agro-allied companies
  • Fabricating or servicing small processing machines as a business

Engineering technologists and technicians in Nigeria register with the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN). Most people reach the technologist grade after the HND, so plan on the full ND, industrial attachment and HND route if a professional engineering career is your aim.

If you are writing the UTME again, read when JAMB 2027 registration starts, work through the JAMB Chemistry syllabus and see what to do with your JAMB score once results are out.

Mistakes that cost Agricultural Engineering applicants an IMT place

  • Treating 100 as admission: it only makes you eligible to apply.
  • Planning with the old 120: that comes from a 2023 notice.
  • No Physics credit at O’level: Physics is fixed for this course.
  • Picking the wrong course name: check which Agricultural Engineering entry JAMB shows under IMT Enugu.
  • Missing O’level on CAPS: screening checks what CAPS shows.
  • Buying a “slot”: offers come only through CAPS and the IMT portal.

IMT Agricultural Engineering Technology cut off mark: frequently asked questions

What is the IMT cut off mark for Agricultural Engineering? It is 100, JAMB’s 2026 minimum for polytechnics. IMT has not published a separate figure, and I would aim for 120 or more.

Can I use Agricultural Science in JAMB for Agric Engineering in IMT? Yes. JAMB’s brochure remark says IMT accepts Agricultural Science as a UTME subject for this course. Keep Mathematics and Physics in your combination.

Is Agricultural Engineering the same as Agricultural and Bio-Environmental Engineering at IMT? JAMB’s IMT list shows both names, with the same requirements, and IMT’s faculty page uses both for one department. I treat them as one programme.

Is 110 enough for Agricultural Engineering in IMT? 110 meets the 100 minimum, so you can apply. It is below my 120 target, but this course is less crowded, so a complete O’level record gives you a fair chance.

Sources and updates

The 100 minimum for polytechnics in 2026, the 31 December 2026 admission deadline for polytechnics and the four-week acceptance window come from the News Agency of Nigeria report of JAMB’s 2026 policy meeting (11 May 2026). The 2025 minimum of 100 is from Nairametrics and Channels TV (8 July 2025). The UTME subjects, the O’level list and the IMT Agricultural Science remark come from Myschool’s reprint of the JAMB brochure entry for Agricultural Engineering/Technology (polytechnic brochure page), checked on 29 October 2026, together with the Agricultural and Bio-Environmental Engineering/Technology entry, which has the same requirements and no IMT remark. The department list, the 1973 founding date and the four-semester ND and HND structure are from IMT’s Faculty of Engineering page. The admission call title, the portal and the result checker are linked from imt.edu.ng. The Rector’s accreditation remarks are from BusinessDay (13 June 2026), reposted on imt.edu.ng.
