Ibom Metropolitan Poly Cut-Off Mark for Accountancy 2027/2028: Requirements, Subject Combination and Screening

The Ibom Metropolitan Poly cut off mark for Accountancy is JAMB’s polytechnic minimum of 100; no departmental figure is published. See the safe target score, UTME subjects, O’level rules, NBTE status, screening and CAPS steps.

The Ibom Metropolitan Poly cut off mark for Accountancy is 100 in the UTME, which is JAMB’s national minimum for polytechnics in 2026/2027. Ibom Metropolitan Polytechnic has not published a separate cut-off for ND Accountancy, and I found no departmental figure for any year. The school’s website gives no admission details, so the JAMB floor is the figure to work with.

2027/2028 update: Ibom Metropolitan Poly cut-off marks usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the figures on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They come from the latest official notice (2026/2027). If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.

Ibom Metropolitan Polytechnic is a private polytechnic founded in 2014 by Dr Victor E. U. Utong. JAMB’s list places it at Atan Offot, Uyo, and the school describes its site as behind the State Secretariat in Uyo, while NBTE’s 2025 Directory heads its entry “Oruk-Anam”. Accountancy is on JAMB’s course list for the school (as “Accountancy”), and its line in NBTE’s 2025 Directory reads: Accredited (first granted 2021; 2023 accreditation, expires 1 October 2028).

JAMB kept the polytechnic floor at 100 for two years running, and Ibom Metropolitan has not announced a higher figure for any course. A polytechnic may set a higher mark for itself or for a busy course, so treat 100 as the legal minimum and aim higher if you can.

Safe target score (my advice)

For 2027 I would aim for 120 or more in the UTME for Accountancy at Ibom Metropolitan Poly. That is my own target, based on how small private polytechnics in Akwa Ibom usually fill their classes; the school publishes no merit list or applicant numbers. If you land between 100 and 120 you can still apply, and your O’level grades and screening will carry more weight.

Ibom Metropolitan Poly Accountancy subject combination and O’level requirements

RequirementND Accountancy
UTME subjectsUse of English, Mathematics and any two of Geography, Commerce, Government, Principles of Accounts and Economics
My suggested UTME combinationEnglish, Mathematics, Economics and Principles of Accounts (Commerce also works in place of either)
O’level (WAEC, NECO or NABTEB)Five credits including English Language (not Literature) and Mathematics, plus three from Economics or Commerce, Business Methods, Principles of Accounts, Literature in English, Geography, Office Practice, Government, Biology or Agricultural Science, Chemistry, Physics, History, Typewriting and Shorthand
SittingsTwo sittings at most under the standard NBTE rule; the school has not published its own
Ibom Metropolitan Poly remark in the brochureNone found; the base rule applies
Interview or practicalNone published

Mathematics is the only fixed subject after Use of English. Economics with Principles of Accounts is the pair I would pick, because ND1 starts with financial accounting and economics, and the WAEC topics carry straight over. Commerce, Government and Geography are also on the list, so a candidate from an arts class who took Government and Commerce is not shut out.

At O’level, English Language must be a credit, and Literature in English does not replace it. Mathematics must also be a credit. A D7 in Mathematics ends an Accountancy application at any polytechnic, however high your UTME score.

Direct Entry and HND

ND entry is through the UTME; there is no Direct Entry route into ND1. After the ND and a year of industrial attachment you can apply for HND Accountancy, or use the ND to start professional accounting exams such as ICAN’s foundation level. ICAN and ANAN set their own entry rules, so check them directly. NBTE lists HND Accountancy at the school on interim approval to 1 October 2027.

Ibom Metropolitan Poly screening and how selection works

Ibom Metropolitan has not published a 2026/2027 screening notice, form price or test format that I could find, and its website carries no admission page. Private polytechnics of its size usually sell forms at the admissions office or on a portal, check documents, and may hold a short test or interview. Ask the office these questions:

  • Is ND Accountancy admitting full-time students for 2027/2028, and is it listed for the school on JAMB CAPS?
  • What is the current NBTE accreditation status of the course?
  • How much is the form, where do I pay, and what is the closing date?
  • Is there a written test, and on which subjects?
  • What are the acceptance fee and first-year fees, and is there a hostel?

Worked example (illustrative)

Take Aniekan, who wants Accountancy at Ibom Metropolitan Poly. Aniekan scored 128 in English, Mathematics, Economics and Principles of Accounts, and has English, Mathematics, Economics, Financial Accounting, Commerce and Biology in one WAEC sitting.

  1. JAMB minimum: 128 is 28 above 100, so Aniekan is eligible.
  2. My safe target: 128 clears my 120 line for Accountancy.
  3. UTME subjects: Economics and Principles of Accounts are both on the brochure list, with Mathematics fixed.
  4. O’level: English and Mathematics are credits, and Economics, Financial Accounting (the WAEC name for Principles of Accounts) and Commerce cover the other three.
  5. School listing: before paying for anything, Aniekan checks that Ibom Metropolitan Poly shows Accountancy on the JAMB portal.

If the school used a 50:50 aggregate, 128 divided by 8 gives 16 out of 50, and 30 out of 50 at screening would bring the total to 46. That formula is only an illustration. Ibom Metropolitan Poly has not published one, and small private polytechnics often admit every candidate who meets the rules.

How to apply for Accountancy at Ibom Metropolitan Poly, step by step

  1. Get your JAMB profile code: text NIN, a space and your 11-digit NIN to 55019 or 66019 from the phone line linked to your NIN.
  2. Register the UTME with the right subjects: use English, Mathematics, Economics and Principles of Accounts, and choose Ibom Metropolitan Polytechnic, Atan Offot as your polytechnic. If you chose another school, do a JAMB change of institution before screening.
  3. Upload your O’level result to CAPS: go to an accredited JAMB CBT centre once your WAEC, NECO or NABTEB result is out. CAPS cannot offer you admission without it.
  4. Contact the school: visit Ibom Metropolitan Polytechnic in Uyo or use the contacts on its website, confirm the course is admitting, and buy the form only from the school. Keep every receipt.
  5. Attend screening: take your UTME result slip, O’level result, birth certificate or age declaration, local government identification and passport photographs.
  6. Accept on CAPS: log in at efacility.jamb.gov.ng, open Check Admission Status, then Access my CAPS, and accept the offer. Our JAMB CAPS guide explains each status.
  7. Pay acceptance and register: get the amounts in writing from the bursary, pay only through the channel the school names, and complete medical and departmental registration.

Warning

Ibom Metropolitan Polytechnic is a different school from Akwa Ibom State Polytechnic, Ikot Osurua. Check the name on your JAMB registration, buy forms only from the school, and remember that JAMB treats any admission outside CAPS as illegal.

Your chances and my advice

  • You can pick Accountancy under Ibom Metropolitan when you register, which removes the biggest risk with small private polytechnics.
  • NBTE accreditation runs to 1 October 2028, which covers a two-year ND that starts in 2027/2028.
  • The school advertises a City and Guilds affiliation under the slogan “One Polytechnic, Two Qualifications”. Ask what the extra certificate costs and whether it is optional.
  • Living in Uyo costs more than in smaller towns, so price rent and transport into your plan if you are not from the city.
  • JAMB told polytechnics to finish 2026/2027 admissions by 31 December 2026, so current candidates should keep checking CAPS until then.

What you study in ND Accountancy

ND Accountancy runs for two years under NBTE’s national curriculum, with a SIWES industrial placement. You learn to record transactions, prepare and read financial statements, cost products and services, and handle basic tax and audit work. Most of ND1 is foundation work; ND2 moves into cost accounting, taxation and auditing.

AreaTypical topics
Financial accountingDouble entry, trial balance, final accounts of sole traders, partnerships and companies
Cost accountingCosting methods, overheads, budgeting basics
TaxationPersonal income tax and company tax in Nigeria
AuditingAudit planning, internal control, audit reports
Supporting coursesBusiness law, economics, business mathematics, computer applications and communication skills

Ibom Metropolitan Poly has not published its own course outline, so the table follows NBTE’s usual ND pattern. Typical first jobs with the ND include accounts clerk, bookkeeper, cashier, payroll officer, audit assistant in a small firm, tax office assistant, or bookkeeping for small businesses on your own account.

Accreditation

NBTE’s 25th Edition Directory of Accredited Programmes (2025) lists ND Accountancy at Ibom Metropolitan Polytechnic as: Accredited (first granted 2021; 2023 accreditation, expires 1 October 2028). The school says on its website that it received NBTE accreditation in 2021 and held its first matriculation on 22 April 2022. NBTE lists HND Accountancy at the school on interim approval to 1 October 2027.
