The IMT Fashion Design and Clothing Technology cut off mark is 100 in the UTME, JAMB’s national minimum for polytechnics for 2026/2027. The Institute of Management and Technology (IMT), Enugu, has not published a departmental figure for the course, so 100 is the official floor before IMT will consider you. I would plan for a higher score, for reasons set out below.
2027/2028 update: IMT cut-off marks usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the figures on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They come from the latest official notice (2026/2027). If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.
The course sits in IMT’s School of Art, Design and Printing Technology. IMT’s own notices shorten the name: the 2024 admission notice calls it Fashion and Design, and the part-time page lists it as Fashion, Designing and Creative Technology. On the JAMB portal it appears as Fashion Design and Clothing Technology. The UTME rule surprises many applicants: Chemistry is compulsory, and Fine Art is not one of the UTME options at IMT.
Further down are the 120 IMT used in 2024, my safe target, IMT’s own O’level remark, the screening method, worked examples, the CAPS steps and the part-time route.
IMT Fashion Design and Clothing Technology cut off mark at a glance
| Item | 2026/2027 position | Status |
|---|---|---|
| JAMB minimum UTME score for polytechnics (applies to IMT) | 100 | Official (JAMB 2026 policy meeting, reported by NAN on 11 May 2026) |
| IMT’s own cut-off for Fashion Design | Not published | No IMT departmental figure for 2025/2026 or 2026/2027 in any source I reached |
| My safe target score (advice) | 120 or higher; 140 is comfortable | Consultant advice, not an IMT rule |
| School at IMT | School of Art, Design and Printing Technology | IMT Registrar notice, March 2024 |
| Level and award | National Diploma (ND) | ND is the UTME entry point |
| Duration | 2 years full-time for ND; part-time runs longer | NBTE standard ND length; IMT part-time page |
| UTME subjects | English, Chemistry, and two of Biology or Agricultural Science, Physics, Mathematics | JAMB brochure; no IMT UTME remark |

| Part-time | Yes | imt.edu.ng part-time page |
IMT cut-off mark history for Fashion Design
IMT does not publish a separate cut-off mark for each ND course. What exists is the national floor JAMB sets for every polytechnic, and one threshold IMT itself used in 2024.
| Session | Figure | What it is | Status |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2026/2027 | 100 | JAMB national minimum for polytechnics and monotechnics | Official (NAN, 11 May 2026) |
| 2025/2026 | 100 | JAMB national minimum for polytechnics | Official (Nairametrics and Channels TV, 8 July 2025) |
| 2023/2024 | 120 | IMT’s threshold for its advertised courses round, which listed Fashion and Design | Official IMT Registrar notices, March 2024 |
The 120 comes from two notices the IMT Registrar posted on imt.edu.ng in March 2024. They invited candidates from the 2023/2024 UTME who had scored 120 or more and had not yet been admitted to apply for courses that still had places. Fashion and Design was on that list, next to Printing Technology and Fine and Applied Arts. No 2026/2027 IMT notice that I could open repeats the 120, so treat JAMB’s 100 as the floor and aim to clear 120.
Safe target score for Fashion Design at IMT (my advice)
IMT has never published a score band for Fashion Design. The bands below are my judgement, from how design courses fill at state polytechnics in the South East and from IMT’s 2024 notice, which offered spare places in the course to candidates with 120 or more. Use them for planning only.
| Your UTME score | My read for Fashion Design at IMT |
|---|---|
| Below 100 | Not eligible for any polytechnic, IMT included |
| 100 to 114 | Eligible to apply; the right subjects and clean credits matter most |
| 115 to 129 | Possible |
| 130 to 139 | Competitive |
| 140 and above | Strong for Fashion Design at IMT |
Fashion attracts many candidates who sew already and want a diploma, but a good share of them sit the UTME with Economics or Fine Art and no Chemistry, and those candidates cannot be offered the course. That shrinks the real competition. For the 2027 UTME I would aim for at least 120, ideally 140.
Catchment and state of origin
IMT is owned by Enugu State, so Enugu indigenes are its home catchment, but it admits candidates from every state. IMT has not published a merit, catchment or quota split for its ND courses. Your UTME score, the core O’level credits and getting your documents in early count for more than your state of origin.
IMT Fashion Design and Clothing Technology subject combination and O’level requirements
| Requirement | Fashion Design and Clothing Technology (ND) at IMT |
|---|---|
| General UTME rule | Use of English, Chemistry, and any two of Biology or Agricultural Science, Physics, Mathematics |
| IMT remark (UTME) | None in the brochure, so the general rule applies |
| Combinations that fit IMT | English, Chemistry, Biology, Mathematics; English, Chemistry, Agricultural Science, Physics; English, Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics |
| General O’level rule | Home Economics or Technical Drawing, plus any four of Fine Art, History, Physics, Chemistry, Biology or Agricultural Science, Mathematics, Clothing and Textiles, Literature in English, English Language, Home Management; English credit compulsory |
| IMT’s own O’level remark | Credits in English Language and Mathematics, plus any three of Clothing and Textiles or Food and Nutrition or Home Management, Technical Drawing or Fine Art, History, Physics, Chemistry, Biology or Agricultural Science, Literature in English, and relevant NTC, NBC or NVC trades |
| Exams accepted | WAEC, NECO or NABTEB (SSCE or GCE), at most two sittings |
| Direct Entry | Not used for ND |
The UTME rule is science-based. Some polytechnics bend it (the brochure says Oko accepts Fine Art and Economics, and Kaduna Polytechnic accepts a wider mix), but there is no IMT remark, so at IMT you need Chemistry plus two of Biology or Agricultural Science, Physics and Mathematics.
IMT’s own O’level remark is friendlier than the general rule. You need credits in English and Mathematics, then any three from IMT’s list. Clothing and Textiles, Food and Nutrition or Home Management count as one option, and IMT also accepts relevant NTC, NBC or NVC trade results from NABTEB. A candidate who trained in garment making at a technical college can use that trade certificate.
One gap to watch: the IMT O’level list does not force Chemistry, but your UTME does. I would not sit a UTME Chemistry paper without having at least studied it at O’level, and a Chemistry credit also counts as one of your three IMT options.
HND after the ND
The reprinted IMT HND list I found does not include Fashion Design, and IMT has not published an HND list for it. If you want an HND in the field, confirm with the department before you enrol whether IMT runs one, or plan to move to a polytechnic that does. IMT’s 2019/2020 HND notice set the general rule: a relevant ND with a CGPA of at least 2.50, or lower with two years of verifiable industrial attachment. See our IMT HND admission requirements guide.
How IMT screens ND Fashion Design candidates
IMT’s website links a notice titled “Call for 2026/2027 admission into ND and HND programs (regular and part-time)”, and applications run through the SLMS application page on portal.imt.edu.ng. I could not open the 2026/2027 call itself, so the newest confirmed details on how IMT screens ND candidates come from its official 2023/2024 notices. Those notices said IMT would hold no post-UTME examination for its diploma programmes that session and would admit on verified JAMB scores plus O’level results uploaded to CAPS.
| Detail | What we know | Status |
|---|---|---|
| Who applies | Candidates who chose IMT in the UTME and scored at least the JAMB minimum | Standard JAMB rule |
| Where | portal.imt.edu.ng (SLMS Application) | Confirmed link on imt.edu.ng |
| Form fee | ₦2,000 in 2023/2024 | Official IMT notice, March 2024; confirm the 2026/2027 fee on the portal |
| Payment | Interswitch at a bank under Enugu State IGR, or by card through IMT’s Quickteller link | Official IMT notice, March 2024 |
| Screening method | No post-UTME for diploma programmes in 2023/2024; admission on verified JAMB score and O’level on CAPS | Official for 2023/2024; IMT has not published the 2026/2027 method |
| Part-time option | Listed as “Fashion, Designing and Creative Technology” on IMT’s official part-time page; the page says JAMB is not a strict requirement and part-time ND runs over six semesters | imt.edu.ng; confirm the current part-time form |
| Admission deadline for polytechnics (2026/2027 cycle) | Runs until 31 December 2026 | Official (JAMB, via NAN) |
| Time to accept an offer on CAPS | Four weeks | Official (JAMB, via NAN) |
Worked examples for Fashion Design applicants
IMT has not published an aggregate formula for ND admission. These examples measure the gap between a UTME score, the national floor and my safe target, then check the subjects against the brochure.
Take Chioma, who scored 124 in English, Chemistry, Biology and Mathematics. Her WAEC result (one sitting) has C5 in English, C6 in Mathematics, B3 in Clothing and Textiles, C5 in Biology, C6 in Chemistry and C4 in Literature in English.
- Eligibility: 124 minus 100 = 24. She is clear of JAMB’s polytechnic minimum.
- Against my safe target: 124 minus 120 = 4. She is in the possible band.
- UTME subjects: Chemistry is there, and Biology and Mathematics are both allowed options.
- O’level (IMT remark): English and Mathematics are the fixed credits. Clothing and Textiles, Biology and Chemistry fill the three options, with Literature as a spare.
- What I would advise: keep the course, upload the result to CAPS early and fill the IMT form on the first day.
Obinna scored 148 with English, Economics, Fine Art and Biology. He has a strong score and a real talent for design, but without Chemistry he does not meet the UTME rule, and IMT has no remark that accepts Economics or Fine Art. Art and Design at IMT will not rescue him either, because Economics is not on that course’s UTME list. His realistic options are the part-time route, where IMT says JAMB is not a strict requirement, or a fresh UTME with Chemistry.
How to apply for Fashion Design at IMT, step by step
- Get your JAMB profile code: send NIN, a space and your 11-digit NIN to 55019 or 66019 from the phone line linked to your NIN.
- Confirm the course on IMT’s list: Fashion Design and Clothing Technology is on IMT’s course list in JAMB’s brochure as reprinted by Myschool. Open the IMT Enugu entry on JAMB’s e-brochure when you register and check it still shows.
- Register for the UTME: Choose Fashion Design and Clothing Technology under IMT Enugu, register English, Chemistry and two of Biology or Agricultural Science, Physics and Mathematics, and pick IMT as your polytechnic choice. If you picked another school first, a JAMB change of institution is possible before IMT closes its form, and a JAMB change of course fixes a wrong course.
- Upload your O’level to CAPS: go to an accredited CBT centre and have your WAEC, NECO or NABTEB result uploaded. IMT’s 2023/2024 notices made this upload part of the admission decision, and no school can recommend you on CAPS without it.
- Fill IMT’s application form: when the admission call appears on imt.edu.ng, open portal.imt.edu.ng, click Apply, fill the form, choose Interswitch to generate an invoice, pay and print the acknowledgement slip. Use an email address and phone number you check daily.
- Check your status: use the admission checker on the IMT portal, then log in at efacility.jamb.gov.ng, choose Check Admission Status and open CAPS.
- Accept within four weeks: JAMB gave candidates four weeks to accept 2026 offers. Our JAMB CAPS guide explains every status you might see.
- Pay acceptance and clear: blogs put IMT’s acceptance fee at ₦25,000, but IMT has not published it in any source I reached. Pay only against an invoice generated on the IMT portal.
Warning
Every genuine IMT offer appears on JAMB CAPS. Anyone selling an “IMT Fashion Design slot” or a place on a special list is outside the process. Pay fees only through invoices generated on portal.imt.edu.ng.
Your chances of getting Fashion Design at IMT
JAMB’s 100 only makes you eligible. For Fashion Design, the subject rule is the first real filter, because Chemistry is compulsory in the UTME. After that come your credits in English and Mathematics and the three options on IMT’s list.
IMT’s 2024 advertised courses notice listed Fashion and Design among the courses with places still open after the main round, for candidates with 120 or more. In my reading the course does not always fill from first-choice applicants. A candidate around 120 to 130 with the right subjects and documents has a fair chance, and anyone who misses the main round should watch imt.edu.ng for a similar notice.
If you already work as a tailor or designer, look closely at the part-time route. IMT lists the course on its part-time page and says JAMB is not a strict requirement for part-time entry. Confirm the current part-time terms on the portal before you pay anything.
Studying Fashion Design and Clothing Technology at IMT Enugu
The ND teaches you to design, cut and produce clothing to a professional standard, and to understand the fabrics you work with. The science requirement makes sense once you see the course: textile science, dyeing and fabric care all rest on basic chemistry.
What you study
IMT has not put its fashion course outline online, so the list below describes what ND fashion and clothing programmes generally cover in Nigerian polytechnics. Ask the department for its own outline at registration.
- Fashion illustration and design: sketching, colour and design development.
- Pattern drafting: making and grading patterns from measurements.
- Garment construction: cutting, sewing, fitting and finishing.
- Textile science: fibres, yarns, fabric properties and testing.
- Dyeing and printing: tie and dye, batik and fabric printing.
- Clothing business: costing, small business management and marketing.
- Practical work: workshop projects, a fashion show or exhibition and a SIWES placement.
Accreditation
At IMT’s Global Homecoming on 13 June 2026, the Rector, Prof. Sunday Gozie Ogbodo, said all courses offered by IMT are now fully accredited, after more than 70% of programmes had lost accreditation by the time he took office in 2024. An NBTE accreditation team visited in November 2025. NBTE has not published a programme-by-programme result for Fashion Design and Clothing Technology at IMT that I could find, so its individual status is not confirmed. There is no licensing council for fashion designers in Nigeria, so your ND, your portfolio and your skill are what employers and clients look at. Ask the department to show the current accreditation letter during clearance if this matters to you.

Mistakes that cost Fashion Design applicants an IMT place
- Treating 100 as admission: it only makes you eligible to apply.
- No Chemistry in the UTME: it is compulsory, and IMT has no waiver.
- Economics or Fine Art as UTME subjects: some polytechnics accept them, IMT does not.
- Missing a Mathematics credit: IMT’s O’level remark makes it compulsory with English.
- Forgetting your NABTEB trade result: IMT accepts relevant NTC, NBC or NVC trades, so upload it if you have one.
- No O’level upload on CAPS: IMT’s 2023/2024 notices admitted on JAMB score and uploaded O’level together.
IMT Fashion Design and Clothing Technology cut off mark: frequently asked questions
What is the IMT cut off mark for Fashion Design? It is 100, JAMB’s 2026 minimum for polytechnics. IMT has not published a separate figure for the course, so I would aim for 120 or more.
What are the JAMB subjects for Fashion Design in IMT Enugu? English, Chemistry and any two of Biology or Agricultural Science, Physics and Mathematics. IMT has no remark that changes this.
Can I use Fine Art instead of Chemistry for Fashion Design in IMT? No. A few polytechnics accept Fine Art, but the brochure has no such remark for IMT, so Chemistry stays compulsory.
Does IMT offer Fashion Design part time? Yes. IMT’s part-time page lists Fashion, Designing and Creative Technology and says JAMB is not a strict requirement for part-time entry. Check the current form on portal.imt.edu.ng.

The 100 minimum for polytechnics in 2026, the 31 December 2026 admission deadline for the 2026/2027 cycle and the four-week acceptance window come from the News Agency of Nigeria report of JAMB’s 2026 policy meeting (11 May 2026). The 2025 minimum of 100 is from Nairametrics and Channels TV (8 July 2025). The UTME subjects, the O’level list and any IMT remark come from Myschool’s reprint of the JAMB brochure entry for Fashion Design and Clothing Technology, and the course’s place on IMT’s list from Myschool’s IMT Enugu course list, both checked on 29 October 2026. The 120 threshold, the ₦2,000 form fee, the payment channels, the 2024 list of advertised courses and the no post-UTME rule for 2023/2024 are from IMT Registrar notices on imt.edu.ng dated 4 March 2024 and 22 March 2024.
