NOHE Orthopaedic Cast Technology Admission Requirements 2027/2028: Cut-Off, Screening and Form

SOCAST NOHE invites candidates with 120+ in the UTME (and some without UTME) who have five credits including English, Maths and Biology. See the subject combination, screening, how to apply and course details.

NOHE Orthopaedic Cast Technology admission requirements, as set out in the School of Orthopaedic Cast Technology (SOCAST NOHE) advert, are five O’level credits at one or two sittings, including English Language, Mathematics and Biology (or Health Science), plus two other subjects. Candidates with at least 120 in the UTME are invited to screening, and the school also invited candidates who did not sit the UTME or did not choose it first. The course runs for two years (four semesters). The national JAMB minimum for polytechnics and monotechnics is 100 for 2026/2027.

2027/2028 update: NOHE Orthopaedic Cast Technology cut-off marks and screening rules usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the figures on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They come from the latest notice we could find (headed 2026/2027). If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.

One warning before you plan around that notice. The 2026/2027 version reprinted by o3schools in June 2026 has the same wording as the 2021/2022 advert Myschool carried in August 2021, including the 120 score and the two-year length. It may be a repost rather than a fresh notice. The rules have clearly held for years, but confirm the current dates and fees with the school at the National Orthopaedic Hospital, Enugu (NOHE) before you pay.

NOHE Orthopaedic Cast Technology cut-off mark

The only published figure is the school’s own: 120 in the UTME to be invited for screening. There is no separate departmental cut-off above that, because SOCAST runs a single programme.

Safe target score (consultant advice)

This is my advice, not a SOCAST figure. Aim for 150 or more. A score of 120 only gets you to screening; a stronger score gives you room if the school ranks by UTME, and it keeps you eligible for other health ND programmes if you need a backup. If you score between 100 and 119, call the school before you give up: the advert also invited candidates without UTME, so the rules are looser than usual.

UTME subject combination and O’level requirements

JAMB’s brochure entry for Orthopaedic Cast Technology (polytechnic list, as shown on Myschool) gives these:

RequirementJAMB brochureSOCAST NOHE advert
UTME subjectsUse of English plus Biology, Physics and ChemistryNot stated
O’levelFive credits: Mathematics, English, Biology, Physics or Chemistry, plus any other subjectFive credits: English, Mathematics, Biology or Health Science, plus two others
Special remarkOnly SOCAST Kano has a listed waiver (Biology or Health Science; UTME Mathematics, Biology and one other)Rules “as obtained in other Federal Poly/Monotechnics”

The two lists differ. The brochure wants Physics or Chemistry at credit; the NOHE advert does not name either. The brochure entry does not show a remark for NOHE, so I could not confirm that SOCAST NOHE takes candidates through JAMB at all. My advice: sit the UTME with English, Biology, Chemistry and Physics and make sure your O’level has credits in Physics or Chemistry as well as English, Mathematics and Biology. That covers both versions. Confirm on the JAMB e-brochure when you register.

Revise with our JAMB Biology syllabus and JAMB Chemistry syllabus guides.

Direct Entry

The JAMB brochure page for this course lists no Direct Entry requirements, and the SOCAST advert does not mention Direct Entry. Assume entry is by O’level and screening only.

SOCAST NOHE screening: what happens

The advert calls it a “selection screening exercise” but does not say whether it is a written test, an interview or both. For screening it asked candidates to bring:

  • Two recent passport photographs with a white background.
  • Original credentials and photocopies.
  • Your JAMB UTME result printout (if you sat the UTME).

Applications go by letter. Write to the Admission Officer, School of Orthopaedic Cast Technology, National Orthopaedic Hospital, Enugu, attach photocopies of your credentials and two passport photographs, and submit within eight weeks of the advert’s date. No form fee was stated in either reprint.

Worked example (illustrative)

SOCAST has not published how it ranks candidates. If a monotechnic took the UTME score divided by 8 (out of 50) plus a screening score out of 50:

CandidateUTMEUTME divided by 8Screening (50)Total (100)
Obinna18022.52850.5
Amaka12515.63853.6
Kene (no UTME)None040Ranked on screening only

The point is that screening carries real weight at a small school like this, and candidates without a UTME score were invited too. Prepare for it.

How to apply, step by step

  1. Get your JAMB profile code: send your NIN to 55019 or 66019 from your own line, then register for the UTME with English, Biology, Chemistry and Physics. Our JAMB 2027 registration guide has the dates.
  2. Choose the institution if JAMB lists it: if SOCAST NOHE appears among JAMB’s institutions for Orthopaedic Cast Technology, pick it. You can switch later with a JAMB change of institution.
  3. Upload your O’level to CAPS: at an accredited CBT centre, so your result shows on JAMB CAPS.
  4. Write your application letter: to the Admission Officer, with photocopies of results, birth certificate and two passport photos, within eight weeks of the advert.
  5. Attend screening: with white-background photos, originals and your UTME printout.
  6. Accept on CAPS if offered there: see our JAMB CAPS guide. JAMB’s 2026/2027 admission window runs until 31 December 2026, and admissions outside CAPS are not recognised by JAMB.
  7. Pay acceptance and school fees: only the amounts on your admission letter, through the hospital’s official account.

Check before you pay

The latest SOCAST NOHE notice found online repeats a 2021 advert word for word. Call the enquiry line or visit the school at NOH Enugu to confirm that admission is open for 2027/2028 before paying anyone for a form or a place.

Admission odds and advice

SOCAST is a small, specialised school, so the number of applicants is lower than for nursing or medical laboratory courses, but the number of places is small too. What helps:

  • A UTME score well above 120, even though 120 gets you invited.
  • Credits in Physics or Chemistry as well as Biology.
  • Any hands-on experience with Plaster of Paris, for example in a bone setter’s or hospital plaster room, which the advert names as an advantage.
  • Applying early in the eight-week window.

About Orthopaedic Cast Technology at NOHE

Cast technologists apply and remove plaster of Paris and synthetic casts, make splints and slabs, set up skin and skeletal traction under a surgeon’s direction, and look after patients in casts. NOHE is a federal orthopaedic hospital that has run in Enugu since 1975, so training takes place in a busy fracture and orthopaedic service.

What you study

  • Anatomy of bones, joints and muscles.
  • Fracture types and how they are immobilised.
  • Plaster and synthetic cast techniques, slabs and splints.
  • Traction set-up and care.
  • Cast complications such as pressure sores and compartment syndrome.
  • Hospital practice and patient care in the orthopaedic wards and clinics.

SOCAST has not published its curriculum; this list is the usual scope of the field.

Accreditation

Not confirmed. I found no NBTE or professional council listing for the NOHE school. Ask SOCAST which body accredits the programme and which certificate you will receive before you accept.

Careers

  • Orthopaedic cast technician in orthopaedic and teaching hospitals.
  • Plaster room and fracture clinic work in general hospitals.
  • Private orthopaedic and trauma clinics.

Outside Enugu, the JAMB brochure names a School of Orthopaedic Cast Technology in Kano (SOCAST-KAN), and the National Orthopaedic Hospital, Igbobi, Lagos hosts the Federal College of Orthopaedic Technology.

The admission rules come from the SOCAST NOHE advert as reprinted by o3schools (27 June 2026, headed 2026/2027) and the same advert for 2021/2022 reprinted by Myschool (31 August 2021).
