ESUT Cut-Off Mark for Building 2027/2028: Requirements and Aggregate Breakdown

ESUT Cut-Off Mark for Building 2027/2028: Requirements and Aggregate Breakdown
ESUT’s minimum UTME score for Building in 2027/2028 is 160, and it publishes no aggregate formula or merit score. See what that means, a worked breakdown, ESUT’s Chemistry substitute rule, screening and CAPS steps.

The ESUT cut off mark for Building for 2026/2027 is 160 in the 2026 UTME. Enugu State University of Science and Technology set 160 for the Faculty of Environmental Sciences in its official Post-UTME advert of 4 July 2026, and Building, unlike Architecture, was not named in a higher band.

2027/2028 update: ESUT has not released its 2027/2028 cut-off marks yet. ESUT usually publishes its course-by-course minimum scores in its post-UTME advert after JAMB’s policy meeting, which normally holds in mid-2027. Until the new notice is out, the 2026/2027 figures on this page are the latest official benchmark, so plan with them and aim above them. We update this page as soon as the 2027/2028 notice is published.

You need 160 to be screened; admission is decided by ranking, and ESUT does not publish the final merit score. Because many readers search for an “aggregate” for ESUT Building, I also explain what ESUT has and has not published about how it ranks, with a worked breakdown. You will also find the history, a safe target score (my advice), ESUT’s own subject rule for Building, the CAPS steps and the route to becoming a registered builder.

The minimum UTME score (160) is the gate. The merit score is the lowest score actually admitted into Building after ranking. ESUT does not release it, but Building is usually less crowded than Architecture, which ESUT set 20 marks higher.

Building cut-off history at ESUT

SessionMinimum UTMEWhere the figure comes from
2026/2027160Official ESUT Post-UTME advert (Faculty of Environmental Sciences)
2025/2026160Previous year, from DTW Tutorials’ summary of ESUT’s screening notice (Environmental Sciences group)

Building stayed on 160 while its neighbour Architecture moved from 160 to 180. ESUT can move any course between adverts, so check the 2027/2028 figure before you plan.

ESUT Building aggregate breakdown: what ESUT has published

ESUT has not published an aggregate formula. The 2026/2027 advert sets a minimum UTME score per course and an online screening with no test, and it says nothing about weights or O’level grade points. So the only arithmetic you can do with official figures is to check how far you are above your course’s minimum. Some blogs quote a Post-UTME percentage for ESUT; that cannot be right for 2026/2027, because there was no Post-UTME test to score.

Here is what that leaves you with for 2026/2027:

Part of the processOfficial position
UTME scoreMust be at least 160 for Building
Post-UTME test scoreNone. There was no test
O’level gradesRequired for eligibility and uploaded on CAPS; no published grade points
Weights (for example 50:50)Not published
Merit, catchment and other quotasNot published

Worked breakdown for a Building candidate

Take Somtochukwu, who scored 201 in the 2026 UTME with C4 in English, B2 in Mathematics, B3 in Physics, C5 in Chemistry and B2 in Technical Drawing.

  1. Eligibility check (official): 201 minus the 160 minimum = 41 marks above the line.
  2. UTME half (illustrative method): 201 ÷ 8 = 25.13 out of 50.
  3. O’level half (illustrative method): 7 + 9 + 8 + 6 + 9 = 39 out of 50.
  4. Illustrative total: 25.13 + 39 = 64.13 out of 100.

Now compare Kamsiyochukwu, who scored 176 with A1 in English, A1 in Mathematics, B2 in Physics, B2 in Chemistry and B3 in Economics. Her illustrative total is 22 + 46 = 68, about four points ahead of Somtochukwu although she scored 25 fewer marks in JAMB. If ESUT ranks on the UTME score alone, he is ahead. Since ESUT has not said, the only safe plan is to be strong on both.

To see why your O’level grades can still matter, here is a method some other Nigerian universities use: half the aggregate from the UTME (your score divided by 8, out of 50) and half from five O’level subjects (A1 = 10, B2 = 9, B3 = 8, C4 = 7, C5 = 6, C6 = 5, out of 50). ESUT has not published this or any other formula. I use it only to compare two candidates, never to predict an ESUT cut-off.

Safe target score for Building at ESUT (my advice)

My judgement, not an ESUT rule. Building is a smaller, less publicised course than Architecture or Civil Engineering, and many of its students listed it first. That helps applicants, but students offered Building after missing Architecture also compete for the same places.

Your 2026 UTME scoreMy read for ESUT Building
160 to 174Eligible for screening. Possible with good Mathematics and Physics grades.
175 to 189A fair chance.
190 to 209A good chance.
210 and aboveComfortable.

For the 2027 UTME I would aim for 200 or more.

Catchment and state of origin

ESUT does not publish a catchment list. It is owned by the Enugu State Government, so Enugu indigenes are its primary catchment, but it admits candidates from every state. The 45/35/20 split between merit, catchment and educationally less developed states is federal university policy, and ESUT has never stated it as its own, so do not plan around it.

JAMB subject combination and O’level for ESUT Building

RequirementBuilding (B.Sc.)
UTME subjectsUse of English, Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry; ESUT accepts Economics, Geography or Biology in place of Chemistry
O’levelFive credits in English Language, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and one of Geography, Economics, Arts or Technical Drawing
NTC holdersRelevant building trade subjects (such as Building Construction, Bricklaying or Carpentry) may be offered, per JAMB’s general rule
SittingsNot stated in ESUT’s advert. Two sittings is the common ceiling; one sitting is safer
Direct EntryA’level passes in Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry (JAMB’s general rule)
Special requirementsNone published by ESUT

These come from Myschool’s copy of the JAMB brochure page for Building. ESUT’s only remark there is in the UTME section: it accepts Economics, Geography or Biology in lieu of Chemistry. Confirm on JAMB’s e-brochure (IBASS) before you register.

That remark gives you room in JAMB but not at O’level. Chemistry remains one of the five listed O’level credits, so a candidate who swaps Chemistry for Geography in the UTME still needs a Chemistry credit in WAEC or NECO. If your Chemistry is strong, take it in the UTME too; our JAMB Chemistry syllabus guide lists the topics.

How to apply for Building at ESUT, step by step

  1. Get your JAMB profile code: text NIN, a space and your 11-digit NIN (for example NIN 12345678901) to 55019 or 66019 from the phone number linked to your NIN. JAMB replies with the profile code you need to buy the UTME form.
  2. Register the UTME with the right subjects: pick Use of English, Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry (or Economics, Geography or Biology in place of Chemistry, per ESUT’s remark) and choose ESUT and Building. ESUT’s 2026 advert also let candidates who chose another school apply after a JAMB change of institution, but choosing ESUT from the start saves you that step and its cost.
  3. Upload your O’level to CAPS: once your WAEC, NECO or NABTEB result is out, have it uploaded to your JAMB profile at an accredited CBT centre or JAMB office. ESUT’s advert makes this compulsory for every candidate, and a result that is missing on CAPS can hold your admission back even after ESUT picks you.
  4. Open the ESUT screening form: go to portal.esut.edu.ng, select the session, and under Regular Students open the Admission Screening Registration for that session (Direct Entry has its own form). Enter your JAMB registration number and fill the details form to generate an invoice.
  5. Pay ₦2,000: pay at a commercial bank through Enugu State IGR Pay Direct with the printed invoice and its reference number, or pay online with a debit card.
  6. Finish and print: return to the portal, re-enter your JAMB registration number, complete the form, confirm and submit, then print the acknowledgement slip. ESUT warns that false information leads to disqualification.
  7. Check and accept on CAPS: log in at efacility.jamb.gov.ng, choose Check Admission Status, then Access my CAPS and Admission Status. If ESUT has offered you Building, accept it, then print your JAMB admission letter.
  8. Pay the acceptance fee on the ESUT portal: blogs report ESUT’s acceptance fee at about ₦26,000 (₦26,100 in some reports). ESUT’s 2026/2027 notices I checked do not state it, so confirm the amount on the portal before you pay, and keep the receipt for clearance.

Warning

Paying ESUT’s acceptance fee does not accept your JAMB offer. Accept the admission on JAMB CAPS first, because an offer left unaccepted on CAPS can be withdrawn, and ESUT cannot register you without it.

Myschool reported that ESUT’s 2026/2027 admission list went up on JAMB CAPS on 13 October 2026. JAMB gives four weeks to accept, and told public universities to finish admissions by 31 October 2026. Myschool also reported ESUT change of course and transfer forms on 28 October 2026; I have not seen their terms.

If a CAPS status confuses you, our JAMB CAPS guide explains each one. Candidates who chose another school can read the JAMB change of institution guide, and if you plan to sit the UTME again, start with when JAMB 2027 registration starts.

Studying Building at ESUT

Building is in ESUT’s Faculty of Environmental Sciences and leads to a B.Sc. Many Nigerian universities run B.Sc. Building over five years, but I could not confirm ESUT’s duration on an ESUT page, so ask at clearance. ESUT’s main campus is at Agbani, Nkanu West, Enugu State; the notices I checked do not say which campus houses Environmental Sciences.

What you study

  • Early years: building materials, technical drawing, surveying basics, mathematics and general studies.
  • Middle years: building construction, structural design, building services (plumbing, electrical and mechanical), soil mechanics and site practice, usually with an industrial training placement.
  • Later years: construction management, project planning and scheduling, contract procedure, building maintenance and a final-year project.

This is the usual pattern of a Nigerian Building degree under the NUC’s standards, not ESUT’s published course list. The course leans towards managing construction on site, which is the main difference from Architecture (design) and Quantity Surveying (cost).

Accreditation and professional registration

The Enugu State Government reported in May 2025 that ESUT secured full NUC accreditation for programmes in its Faculty of Environmental Science, among others, after the 2024 exercise. That is a faculty-level statement. Professional builders in Nigeria register with the Council of Registered Builders of Nigeria (CORBON). I found no public record of CORBON’s accreditation status for ESUT Building, so it is not confirmed here; ask the department before you accept.

Career paths

  • Site engineer, site manager or project manager with construction firms.
  • Builder in state and federal ministries of works and housing, and development control agencies.
  • Building maintenance and facilities management.
  • Construction supervision for real estate developers.
  • Self-employment as a registered builder or contractor after CORBON registration.

Related ESUT courses to compare or list as a backup:

Architecture and Civil Engineering need 180 at ESUT in 2026/2027; Quantity Surveying and Estate Management fall under the 160 Environmental Sciences minimum.

Mistakes Building applicants make

  • Believing an “ESUT aggregate” from a blog: ESUT has not published one.
  • Dropping Chemistry entirely: ESUT accepts a substitute in the UTME, but Chemistry is still a listed O’level credit.
  • Treating 160 as the admission score: it only gets you screened.
  • Mismatched names: ESUT requires the same name across your O’level, UTME and other documents.
  • Paying acceptance before accepting on CAPS: the CAPS acceptance comes first.

ESUT cut off mark for Building: frequently asked questions

What is the ESUT aggregate score for Building? ESUT has not published an aggregate formula or score for Building. The official figure is the 160 minimum UTME score, and screening in 2026/2027 had no test.

Can I study Building in ESUT without Chemistry in JAMB? Yes. ESUT’s remark in the JAMB brochure accepts Economics, Geography or Biology in place of Chemistry in the UTME, but you still need a Chemistry credit at O’level.

Is 180 enough for Building in ESUT? 180 is 20 marks above the 160 minimum, so you can be screened and you have a fair chance. I would aim for 200 or more to be safe.

Can I use awaiting result for ESUT Building? Yes, for 2026/2027 ESUT accepted awaiting May/June 2026 WAEC, NECO and NABTEB results, but not results released after 30 September 2026.

Sources and updates

The 2026/2027 minimum UTME scores per course, the screening rules (eligibility, change of institution, Direct Entry clearance, awaiting results up to 30 September 2026, compulsory O’level upload on CAPS, no test, ₦2,000 fee, 7 July to 15 August 2026 window, portal and payment steps) come from ESUT’s notice Post-UTME Screening for UTME/Direct Entry Candidates for 2026/2027 Admission, posted on 4 July 2026, and the full advert PDF signed by the Registrar, Ambrose G. Ugwu. The 2025/2026 per-course minimums are from DTW Tutorials’ summary of ESUT’s 2025/2026 screening notice (30 July 2025); I did not open the original notice. The national minimum of 150, the 31 October 2026 admission deadline and the four-week CAPS acceptance window come from the News Agency of Nigeria, 11 May 2026. The release of the 2026/2027 admission list on CAPS on 13 October 2026 is from a Myschool report. ESUT’s faculty-level NUC accreditation is from the Enugu State Government, 21 May 2025. JAMB’s general Building requirements and ESUT’s UTME remark (Economics, Geography or Biology accepted in lieu of Chemistry) are from Myschool’s copy of the JAMB brochure page for Building, read on 29 October 2026; confirm them on JAMB’s e-brochure. The five-year duration, course outline and CORBON registration describe the usual Nigerian pattern; I found no ESUT or CORBON page confirming ESUT’s duration or CORBON status. The acceptance fee of about ₦26,000 is from education blogs (Legit.ng, O3schools, Backtoschool) and is unofficial. ESUT has not published an aggregate formula, a catchment list or a post-screening departmental cut-off, so none appears here as fact. This page was checked on 29 October 2026 and will be updated if ESUT releases new figures.
