Godfrey Okoye University, Enugu sets 150 for its Faculty of Education programmes for 2026/2027, level with JAMB’s national minimum for universities, and it has published no higher figure for this course. The application form is free.

Political Science Education is one of the GOUNI Education courses with a public accreditation record: a 2021 report listed it among 13 GOUNI programmes with full NUC accreditation. On JAMB you register it as Education and Political Science, and GOUNI’s fee schedule calls it Political Science and Government Education. The detail to watch is Mathematics. JAMB’s general O’level line for this course does not ask for it, but GOUNI’s curriculum and form page both want a credit.

What score should you aim for? (my advice)
Political Science Education draws arts and social science candidates who often also apply for Political Science, Law or Public Administration. At GOUNI the Education version has the same 150 floor and a free form, so it is a practical choice for anyone whose score is too low for Law. My bands, which are advice only:

The Mathematics credit
Several universities on JAMB’s brochure accept only a pass in Mathematics for this course, and some Enugu candidates assume GOUNI does too. It does not. GOUNI’s curriculum names Mathematics among the core credits, and its 2026/2027 form page requires English and Mathematics credits for every applicant. A D7 in Mathematics will hold you back.
Which UTME subjects to write
I recommend English, Government, Economics and Literature in English. Government is safer than History here, because GOUNI’s curriculum is built around Government and its JUPEB set starts with it. Economics keeps GOUNI’s Economics Education and Public Administration open, while Literature matches the JUPEB subjects. CRS in place of Literature also works.
O’level points to watch
- Government or History at credit: named in both the brochure and the curriculum.
- A social science credit: GOUNI wants at least one of Economics, Commerce or Business Studies, Geography and Civic Education.
- Two sittings at most.
- Awaiting result: fine for the form, but you must upload to CAPS before GOUNI can propose you.
Direct Entry and JUPEB
NCE holders with Political Science or Government as one major, and A-level or JUPEB candidates with Government, can apply through JAMB’s Direct Entry form. Direct Entry students need 90 credit units to graduate, against 120 for UTME entrants. Since JAMB’s June 2026 guide, colleges of education no longer admit anyone into 100 or 200 level degree programmes; everyone there enters through the NCE. That makes NCE then Direct Entry to a university such as GOUNI the normal path for teachers who start at a college.
If you scored below 150, GOUNI’s JUPEB programme takes Government, Literature in English and CRS or Economics for this course. It runs nine to eleven months and the on-campus form is ₦10,000.
How GOUNI screens Political Science Education applicants
GOUNI does not run a Post-UTME test for its undergraduate courses on the official form page. You fill an online form, the admissions office checks it against your UTME score and O’level, and the decision comes to your e-mail. Nothing on the page describes a written test, an interview or an aggregate score for Political Science Education.

Ngozi scored 181 with English, History, CRS and Literature, and her WAEC shows D7 in Mathematics. She meets JAMB’s general line, but GOUNI’s curriculum and form page both ask for a Mathematics credit. She should resit Mathematics or get GOUNI’s written answer before paying.
Admission odds and advice
- Good odds at 150 and above if your O’level includes Mathematics.
- Choose Government over History in both UTME and O’level where you can.
- Make GOUNI your choice on JAMB before admission lists are prepared.
- Timing: JAMB set 30 November 2026 as the 2026/2027 admission deadline for private universities, and GOUNI repeated it in its news post of 12 May 2026. That window runs until 30 November 2026. A 2027 candidate should expect a similar date for 2027/2028, but JAMB announces it each year.
Who this course suits
I would suggest it to a student who follows elections and current affairs and wants to teach Government or Civic Education. The course also covers public policy, local government and Nigerian foreign policy, so it leaves room for jobs outside the classroom.
How to apply for Political Science Education at GOUNI, step by step
- Get your JAMB profile code: send NIN, a space and your 11-digit NIN to 55019 or 66019 from the phone line linked to your NIN.
- Register the UTME correctly: choose Godfrey Okoye University and “Education and Political Science”, and write English, Government and two other Arts or Social Science subjects.
- Upload your O’level to CAPS: do it at a JAMB-accredited centre as soon as your WAEC or NECO result is out. GOUNI cannot propose you on CAPS until the result is there.
- Make GOUNI your institution: if you chose another university first, do a JAMB change of institution to GOUNI before admission lists are drawn up.
- Fill the GOUNI form: open the admission form page on gouni.edu.ng, pick your course from the Faculty of Education list and submit. The form costs nothing for Education courses.
- Check your e-mail: GOUNI says the decision comes within three working days.
- Accept on CAPS: log in at efacility.jamb.gov.ng, open Check Admission Status, then Access my CAPS, and accept within JAMB’s four-week window. Our JAMB CAPS guide explains each status you may see.
- Pay and clear: pay the acceptance fee through the university’s own online payment platform only, then print your JAMB admission letter for clearance.
How much is Political Science Education at GOUNI? (last published fees)
GOUNI’s newest fee schedule I could find is the 2025/2026 session fees structure. The 2026/2027 schedule was not online when I checked, so treat these as a guide to the size of the bill, and expect some change.

The schedule also lists smaller charges such as student affairs, sports, sanitation, entrepreneurship, health insurance and ID card fees. Tuition is paid per session: 60% in the first semester and the other 40% within three months of resumption. Other fees must be cleared before course registration. The document does not label which level each of the four Education figures belongs to, and it shows no separate hostel row, so ask the bursary what the tuition line covers before you budget.
Studying Political Science Education at GOUNI
Is GOUNI Political Science Education accredited?
- GOUNI’s own statement: the accreditation page says all its programmes have NUC accreditation, with no list of programme results or dates.
- 2021 result: Myschool reported on 9 August 2021 that “Education Political Science” was one of 13 GOUNI programmes granted full NUC accreditation. Full accreditation normally runs for five years, so a new visit would fall due around 2026.
- Related result: the NUC report for GOUNI’s B.Sc. Political Science (visit of 10 to 12 December 2024) shows full accreditation with 95.41%. That is the non-Education degree, and the Education degree takes many of the same POL courses.
- NUC publication: the NUC’s “Accreditation Results 1990 to 2025” document (September 2026) is online, but the copy I could read stops before universities starting with G, and I found no NUC report page that names a GOUNI Education programme.
So Political Science Education had full NUC accreditation as of 2021, and I found no later result, good or bad. Ask GOUNI by e-mail whether the 2021 status has been renewed before paying tuition.

GOUNI’s curriculum sets 120 credit units for UTME entrants and 90 for Direct Entry. All listed courses are compulsory, and teaching practice carries 135 practical hours at each of 300 and 400 level.

The curriculum aims to produce teachers of Government and Civic Education, public policy analysts and people who can run political consultancy work. In practice graduates teach in secondary schools after TRCN registration, work in local government education authorities, join civil society and electoral work, or go on to a master’s in Political Science or Education.
