MOUAU Cut-Off Mark for Accounting 2027/2028: Requirements, Subject Combination and Screening

The MOUAU cut off mark for Accounting is 150 in the UTME with MOUAU as first choice, but Accounting needs much more to be safe. See the JAMB subjects, O’level, screening, a safe target and CAPS steps for 2027/2028.

The MOUAU cut off mark for Accounting is 150 in the UTME, and Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike (MOUAU) has to be your first choice. That single minimum covered every course in MOUAU’s 2026/2027 screening notice. The university did not publish a separate departmental figure for Accounting.

2027/2028 update: MOUAU cut-off marks usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the figures on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They come from the latest official notice (2026/2027). If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.

Accounting is usually the most contested course in a Nigerian management sciences college, so treat 150 as the floor. This page gives the official figures, a safe target score (my advice), the JAMB subject combination and O’level list from the brochure, how MOUAU screens, a worked example, the CAPS steps and what the 2025 NUC reinstatement means for the course.

Accounting only came back to MOUAU’s regular intake after the NUC reinstatement reported in March 2025, so there is almost no public history for the course. Blog tables quoting an “Accounting departmental cut-off” of 200 or more for MOUAU cite no MOUAU document. They may reflect how competitive the course is, but they are guesses.

Safe target score for Accounting at MOUAU (my advice)

MOUAU does not release the score of the last candidate it admitted into each course. The bands below are my own reading as an admissions adviser, not MOUAU figures, and they assume your O’level subjects are complete.

Your UTME scoreMy read for MOUAU Accounting
Below 150Not eligible for any MOUAU course
150 to 179Eligible for screening, but an offer in Accounting is unlikely
180 to 209Reasonable chance with strong O’level grades from one sitting
210 and aboveStrong. This is where I would aim.

For the 2027 UTME I would aim for at least 200, ideally 210 or more, with good credits in English, Mathematics and Economics plus Financial Accounting and Commerce or Government, all from one sitting. If your score lands between 150 and 180, have a plan B inside COLMAS or the College of Education.

Merit, catchment and your realistic odds

MOUAU is a federal university, so its offers follow the federal mix of merit, catchment and educationally less developed states. It has not published its own split or a catchment list for 2026/2027. Plan as if you must win on merit: a good UTME score and clean O’level grades from one sitting are the two things you control. Accounting draws the largest crowd in most COLMAS-type colleges, and MOUAU publishes no quota per department. That is why I set the bands higher here than for Marketing or Economics.

UTME subject combination and O’level for MOUAU Accounting

RequirementAccounting at MOUAU
UTME (JAMB general entry)Use of English, Economics, Mathematics and any other Arts or Social Science subject
MOUAU UTME remarkNone on Myschool’s reprint of the entry (Faculty of Administration)
O’level (JAMB general entry)Five credits in English Language, Mathematics, Economics and any two other subjects
Financial Accounting at O’levelNot named in the general entry; a strong choice for one of the free slots
Exams acceptedWAEC, NECO, NABTEB
SittingsNot more than two is the usual rule; MOUAU weights the number of sittings in screening
Special requirementsNone published beyond screening

The fixed UTME subjects are Economics and Mathematics. The third can be any Arts or Social Science subject, and Government is the safest pick because nobody disputes that it is a social science. Many candidates want to sit Principles of Accounts in the UTME; if you do, check that MOUAU’s line on your JAMB e-brochure accepts it as the third subject before you register, because the reprint I read does not name it.

At O’level you need credits in English, Mathematics and Economics plus two more. Financial Accounting is the obvious fourth subject, and Commerce or Government makes a good fifth. A pass in Mathematics will not do: every entry on the page needs a credit. The reprint shows a sittings remark only for ELUON, so MOUAU’s own preference for fewer sittings comes from its screening notice, not the brochure.

Direct Entry

Myschool’s reprint of the Accounting entry shows Direct Entry remarks for many universities but no MOUAU remark. Elsewhere, common routes are two A-level passes including Economics, ND or HND in Accounting at a stated grade, and professional passes such as the ICAN intermediate examination; Abia State University, for example, accepts a complete pass in the ICAN intermediate examination plus UTME requirements. MOUAU’s 2026/2027 notice gave no Direct Entry rules, so ask COLMAS which of these it accepts before you buy a form.

Is Accounting at MOUAU accredited? The delisting and the 2025 reinstatement

MOUAU runs Accounting in its College of Management Sciences (COLMAS), and the course appears on the university’s official department list (last modified 19 June 2026). The college has had a rough decade. In August 2017 The Sun reported that the Federal Government, acting on a Federal Executive Council decision passed down through the Ministry of Education, had told seven federal universities of agriculture and technology to stop running management courses and stick to their core mandate. MOUAU was one of the seven, and JAMB removed the affected courses from its brochure. MOUAU’s spokespeople disputed the delisting at the time.

On 20 March 2025 Myschool reported that the National Universities Commission (NUC) had approved the reinstatement of five previously delisted COLMAS programmes: B.Sc Accounting, B.Sc Marketing, B.Sc Banking and Finance, B.Sc Business Administration and B.Sc Economics. The letter, addressed to the then Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Maduebibisi Ofo Iwe, was signed by Abubakar M. Girei, Acting Director of Academic Planning at the NUC, and followed an expert team’s assessment of the university’s staff and facilities. The report does not say when or why the programmes were delisted, so I treat the 2017 directive as background and not as the confirmed cause.

For you, this means B.Sc Accounting is back with NUC approval, and MOUAU’s 2026/2027 screening notice covered every course. The report gave no accreditation grade, and I found no statement on whether the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (ICAN) or the Association of National Accountants of Nigeria (ANAN) grants MOUAU graduates exemptions. Ask the department before you rely on either.

How MOUAU screens Accounting candidates

MOUAU’s 2026/2027 screening notice was signed by the Registrar, Dr (Mrs) Nkeiruka Charity Mbanasor, and reprinted by Myschool on 20 June 2026. I could not open the original on mouau.edu.ng, so read these details as a reprint of the notice.

The notice does not mention a written Post-UTME test for 2026/2027, so I am not going to tell you one was held. After you register, keep checking the portal, because MOUAU said screening results and admission status would appear there.

Worked example: two Accounting candidates compared

MOUAU has not published an aggregate formula. To show how grades and sittings can move a ranking, here is an illustrative method many Nigerian universities use: UTME score divided by 8 (up to 50 points) plus O’level points for five relevant subjects, with A1 = 10, B2 = 9, B3 = 8, C4 = 7, C5 = 6 and C6 = 5 (up to 50 points). This is my illustration only.

  1. Chidinma scored 214 with B3 in English, A1 in Mathematics, B2 in Economics, B2 in Financial Accounting, B3 in Commerce from one sitting. UTME points: 214 ÷ 8 = 26.75. O’level points: 8 + 10 + 9 + 9 + 8 = 44. Illustrative total: 70.75.
  2. Uchenna scored 202 with C5 in English, C4 in Mathematics, C6 in Economics, C5 in Commerce, C4 in Government from two sittings. UTME points: 202 ÷ 8 = 25.25. O’level points: 6 + 7 + 5 + 6 + 7 = 31. Illustrative total: 56.25.
  3. The gap: 70.75 minus 56.25 = 14.50 points. Uchenna’s 202 sits inside my “reasonable chance” band, yet weak grades spread over two sittings leave him well behind Chidinma. In a crowded course like Accounting, a gap that size can decide who gets the offer and who is moved to another course.

How to apply for Accounting at MOUAU, step by step

  1. Get your JAMB profile code: send NIN, a space and your 11-digit NIN to 55019 or 66019 from the phone line linked to your NIN.
  2. Register the UTME with the right subjects: pick Accounting at MOUAU with Use of English, Mathematics, Economics and Government, and make MOUAU your first choice. If you chose another school, do a JAMB change of institution before screening opens; if you chose the wrong course, read our JAMB change of course guide.
  3. Upload your O’level to CAPS: do it at an accredited JAMB CBT centre as soon as your result is out. MOUAU weights sittings, so upload your best single sitting if one sitting covers all five subjects.
  4. Register on the MOUAU portal: when screening opens, go to portal.mouau.edu.ng, enter your details and generate the Remita invoice.
  5. Pay ₦2,000: by card or cash at any bank through Remita. Keep the RRR number and the receipt.
  6. Watch the portal: MOUAU posts screening outcomes and admission status there. No test date was published for 2026/2027.
  7. Accept on CAPS: log in at efacility.jamb.gov.ng, choose Check Admission Status, then Access my CAPS, and accept. JAMB gives four weeks to accept, and our JAMB CAPS guide explains each status.
  8. Pay acceptance and complete clearance: MOUAU’s acceptance and school fees were not in any source I reached. Take the amount from the invoice on your portal and pay only through it.

Warning

Every genuine MOUAU offer shows up on JAMB CAPS, and JAMB said in May 2026 that admissions outside CAPS are illegal. Anyone selling a MOUAU “slot”, a “special list” or a guaranteed change into this course is selling something that does not exist. Pay MOUAU only through the invoice your portal generates.

For the 2026/2027 cycle, JAMB set 31 October 2026 as the date public universities should finish admissions. If you applied this year, look at CAPS rather than waiting for a printed list.

Studying Accounting at MOUAU

MOUAU’s official department list includes a Department of Accounting in the College of Management Sciences, and the NUC reinstatement names the degree as B.Sc Accounting. MOUAU is a federal university of agriculture at Umudike, about 10 km from Umuahia in Abia State, set up by federal decree in November 1992.

What you study

  • Financial accounting and reporting: from double entry in 100 level to group accounts and IFRS in final year.
  • Cost and management accounting: costing methods, budgeting and decision making.
  • Auditing and assurance: audit procedure, internal control and forensic accounting.
  • Taxation and public sector accounting: Nigerian personal and company taxes and government accounts.
  • Finance and law: financial management, business law and company law.
  • Industrial training and project: a SIWES placement and a final-year project, as in other Nigerian B.Sc programmes; MOUAU’s handbook has the details.

Degree, duration and accreditation

The degree is B.Sc Accounting, as named in the NUC reinstatement reported in March 2025. Accounting degrees in Nigeria normally take four years from 100 level, but no MOUAU source I reached confirms this. No accreditation grade and no ICAN or ANAN exemption status were published in the sources I checked, so I am not claiming either.

Careers

  • Accountant or audit associate in accounting firms, banks and companies.
  • Tax officer or tax consultant, including roles with state internal revenue services.
  • Internal auditor or finance officer in public service and NGOs.
  • Chartered accountant after ICAN or ANAN professional exams.
  • Financial analyst, budget officer or treasury roles.
  • Accounting and bookkeeping services for small businesses.

Mistakes that cost Accounting applicants a MOUAU place

  • Only a pass in Mathematics: every entry needs a credit.
  • Assuming Principles of Accounts is accepted as the third UTME subject: check your e-brochure line first; Government is the safe pick.
  • Choosing Accounting with a borderline score and no plan B: Accounting is the most contested COLMAS course, so think about Banking and Finance or Economics as alternatives.
  • Mixing results from two weak sittings: MOUAU weights the number of sittings.
  • Believing blog “departmental cut-offs”: MOUAU has published none.
  • Missing the CAPS acceptance window: JAMB gives four weeks.

MOUAU cut off mark for Accounting: frequently asked questions

Is 200 enough for Accounting in MOUAU? 200 is well above the 150 minimum and inside the band where I see a reasonable chance, provided your O’level grades are strong and from one sitting. For real comfort I would aim for 210 or more.

Can I study Accounting at MOUAU without Commerce or Principles of Accounts? Yes. JAMB’s general entry fixes Economics and Mathematics in the UTME, and the O’level list needs English, Mathematics and Economics plus any two subjects. Financial Accounting at O’level still helps you in year one.

Can I change from Accounting to another course at MOUAU if my score is low? Yes, through a JAMB change of course before admissions close. Banking and Finance and Economics use almost the same UTME subjects, so they are the easiest switches.

Is Accounting in MOUAU accredited? The NUC approved the reinstatement of B.Sc Accounting in 2025, as Myschool reported on 20 March 2025. No accreditation grade was published with that news, so ask the department for the current status.

Sources and updates

The 150 minimum, the first-choice rule, the 6 June 2026 opening, the ₦2,000 Remita fee, the portal address, the awaiting-result rule and the weighting of O’level grades and sittings come from MOUAU’s 2026/2027 screening notice signed by the Registrar, Dr (Mrs) Nkeiruka Charity Mbanasor, as reprinted by Myschool on 20 June 2026; I could not open the original on mouau.edu.ng. The national minimum of 150, the 31 October 2026 admission deadline, the four-week acceptance window and the warning that admissions outside CAPS are illegal come from the News Agency of Nigeria’s report of the JAMB 2026 policy meeting (11 May 2026). The college and department names come from MOUAU’s official Academic Department by Faculty page (last modified 19 June 2026). The UTME, O’level and Direct Entry details come from Myschool’s reprint of the JAMB brochure entry for Accounting (Faculty of Administration), which carries no MOUAU remark. The reinstatement comes from Myschool’s 20 March 2025 report of the NUC letter, and the 2017 background from The Sun (20 August 2017). The safe target table and the worked example are my own advice and illustration, and the course content and career lists describe how the subject is usually taught in Nigeria, not a MOUAU handbook. MOUAU’s fees, the exact degree title and the duration were not published in any source I reached. Checked on 29 October 2026; this page will be updated if MOUAU publishes a departmental cut-off or new requirements.
