The MOUAU cut off mark for Banking and Finance is 150 in the UTME, and Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike (MOUAU) has to be your first choice. That single minimum covered every course in MOUAU’s 2026/2027 screening notice. The university did not publish a separate departmental figure for Banking and Finance.
2027/2028 update: MOUAU cut-off marks usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the figures on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They come from the latest official notice (2026/2027). If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.
Banking and Finance also has a stricter UTME rule than most candidates expect: JAMB’s general entry names the third subject. This page sets out the official figures, a safe target score (my advice), the subject combination and O’level list from the brochure, how MOUAU screens, a worked example, the CAPS steps and the course’s NUC history.

MOUAU Banking and Finance cut-off history
| Session | Figure | What it is | Status |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2026/2027 | 150 | Minimum UTME score for every MOUAU course, MOUAU first choice | MOUAU notice (Myschool reprint, 20 June 2026) |
| 2026 (national) | 150 | JAMB minimum for all universities | Official, JAMB policy meeting |
| 2025/2026 | Not confirmed | Blogs repeat 150; the older Myschool page now redirects to the 2026 article | Unverified |
| Departmental figure for Banking and Finance | None | Blog tables of “departmental cut-off marks” cite no MOUAU document | Unofficial |
Banking and Finance came back to MOUAU’s intake only after the NUC reinstatement reported in March 2025, so there is no reliable history of its own. Blog figures for a MOUAU “Banking and Finance departmental cut-off” are not backed by any MOUAU document.
Safe target score for Banking and Finance at MOUAU (my advice)
MOUAU does not release the score of the last candidate it admitted into each course. The bands below are my own reading as an admissions adviser, not MOUAU figures, and they assume your O’level subjects are complete.
| Your UTME score | My read for MOUAU Banking and Finance |
|---|---|
| Below 150 | Not eligible for any MOUAU course |
| 150 to 169 | Eligible for screening, but an offer is uncertain |
| 170 to 199 | Reasonable chance with good O’level grades from one sitting |
| 200 and above | Strong. This is the range I would aim for. |
For the 2027 UTME I would aim for at least 190, ideally 200, with credits in English, Mathematics and Economics plus two of Financial Accounting, Commerce, Government or Geography, ideally from one sitting.
Merit, catchment and your realistic odds
MOUAU is a federal university, so its offers follow the federal mix of merit, catchment and educationally less developed states. It has not published its own split or a catchment list for 2026/2027. Plan as if you must win on merit: a good UTME score and clean O’level grades from one sitting are the two things you control. Banking and Finance tends to attract candidates who missed Accounting, so expect the competition to be close to Accounting’s.
UTME subject combination and O’level for MOUAU Banking and Finance
| Requirement | Banking and Finance at MOUAU |
|---|---|
| UTME (JAMB general entry) | Use of English, Mathematics, Economics and one of Government or Geography |
| Wider third-subject choice | UNN, ESUT and OOU accept any Social Science subject; MOUAU has no such remark, so keep to Government or Geography |
| MOUAU UTME remark | None on Myschool’s reprint of the entry (Faculty of Administration) |
| O’level (JAMB general entry) | Five credits including English Language and Mathematics plus other relevant subjects (NBC holders may use Accounting, Principles of Accounts, Commerce, Office Practice or Economics) |
| Economics credit | Not named in the general line, but most university remarks on the page demand it; get it |
| Exams accepted | WAEC, NECO, NABTEB |
| Sittings | Not more than two is the usual rule; MOUAU weights the number of sittings in screening |
Many guides list the third UTME subject for Banking and Finance as “any Arts or Social Science subject”. JAMB’s general entry is narrower: Mathematics, Economics and one of Government or Geography. Some universities, including UNN, ESUT and OOU, widen this to any Social Science subject in their remarks, but MOUAU has no remark on Myschool’s reprint, so the general line is what applies. Register Mathematics, Economics and Government, or Geography if that is your stronger subject.
At O’level the general line only fixes English and Mathematics, with a separate note listing the commercial subjects NBC holders can use. Nearly every university remark on the page adds Economics, so treat it as compulsory. Financial Accounting and Commerce are useful fourth and fifth subjects because they carry into your first-year courses. Confirm the combination on your own JAMB e-brochure before you register.
Direct Entry
JAMB’s general Direct Entry line asks for two A-level passes chosen from Accounting, Economics, Management, Mathematics, Geography and Statistics. Universities add ND, HND or banking qualifications in their remarks; Abia State University, for example, accepts an ND in Banking and Finance with at least a B overall average. No MOUAU-specific remark appears on the reprint, and MOUAU’s 2026/2027 notice gave no Direct Entry rules, so ask COLMAS before you buy a Direct Entry form.
Is Banking and Finance at MOUAU accredited? The delisting and the 2025 reinstatement
MOUAU runs Banking and Finance in its College of Management Sciences (COLMAS), and the course appears on the university’s official department list (last modified 19 June 2026). The college has had a rough decade. In August 2017 The Sun reported that the Federal Government, acting on a Federal Executive Council decision passed down through the Ministry of Education, had told seven federal universities of agriculture and technology to stop running management courses and stick to their core mandate. MOUAU was one of the seven, and JAMB removed the affected courses from its brochure. MOUAU’s spokespeople disputed the delisting at the time.
On 20 March 2025 Myschool reported that the National Universities Commission (NUC) had approved the reinstatement of five previously delisted COLMAS programmes: B.Sc Accounting, B.Sc Marketing, B.Sc Banking and Finance, B.Sc Business Administration and B.Sc Economics. The letter, addressed to the then Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Maduebibisi Ofo Iwe, was signed by Abubakar M. Girei, Acting Director of Academic Planning at the NUC, and followed an expert team’s assessment of the university’s staff and facilities. The report does not say when or why the programmes were delisted, so I treat the 2017 directive as background and not as the confirmed cause.
For you, this means B.Sc Banking and Finance is back with NUC approval, and MOUAU’s 2026/2027 screening notice covered every course. No accreditation grade was published with the news, and I found nothing on exemptions from the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria (CIBN), so I am not claiming either. Ask the department for the current position.
How MOUAU screens Banking and Finance candidates
MOUAU’s 2026/2027 screening notice was signed by the Registrar, Dr (Mrs) Nkeiruka Charity Mbanasor, and reprinted by Myschool on 20 June 2026. I could not open the original on mouau.edu.ng, so read these details as a reprint of the notice.
| Detail | MOUAU 2026/2027 screening |
|---|---|
| Who could apply | Candidates with 150 or more in the 2026 UTME and MOUAU as first choice; others could first change to MOUAU on the JAMB portal |
| Registration opened | 6 June 2026, online through mouau.edu.ng |
| Portal | portal.mouau.edu.ng (payment problems: portal@mouau.edu.ng) |
| Fee | ₦2,000 through Remita, by card or cash at any bank |
| O’level | WAEC, NECO or NABTEB results uploaded so they reach JAMB CAPS |
| Awaiting results | Candidates still waiting for 2026 results were told not to register until the results came out |
| Ranking | UTME score, with O’level grades and number of sittings both weighted |
| Closing date and test date | Not stated in the reprint |
The notice does not mention a written Post-UTME test for 2026/2027, so I am not going to tell you one was held. After you register, keep checking the portal, because MOUAU said screening results and admission status would appear there.
Worked example: two Banking and Finance candidates compared
MOUAU has not published an aggregate formula. To show how grades and sittings can move a ranking, here is an illustrative method many Nigerian universities use: UTME score divided by 8 (up to 50 points) plus O’level points for five relevant subjects, with A1 = 10, B2 = 9, B3 = 8, C4 = 7, C5 = 6 and C6 = 5 (up to 50 points). This is my illustration only.
- Obinna scored 196 with B2 in English, B3 in Mathematics, B2 in Economics, B3 in Government, C4 in Geography from one sitting. UTME points: 196 ÷ 8 = 24.50. O’level points: 9 + 8 + 9 + 8 + 7 = 41. Illustrative total: 65.50.
- Ngozi scored 210 with C6 in English, C5 in Mathematics, C4 in Economics, C6 in Government, C5 in Commerce from two sittings. UTME points: 210 ÷ 8 = 26.25. O’level points: 5 + 6 + 7 + 5 + 6 = 29. Illustrative total: 55.25.
- The gap: 65.50 minus 55.25 = 10.25 points. Ngozi has the higher UTME score, but Obinna finishes ahead because his grades are stronger and come from one sitting. A good UTME score cannot fully cover weak O’level grades at MOUAU.
How to apply for Banking and Finance at MOUAU, step by step
- Get your JAMB profile code: send NIN, a space and your 11-digit NIN to 55019 or 66019 from the phone line linked to your NIN.
- Register the UTME with the right subjects: pick Banking and Finance at MOUAU with Use of English, Mathematics, Economics and Government (or Geography), and make MOUAU your first choice. If you chose another school, do a JAMB change of institution before screening opens; if you chose the wrong course, read our JAMB change of course guide.
- Upload your O’level to CAPS: do it at an accredited JAMB CBT centre as soon as your result is out. MOUAU weights sittings, so upload your best single sitting if one sitting covers all five subjects.
- Register on the MOUAU portal: when screening opens, go to portal.mouau.edu.ng, enter your details and generate the Remita invoice.
- Pay ₦2,000: by card or cash at any bank through Remita. Keep the RRR number and the receipt.
- Watch the portal: MOUAU posts screening outcomes and admission status there. No test date was published for 2026/2027.
- Accept on CAPS: log in at efacility.jamb.gov.ng, choose Check Admission Status, then Access my CAPS, and accept. JAMB gives four weeks to accept, and our JAMB CAPS guide explains each status.
- Pay acceptance and complete clearance: MOUAU’s acceptance and school fees were not in any source I reached. Take the amount from the invoice on your portal and pay only through it.
Warning
Every genuine MOUAU offer shows up on JAMB CAPS, and JAMB said in May 2026 that admissions outside CAPS are illegal. Anyone selling a MOUAU “slot”, a “special list” or a guaranteed change into this course is selling something that does not exist. Pay MOUAU only through the invoice your portal generates.
For the 2026/2027 cycle, JAMB set 31 October 2026 as the date public universities should finish admissions. If you applied this year, look at CAPS rather than waiting for a printed list.
Studying Banking and Finance at MOUAU
MOUAU’s official department list includes a Department of Banking and Finance in the College of Management Sciences, and the NUC reinstatement names the degree as B.Sc Banking and Finance. MOUAU is a federal university of agriculture at Umudike, about 10 km from Umuahia in Abia State, set up by federal decree in November 1992.
What you study
- Banking: theory and practice of banking, bank lending and credit administration, bank management.
- Finance: corporate finance, investment analysis, portfolio management and financial markets.
- Money and policy: monetary economics, central banking and the regulation of financial institutions.
- Risk and insurance: risk management, insurance principles and microfinance (useful for rural and agricultural credit).
- Foundations: accounting, economics, business statistics, law and computer applications.
- Industrial training and project: a SIWES placement and a final-year project, as in other Nigerian B.Sc programmes.
Degree, duration and accreditation
The degree is B.Sc Banking and Finance, as named in the NUC reinstatement reported in March 2025. The course normally takes four years from 100 level in Nigeria, but I found no MOUAU source confirming the duration. No accreditation grade and no CIBN exemption status appeared in the sources I checked.
Careers
- Banking roles in operations, credit, relationship management and treasury.
- Microfinance banks and agricultural credit schemes.
- Investment, stockbroking and asset management firms.
- Insurance and pension fund administration.
- Financial analysis and corporate finance roles.
- Professional certification with CIBN, or postgraduate study in finance.

Mistakes that cost Banking and Finance applicants a MOUAU place
- Writing Commerce, CRS or Literature as the third UTME subject: JAMB’s general entry wants Government or Geography.
- No O’level Economics credit: most universities require it, and MOUAU has not waived it.
- Treating 150 as a safe score: it only opens screening.
- Combining two weak sittings: MOUAU weights the number of sittings.
- MOUAU not first choice: the notice requires it.
- Waiting for a printed list: offers appear on CAPS first.
MOUAU cut off mark for Banking and Finance: frequently asked questions
Is Government compulsory for Banking and Finance in JAMB? JAMB’s general entry asks for Mathematics, Economics and one of Government or Geography, so you need one of the two. Some universities accept any Social Science subject, but MOUAU has no such remark.
Is 180 good for Banking and Finance in MOUAU? 180 clears the 150 minimum and sits in the band where I see a reasonable chance. Strong O’level grades from one sitting will matter a lot at that score.
Can I use NECO for Banking and Finance at MOUAU? Yes. MOUAU’s 2026/2027 notice accepted WAEC, NECO and NABTEB results uploaded to CAPS.
Is Banking and Finance accredited at MOUAU? The NUC approved its reinstatement in 2025, as Myschool reported on 20 March 2025. No accreditation grade was published, so confirm the current status with the department.
Sources and updates
The 150 minimum, the first-choice rule, the 6 June 2026 opening, the ₦2,000 Remita fee, the portal address, the awaiting-result rule and the weighting of O’level grades and sittings come from MOUAU’s 2026/2027 screening notice signed by the Registrar, Dr (Mrs) Nkeiruka Charity Mbanasor, as reprinted by Myschool on 20 June 2026; I could not open the original on mouau.edu.ng. The national minimum of 150, the 31 October 2026 admission deadline, the four-week acceptance window and the warning that admissions outside CAPS are illegal come from the News Agency of Nigeria’s report of the JAMB 2026 policy meeting (11 May 2026). The college and department names come from MOUAU’s official Academic Department by Faculty page (last modified 19 June 2026). The UTME, O’level and Direct Entry rules come from Myschool’s reprint of the JAMB brochure entry for Banking and Finance (Faculty of Administration), which carries no MOUAU remark. The reinstatement comes from Myschool’s 20 March 2025 report of the NUC letter, and the 2017 background from The Sun (20 August 2017). The safe target table and the worked example are my own advice and illustration, and the course content and career lists describe how the subject is usually taught in Nigeria, not a MOUAU handbook. MOUAU’s fees, the exact degree title and the duration were not published in any source I reached. Checked on 29 October 2026; this page will be updated if MOUAU publishes a departmental cut-off or new requirements.
