FUAHSE Cut-Off Mark for Dental Technology 2027/2028: Requirements, Subject Combination and Screening

FUAHSE set 200 as the cut-off mark for Dental Technology. See the official list, a safe target score, UTME subjects, O’level and Direct Entry rules, screening, CAPS steps and the registration board question.

The FUAHSE cut off mark for Dental Technology is 200 in the UTME. The Federal University of Allied Health Sciences, Enugu (FUAHSE) put Dental Technology in its 200 band on the official 2026/2027 UTME admission cut-off list, alongside Dental Therapy, Public Health and most of the engineering courses.

2027/2028 update: FUAHSE cut-off marks usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the figures on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They come from the latest official notice (2026/2027). If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.

Dental Technology has deeper roots at FUAHSE than almost any other course. The university grew out of the Federal College of Dental Technology and Therapy, Trans-Ekulu, which trained dental technologists and therapists for many years before the March 2024 upgrade. What changed is the qualification: the course is now a B.Sc. admitted through JAMB, with a cut-off of 200 against the national floor of 150. Below are the official figures, my safe target, the subjects JAMB lists, how screening ran, the CAPS steps and what the Dental Technologists Registration Board has and hasn’t said about the degree.

Dental Technology was one of the 16 courses in FUAHSE’s 2025/2026 intake, but that year’s notice gave only the general 150 minimum. The 200 on the 2026/2027 list is the first course-level figure. A few blogs show a flat 200 for every FUAHSE course. For this course the number happens to match, but those blogs are wrong for Nursing, Radiography and others, so take your figures from the university’s own page.

All FUAHSE cut-off marks for 2026/2027

Seeing the full official list helps you judge where a given score can take you at FUAHSE.

2026/2027 cut-offFUAHSE courses (names as on the e-portal)
260Nursing Science
240Radiography
230Medical Laboratory Science, Physiotherapy
200Public Health, Dental Technology, Dental Therapy, Prosthetics and Orthotics, Software Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Artificial Intelligence, Electrical and Electronics, Biomedical Engineering, Social Work, Biotechnology, Alternative and Complementary Medicine
180Health Care Management, Occupational Therapy, Parasitology and Entomology, Water Hygiene and Sanitation
170Speech Therapy, Community Health, Health Information
150Human Anatomy, Physiology, Biochemistry, Microbiology

Dental Technology shares the 200 band with 12 other courses, including its sister course, Dental Therapy. If you land between 180 and 199, Healthcare Management, Occupational Therapy, Parasitology and Entomology, and Water Hygiene and Sanitation are still open at 180. If your score is high, remember that Medical Laboratory Science (230) and Radiography (240) draw on the same science subjects.

Safe target score for Dental Technology at FUAHSE (my advice)

FUAHSE does not publish the lowest score it admitted for each course. This table is my reading of the 200 cut-off, not a university rule.

Your UTME scoreMy read for FUAHSE Dental Technology
Below 200Not eligible for Dental Technology at FUAHSE; look at the 180 courses
200 to 209Eligible, but too close to the line for comfort
210 to 224Competitive with good science grades
225 and aboveStrong

For the 2027 UTME, I would aim for at least 215, ideally 225. The course is well known in Enugu because of the old college, and many candidates who miss the 230 to 260 courses fall back on it, which pushes up the scores at the top of the 200 band. Strong Chemistry and Biology grades also help, because the course leans on dental materials and oral anatomy.

Catchment and quota

FUAHSE has not published a catchment list or a quota for Dental Technology. Federal universities generally share places between merit, catchment and less developed states, but I can’t give you FUAHSE’s split, so plan on merit.

UTME subject combination and O’level for FUAHSE Dental Technology

RequirementDental Technology
UTME subjects (JAMB general entry)Use of English, Chemistry, Biology and one other science subject
The fourth subject I would choosePhysics (FUTO’s remark in the same entry makes Physics compulsory there)
O’levelFive credits: English Language, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology
Exams acceptedWAEC, NECO or NABTEB (FUAHSE has not published a different list)
SittingsNot stated by FUAHSE; one sitting is safer
Direct Entry (JAMB general)Three A’level passes including Chemistry, Biology or Zoology, and Physics
Direct Entry (FUAHSE 2026/2027 notice)ND, HND or first degree plus relevant O’level credits

These come from JAMB’s brochure entry for Dental Technology, as reprinted by Myschool and checked on 30 October 2026. The general rule asks for Chemistry, Biology and one other science, so Physics or Mathematics would both satisfy it on paper. I would still pick Physics: your O’level already needs it, FUTO insists on it in the same entry, and FUAHSE has not added a remark saying it will take Mathematics instead.

Don’t confuse it with Dentistry and Dental Technology or Dentistry and Dental Surgery, which are separate brochure entries. Dentistry trains dentists through the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria. Dental Technology trains the laboratory professionals who make what dentists prescribe.

Course name to pick on JAMB: JAMB’s brochure lists this course as Dental Technology, and FUAHSE’s cut-off page calls it Dental Technology. I could not open JAMB’s own list of FUAHSE courses (the Myschool reprint would not load for me), so I can’t confirm exactly how the course appears under FUAHSE. FUAHSE’s 2026/2027 Post-UTME form took JAMB registration numbers and the course is on its official cut-off list, which tells you admission runs through JAMB. At registration, ask the centre to show FUAHSE’s course options on screen and pick the matching one. Don’t settle for a similar-looking course at another school.

Direct Entry is where this course differs most from others. Holders of the old college’s ND or HND in Dental Technology are the obvious candidates, and FUAHSE’s 2026/2027 notice did accept ND, HND and first-degree holders in general. It did not say what grade it wants or whether you enter at 200 level. FUTO’s remark in JAMB’s brochure asks for Upper Credit, which gives you an idea of what universities expect. Ask FUAHSE’s admissions office before you buy a Direct Entry form.

How FUAHSE screening works for Dental Technology

FUAHSE ran its 2026/2027 Post-UTME online on its e-portal. These are the details I could confirm, with the gaps marked.

Worked example for a Dental Technology candidate

FUAHSE has not published an aggregate formula, so nobody can calculate an official screening score for you. What you can check is the distance between your UTME score, the 200 cut-off and my safe target.

Take Ngozi, who scored 218, with B2 in English, B3 in Mathematics, C4 in Physics, B2 in Chemistry and B3 in Biology from one WAEC sitting.

  1. Eligibility: 218 minus 200 = 18. She clears the Dental Technology cut-off.
  2. Against my safe target: 218 sits inside my 210 to 224 band, so she is competitive but not safe.
  3. O’level check: all five required credits in one sitting. Her C4 in Physics still counts as a credit.
  4. My advice: keep Dental Technology and upload her O’level early. If FUAHSE offers Dental Therapy on CAPS instead, it is a close cousin worth weighing.

Ifeanyi scored 192. 192 minus 200 = minus 8, so Dental Technology is out at FUAHSE this year. His 192 clears the 180 courses, which is where his realistic FUAHSE options sit, or he can resit in 2027 with a 225 target.

How to apply for Dental Technology at FUAHSE, step by step

  1. Get your JAMB profile code: send NIN, a space and your 11-digit NIN to 55019 or 66019 from the phone line linked to your NIN.
  2. Register for the UTME: choose FUAHSE and Dental Technology, with Use of English, Chemistry, Biology and Physics. If FUAHSE was not your choice, do a JAMB change of institution before its screening form opens.
  3. Upload your O’level on CAPS: do it at a JAMB-accredited centre, early. Universities read your grades from CAPS.
  4. Fill the FUAHSE screening form: go to eportal.fuahse.edu.ng and open the Post-UTME application form for the session. UTME candidates enter their JAMB registration number; Direct Entry candidates start with a phone number. Blogs reported a fee of ₦2,000 for 2026/2027; the portal invoice is what counts.
  5. Print your slip and watch for updates: FUAHSE has not published whether it holds a test, so keep checking the portal and the official admissions page after you submit.
  6. Check your status: use FUAHSE’s admission status page and JAMB CAPS. An offer is only real once it appears on CAPS.
  7. Accept on CAPS: log in at efacility.jamb.gov.ng, open Check Admission Status, then Access my CAPS, and accept. JAMB gives candidates four weeks to accept or reject an offer.
  8. Pay acceptance and clear: FUAHSE has not published its acceptance fee in any source I reached. Pay only through an invoice generated on the FUAHSE e-portal, and keep every receipt for clearance.

Warning

FUAHSE’s admissions page warns that fake admission information about the university is circulating on Facebook. Its official channels are fuahse.edu.ng/admissions and the e-portal at eportal.fuahse.edu.ng, and every genuine offer also shows on JAMB CAPS. Nobody can sell you a place, so don’t pay anyone who promises one.

FUAHSE’s management also warned in July 2025 that giving or collecting money for admission is forbidden. Anyone who claims a link to the old college and offers a shortcut is lying: every genuine offer goes through JAMB CAPS.

FUAHSE is a federal university, so its 2026/2027 admissions fall under the window JAMB set for public universities, which ended on 31 October 2026 (News Agency of Nigeria, 11 May 2026). That date has now passed. I found no report of when FUAHSE uploaded its 2026/2027 list. If you applied this year, check CAPS and FUAHSE’s status page, and read our JAMB CAPS guide to understand each status.

Studying Dental Technology at FUAHSE

Dental Technology sits in FUAHSE’s Faculty of Dental Health with Dental Therapy, on the old college campus at Dental Avenue, Trans-Ekulu, Enugu. FUAHSE has not published the length of the B.Sc. Health science degrees with long laboratory and clinical training commonly run for five years in Nigeria, but ask the department for its own figure.

Is FUAHSE Dental Technology approved?

These are the approval steps I could trace:

  • March 2024: the Federal Government approved the upgrade of the Federal College of Dental Technology and Therapy, Trans-Ekulu, into FUAHSE.
  • October 2024: an NUC team began checking 18 of the 22 programmes FUAHSE’s Senate had approved for take-off in 2024/2025, using NUC’s Core Curriculum Minimum Academic Standards as the yardstick (The Sun, 31 October 2024).
  • December 2024: FUAHSE announced NUC approval for its first 16 degree programmes, and Dental Technology was on that list (Journalist101 and Vanguard, 19 December 2024).
  • May 2026: the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. John Emaimo, said NUC approval now covered 27 programmes: the original 16 plus 11 newer ones, naming Biotechnology, Artificial Intelligence and Software Engineering among them. He spoke ahead of the university’s second matriculation (The Sun, 9 May 2026).

NUC approval lets the university run the degree. Full NUC accreditation comes later, after a visit when students reach the upper years, and I found no NUC accreditation report for it yet. That fits a degree this new.

The profession is regulated by the Dental Technologists Registration Board of Nigeria, set up under the Dental Technologists (Registration, etc.) Act. A FUAHSE notice reported by AbsTechConnect announced an induction and oath-taking for graduating Dental Technology students on 3 July 2025 and said their move into practice is recognised by that board. Those graduates came through the old college system; the notice does not say they held the new B.Sc. I found no public record of the board approving FUAHSE’s B.Sc. Dental Technology. Before you accept, ask the department whether the board has approved the degree and when students will be indexed.

What you study

  • Foundation years: basic sciences, then human anatomy, physiology, oral anatomy and dental morphology (the shape of each tooth).
  • Dental materials: how gypsum, waxes, acrylics, metal alloys and ceramics behave, and why a mix that is slightly wrong makes a denture fail.
  • Laboratory practice: complete and partial dentures, crowns and bridges, orthodontic appliances and, in more advanced work, maxillofacial prostheses for patients who lost part of the face or jaw.
  • Digital work: many labs now scan, design and mill restorations by computer, so expect some exposure to that if the department has the equipment.
  • Professional practice: ethics, lab management and supervised placements in hospital dental laboratories.

Careers

Dental technologists work in hospital dental departments, teaching hospitals, private dental laboratories and the armed forces’ medical services. Many run their own labs and take work from several dental clinics, which makes this one of the more business-friendly allied health courses. Others move into teaching, dental material sales or postgraduate study.

Outside FUAHSE, JAMB’s brochure entry carries a remark for the Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO), so FUTO is another university route into Dental Technology in the South East.

For UTME revision, start with our JAMB Biology syllabus and JAMB Chemistry syllabus, then read when JAMB 2027 registration starts and what to do with your JAMB score if you are planning a fresh attempt in 2027.

Mistakes that cost Dental Technology applicants a FUAHSE place

  • Planning with 150: 150 opened the screening form. Dental Technology needs 200.
  • Picking Dentistry by mistake: Dentistry and Dental Technology are different JAMB courses with different councils.
  • Dropping Physics at O’level: the brochure asks for it among your five credits even though the UTME rule is looser.
  • Trusting old-college agents: the ND/HND era is over for new candidates; admission now runs through JAMB and CAPS.
  • Skipping the council question: ask about the Dental Technologists Registration Board before you pay acceptance.

If FUAHSE was not your institution at UTME registration, read our guide to JAMB change of institution before the screening form opens.

FUAHSE cut off mark for Dental Technology: frequently asked questions

Is 190 enough for Dental Technology at FUAHSE? No. The 2026/2027 cut-off for Dental Technology is 200. A score of 190 clears FUAHSE’s 180 courses, such as Healthcare Management and Occupational Therapy.

Can I use Mathematics instead of Physics for Dental Technology in JAMB? JAMB’s general entry asks for Chemistry, Biology and one other science, so Mathematics is not ruled out in the UTME. I would still take Physics, because the O’level list requires it and FUAHSE has not confirmed it accepts Mathematics.

Does FUAHSE still offer ND or HND in Dental Technology? I found no ND or HND intake on FUAHSE’s 2026/2027 e-portal; its cut-off list covers degree courses only. Ask the university directly if you are looking for a diploma.

Can an HND Dental Technology holder get Direct Entry at FUAHSE? FUAHSE’s 2026/2027 notice accepted ND, HND and first-degree holders for Direct Entry, but it did not set a grade or entry level. Confirm with the admissions office before buying the form.
