IMT Printing Technology Cut-Off Mark 2027/2028 and Admission Requirements

The IMT Printing Technology cut off mark is JAMB’s polytechnic minimum of 100; IMT publishes no departmental figure. See my safe target, the UTME subjects, the fixed Chemistry credit, screening and HND route.

The IMT Printing Technology cut off mark is 100 in the UTME, JAMB’s national minimum for polytechnics for 2026/2027. The Institute of Management and Technology (IMT), Enugu, has not published a departmental figure for Printing Technology, so 100 is the official floor before IMT will consider your application. I explain below why I would aim higher and which subjects you cannot get wrong.

2027/2028 update: IMT cut-off marks usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the figures on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They come from the latest official notice (2026/2027). If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.

Printing Technology is in IMT’s School of Art, Design and Printing Technology, the school that carries the course in its name. The entry rules lean on science, though. JAMB’s brochure asks for Mathematics and Physics in the UTME, with Chemistry or Art as the fourth subject, and a Chemistry credit is fixed at O’level. There is no special IMT remark, so the general rule is the IMT rule.

Further down are the 120 IMT used in 2024, my safe target, the full O’level list, IMT’s screening method, worked examples, the CAPS steps and the HND route.

IMT cut-off mark history for Printing Technology

IMT does not publish a separate cut-off mark for each ND course. What exists is the national floor JAMB sets for every polytechnic, and one threshold IMT itself used in 2024.

SessionFigureWhat it isStatus
2026/2027100JAMB national minimum for polytechnics and monotechnicsOfficial (NAN, 11 May 2026)
2025/2026100JAMB national minimum for polytechnicsOfficial (Nairametrics and Channels TV, 8 July 2025)
2023/2024120IMT’s threshold for its advertised courses round, which listed Printing TechnologyOfficial IMT Registrar notices, March 2024

The 120 comes from two notices the IMT Registrar posted on imt.edu.ng in March 2024. They invited candidates from the 2023/2024 UTME who had scored 120 or more and had not yet been admitted to apply for courses that still had places. Printing Technology headed the list for the School of Art, Design and Printing Technology. No 2026/2027 IMT notice that I could open repeats the 120, so treat JAMB’s 100 as the floor and aim to clear 120.

Safe target score for Printing Technology at IMT (my advice)

IMT has never published a score band for Printing Technology. The bands below are my judgement, from how technical courses with a science entry rule fill at state polytechnics in the South East and from IMT’s 2024 notice, which offered spare places in the course to candidates with 120 or more. Use them for planning only.

Your UTME scoreMy read for Printing Technology at IMT
Below 100Not eligible for any polytechnic, IMT included
100 to 114Eligible to apply; credits in Mathematics, Chemistry and English matter most
115 to 129Possible
130 to 139Competitive
140 and aboveStrong for Printing Technology at IMT

Printing Technology is a niche choice. Few candidates put it first, and the 2024 notice shows it had places left after the main round. In my reading, a candidate with the right subjects and about 120 to 130 stands a fair chance. For the 2027 UTME I would aim for at least 120, ideally 140, which also keeps science courses like Science Laboratory Technology open if you change your mind.

Catchment and state of origin

IMT is owned by Enugu State, so Enugu indigenes are its home catchment, but it admits candidates from every state. IMT has not published a merit, catchment or quota split for its ND courses. Your UTME score, the core O’level credits and getting your documents in early count for more than your state of origin.

IMT Printing Technology subject combination and O’level requirements

RequirementPrinting Technology (ND) at IMT
General UTME ruleUse of English, Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry or Art
IMT remark (UTME)None in the brochure
Combinations that fit IMTEnglish, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry; or English, Mathematics, Physics, Fine Art
General O’level ruleFive credits in Mathematics and Chemistry plus three from Physics, Book Keeping and Principles of Accounts, Economics or Commerce, Metal Work, Basic Electricity, Technical Drawing or Fine Art
English LanguageCredit compulsory
IMT remark (O’level)None in the brochure
Exams acceptedWAEC, NECO or NABTEB (SSCE or GCE), at most two sittings
Direct EntryNot used for ND. HND entry is with a relevant ND through IMT’s HND form

The brochure’s wording for the UTME is “Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry or Art”. Read with JAMB’s usual style, that means Mathematics and Physics are fixed and the fourth subject is either Chemistry or Art (Fine Art on the JAMB subject list). Most science-class candidates should register Chemistry. Fine Art suits a candidate who draws well and also has Physics.

The O’level rule names five credits (Mathematics, Chemistry and three from the list) and separately makes an English credit compulsory. English is not on the list of three, so plan for six credits including English unless IMT tells you English counts inside the five. That is the safer reading. Note also that Chemistry is fixed at O’level even if your UTME fourth subject is Fine Art.

Some polytechnics go their own way here. The brochure notes that Yaba Tech accepts Physics or Chemistry and a long list of other subjects, and that Kaduna Polytechnic wants Physics with two of Mathematics, Technical Drawing, Economics and Chemistry. Those remarks do not apply to IMT.

Direct Entry and HND

There is no Direct Entry into ND1, so every ND place goes through the UTME and CAPS. A reprinted IMT HND list, which I could not trace to an IMT page, shows Printing Technology as an option under HND Fine Arts. IMT’s own 2019/2020 HND notice asked for a relevant ND with a CGPA of at least 2.50, or a lower CGPA backed by at least two years of verifiable industrial attachment, with a ₦5,000 form. Confirm the current terms on the portal. Our IMT HND admission requirements guide covers that route.

How IMT screens ND Printing Technology candidates

IMT’s website links a notice titled “Call for 2026/2027 admission into ND and HND programs (regular and part-time)”, and applications run through the SLMS application page on portal.imt.edu.ng. I could not open the 2026/2027 call itself, so the newest confirmed details on how IMT screens ND candidates come from its official 2023/2024 notices. Those notices said IMT would hold no post-UTME examination for its diploma programmes that session and would admit on verified JAMB scores plus O’level results uploaded to CAPS.

Worked examples for Printing Technology applicants

IMT has not published an aggregate formula for ND admission. Some blogs print one, but none cites an IMT document. These examples measure the gap between a UTME score, the national floor and my safe target, then check the subjects against the brochure.

Take Somto, who scored 131 in English, Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry. From one WAEC sitting she has C5 in English, B3 in Mathematics, C6 in Physics, C5 in Chemistry, C4 in Economics, B3 in Technical Drawing and C6 in Biology.

  1. Eligibility: 131 minus 100 = 31. She is clear of JAMB’s polytechnic minimum.
  2. Against my safe target: 131 minus 120 = 11. She is in the competitive band.
  3. UTME subjects: Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry match the general rule.
  4. O’level: Mathematics and Chemistry are fixed; Physics, Economics and Technical Drawing fill the three list places; English is there as required. Biology is not on the list, so it does not count.
  5. What I would advise: keep Printing Technology at IMT and fill the form as soon as it opens.

Tobenna scored 140 with English, Mathematics, Physics and Fine Art. His UTME fits. His O’level has credits in English, Mathematics, Physics, Fine Art and Technical Drawing, but Chemistry is an E8. Chemistry is a fixed O’level credit for this course, so IMT cannot admit him on this result. A NECO or WAEC GCE resit in Chemistry before screening, uploaded to CAPS, would fix it. If he cannot resit in time, IMT’s Art and Design (Fine Art) course does not require Chemistry at O’level, but its UTME rule needs Fine Art plus two of History, Chemistry, Mathematics, Biology and a Nigerian language, which his Physics does not satisfy.

How to apply for Printing Technology at IMT, step by step

  1. Get your JAMB profile code: send NIN, a space and your 11-digit NIN to 55019 or 66019 from the phone line linked to your NIN.
  2. Confirm the course on IMT’s list: Printing Technology is on IMT’s course list in JAMB’s brochure as reprinted by Myschool. Open the IMT Enugu entry on JAMB’s e-brochure when you register and check it still shows.
  3. Register for the UTME: Choose Printing Technology under IMT Enugu, register English, Mathematics, Physics and either Chemistry or Fine Art, and pick IMT as your polytechnic choice. If you picked another school first, a JAMB change of institution is possible before IMT closes its form, and a JAMB change of course fixes a wrong course.
  4. Upload your O’level to CAPS: go to an accredited CBT centre and have your WAEC, NECO or NABTEB result uploaded. IMT’s 2023/2024 notices made this upload part of the admission decision, and no school can recommend you on CAPS without it.
  5. Fill IMT’s application form: when the admission call appears on imt.edu.ng, open portal.imt.edu.ng, click Apply, fill the form, choose Interswitch to generate an invoice, pay and print the acknowledgement slip. Use an email address and phone number you check daily.
  6. Check your status: use the admission checker on the IMT portal, then log in at efacility.jamb.gov.ng, choose Check Admission Status and open CAPS.
  7. Accept within four weeks: JAMB gave candidates four weeks to accept 2026 offers. Our JAMB CAPS guide explains every status you might see.
  8. Pay acceptance and clear: blogs put IMT’s acceptance fee at ₦25,000, but IMT has not published it in any source I reached. Pay only against an invoice generated on the IMT portal.

Warning

Every genuine IMT offer appears on JAMB CAPS. Anyone selling an “IMT Printing Technology slot” or a place on a special list is outside the process. Pay fees only through invoices generated on portal.imt.edu.ng.

Your chances of getting Printing Technology at IMT

JAMB’s 100 only gets you to the starting line. For Printing Technology, the first filter is the subject rule: Mathematics and Physics in the UTME, and Chemistry at O’level whatever your fourth UTME subject was. After that, your score and your English and Mathematics credits decide it.

IMT’s 2024 advertised courses notice listed Printing Technology among courses with places still open after the main round, for candidates with 120 or more. That tells me the course does not always fill from first-choice applicants. If you have the right subjects and a score around 120 or above, your chances are fair, and if you miss the main round, watch imt.edu.ng for a similar notice. The course is not on IMT’s part-time list, so plan for the full-time ND.

Studying Printing Technology at IMT Enugu

Printing Technology trains the technicians who turn a design into a printed product: books, newspapers, labels, packaging, banners and security documents. It sits between art and engineering. You learn layout and colour, and you also learn to run, maintain and troubleshoot printing presses, which is why the entry rule leans on Physics and Chemistry.

What you study

IMT has not put its Printing Technology course outline online, so the list below describes what ND printing programmes generally cover in Nigerian polytechnics. Ask the department for its own outline at registration.

  • Pre-press: typography, layout, image preparation and plate making.
  • Printing processes: offset lithography, screen printing, flexography and digital printing.
  • Print chemistry: inks, paper, substrates and colour.
  • Machine practice: press operation, maintenance and safety.
  • Finishing: binding, cutting, folding and packaging.
  • Print business: estimating, costing and production planning.
  • Practical work: workshop production and a SIWES placement with a printing firm.

Accreditation

At IMT’s Global Homecoming on 13 June 2026, the Rector, Prof. Sunday Gozie Ogbodo, said all courses offered by IMT are now fully accredited, after more than 70% of programmes had lost accreditation by the time he took office in 2024. An NBTE accreditation team visited in November 2025. NBTE has not published a programme-by-programme result for Printing Technology at IMT that I could find, so its individual status is not confirmed. Printing practice in Nigeria is regulated by the Chartered Institute of Professional Printers of Nigeria (CIPPON). Check its membership and registration rules directly once you finish your ND or HND. Ask the department to show the current accreditation letter during clearance if this matters to you.

Careers

  • Press operator or machine minder in a commercial printing firm
  • Pre-press or graphics technician preparing files and plates
  • Production supervisor in packaging and label printing
  • Running a small printing or branding business
  • Further study to HND, or a degree in printing or graphic arts

For the UTME itself, our JAMB Chemistry syllabus for 2027 covers the fourth subject most Printing Technology candidates take.

If you are writing the UTME again, read when JAMB 2027 registration starts and see what to do with your JAMB score once results are out.

Mistakes that cost Printing Technology applicants an IMT place

  • Treating 100 as admission: it only makes you eligible to apply.
  • Leaving out Physics: it is fixed in the UTME with Mathematics.
  • No Chemistry credit at O’level: it is fixed even if your UTME subject is Fine Art.
  • Counting English as one of the five: plan for English on top of the five listed credits.
  • Biology as an O’level option: it is not on this course’s list.
  • No O’level upload on CAPS: IMT’s 2023/2024 notices admitted on JAMB score and uploaded O’level together.

IMT Printing Technology cut off mark: frequently asked questions
