Our Lady of Lourdes School of Nursing Ihiala Admission Requirements 2027/2028: Entrance Exam and Form

OLLHC College of Nursing Sciences, Ihiala asks for five credits (English, Maths, Biology, Chemistry, Physics), then a same-day entrance exam and interview. See programmes, JAMB position, fees, documents and NMCN status.

Our Lady of Lourdes School of Nursing Ihiala admission requirements, from the college’s recent adverts, are five O’level credits in English Language, Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry and Physics at no more than two sittings, then a same-day entrance exam and interview at the school in Ihiala, Anambra State. The most recent intake advert we found (for 2025) said JAMB is not required for its Basic Midwifery programme. The school has not published a cut-off mark of its own.

2027/2028 update: Our Lady of Lourdes Ihiala admission requirements and entrance exam process usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the rules on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They come from the latest notices we could find (2024 to 2026 reprints). If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.

The college now trades as the OLLHC College of Nursing Sciences, Ihiala (Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital Complex), a Catholic mission hospital school. Its School of Nursing and School of Basic Midwifery both hold full NMCN accreditation from October 2023 on the Nursing and Midwifery Council’s December 2025 list. One thing to know before you buy a form: the latest intake advert listed Basic Midwifery and Post-Basic Nursing, not a fresh general nursing intake for school leavers. More on that below.

Which programmes can you apply for?

This is where most candidates get confused. The NMCN lists a School of Nursing and a School of Basic Midwifery under “College of Nursing Sciences, Ihiala”. But the intake advert Myschool carried on 16 November 2024 offered these:

ProgrammeLengthWho can applyIntake
Basic Midwifery3 yearsSchool leavers with five credits (English, Maths, Biology, Chemistry, Physics)February/March 2025
Post-Basic Nursing18 monthsRegistered midwives (RM) certified by the NMCNFebruary/March 2025
Medical Laboratory Technician (separate school)3 yearsSchool leavers with five credits (same subjects)January 2025

So in that cycle, the way for a school leaver to become a nurse at Ihiala was two steps: three years of basic midwifery, then 18 months of post-basic nursing once you are a registered midwife. The Schoolings listing headed 2026/2027 also talks about post-basic admission and basic midwifery. I could not confirm whether the college still takes school leavers straight into a three-year general nursing course. Ask the college which programmes are open before you pay for a form.

Does Our Lady of Lourdes Ihiala need JAMB? Cut-off mark explained

The November 2024 advert said JAMB is not required for Basic Midwifery and the medical laboratory technician course. The entrance exam notice does not mention JAMB either. The college has never published a UTME cut-off.

For context, JAMB sets a national minimum for colleges of nursing that admit through the UTME: 140 for 2025 admissions and 150 for 2026 admissions. Those numbers bind only schools that use JAMB, and Ihiala’s adverts say it does not for midwifery.

SessionJAMB minimum for colleges of nursingIhiala figure
2025/2026140None; JAMB not required for Basic Midwifery (2025 intake advert)
2026/2027150None published

Safe plan (consultant advice)

This is my advice, not the college’s. Many nursing colleges have moved to UTME-based ND/HND entry, and rules can change between cycles. If you are sitting the 2027 UTME anyway, register with English, Biology, Chemistry and Physics and aim for 160 or more. If Ihiala still does not ask for JAMB, you lose nothing, and the score keeps university and other college options open.

O’level requirements and documents

All five subjects must be credits: English, Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry and Physics. Two sittings are allowed. The entrance exam notice asks candidates to bring these on the day, in original and photocopy where relevant:

  • WAEC, NECO or NABTEB result(s).
  • Testimonial(s).
  • Two passport photographs.
  • A recommendation letter from your Parish Priest or Pastor.
  • Birth certificate or National Population Commission certificate.
  • Local Government identification letter.
  • Baptismal card.
  • Pen and pencil, and two files (a school file and an office flat file), which the notice says are available at the school bookshop.
  • Your bank teller or payment printout for the interview fee.

The pastor’s letter and baptismal card reflect the school’s mission background. The notice asks for a letter from a Parish Priest or Pastor, so candidates from other Christian churches can still apply.

Our Lady of Lourdes Ihiala entrance exam and interview

The notice reprinted by o3schools on 28 November 2025 (headed “2026 admission exercise”) sets out the day like this:

ItemDetails
DayA Saturday in September (the notice gives no day number)
Time8.00am prompt
VenueSchool premises, Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Ihiala
FormatEntrance exam and interview on the same day
Interview feeN10,500, paid before the exam date into the college’s Ecobank or First Bank account, account name “School of Nursing Ihiala”
After successPay N20,000 to collect the prospectus and pay school fees
Enquiries08033125840, 08034907455

The same notice tells candidates to wear a face mask at the hospital gate, which suggests the text dates from the COVID-19 years and has been reposted. Treat the September timing and the fees as the last known pattern. The November 2024 advert pointed to February/March intakes for midwifery and post-basic nursing, so the calendar may now run differently. Phone the numbers above to confirm the date and the account numbers before you pay.

Worked example (illustrative)

The college does not publish its scoring. If the written exam counted 70 marks and the interview 30:

CandidateWritten (70)Interview (30)Total (100)
Chiamaka, one sitting492069
Nnamdi, two sittings442771

Nnamdi wins on the interview, where a complete set of documents and clear answers about why he wants midwifery or nursing count. Prepare for both parts.

How to apply, step by step

  1. Check your O’level: confirm you have credits in all five subjects in no more than two sittings.
  2. Get your NIN and JAMB profile if you are writing the UTME: send your NIN to 55019 or 66019 for a profile code. Even if Ihiala does not need JAMB, other schools you apply to may. See our JAMB 2027 registration guide.
  3. Buy the form only from the college: reports say forms are sold only through nursing.ollhc.com (nursing) and midwifery.ollhc.com (midwifery), and not through staff.
  4. Pay the interview fee: into the “School of Nursing Ihiala” account named in the current notice, and keep the teller.
  5. Gather documents: including the pastor’s letter, LGA identification letter and baptismal card, which take time to get.
  6. Sit the exam and interview: arrive before 8am.
  7. Pay acceptance: the last notice put it at N20,000, paid to collect the prospectus.
  8. If a JAMB-based offer ever applies: accept it on CAPS (see our JAMB CAPS guide).

Before you pay

Ihiala’s notices name an account in the school’s own name and say forms are sold only through the college’s websites, not through staff. Treat any request to pay into a personal account, or any “admission agent”, as a scam, and confirm details on 08033125840 or 08034907455.

Admission odds and advice

The NMCN list of August 2022 gave Ihiala a quota of 100 for nursing and 100 for basic midwifery. The 2025 list does not show quotas. That is a fairly large intake for a mission school, but demand for nursing in Anambra and Imo is high.

  • Strong one-sitting credits in the sciences help in a written exam built on those subjects.
  • Have every document ready; the list is longer than at most schools.
  • If you want general nursing straight from secondary school and Ihiala is not offering it, apply in parallel to a college that is, and keep Ihiala’s midwifery route as your second plan.

About the programmes at Our Lady of Lourdes, Ihiala

Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital is a Catholic mission hospital in Ihiala Local Government Area of Anambra State. Note that Ihiala is in Anambra, not Enugu, and we found no Enugu campus.

What you study

  • Basic Midwifery (3 years): anatomy and physiology, care in pregnancy, labour and after birth, newborn care, family planning and community midwifery, with practice in the hospital’s maternity unit.
  • Post-Basic Nursing (18 months): for registered midwives who want to add the nursing qualification; medical, surgical and community nursing.

These are the usual contents of the programmes; the college has not published its own curriculum.

Accreditation

The NMCN December 2025 list shows “College of Nursing Sciences, Ihiala” with the School of Nursing and School of Basic Midwifery both on Full accreditation, October 2023. Full status lasts five years, to about October 2028. The list does not print the name Our Lady of Lourdes; the match is by town and by the college’s own name, OLLHC College of Nursing Sciences, Ihiala.

Careers

  • Registered midwife in hospitals, maternity homes and primary health centres.
  • Registered nurse after the post-basic course, in public, private and mission hospitals.
  • Later study for a BNSc or further post-basic specialties.

For UTME preparation, use our JAMB Biology syllabus and JAMB Chemistry syllabus.
