Hope Polytechnic admission requirements, on paper, are the national ones for any polytechnic: a UTME score of at least 100, JAMB’s minimum for 2026/2027, and five O’level credits including English Language and Mathematics. The school, a private polytechnic at Ndon Utibe, Ikono in Akwa Ibom State, has published no cut-off of its own. The bigger issue is accreditation: NBTE’s 2025 Directory of Accredited Programmes shows every programme at Hope Polytechnic as Expired, with an expiration date of 1 October 2024.
2027/2028 update: Hope Poly cut-off marks usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the figures on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They come from the latest official notice (2026/2027). If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.
I am not saying the school is closed or fake. It is on JAMB’s polytechnic list, and NBTE has a heading for it. But an ND from a programme whose accreditation has lapsed can cause trouble later, when you apply for an HND or for jobs that check certificates. So before you choose Hope Polytechnic, confirm two things in writing: current NBTE accreditation for your course, and the school’s listing on JAMB CAPS with your course under it. If either is missing, the polytechnics further down this page are safer choices.

What NBTE’s 2025 directory shows
NBTE’s 25th Edition Directory, uploaded in November 2025, prints this under the heading “HOPE POLYTECHNIC, IKONO, AKWA IBOM STATE”:
| Programme | Year granted | Status | Expiration date |
|---|---|---|---|
| ND Electrical/Electronic Engineering | 2022 | Expired | 1 October 2024 |
| ND Computer Engineering | 2022 | Expired | 1 October 2024 |
| ND Computer Science | 2022 | Expired | 1 October 2024 |
| ND Statistics | 2022 | Expired | 1 October 2024 |
| Institutional Administration | 2022 | Expired | 1 October 2024 |
The rows in Hope’s section are numbered from 2, so one programme may be missing from the printed table. Even so, every row that is printed says Expired.
NBTE grants each programme approval for a fixed period, then sends a panel to inspect before it renews. When the period ends without a renewal on record, the directory prints Expired. That can happen because the school failed the visit, did not invite NBTE, or was visited after the directory was compiled. The directory alone cannot tell you which, which is why you need the school to show you a current letter.
Why an expired programme matters to you
- Most polytechnics ask for an ND from an accredited programme when you apply for an HND. An ND from a lapsed programme may be refused.
- Employers and government agencies that verify certificates may query a diploma from a programme that NBTE did not accredit when you graduated.
- If NBTE does not restore accreditation, students can be delayed or asked to transfer, which costs time and money.
How to check Hope Polytechnic before you apply
- Search during registration: when you register for the UTME at a CBT centre or on JAMB’s portal, look for Hope Polytechnic in the list of polytechnics. If the name is not there, JAMB cannot send your record to the school.
- Check the course under the school: a school can be on JAMB’s list while a course is not. Make sure your exact course appears under it.
- Check NBTE’s directory: open NBTE’s latest Directory of Accredited Programmes and find the school’s heading. Look at the status and expiration date for your course.
- Ask for letters: ask the school for the NBTE letter for your course and for its JAMB institution code. A school that is admitting legally will have both.
- Keep records: keep copies of every receipt and letter. If anything goes wrong, those papers are what JAMB, NBTE or a lawyer will ask for.
Put your questions to the school in writing, by letter or email, and keep the reply. A school with current accreditation will usually show you the NBTE letter without fuss.
Hope Poly cut-off mark
| Session | Figure | What it is | Status |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2026/2027 | 100 | JAMB minimum for polytechnics and monotechnics | Official (JAMB 2026 policy meeting, reported by NAN on 11 May 2026) |

If the school shows you current accreditation and you choose it, 100 is the legal minimum for any of its courses. A score above my targets below also keeps you competitive at the alternatives, which is useful if you decide to switch.
| Course | Legal minimum | My safe target for 2027 |
|---|---|---|
| Electrical/Electronic Engineering Technology | 100 | 125 or more |
| Computer Engineering Technology | 100 | 130 or more |
| Computer Science | 100 | 130 or more |
| Statistics | 100 | 115 or more |
UTME subjects and O’level for these courses
JAMB’s base rules for these courses apply at most polytechnics (only a few have their own remarks), so the same combination usually works whichever school you end up choosing. Use of English is compulsory and not repeated in the table.
| Course | UTME subjects besides Use of English | O’level credits (five in all) |
|---|---|---|
| Electrical/Electronic Engineering Technology | Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry | Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry plus two from the technical list (get English as one) |
| Computer Engineering Technology | Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry | Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and English Language plus one technical or science subject |
| Computer Science | Mathematics and any two of Geography, Physics, Economics and Chemistry | Mathematics, English Language and Physics plus two others such as Chemistry and Economics |
| Statistics | Mathematics and two of Economics, Physics, Chemistry, Geography or Biology/Agricultural Science (JAMB page did not load; pattern from Federal Polytechnics Offa and Nekede) | English Language and Mathematics plus three such as Physics, Economics and Geography |
For Statistics the JAMB brochure page did not load, so the line comes from Federal Polytechnic Offa and Federal Polytechnic Nekede; English, Mathematics, Economics and Physics fits both. For Computer Science, Physics is optional in the UTME but a Physics credit is compulsory at O’level.
Safer Akwa Ibom polytechnics for the same courses
Each of these offers some or all of Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Statistics, and each has a status you can check quickly.
| Polytechnic | Type and place | What I found | Our guide |
|---|---|---|---|
| Federal Polytechnic, Ukana | Federal; Ukana, Essien Udim LGA | Asked for at least 100 in the 2026 UTME and sold its screening form at N2,000 on its e-portal; 2026/2027 admission lists are already out | Computer Science, Accountancy |
| Akwa Ibom State Polytechnic, Ikot Osurua | State; Ikot Osurua, Ikot Ekpene | Asked for 100 and above in the 2026 UTME; 2026 screening ran from 9 to 11 September 2026 | Computer Science, Accountancy |

| Ultra Excellence Polytechnic | Private; Uyo | Four NDs accredited by NBTE to 2030 and one on interim approval | All courses |
Ikono is close to Ikot Ekpene and Uyo, so these schools are within reach. Brainfill Polytechnic in Ikot Ekpene also has Computer Engineering, Electrical/Electronic, Computer Science and Statistics, most accredited to 2030: see our Brainfill Polytechnic admission requirements.
If you still choose Hope Polytechnic
- Get your JAMB profile code: text NIN, a space and your 11-digit NIN to 55019 or 66019 from the phone line linked to your NIN.
- Register the UTME with the right subjects: pick your course and choose Hope Polytechnic, Ikono as your polytechnic. If you chose another school, do a JAMB change of institution before screening.
- Upload your O’level result to CAPS: go to an accredited JAMB CBT centre once your WAEC, NECO or NABTEB result is out. CAPS cannot offer you admission without it.
- Get the papers first: visit the school in Ndon Utibe, Ikono, ask for the NBTE letter that covers your course for 2027/2028, and only then buy the form at the school. Keep every receipt.
- Attend screening: take your UTME result slip, O’level result, birth certificate or age declaration, local government identification and passport photographs.
- Accept on CAPS: log in at efacility.jamb.gov.ng, open Check Admission Status, then Access my CAPS, and accept the offer. Our JAMB CAPS guide explains each status.
- Pay acceptance and register: get the amounts in writing from the bursary, pay only through the channel the school names, and complete medical and departmental registration.
Caution
NBTE’s 2025 Directory shows every Hope Polytechnic programme as Expired since 1 October 2024. Do not pay acceptance or school fees until the school shows you current NBTE accreditation for your course and you have accepted the offer on JAMB CAPS. Hope Polytechnic is not James Hope University in Lagos, and it has nothing to do with any Hope-named secondary school.

Sources and updates
The 2026/2027 polytechnic minimum of 100, the 31 December 2026 deadline and JAMB’s warning against admissions outside CAPS come from JAMB’s 2026 policy meeting as reported by the News Agency of Nigeria on 11 May 2026; the 2025/2026 figure is from Nairametrics (8 July 2025). The programme list and Expired status are from NBTE’s 25th Edition 2025 Directory of Accredited Programmes, under the heading quoted above. The JAMB listing and location are from a reprint of Chapter 3 of the JAMB brochure (undated). Subject rules are the JAMB polytechnic brochure base lines as reprinted by Myschool, with Federal Polytechnic Offa and Nekede patterns for Statistics. Details on the alternative polytechnics come from their 2026 admission notices as reprinted by Myschool. Safe targets are my own advice. Checked on 3 November 2026. This page will be updated if NBTE publishes a renewed status for the school.
