If you are checking the Rhema University Banking and Finance cut-off mark 2027/2028, the official figure is 150 in the UTME. That is JAMB’s national minimum for universities, fixed at the 2026 policy meeting. Rhema University, Aba has not published its own cut-off for B.Sc. Banking and Finance, and its name is missing from the list of institution-declared cut-offs from that meeting. Score 150 or more, put Rhema as your choice, hold the right five O’level credits, and you can apply.
2027/2028 update: Rhema cut-off marks usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the figures on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They come from the latest official notice (2026/2027). If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.
Banking and Finance is a natural pick if you were good at Economics and Accounting in secondary school and want a career in banks, investment firms or corporate finance. Rhema’s O’level list for this course is stricter than most people expect, so read that section carefully. Below you will find the official position, my safe target score, the exact subjects, Direct Entry routes, the screening position, a worked example, the CAPS steps and how this course compares with Accounting and Economics at Rhema.

Rhema Banking and Finance cut-off history
| Session | Figure | What it is | Status |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2026/2027 | 150 | JAMB national minimum for universities | Official, JAMB 2026 policy meeting |

A “Rhema cut-off mark for all courses” list from 2018/2019 still circulates on blogs. It does not cite any Rhema document, so treat it as unofficial and out of date.
Safe target score for Banking and Finance at Rhema (my advice)
Rhema is a private university, and private universities in the South-East usually get fewer applicants per place than federal schools like UNN or MOUAU. Banking and Finance is also less crowded than Medicine or Nursing. Still, 150 is a floor and gives you no guarantee. The bands below are my judgement as an admissions adviser. They are not a Rhema rule.
| Your UTME score | My read for Rhema Banking and Finance |
|---|---|
| Below 150 | Not eligible for any Rhema degree course through UTME |
| 150 to 159 | Eligible; a complete O’level and an early application matter most |
| 160 to 179 | Reasonable chance |
| 180 to 199 | Good chance |
| 200 and above | Strong; you may also compete for scholarships or prizes where Rhema offers them |
For the 2027 UTME I would aim for 180 or more. If you are also applying to a federal or state university as a second option, push for 200 so that school stays open to you too.
UTME subject combination and O’level for Rhema Banking and Finance
| Requirement | Banking and Finance at Rhema |
|---|---|
| UTME subjects | Use of English, Mathematics, Economics, plus one of Government or Geography |
| Rhema remark on JAMB brochure | None (Rhema has no special UTME, O’level or Direct Entry remark for this course) |
| O’level | Five credits: English Language, Mathematics, Economics, Accounting, Government |
| Exams accepted | WASSCE or NECO SSCE (named on Rhema’s page) |
| Sittings | Not stated for this course |
| Entry modes | UTME into 100 level; Direct Entry into 200 level |
Myschool’s reprint of the JAMB brochure lists Mathematics, Economics and one of Government or Geography for Banking and Finance, with Use of English compulsory for every candidate. Some blogs say “any social science subject” for the fourth subject. For Banking and Finance, the brochure’s general rule names only Government or Geography, so stick to one of those two.
My advice is to take Government as your fourth UTME subject. Rhema already wants a Government credit at O’level, so you will have studied it, and it satisfies the brochure rule.
The O’level trap: Accounting and Government
Rhema’s admissions page names all five credits for this course: English Language, Mathematics, Economics, Accounting and Government. The JAMB brochure’s general rule is looser (English, Mathematics and other subjects), but Rhema’s own list is the one its admissions officers will check.
- Accounting: in WAEC and NECO this subject is called Financial Accounting. Many candidates from the science class never sat it.
- Government: commercial students sometimes take Commerce or Civic Education instead. Rhema asks for Government.
- What to do if you lack one: sit the missing subject in the next NECO or WAEC GCE, or call Rhema to ask whether a substitute is accepted before you pay for anything. Rhema’s page does not state a sitting limit for this course, so ask about combining results too.
Direct Entry into Banking and Finance
Rhema admits Direct Entry candidates into 200 level. You need the five O’level credits plus one of these:
- A-level GCE passes in at least two relevant subjects; Rhema names Economics and Accounting
- IJMB
- NCE in relevant subjects
- ND at upper credit in a relevant field
- HND at lower credit in a relevant field
- A first degree in a related field
The JAMB brochure’s general Direct Entry rule is two A-level passes from Accounting, Economics, Management, Mathematics, Geography and Statistics. Rhema adds no remark of its own, so if you are doing IJMB or JUPEB, Economics and Accounting is the safest pair. ND holders in Banking and Finance, Accounting or Business Administration should confirm with Rhema that their field counts as relevant.
Rhema post-UTME and screening for Banking and Finance
Rhema has not published a screening procedure for Banking and Finance in any source I reached. The one screening notice I could confirm, reprinted by Myschool on 10 September 2025, was for MBBS and Nursing candidates. It held on 16 September 2025 at the Academic Block in Aba, with extra centres in Abuja (Gwarimpa) and Lagos (Ojodu Berger), and candidates were told to bring a passport photograph and writing materials.
Some blogs say every Rhema applicant sits a computer-based test. They cite no notice from the university, and one of them quotes two different form prices. For Banking and Finance, apply on the portal early and ask the admissions office directly whether you will be tested.
Worked example (illustrative only)
Rhema publishes no aggregate formula. The example compares two candidates against the 150 floor and my 180 target. In case a test is set, it also uses the 50:50 method many Nigerian universities use (UTME score divided by 8, plus half the screening percentage). That method is my illustration. It is not Rhema’s published method.
- Chidera: UTME 192. That is 42 above the floor and 12 above my target. She has all five Rhema credits in one sitting, including Financial Accounting.
- If there is a test: Chidera scores 60%. 192 ÷ 8 = 24, plus 30, gives an illustrative aggregate of 54.
- Obinna: UTME 168 (21) and 74% at screening (37), for 58. He would finish ahead despite a UTME score 24 marks lower.
- The catch: neither score helps if the Accounting or Government credit is missing. Check your O’level against Rhema’s list before anything else.
Banking and Finance, Accounting or Economics at Rhema?
These three courses attract the same candidates. Rhema’s admissions page sets slightly different O’level lists for each, so your result slip may decide for you.
| Point | Banking and Finance | Accounting | Economics |
|---|---|---|---|
| Rhema O’level credits | English, Maths, Economics, Accounting, Government | English, Maths, Economics, Business Studies, Financial Accounting, Government | English, Maths, Economics, plus relevant arts or social science subjects |
| UTME (JAMB brochure) | Maths, Economics, Government or Geography | Check the Accounting entry on the brochure | Maths, Economics, plus Government, History, Geography, Literature, French or CRS/IRS |
| Rhema Direct Entry extra | A-level Economics and Accounting named | Also ATS and ICAN Foundation | ND in Banking and Finance and similar fields accepted |
| Main focus | Money, banks, markets, investment | Recording and auditing financial information | How economies and markets behave |
| Main professional body | Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria (CIBN) | ICAN or ANAN | Nigerian Economic Society |
Economics is the most flexible on O’level at Rhema. Accounting asks for the longest list. Banking and Finance sits in between, but it is the only one of the three where Rhema names Government and Accounting as fixed credits. See our Rhema Accounting guide and Rhema Economics guide for the full details.
How to apply for Banking and Finance at Rhema, step by step
- Get your JAMB profile code: send NIN, a space and your 11-digit NIN to 55019 or 66019 from the phone line linked to your NIN. JAMB replies with the profile code you use to buy the UTME form.
- Register the UTME: pick Banking and Finance with Use of English, Mathematics, Economics and Government, and choose Rhema University. If you already chose another school, do a JAMB change of institution; if you registered a different course, see our JAMB change of course guide.
- Upload your O’level to CAPS: go to a JAMB office or accredited CBT centre with your WAEC or NECO result. If you used two sittings, upload both. Without this upload, Rhema cannot send you an offer.
- Apply on Rhema’s portal: on rhemauniversity.edu.ng, open Admissions, click “Apply Now”, sign in, fill the form for Banking and Finance and print the acknowledgement slip.
- Confirm any screening: call 08107159322 or 08076846648 and ask whether Banking and Finance candidates sit a test or interview that year, and where.
- Accept on CAPS: log in at efacility.jamb.gov.ng, choose Check Admission Status, then Access my CAPS, and accept the offer. JAMB gave candidates four weeks to accept in 2026. Our JAMB CAPS guide explains every status you might see.
- Pay acceptance and clear: Rhema does not publish its acceptance fee in any source I reached. Get the amount from the university itself, pay only into its official account, then go for clearance with your original documents.
Warning
Blogs quote different prices for Rhema’s admission form, and some carry “admission” adverts with email addresses that are not Rhema’s. Pay only what Rhema’s own portal or admissions office tells you, ignore agents who promise a place, and remember that a genuine offer always shows on JAMB CAPS.
Studying Banking and Finance at Rhema University
Rhema University is a private Christian university in Aba, established in 2010 according to its own news page. It awards a B.Sc. in Banking and Finance. The admissions page does not give the duration or say which college runs the course; in Nigeria the degree normally takes four years through UTME and three through Direct Entry.
Accreditation
Rhema’s admissions page says all its courses are accredited by the National Universities Commission and relevant professional bodies. I could not find a published NUC accreditation result for B.Sc. Banking and Finance at Rhema, so treat the current status as not confirmed and ask the department before you pay. Professional exemptions from CIBN are also not published, so ask about those too.
What you study
- 100 level: principles of economics, introduction to finance and accounting, business mathematics, statistics and general studies.
- Core banking: money and banking, bank lending and credit administration, central banking and monetary policy, banking law and practice.
- Core finance: corporate finance, financial markets and institutions, investment analysis, portfolio management and international finance.
- Supporting courses: cost and management accounting, business law, research methods and computer applications.
- Final year: electives such as insurance or public finance, and a research project.
Careers after Banking and Finance
Graduates go into commercial and microfinance banks, fintech companies, insurance, stockbroking and asset management, the treasury and credit units of large companies, and the finance departments of government agencies. Many also take the CIBN professional exams to become chartered bankers, or go on to an MBA or M.Sc. Finance.

Mistakes Banking and Finance applicants make
- Treating 150 as a guaranteed place: it is only the minimum to apply.
- No Financial Accounting or Government credit: both are on Rhema’s list for this course.
- Using “any social science” as the fourth UTME subject: the brochure names Government or Geography.
- Forgetting the CAPS upload: Rhema cannot send an offer if your O’level is not on JAMB’s system.
- Stopping at CAPS acceptance: you still need to pay acceptance and complete clearance at Rhema.

The UTME subjects and general Direct Entry rule are from Myschool’s reprint of the JAMB brochure entry for Banking and Finance (university), checked 29 October 2026; Rhema has no remark on it.
